Tropes in manhwa are awful yet people still defend them
I'm in a bad mood right now so what better way to release all that pent up anger by ranting on what can ruin a good story.
1: Slavery being inserted only for cheap plot and slaves being demonized as obsessive/greedy monsters for "not knowing their place"
Theres nothing wrong with wanting to insert slavery in your story AS LONG as it's not just cheap plot to make your MC look "better" by buying from a single to all of the slaves because let me tell you this: there is no such thing as a good slave owner, you cannot morally own another human being. A lot of manhwa like to have slavery be a part of their plot completely ignoring that just because the MC goes "wow this is terrible" doesn't make them a good person after they buy a slave.
Remarried empress does this with its villian Rashta by pushing the notion that she's being greedy for not wanting to stay in poverty so Navier won't suffer because apparently a slave wanting what the silver spoon mouthed nobles were born into is so terrible not to mention they justify slave owners and slavery in general as a punishment for criminals (neglecting the fact that children can be sold by their parents)
The villainess has fun again justifies a child slave being bought by the lead and he becomes an obsessive shouta love interest, fans continously justify by using the ancient lolicon excuse "he may look young but he's actually 99182823 years old!"
In divorcing my tyrant husband, Robelia buys 30 slaves and the only 2 that consistently show up have no other personality other then "we love you FL we will worship you till the end of time!"
There's a damn manhwa out there literally called the order of slave breeding and even when a story tries to do this correctly such as VADTD with Penelope being portrayed as a bad person for what she did to Eckles, fans have been so deluded by the idea that FL's buying slaves is "girlboss" that they think Eckles should be grateful to be Penelopes "pet"
2: ML's murdering innocent people after one guy hurts the FL
I already made a specific post about it before and I'll say it again: all this does is make your male lead/father figure look like a horrific monster. While you could say it's because its a medieval kingdom (objectively that is true that they would do this) manhwa and OI is the same place where despite in those times taking a mistress was considered normal they still view it as cheating and "how could you pick that slut when you have such a perfect wife!? 🤬" in most stories. So yes, modern morality is still inserted within these tropes. While I can get it's a way to show that the man in questions loves the FL so much he's willing to go to such lengths to protect her I think just mutilating the guy that actually did the sin would be enough because try imagining yourself as a faithful servant who was amazing at your job getting brutally slaughtered by the Emperor because your boss attacked his daughter or lover.
Into the light once again does this with Aishas dad murdering all the relatives and close friends of a count that tried to kill Ysis and Aisha, Aisha doesn't seem to care despite being in a situation where she was wrongfully executed in her past life.
Remarried empress does this too. After Navier is nearly killed by Krista's brother, Heinrey tortures and kills the dad and slaughters the servants of the zemensias. I can't remember if he also murdered the remaining family members but I wouldn't put it past him.
3: protagonist centered morality
Protagonist centered morality is the biggest indicator that a piece of media is dealing with a mary sue FL. Whatever the protagonist says is right is immediately morally correct. This is actually used to justify the last 2 examples with "it was for the FL!" Things like slavery, murder, workplace abuse, union busting, pedophilia, and being a POS to your loved ones are all justified if the protagonist finds a cheap way to justify it and you HAVE to agree with her because her backstory is very tragic 🥺. Protagonist centered morality also ruins the chance for good characters since the FL herself never has to grow as a person so she stays the same exact thing as she was just with more enablers and random characters will be treated as villains even if they aren't actually wrong about being suspicious of the Protagonist or calling out her behavior. It twists the narrative in such incomprehensible ways that you don't even know what your reading anymore. I can't even list all of the manhwas that do this given how many there actually are so I'll just list some that are at least self aware there Protagonist is awful/morally grey or isn't even a bad person but they still have flaws that can be pointed out
Villains are destined to die
My in laws are obsessed with me
Not sew wicked step mom
Depths of malice
The villainess turns the hourglass
Beware of the villainess.
4: villains being dumbed down to make the lead look smarter
This is unfortunately another common staple often used as a quick way to make the FL look smart and witty but is that really hard to look smarter when everyone else around you is an idiot? Not only does the FL not have to put in actual effort to best her enemies but you just start to pity the villain for basically being a punching bag. Dimwitted villains aren't always bad in fact they can be some of those most entertaining characters no matter much they lose but that only works when they are meant to be seen as a goofy character that your not supposed to take seriously. Villains that are written as extremely childish and stupid but your still supposed to treat them as serious antagonists on the other hand are just annoying since you wonder how the protagonist even got killed by them in the first life if they're so stupid.
Isabella de Mare while admitly having a good reason for being dumbed down (she's a teenager in the 2nd life so it's reasonable she wouldnt be as smart as her adult counterpart) is still a joke of a villainess who keeps flipping back and fourth from a snot nosed whiny brat to a mastermind only at convenient opportunities when the plot needs conflict.
