Shout out to people who are fans and enjoyers of hated media. Stuff people make 8 hour video essays on why it’s bad, shows or games or whatever that people dunk on to the point where it’s basically a trend even if they never interacted with said media. Bands or movies where people who have only heard of it will make judgement after hearing someone talk about their interest.
Keep being you, keep liking what you like authentically. Don’t let the bandwagoning or angry nerds get to you. You are some of the most awesome and chilliest people on the internet.

Spacebattles is such a confusing forum. Amazing authors with a lot of high quality and high word count fanfiction, but absolutely terrible readers. Just read a Hamefura/Mobuseka crossover story and the last arc had dozens of readers bitching and moaning that the main character didn't a nuclear missile on his enemies. Shitting on the author for a power of love asspull IN A FUCKING HAMEFURA/MOBUSEKA CROSSOVER. Some people are just wretched and shouldn't be allowed access to the internet.

The way I see it, trash can absolutely be wholesome and super enjoyable still. Like Mobuseka or this apparently. I have to read this now hahahaha
Yeah and I agree, but what I meant is that particular story, i started reading it because I thought it would be fun trash, but it wasn't trash. It was just a fun story about things going right and a small farmstead slowly growing as more and more outcasts and weirdos join the family.
That was not what I signed up for, i just wanted mindless crap to offset all that sweet stuff i read before, i wanted the equivalent of written junk food. That was not a full meal, far from it, it was more akin to a tasty sandwich, quick and good as a snack between more important stuff. Now I need to find another manga, one that is actually trash. Did the Furuhashi spidermanga already came out?

If you feel comfortable sharing, could you list the >10 obscure isekais you are currently obsessed with?
Yes of course!! With explanations and all!!!!! (Note: i am treating a series as “obscure” when i have 0 friends to talk abt any of them wiht :,) some of these are probably actually populair and im just not aware lol)
1. Lout of the counts family
I want og cale henituse biblically spiritually. i decided i want to get top surgery bc of this series. I am mentally unwell over this man. I would love this man if he was a worm. Literally changed every single pfp i have on anything to this man. I HAVE BEEN RANTING ABOUT THIS MAN FOR A MONTH NOW. MY FRIENDS ARE MAKING FUN OF ME ITS THAT BAD
2. Villains are destined to die
Love my girl penelope! I think her paranoia and the way she interacts with some charas is a little frustrating sometimes but i understand it at the same time, her situation is so scary and she doesnt know everything thats going on 🙏 i wanna go clubbing with her and let her have a moment to just have fun without any worries!!!!! I also like iklies i genuinely think hes just a mentally unstable 17 y old, a very therapy heavy 3 month plan could help him a lot
3. Mobuseka
Classic trash isekai anime but with the twist of it being very funny so i love this series anyway!!!!! Like this guy isnt winning by being kind hes just actively cheating his way through life, beating up nobles with shovels and just being a giant dick. I love this guy 10/10
4. The one with the vending machine
This one isnt obscure at all but i still wanna mention the anime where the guy is so obsessed with vending machines that he dies saving a vending machine from falling off a cliff. And then he wakes up in a fantasy world as a vending machine.
5. I’ve become the heroes rival
THIS SERIES HAD ME ACTUALLY LIKING A STRAIGHT COUPLE. LIKE OF COURSE I WOULDVE PREFERRED THE LESBIANS BUT MAN. THE STRAIGHT COUPLE WAS PRETTY ROMANTIC NGL.
6. I favor the villainess
AGAIN NOT VERY OBSCURE SINCE ITS GETTING ANIMATED BUT THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT I WISH EVERY OTHER ISEKAI MANGA/ANIME OUT THERE WAS I LOVE THEM I LOVE HOMOSEXUALITY
7. The way to protect the female leads older brother
This one is pretty dark compared to the rest on this list but roxana is SO smart and her and her mans are so ❤️❤️❤️ together i hope neither of them dies :,)
8. Beware of the villainess
I LOVE MELISSA NINE AND YURI SO MUCH!!! CARTENA AND BOBBY ARE SO ADORABLE TOGETHER!!! I LOVE HOW MELISSA DOESNT GIVE IN WITH ANY OF THE TERRIBLE MEN AND SHE IS SUCH A GIRLS GIRL!!!!!! MELISSA YOU ARE A ROLE MODEL
9. Omniscient readers viewpoint
Again. Not that obscure since its getting a series. And i havent even read it completely yet. But 1 friend of mine told me about it and now my tiktok page is getting bombarded with orv angst and im 💀💀💀 literally crying at every fucking stupid slideshow. HOW IS ONE SERIES THIS SAD. MAN.
10. The empress’ lipstick
Ngl i dropped this after she panicked about finding the lipstick bc i could not handle the stress. Somehow i can handle roxanas crazy plots but i couldnt handle this??? IN ANY CASE its still a really funny manhwa and i think the main character is hilarious while also giving some insight about beauty standards somehow???
Another series’ ive been enjoying is “royal marriage”, its not an isekai but it follows a really smart woman maneuvering through noble life and getting rid of trash and standing up for herself so its the same vibe as some of them villainess isekais :P

