#happybelated 180th Birthday (22 March) to #ukrainiancomposer #mykolalysenko (1842-1912). I just received his #stringquartet in D minor in the mail yesterday and look forward to reading it with colleagues. #lysenko is a central figure in #ukrainianmusic who composed in many genres - opera, #chambermusic , solo piano, symphonic, as well as settings of poems by Ukrainian poets. One of his best known works is “Prayer for Ukraine” which has been performed copiously throughout the world in recent weeks. Lysenko traveled widely and studied composition with Carl Reineke in Leipzig, Germany and orchestration with #modestmusorgsky in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