Mielle from the villainess turns the hourglass was first portrayed as extremely conniving as she arranged for Arias downfall in the shadows but in the second life she fails at every scheme she has even though she has Emma and Isis to help her out.
Ragibach is a literal demon possessing the body of another woman with the goal of setting demons loose on the word to start another human vs demon war and she succeeded in that the first time, the devastation was all there so clearly she has to be a formidable antagonist right? Well no, she's another case of being dumbed down further and further so Keira can succeed and while they do understand some plot holes such as Ludwig not trusting her as much in the second life it doesn't change the drastic character change from evil genius to bumbling idiot.
In short: dumbing down your villains so your lead can look smarter is essentially going to give the equivalent of a hydrogen bomb vs a coughing baby.
5: feminine women being demonized as basic "other girls" sluts
Okay this one isn't nearly as terrible as the others on this list because we all love the good old "a demon makes itself look beautiful to deceive humans" kind of villain, in fact as you probably know by me by now, white lotuses are my favorite kinds of character and even in media outside of manhwa I always find myself drawn to angelic villains but it seems like this is less of that and more of "Oh those are all the other girls who just want a man to save them, look at how much better my badass rich boss babe is for working for herself while taking all of their men at the time 😎" in manhwa. As soon as a traditionally feminine girl shows up, comments are already calling her a two faced bitch and half the time protagonist is already skeptical of her. This is the opposite of what being a feminist really is, a real feminist wouldn't be putting down other women just because they dress with more pink with bows and skirts and while I do think for most manhwa this is unintentional I do wish that we could have more characters like Psyche, Helena, Athy, and Jennette that prove that being overly feminine doesn't make you a backpedal on feminism. This doesn't make the badass or sexy fl's bad either, it just means they can co-exist.
An angelic villain should be treated as evil for being a well calculated schemer, not because they have a light colored color scheme
6: toxic relationships being romanticized as good
You know for a large community that claims to be about girl code a good chunk sure likes to look the other way when it comes to toxic relationships as long as the abuser is "hot" and theres always the terrible excuse such as "he has trauma!" Or "he doesn't know how to show his love normally!" No just no we aren't doing that here. Cry or better yet beg has this problem with not only the narrative claiming that Matthias graping Layla is okay because she actually loves him and doesn't know it but a large part of the fanbase also defends it, the same goes with try begging, a manhwa written by Solche who also wrote cry or better yet beg and once again despite Leon being an abuser everyone's ready to justify his actions because he's just a soft little boy who ends up falling in love with Sally awww 😍 (what the hell?) Everyones all about not justifying abusers because they had a sad past until it's the "sexy" male leads with daddy issues.
7: maid slapping
This shit isn't asserting your dominance as a boss bitch it's just work place abuse. This trope has gotten so out of hand of being justified by narratives and readers that there is an entire webtoon called this isekai maid is forming a union that's all about criticizing twisted manhwa tropes that get brushed off with maid absuer being at the biggest one. It's funny because a lot of people complain that Isekai maid union villainizes the nobles too much but they never ask the same questions when a OI is demonizing maids as greedy and lazy in order to deserve a beating. This doesn't just stop at hands either it can escalate to threats of mutilation just to assert dominice which is absolutely sick. Most of the time these leads used to be office workers or terminally ill patients, they know how terrible it is to be treated like garbage by their superiors yet they continue to absue every maid who isn't getting on their knees for them. Most maids in real history would not mistreat a noble even if they were the most hated in the house and even if they did they'd be fired without a letter of recommendation so why can't the FL's just fire the rude maid if they care about dignity so much because I'm pretty sure getting violent with a maid isn't very dignified either.
8: disgusting age gaps
Very similar to #6 but in this case while the ML/FL isn't a cruel monster to their partner it doesn't change the fact that grooming and pedophilia is still a crime worthy of life in prison. You'd think "oh no way, this can't be justified can it?" You'd be wrong. Now I belong to house of Castillo thankfully has a larger fanbase of people who think that a relationship between a girl who got groomed by her knight is bad but in cases like into the light once again a lot of people like to say "Well Aisha is technically 28 so it's fine!" When it really isn't since Aisha is still mentally 14. Taming my ex husbands mad dog is another one that does this with Reinhardt grooming a 16 year old boy and its apparently meant to be "cute".
9: claiming a character as unattractive yet giving them a perfect body and appreance
I just think this is a major cop-out since there's time where they want to make a realistic story yet also wanting a fantasy fufilment. I don't think its a coincidence that the only woman in tears of a withered flower that yout supposed to support is a Victoria's secret model body type. Even though she's meant to be an overworked exhausted 33 year old woman being mocked for losing her beauty she sure as hell isn't drawn that way, the only other women around hae soo are all women with smaller boob's and in general more common body types that are either classed as stupid or jealous that Hae soo is so beautiful that all the attractive men want her
how about we don't pit all the women against each other for once? And let's especially not villainize other women because their jealous they could never be have large boob's and tiny arms+waist at the same time?
