How can I have control of my life? I'm severely disabled physically so I don't leave my bed easily. I was traumatized by over-controlling parents so I don't even have a reference for control. I recently left a relationship that was also heavily controlling and abusive so the issue is re-presenting and I've been hoarding and occasionally self harming to try to feel any control and it's so compulsive I haven't been able to stop myself. I've started even hoarding obvious trash for the first time in my life. I have no access to a therapist right now and I'm on benefits so I can't even, like, make some friends at a job or college that I could talk to. I just want to have control of something. I just want to be able to make choices for myself that will actually make things better. I need some form of non-destructive control over myself or I'm worried my suicidal behaviour will rear its head too. Any advice you can give would be appreciated, especially from a mod who's disabled too.

When you're severely disabled and traumatised, it's hard to control your own life, which can result in a myriad of self-destructive behaviour, including those you've mentioned. It's completely normal, I promise.

Firstly, I recommend support groups - if you have Discord, have a look on disboard for disability-oriented servers. The big ones can be overwhelming at first, but you can decide how involved you are and attempt to make friends.

There are also Facebook groups you can join, especially ones about your specific conditions, which may help - they may have tips and tricks on managing your symptoms and making your life easier to deal with. This may not give you the exact control you're looking for, but consciously making your life easier, even if only slightly, is a form of control.

Secondly, you might want to do some experimenting - you appear to feel trapped, which is very valid given your personal circumstances, but a good way to stop feeling trapped could be by figuring out what you can do. What can you enjoy without harming yourself? On my worst days, I can lay in bed and play The Sims on my laptop, and that small enjoyment really helps because even though my body is forcing me to rest, I have a bit of control in how I spend that time.

Another option could be learning how to crochet, which will keep your hands busy - a set of hooks costs £5 or less here in England, so I hope you can also find cheap hooks where you are if you're interested, and if you can get cheap wool, it gives you something to do as there are loads of tutorials on YouTube. Obviously, I don't recommend it if you have problems with your hands or you can't afford it, but looking into creative hobbies may help you. Creating can be really helpful to deal with your emotions or process what you're going through, but it can also be fun - both of these things could be good for you as it gives you control and it might help with your self-harming.

This is going to be a long process of figuring out what works for you, as what works for me may not work for you, but it will be worth it, and we're always here for you if you need to talk or need more specific advice.

Am I the only who thinks it's a little cruel to break up with someone when they are in the middle of touring and then automatically get seen with another person. Like granted we don't know what happened but when you break up with someone while they are touring it's not like they can just go to ur house to try to talk to you about it if they have a show the next day or spend hours on the phone talking to u about it if they have rehearsals or something. The same thing happened with Chantel breaking things off with colson while he was touring. It just feels like when ur in high school and u txt a break up bc ur to scared to face them in person. Idk to me it seems very immature especially breaking off an engagement while he's touring

It does seem really highschool, like I feel like the public found out it was over before he did. Like she just got bored with him and decided to move on to Tyga without mentioning anything to Mod and was basically like “he’ll figure it out”. If feel so bad for him, he’s so proud of this new album and like 75% of it is about her and now he has to sing it if front of thousands of fans every night. She’s missing out on a good man. While we all know Colson can be rough around the edges and tends to have issues with drugs and fidelity that can often make relationships difficult , I truly feel like Mod is all around certified husband material! Why do all his exes do him so dirty. 😭

Battle Lessons

Run – Hide – Tell?

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”

As the battle for the ‘Run-Hide-Tell’ method rages on, one has tried to stay objective concerning the reasoning behind the government led initiative or as I like to call it the ‘die on your knee jerk reaction’ method. When you learned to cross the road did you blindly run out and hope for the best or were you taught to, assess for danger and then make an educated decision as whether or not to cross?

This perspective comes from my role as a tactical medic, inclusive of but not limited to multiple deployments with the military as a combat medic and over six years of deployment within the private security sector. I am sure that we can all meet somewhere amidst the common ground covered in the middle. My personal priority will always be damage control and the best practice to lessen casualty numbers where possible during and after the attack, numbers within the predicted yield or numbers calculated through the ripple effect.

Once a cell or individual has slipped through the Security Services net, which is not easy and doesn’t happen often? The target area will have already been chosen, the plan will be set in some cases years before, (Manchester) weapons of choice are cached, timings confirmed, watches synchronised and yield expected/hoped for from attack method calculated. Weapon or weapons of choice may include vehicles, knives, assault rifles, grenades or suicide vests, all genius on mainland Europe but not a new tactic from our enemies. After much discussion we can commonly place the attacks that we have seen so far as fluid and moving with no specific fixed killing area, they are mobile and opportunistic from the initial engagement, this alone is argument enough against running as an initial option. An enthusiastic terrorist will adapt which in turn may develop into a complex attack, housing potential for secondary or follow up devices or attacks. The reaction of the security force at this point or first responders, potentially unarmed will generally decide how far these attacks go. Armed unit response times are exceptional in the city of London but would never be the same in the vulnerable cities around the UK. To instil the practice of running with no purpose or thought will create the panic, chaos, and confusion needed to prolong the success of any attack.