Mobuseka is a weird once since the creator is actually an OI fan, and his only exposure to otome games is from other otome Isekai stories. More goes to show how utterly attached these writers are from the media they’re supposedly writing about.
At least mobuseka is actually funny
MobuSeka aka "tell me you never touched a otome game without saying you never touched a otome game"

Trapped in a Dating Sim
Tumblr media
Damn. Next time I teach writing I am DEFINITELY using this story as an example. The most important element a story can have is internal consistency. People will put up with just about anything as long as it's consistent. It's impressive -- and really OBVIOUS to see -- how the story maintains it's internal consistency even though it admits right at the start that the world is broken. It's also very funny.
Trapped in a Dating Sim, aka Mobuseka, begins with a man who's been blackmailed into completing a bad videogame for his little sister. The game is a dating sim that's been put out by a company that typically only makes fighting games. The company didn't know how to make a dating sim, made a bad one, and then tried to compensate by stuffing it full of what they do know how to do, which is both fantasy and Mecha fight scenes -- think a really bad Sakura Wars ripoff by someone who didn't know what they were doing.
Every gamer out there has run into a similar game, made by someone who didn't know what they're doing and stuffed full of what they were good at as a distraction. And every gamer has at least watched someone hate-play a game to completion.
Then, dazed by a weekend spent in front of the videoscreen, our guy falls down a flight of stairs, dies, and to his horror wakes up as a minor background character inside the game. At first our guy Leon is content to live out his days making snarky remarks in obscurity, but then he acts to protect himself and others, changing the game in the process. It also becomes clear that someone else is changing the game as well, with less concern for the consequences.
The world is still a badly-designed mishmash put together in a slapdash fashion by people who didn't know what they were doing. Instead of trying to distract you from that fact while hurriedly fixing things behind the scenes the story leans into it, and that's where it becomes interesting. Internal consistency is the glue that holds a story together, but in a well-designed world like Ascendance of a Bookworm it's hard to see that glue. But this isn't a perfectly designed custom world like Bookworm. This is a jalopy built out of mismatched parts. Internal consistency is obviously the only thing holding it together, so the viewer is able to see just how important that feature is in storytelling -- and especially for comedy.
The show points out the problems with all the genres it plays with. Dungeon design is stupid, and the characters in dating sims are often petty and cruel, acting like they're perpetually emotionally stuck at age 13. (Such people do exist. Dealing with them is just as horrific as it sounds.) One of my favorite parts of the show is how actions that are seen as praiseworthy inside the dating sim scenes are often viewed quite harshly by mature adults, who punish them accordingly. In the same light, Leon the main character can be seen as selfish and brusque, or as a grown man acting quite understandably when continually forced to put up with middle school bullies.
Comedy is a genre where most shows fail before the end of the first episode. Five episodes in, Mobuseka is still engaging and funny. Let's hope it keeps balancing all it's mismatched parts on the thread of internal consistency.