10: the commoner protagonist actually being a noble rich person all along
Look I know most of us had loved those "the hated child is the lost princess" GLMM but we need to drop it because it's kinda disappointing that the nobody who had to work their way to the top is actually a secret magical princess who had royal blood in them all along. While I did think the villainess turns the hourglass was a pretty decent read I was super disappointed finding out that Aria was of noble descent all along. I liked seeing a commoner protagonist for once and it really felt like it was critiquing the idea that all commoners and poor people who want nice things like the nobility are greedy animals. Something similar can also happen with certain saintess manhwas that decide to twist itself into "the villainess was the true saintess all along!" And I'm just sitting here thinking "well there goes the hope that you didn't need the super duper rare power to be a strong character"
I feel way better now after writing all this.

Kosair dating Navier‘s best friend Headcanons?
😇
(HEYYYYY!!! Empress of theme, I'm at your service!!)
Kosair Lilder Trovi X Navier's Best-friend! Reader HCs
⇝ You’re Navier’s friend since childhood, you were in a few of her classes, but you never really met Kosair, you heard about him a lot through Navier, Sovieshu, Navier’s parents and your parents, but never met him…And so as you grew up, you either became a lady-in-waiting for Navier or her playmate…
⇝ You would help Navier around everything and were her wingman between her and Heinrey, you liked her together with him, while you also kinda fangirled around Sovieshu and Rashta, at how sweet the two liked each-other though it was kinda toxic, you met Kosair through that incident….
⇝ You slowly fell in love with Kosair and BOOM! Relationship. Okay so everyone in the palace consider you and him a married couple since the beginning, so nobody really cared at how close you were, but they were SHOCKED that you both had only started dating and are not married since you both became of age..
⇝ OKAY, LET’S BE HONEST!!! Navier is definitely your biggest shipper, wingman and fangirl! She’ll have a few people draw you both or she just makes fanfics in her minds on you both, don’t ruin this for her! Laura, Rashta and Countess Eliza are the next biggest shippers in that line, Rashta won’t ever admit it though…She’s happy you keep Kosair away from her and her baby…
⇝ Kosair would always go to Navier for dating advice, I mean you both have been friends for like always and he knows that and he will use it to his advantage, getting everything out of Navier, your favourite colour, your favorite food, your favorite hairstyle, your future, your future number of children….
⇝ Navier is always the one to set you both up, help you when you both have fights, tell you which gift to get for the other, when there is an anniversary or a special event for your relationship and set gifts if either of your forget something for it!!! She has saved you and Kosair from fighting over this topic so MANY times!!!
⇝ Also, DOUBLE DATES!!!! You and Kosair with Navier and Rashta/ Sovieshu/ Heinrey, you four will have so much together, it’s crazy!! You will go eat, play card games and then bicker on whose cheating, put make-up on your significant others, especially on Kosair!! You then eat a lot of sugar and have a sugar rush, then you will read books together, and if it was set in the human world, HARRY POTTR MARATHONS!!! Or any of your favourite movie series marathon, depends! :] No horror tho…Kosair and Navier get scared easily at those…
⇝ Oh, speaking of modern world AU, how about you and him going to cat cafes??? Him being surrounded by cats and you both having tons of fun and maybe in the near future you both end up adopting a few cats from that particular cat cafes, who knows?? Domestic life goes brrr~~
⇝ OH, Navier is the one who sees both yours and Kosair’s ugly crying faces when you both get into an argument and fights and then you both will blame each other cause you both are stubborn as shit and then she will try to calm you both down and in the and you both end up blaming your argument on Rashta, Sovieshu and Heinrey…
⇝ Okay, but real talk, you and Kosair are Navier BIGGEST PROTECTORS AND BODYGAURDS AND SHIPPERS, You both ship her with Heinrey but you’re kinda worried for her sometimes, because she doesn’t really have a lot of experience with men in the world where she’s not a empress…Also you found Heinrey to be kinda creepy…
⇝ You support her through everything though, also you try to find common ground for her and Rashta cause it’s normal for people to have mistresses, and that’s what Sovieshu did, he had a marriage of convenience and a marriage of love, he allowed Navier to do the same with anyone except Heinrey and yet she doesn’t listen a lot of times…It’s fine you’ll try your best to help the Trovi kids, they’re both chaotic…

Navier’s Patriotism vs Heinrey’s Ambitions: The Coming War and Its Consequences.
Something that has been on my mind since I finished the first season of The Remarried Empress, was how Heinrey’s planned war with Eastern Empire would pan out. And now, as we are some what decently into the second season, I have some thoughts:
Last season too had moments showing Navier’s dutifulness and connection to her people and land was beyond just being about their empress. Surely, there was an aspect of it that was drilled into her head as part of her training for her future role. Yet Navier displays something other than just following the motions on what she has been taught. She isn’t doing it because she is this pure hearted super good person either. This is not a case of fantasized “model aristocrat” who just loves their subjects. No, what she displays, is something we have seen in a few other characters, mostly in the western empire.