How should you the public or people in general react to an attack, be it kinetic through rifle fire or through other means? I have no generic lists or fancy celebrity endorsed eye-catching posters with an easy to follow flowchart, just the mind-set of a soldier along with lessons learned from multiple years at war. These lessons will encourage you to take control of your own personal response in an empowering fashion. I call it the ‘Common Sense’ approach.

Military lesson focus

Actions on attack pre Afghan/Iraq were to (Return fire; Take cover,Return Appropriate Fire) RTR for brevity. As fighting intensified with ever evolving tactics during urban operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, a shift happened. The Tactics Techniques and Procedures TTP’s for all ground forces at the height of both insurgencies took the ‘common sense’ approach to ‘actions on’.

Breaking contact, getting off the X, one in the same, a method used to regain a potentially lost initiative or to escape the onslaught of a complex attack, in infantry terms and once battle commences they seek to out manoeuvre, out gun and out fox the enemy whilst maintaining momentum, thus enabling prosecution of the threat.

The opposite is required in the defensive ‘actions on’ of a civilian in the case of a terror attack, the goal is to thwart the momentum, stop the ripple effect. The drill must remain simple and transferable to the men and women of our society.

Now before you scream at your phone or computer screen ‘How do we return fire? That is the genius of it, you do not need to return fire, and the drill of ‘taking cover’ is a decent immediate action and the most effective way to avoid the initial onslaught. This does not mean stay there for ten minutes; taking cover may involve dropping immediately to the ground to avoid fragmentation, debris, or bullets if a rifle is involved. It may involve a 2-5 metre zigzag dash to the nearest hardened cover (wall, building anywhere avoiding glass) or the avoidance of a rogue vehicle. It may involve changes to your personal pattern, when travelling regardless of mode take your ear phones out and become more aware of your surroundings just as you were taught while crossing that road for the first time.

Bare with me as I manoeuvre to and from the battlefield, a full on firefight will involve soldiers bounding for no more than 1/2/3/5 metres at a time whist exchanging gunfire. One foot on the ground at all times and moving from cover to cover where appropriate. Leading our enemies into channels where they become the hunted, turning the tide so to speak. If this is the drill when we are fully equipped with weapons and armour why are we teaching our unarmed civilian population to flatly run?

Say these words and time yourself ‘I’m up, I’m running, I’m down’ that’s the absolute maximum exposure a soldier will give unless he is in the process of winning a Victoria Cross or he’s in the throws of the final assault on an enemy position, he is usually accompanied by support fire from flanks, air or the high ground.

Once the initial attack has happened as an individual or group they’ll be what’s known as a ‘soak’ period, time to assess the situation using all of your senses, identify the attackers, identify their weapons and make a choice, evade, defend or offend where you feel able. This is what’s known as you coming up with a workable plan, which may very well involve running, it’s all split second stuff – we as humans have an innate ability to assess risk and avoid danger, we’ve been doing it since the beginning of time.

So what? He/she is wearing a suicide vest. Therefore? My actions might be to dash into cover out of direct line of sight of him/her I then might look for a place to barricade myself in, along with others.

Leaders usually show themselves in times of strife, if that is not you, be confident about being a valuable team member. Going alone should not be an option, courage is contagious so embrace the adrenalin shift and as soon as you hear or mouth the words ‘I can’t believe this is happening’ believe it is happening, control it, and assess.

Look forward to the next Battle Lesson, this will concentrate on the ‘care under fire’, or ‘care under attack’ aspects of stopping the number of casualties free falling.

Justice for Chantel Moore, help Edmundston, New Brunswick

Hello again. Mod Lesya with another police death in Canada that deserves its own post.

On June 4th at 2:30 am, police were called to do a wellness check on Chantel Moore, an Indigenous woman from British Colombia who had recently moved to New Brunswick. She was fatally shot and killed for supposedly threatening officers with a knife. Police refuse to comment on if non-violent de-escalation was used before reaching for lethal force.

According to her aunt, she was very gentle and would never hurt a fly.

She was a mother of a 5 year old daughter.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women is a movement to address the widespread disappearances and deaths of Indigenous women across the globe, and the justice’s systems ignoring of the issue.

Some of these women are murdered or kidnapped by police, some by unidentified individuals, but it is an epidemic and a justice system failure.

