mermaid au ft. gaiden duo (that i will ramble more about below)

ayatsuji is a merman, having been caught hostage by the government at a young age. ever since, majority of his life he's known it to be contained in tanks and experiments. he has faint memories of his life in the ocean, but they're very short-lived.

the staff assigned to watch over him come and go, and he learns not to memorize their faces when they don't even last a day trying to tolerate him. he's been infamous for his snarky tongue and in general just an ass to be with. his last one was the longest (tsujimura's mother), but no public records are shown regarding her late passing. ayatsuji refuses to speak about it, either.

in turn, he gains a new person to watch over him (tsujimura). ayatsuji has mostly kept to himself the past week, until he finds himself reading along to one of the mystery books tsujimura brought to work, and he's already caught up in the plot before he's already pointing out how obvious who the suspect was. tsujimura is more surprised about the fact that he's willing to converse with her.

i want to be able to include the rest of the gaiden cast here somewhere (like kyogoku and ango) but im not sure if im going to continue this au at all because this was done on a whim during the last day of mermay LMAO