Navier is a patriot. She loves her homeland and her nation, because that’s her homeland and she is part of that nation. She has a nationalist consciousness, a sense of identity, community and belonging beyond noble bloodlines and birthrights. This is very different than showing fealty to a king or lord. Because the loyalty is independent of individual actions one faces in their personal lives. One man does not make or break it. No, Navier loves Eastern Empire, in ways most people in our modern world love their countries.
This here, in my opinion, is the foundation upon which the real main conflict of this story is based on. The conflict that is coming and will be the true challenge and climax of the story. The war between the Eastern Empire and Western Empire.
I say a conflict is coming, not only because we already know Heinrey’s plans to start a war. I say it is coming, because Heinrey, does not seem to be aware of Navier’s loyalty and patriotism towards the Eastern Empire. He seems to think, since Sovieshu has hurt and antagonized Navier, then Navier’s connection and affection to the land must also be over. He is in for a rude awakening. They both are.
If there is one thing I can say about the second season so far, it is that it is too happy. Way too happy...Almost like it is setting up for a major fallout. Heinrey is sweet, cute and loving, Navier is getting sentimental and comfortable, lowering her guard... Once the war plans are revealed, it will come down like a house of cards.
There is no greater source of resentment or conflict like violated expectations. Heinrey is expecting Navier to be fully on board and be fully on his side on every matter. Navier is clueless about Heinrey’s more ambitious and insidious side, seeing only a handsome young man who is very nice to her.
When Navier learns that Heinrey is very enthusiastically preparing to raze her homeland to ensure the ascendance of the Western Empire, she will be less than thrilled by it. And Heinrey, once he realizes that his beloved empress is not in on board for the destruction of the Eastern Empire, is certain to be disappointed.
There are many reasons why this is being built up as a hidden conflict between the two of them. However, the one that draw my attention the most is the ideological dissonance.
Heinrey is very patriotic himself. Several characters in Western Kingdom (Soon to be empire) have shown a national pride and patriotic fervor, including the nameless mob character who unknowingly expressed distrust of Navier over her potential lack of loyalty due to being a foreigner.
Yet we see no such sentiment expressed in Eastern Empire save for Navier and maybe her parents. People in the Eastern Empire seem to be far more invested in the feudal loyalties and class politics than a nationally unifying identity. People are loyal to the crown, to the emperor, or they favor some other noble faction, or they are on the “side” of the commoners and despise nobles and vice a versa. Ironically, this means Navier is detached from the general public notions, the psychosphere of her own nation. She is more like Westerners.
Heinrey, for his part, is suffering from information bias. He knows the people of Eastern Empire do not have the patriotism culture of his own kingdom. They are, dare I say, old fashioned and backwards, in their attitudes and loyalties. So he automatically assumes the same goes for Navier. And since the loyalty and devotion between Navier and Sovieshu completely broke down, she should be fine with waging war against her ungrateful cheating ex’s realm, right?
We already know Navier misjudged the intentions and perspective of the Western Empire. Back during the first season, she assumes they are ambitious rivals, but not enemies. This is probably due to the fact that Navier does not have access to the more sensitive intelligence or any real information about matters of national security. This has been mentioned a few times, regarding the separation of duties and access between her and Sovieshu. And Sovieshu is notorious for his failure to communicate with Navier.
These past two chapters have particularly emphasized how Sovieshu essentially ruined their marriage. He behaved erratically and antagonistically, due to the his lack of sharing. He didn’t share his wants, his fears, his plans, the secrets of their fertility problems, nothing. Instead he went ahead and aggravated her by having half a conversation with her in his head. And then he made this ridiculously convoluted plan, all the while assuming Navier would just go along with it, due to his own misjudgment of her character.
And now... Heinrey is doing the exact same thing! He has these grand dreams about how they’ll rule and what they will do... But does not share any of his real ambitions and desires with Navier. He just assumes she will go along with the war based on her falling out with Sovieshu.
I don’t know how they will resolve this conflict. The story can certainly just handwave it away for the sake of some happy ending, but I don’t see it. So far, for all the cheese and jokes in it, The Remarried Empress has been quite internally consistent and rational in setting up actions and consequences. The rules of the world has not been abandoned, ignored or bent for the sake of plot convenience.
One of them will need to break and relent. Because you cannot have “a little bit of war”. You either have war or you have peace. No “special military operation” here. There can be a compromise position where Navier convinces Heinrey to take over without open war, but that too requires Navier helping Heinrey essentially subjugate her homeland.