The systematic killing of Indigenous women by police has been deemed an act of genocide.

Trudeau had promised to commit $13 million to the cause, but has since backed out of that promise.

Anti Indigenous racism in Canada

To anyone who says it’s not as bad here: educate yourself.

40% of incarcerated women are Indigenous despite only making up 4% of the total Canadian population

Canada has systematically ignored the clean water crisis on reserves for over 20 years, with more and more reserves continuing to be added in this time period as infrastructure isn’t maintained.

Statistics Canada cannot tell how many people die at police hands because they only count how many criminal charges were laid against the officer as a result. (breakdown of statistics with probabilities for the number of dead—this number might be drastically higher, as provinces such as Quebec do not have civilian watchdog agencies and Toronto’s watchdog agency is notoriously corrupt)

An average of 3 Indigenous women a month, every month, have gone missing over a 3 year span, and that’s only a fraction of the total time period this issue has been ongoing.

Wet’suwet’en was actively invaded by Canadian forces this year to build a pipeline.

Colten Boushie is only one of many non-law-enforcement deaths where the killer was deemed not guilty because Colten was an Indigenous man who was victim blamed

The genocide has not stopped.

There's this girl I really like, A.

I've known her all her life, I even lived with her and her mum for a year in my teens, when I was 14 and she was 7. I didn't like her then, not like that, and honestly, I didn't think about her like that until she was about 21 (she's now 24 and I'm 31), but we were both in relationships, and abusive ones at that, hers physically, mine emotionally.

I've been single about 6 months. I actually tried it on with her when I ended my relationship, but because I was getting clean from weed, going to therapy and being investigated for abusing my youngest (he was diagnosed with a rare condition in the end causing broken bones and brain bleeds, not actual abuse), A said to give it 6 months for me to get my life together, and then ask her again if I'm still interested.

I know she had a crush on me for years (her mum told me after I confessed to my own crush - apparently she thought we'd be a good couple and A had confessed to her crush to her mum a few days prior) but I'm scared to ask her again.

I only asked because I was a mess, not because I was thinking straight, but I don't want to get into a relationship, fuck it up and lose a huge part of my support bubble when I only have 1 other person I can truly rely on - her mum has said that won't happen, because I have spoken to her (not for permission, but to talk it through with someone), but what if it does anyway?

Do I take the risk? Is it worth it?

Your concerns about this girl are well and truly valid - you sound like you've been through a really tough time, especially in the six months, and regardless of the end outcome, this would be a big change.

No one can tell you if you should take the risk. That decision is yours and yours alone, as your reasons for and against doing so may be different to other people's.

Your concerns about what happens if it goes wrong are very valid, but what happens if it goes right? And while I am not here to tell you what to do, I do suggest thinking about the good scenario, too, and weighing that against the bad. Sometimes, keeping things the way they are is better, but that's a very personal choice and for some people, that's worse than not trying at all.

Even if the relationship itself doesn't work, you seem to have a strong basis where you may not lose them completely. It may be a little awkward at first, but you may not actually lose them.

Obviously, things change and things do go wrong, but denying yourself this happiness in concern of what might happen may not be what's best for you. And at the end of the day, you need to do what's best for you, whatever that may be and you definitely shouldn't feel guilty for that.

While A gave you a timescale, you don't have to rush this decision as it's a really big one in regards to your relationship with this girl and her family, and you deserve the space and time to work this out.

I don't think he's going to go public with another girl for a long time after this and he will probably have some trust issues bc of the way Megan so easily tarnished his image. Not to mention how he's probably not going to introduce anyone else to Casie for a very long time. I noticed colson does alot better with relationships that are out of the media and kept quiet. For example when he's dated some insta girls like Chantel, Sommer, Sahara when they break up they are done done, they don't get back together, they don't stay friends or anything and it's usually messy bc the girls like to be petty on social media but his relationships that he had kept quiet he usually tries to stay with them for a good bit and then tries to work it back out even if it's only to stay friends like with Halsey, and then that girl that whent on a podcast talking about she did anal in the back of Logan Paul's car with him, even Remi LaCroix they dated and said in a podcast recently that they are still friends and I have caught both dub and ash still liking some of her stuff on Twitter and still following her, then colson liked something of hers on Twitter in like 2019, even his hookups that are kept on the down low he has kept that Katie girl as a friend's with benefits for yrs before they stopped and then kiki she was with him since 2019. I feel like it's alot less pressure on not only the girl but on colson to so they can just kind of be like a normal relationship and move at their own pace and not be judged if they do decide to breakup and stay friends

I’m trying to find that old interview where he was asked if he rather date a regular girl or a celebrity and he said 100% a regular girl because he had a celebrity girl and she always wanted to call the paps when they went out and he hates that shit.