Now, it will certainly be interesting to see who choses what, but one option has been the most pressing on my mind: They reach no agreement and Heinrey just goes along with his plan. How would Navier react to that? Would she bite it down and play along while hating it all on the inside. We know she is good at suppressing her own pain. She is the kind to spit blood and claim it was cranberry syrup.
Or would she leave Heinrey too? Where? Back to Sovieshu? With Kaufman? Or just back to her parents’ side. And then we have Kosair, who very easily switched sides and seemingly serving the Western Empire comfortably. I can definitely see him being perfectly okay with the war, seeing it as a way to get revenge on Sovieshu and the rest of the nobility he never got along with. But I cannot see him siding against his sister, or even sit aside if he realizes she is upset.
It is definitely a possibility that the story of Empress Navier ends with another dead on the inside marriage, keeping up public appearances, this time with the added burden of being a willing enemy to her homeland.
Or it could end with Navier going back to Sovieshu and playing mother to Rashta’s child after all that happened. Not because she cares for the man, but for the empire.
Or if she gets pregnant after all, then she maybe find herself divided into impossible pieces, for her children’s inheritance and safety will depend on her loyalty and service to the West.
They have certainly emphasized the issue of heirs and children or the lack thereof, a pattern of secretive, extremely presumptuous (dare I say entitled) male love interests, and among all of it, her patriotism.
Or maybe something happens that takes the decision out of their hands and diffuses the tension for them. We don’t know. I don’t see Heinrey giving up on his ambitions, not easily. If Navier is to convince Heinrey to stop, then she needs to put up one hell of a fight.
Overall, I am quite exited to see that plotline and how it unfolds. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop, and this is on top of the internal challenges they will face in the Western Empire. A trial by fire for the second marriage!

sun rising, birds chirping
A/N: A small fic that focuses on Navier with hints of Heinrey/Navier. Just something that I made to get back into writing. Oh, it’s a Modern AU again.
Navier sighed in relief as she heard Laura and Artina shuffle into the plush apartment and the door click shut. She didn’t need to worry about the paparazzi in the privacy of her dwellings. Or at least, she thought so, as the possibility of their invasion into her space crept into her head. After all, this apartment had been vacant for a couple of years.
“Artina,” Navier called out to her bodyguard as she carefully tossed the keys onto a counter, “sweep the apartment for bugs, please.”
“I’m already on it.” She felt her mouth tip upwards at that. No surprises there. Artina was always steps ahead of Navier when it came to Navier’s own safety.
“It looks exactly as we left it.” Laura surveyed the apartment, and so it did. Navier hadn’t visited this piece of her family’s real estate since her marriage to Sovieshu. Navier had always been a bit uptight. She was aware of the fact. However, there was a certain freedom to her spirit in the years she spent in the apartment as a university student.
Navier hummed in response as she ran her hand over the furniture in the living room - not a speck of dust since her family always kept their property in prime condition, regardless if inhabited or not.
“Exactly as we left it,” Navier repeated as her eyes caught sight of a picture on the mantle.
It was a picture of her with Sovieshu in their high school years - back when they were best friends and knew that they were destined and content to wed for the sake of their families. They were both dressed in their uniforms, Sovieshu’s arm around her waist with confident smiles on their faces.
“You want me to set that aflame?” Navier withheld a very unladylike snort at that question from Laura. Normally, Navier would dismiss the very suggestion, however, maybe the university days-apartment brought back the lost little recklessness that she had.
The picture reminded her of everything that went down with Sovieshu - that any happiness that they could have had was a lie. Rashta. Sovieshu almost landing Kosair in prison with false accusations to stop him from airing his affair to the media. Ergi taking up the case as a favour for Heinrey of Western Co. who took interest in it for less than noble reasons. Ergi representing her in her messy messy divorce whilst she and Heinrey worked day and night together to tip the balance in their favour. He would visit her at one of her parents’ estates to discuss the cases, with a different variety of tea each time because he knew how much she loved tea.
It reminded her of everything Heinrey and how Sovieshu ruined that with his insistent slander in the media - how she had been the one to cheat first with Heinrey. It ruined Navier’s inclination to be receptive towards Heinrey’s own obvious feelings. It caused her to reluctantly cut ties with him before she left for abroad to distance herself from the media frenzy and render her legal services to a little-known non-profit.
She remembered wondering if he had moved on as quickly as the media liked to portray. She knew that Heinrey cultivated his womanizer persona for a reason. But how much was truly a persona?
Navier mentally shook her head out of the memories. She wasn’t here for Heinrey, and that was a ship that sailed two years ago. She was here to help expand the non-profit’s operations whilst she sat on the board of her father’s company alongside Kosair.
She flipped the frame around and delicately retrieved the picture from the inside. “Burn the picture,” she said mildly, “and any others of the such in here. Leave the frames though, they’re vintage.”
Laura snickered and accepted the flimsy picture from her. Navier knew that she would find relish in the task.
Navier turned to the long glass windows as she was left alone by Laura and Artina. Dawn was only approaching since Navier had been careful to arrive in the city with the dark as her cover - less chance to be ambushed by the paparazzi that way. Only four people in the city knew of her return - Kosair, her parents, and an exec at the non-profit.
Navier decided that she missed this. She used to watch the sunrise in university since she was an early riser. Sunrises were so full of warmth and hope and new beginnings - everything that Navier needed in her life at the moment - and the chirp of a bird just added to the mystique that filled her.
She froze. Chirp of a bird? Navier stood in an apartment twenty floors above the ground in the middle of a city where there were little to no trees in sight.
Navier heard it again, and her heart stopped when she realized that it came from her pocket - a text alert she customized as a joke for someone she hadn’t spoken to in years. She reached into her pocket to pull out her phone, and was disgusted to realize that her palms were sweaty.
Navier rarely sweated.
She unlocked her phone and felt her heart start and a smile split her face as her eyes fell onto the notifications.
Welcome home, my Queen.
How do you feel about blueberry tea?

Going to take a moment to brag about a Webtoon comic that I’ve been reading lately called “The Remarried Empress.” Honestly, drama isn’t one of my favorite genres, but this story does so many nice things that make it an enjoyable read through-and-through.
First off is the name alone and opening chapter, which gives you the major spoiler that Empress Navier remarries immediately after her husband, Emperor Sovieshu, divorces her for his mistress, Rashta. I feel beginning the story in this way is pivotal to how successful it is, because we’re then brought back in time to the events leading up to said point--which include numerous struggles and emotional hardships for our heroine. When it comes to these types of stories, where the main character is basically unfairly treated like someone’s punching bag, it’s very easily to get frustrated on their behalf. Take, “Rising of the Shield Hero” for instance, where Naofumi is forced to clean up the messes of the other heroes and in return gets blamed for crimes he didn’t commit. Another example is “Tess of the d’Urbervilles,” in which Tess is forced to face society’s harsh judgement and support her awful parents at the cost of her own happiness. While the reader does garner a lot of sympathy for the main character, that sympathy can easily turn into a heated anger for the string of unjustices playing out in the story--with both a hope and uncertainty if there will even be a pay-off for it all. This opening reassures the reader that, yes, everything will turn out alright in the end, instead replacing those feelings for a giddy anticipation of sweet, sweet karma.
Spiraling off that point, this also plays a little into Navier’s character as well. She doesn’t know what we, the audience, does; however, she’s a very strong and witty person who navigates herself through the worst of situations with a poker face that would be the envy of any gambler. Yes, she suffers, but she always does whatever she can to rise out of the problem she’s in in the moment. As much as we sympathize with her, we don’t have to mourn with her, because we know she can pick herself up again just fine. Therefore, it’s very easy to root for her as a kind of champion. It makes following her story very calming and refreshing as opposed to the tale of the typical underdog.
Rashta’s character also has its own flavor to it. A sad thing about a lot of modern day villains is that they often get split into two categories: Those who are rotten to the core and those who are merely misunderstood/need redemption. Neither is necessarily bad: It’s moreso the collective whole of villains we see that make the lot of them stale, tiring, and even unbelievable. Rashta finds a nice balance between the two. Without giving anything away, her backstory is sad. We understand that she’s also suffered and is looking for her own happiness. It’s difficult for her to trust others and she feels very alone, like she could be thrown away at any moment. However, she clearly enjoys stepping on other people--even those who don’t have anything to do with her current situation. She expects that other people sympathize with her even as she antagonizes them, such as Navier--the woman who’s husband she’s sleeping with. The slightest, verbal slap-back can make her burst into tears, and she’ll manipulate others not just for her benefit, but also purely for her entertainment--even when the suffering she causes has grave consequences for those individuals. Yes, she has been a victim in the past, but it’s a role she refuses to let go of even when things are going well for her. Yes, we understand Rashta, but her actions make it impossible to feel sorry for her.
While the main conflict is between Navier and Rashta as of the current update to the comic when writing this, don’t think they left a certain insect out of the mix! I’m glad that this story doesn’t just focus on two women fighting over a truly worthless guy as other stories have. A homewrecker is terrible, but it takes two to tango and Sovieshu plays the role of crappy husband perfectly. While it’s addressed that he clearly still “loves” Navier in later chapters, it’s really just an ideal image of her rather than her herself that he projects onto Rashta--and he constantly gaslights/blames Navier for any fault that occurs on his or Rashta’s behalf. He thinks he’s perfect, and wants both Navier and Rashta to follow his “perfect” vision of a single person without paying attention to his own faults. His “love” has turned to possession, and it will be a beautiful day when he wakes up and realizes he’s well past the point of being able to fix his mistakes.
As for Prince Heinrey, the last of our four main characters, I don’t know how much I can say as of right now since I’m also reading the Webnovel, which is much further ahead in the story than the comic. Therefore, I won’t go into too many details. I’ll just say that I do think he is an ideal guy for Navier to turn to, and while the audience can root for the both of them, there’s something a little uncomfortable about it that can tickle the back of the mind. Don’t get me wrong, Heinrey truly loves Navier and comes across as a real prince charming, but the mystery element of a potential conflict between his kingdom and Sovieshu’s/Navier’s makes me wonder if any feelings she has for him will immediately fade due to the danger he poses to her people--even after the remarriage. It’s easy to feel bad for Heinrey too since Navier is just coming off her bad relationship with Sovieshu while he’s already head over heels for her.
That being said, it adds an extra element of suspense that might’ve otherwise been quashed by the opening’s reveal. As much as I praised it, there would be a concern of just giving away the ending of the story like that--but that’s the gem: It’s not the end, it’s the end of an act/arc. There’s so much more to “The Remarried Empress” that we’re only just being given spoonfuls of at a time, and with the focus being on the build-up to the divorce, I get a feeling it may lead to a blindsiding reveal in the future.
Lastly, while this doesn’t have anything to do with the story itself, I have to say that reading the comments of it on Webtoons or posts about it on sites like this are just as entertaining. Everyone’s so sassy that I think the fanbase just keeps riling itself up behind these characters as much as the plot itself. I think if something big did happen in the story, I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone forgot for just a moment that it was fiction and rallied behind Navier all while screaming, “For our beloved queen, we ride at dawn!” because we’d just all be so swept away in our own energy. XD I don’t condone mob mentality, but this is one thing I could get behind.

I kinda miss the prompt where Sovieshu Reincarnated or Reborn into Modern Era 2005 and live for years, knows technologies, has vast curiosity to learn new things, faced Asia strict parents and Corona pandamic until he was at age of 30. He thinks that after years keeping himself virgin until 30th birthday will give you to become a witch or wizard. He scoffs because he thinks that's random nonsense until he met end of life, truck-kun killed him... bruh... so he got back to his first life where he used to be Emperor. He woke up at age of 25 year old Emperor, he still has mistress Rasta and Empress Navier but he wants to clear the mess and to stop the slavery and the crule plan coming from Heinrey that was secretly harming Eastern Empire without knowing and plaing to invade Eastern Empire. His habit from 2005 to 2035 modern era never changes. He is too humble, kind, caring, helpful, maybe strict but understandable, has common sense, germaphobic, always wears mask to keep himself from getting germs or that's make him feel secured and comfortable, always listening and fix misunderstanding. He can cook, clean, folds his clothes, can bath himself, everything that single person can do themselves. That's makes every servants worried whenever they asks to help but Sovieshu insisted and manages all by himself. Whenever he hears insult, sarcasm, blackmail to him, he can just simply laugh at him and give harsh truth and brutal insults with soft expression. He got all learned from his Asian Parents.
Here the link
https://www.tumblr.com/sovieshu-simp/689203706318749696/hello-i-have-one-request-its-about-sovieshu
OH MY GOD! THIS IS PERFECT!!
Sovieshu would be such a big germaphobe during this time, cause from what I can tell cleaning isn't the best during those times and even though he spent one whole life, he spent the next one in modern world....
He would also be able to do so many things and absolutely hate it at times when servants stop him and he would insult him like an Asian parent would with a polite smile and a petite form despite being tall an large and saying the most ruthless shit ever, like that audio:
"Guys, look at what he's wearing, it's giving the gap!"
Sovieshu: *with the sweetest smile ever* You mean the gap between your teeth?
"EXCUSEME-!"
---
yeah I'm cringe I know...also Navier can't handle this much shit...Rashta is like eh..she doesn't really care...

What if #8
Pretty much chaotic prompt. Also you can continue this story as you wish. 😊
TRE 1st life ended, second life is settled in modern era.
*In Le Modern Era*
Navier sitting on couch, watch Netflix on TV, married with Sovieshu who is working in the Big business. She was influenced by internet and now she became Sassy woman. Her husband came back from work.
Navier: Oh, hello dear how was your work?
Sovieshu: As usual, BTW did you enjoyed show on Netflix?
Navier: Nah, Nothings new. Oh wait. Let's make a prank.
Sovieshu: On who?
Navier: On Heinrey and his Cousin Mckenna.
Sovieshu: No.
Navier: Why?
Sovieshu: Because yes, I said No.
Navier: Because you hate him, because He stalked me and married me and made your life miserable and blah blah blah and all you know it.
Sovieshu: I- wait... Do you want take revenge?
Navier: I prefer Prank than Revenge :)
Sovieshu: *Deadpans her* Alright, but don't make it look weird.
Both remembers their past live and they decided to live on next life whatever.
*Few Moments later*
Heinrey: Thank you for inviting me!
Navier: No problem at all!
Mckenna: but why are we in Forest?
Navier: It's surprise, I wanted to show you on that way.
Mckenna: *Whisper to Sovi* What's she up to?
Sovieshu: *Whispers back* Idk she didn't gave me details.
Navier: What are you whispering?
McKenna and Sovieshu: NOTHING
Heinrey: Sus
*At the Beach*
Navier: We are going on Boat!
Heinrey: That's nice🤩 we are really on trip right?
McKenna: but it's said Storm will come in next hours
Navier: Who cares, I am dying for adventure.
Heinrey: Please don't die
Sovieshu: It's just Phrase, nothing going to die *tries to get along* *also thinks* why is my wife choosing dangerous adventure...
*On Le Boat*
Bad storm came and huge wave falls on boat
Sovieshu: IS THIS WHAT YOU CALLED PRANK?!
McKenna: WHAT?!
Heinrey: HOW COULD SHE BETRAY ME?!
Navier: Death is just an option.
And so they are dead now.
They went back to TRE but their life is now 3rd times. Only Sovieshu woke up and he is on bed with Empress Navier who was sleeping beautifully. It was after the intercourse after first wedding.
Sovieshu: I can't believe I went back to where I was first born in first life. *Stares at ceiling*
Navier: *woke up and gets up fast* I can't believe it WORKS"
Sovieshu: oh no....
And so Trouble starts in new life but back to their original world! Their bodies in Modern era are vanished and only found two other bodies. Unluckily Heinrey and McKenna didn't make it alive or Reincarnated and died tragedy in Ocean. 😔
Rip.
I wrote this at 4am and have no regrets without getting caught by my mom😅.

What if #4
In TRE people's reincarnated into Modern era but it's Spy x Family.
Sovieshu: Spy, his codename is "Raven" Cuz his eyes is grey while his hair is black.
Navier: Assassin, her codename is "Rose Blood" Cuz I always see her in red dress.
Heinrey: A Telepathy Child, he is internally crying cuz Navier is now his mommy and Sovieshu his daddy. ( A/n: Sorry heinrey, but I have to 😅)
Pheonix: Their Pet Harpy Eagle. ( It's a Heinrey's bird form but it doesn't related to him now)
Kosair: A Secret Police, also Navier's Brother but not Sis-con. Doesn't approve his sis married to Sovieshu.
Karl: Sovieshu's friend aka Spy messager ( like Frankie)
Kaufman: Sovieshu's Spy Boss.
Rashta: a spy colleague ( Similar to Nightfall), her codename is "Snow White". She get lost to Navier.
Ergi: Heinrey's Childhood friend in school.
Priest: Teacher 😃
Only Sovieshu, Navier and Heinrey remembers their past life except others. They don't know about their identity and memories. Yet they don't wanted to share it till one of them figures out. Heinrey decided not to tell their foster parents cuz he is telepathy duh.

Do we actually have canonical ages for the characters? Because I'm starting to get a hit concerned. Rashta's always been drawn pretty young and she acts young too but I kind of chalked it up to acting young as a defense mechanism, which she definitely does use. But I'm starting to have my doubts that it's just that. For one thing every other character is drawn so much more adult looking that it's hard not to notice. I mean if someone told me Rashta was 17 and Soveishu was 35, I'd believe them. There's also that image of her in the new chapter wearing a crown. It looks so oversized on her, like she's acting in a play. So do they have actual ages? Because I kind of need to be told this relationship isn't more messed up than it already is.
I don’t think the Webtoon has addressed the ages of the characters. I looked it up, and I couldn't find any definite answers. However, most people seem to agree (on Reddit, so take that as you will) that Sovieshu is around 25, Navier is 23, (surprisingly or not) Heinrey is 19-21 and Rashta is about 18 to 19. I don’t know if it is true or not tbh. I mean, those ages would make sense I guess.
Anyway, yeah, Rashta is 18 and Sovieshu is 25 and couple that with the huge power imbalance between them and that makes the relationship pretty fucked up in my opinion (and not mention how Sovieshu hopes Rashta will keep acting like a child which is messed up too 👀). I get that by modern standards, Rashta would be an adult, but still. Rashta has very little (no) power in their relationship. Sovieshu holds all the power. Plus, their emotional maturity widely differ and that can seen so clearly in the Webtoon. She is a child in compared to Sovieshu. You are right. It is like she is in a play, and that is exactly what Sovieshu wants. He wants her to play her part and bow out when he is finished with her.
I actually felt even worse for Rashta after finding out her age - she probably had been 16 or 17 when she first gave birth and now, Sovieshu is pretty much planning on using her and tossing her away. Also, her age does explain why she does keep making kinda stupid decisions.
Anyway, as always, the conclusion here is that, Sovieshu sucks and should fall in a ditch. He doesn't deserve Navier or Rashta.
