I Find Disability Drama Annoying
I can find "Did you hear X disabled person with a large online following did Y?" or some stupid shit all day but can't find real disabled people show photos of their EDC, or strap setup, bag recommendations. I can't find wheelchair reviews, recommendations for spare parts, or brands that sell reasonable prices.
Everyone is so fucking focused on chasing clout and being a "influencer" or "promotional speaker" or whatever instead of giving actual, tangible, meaningful advice about living with a disability (especially one that requires a complex mobility aid).
I fucking hate it. Google is worthless (though for different reasons), and Reddit is just people asking for vague advice displayed in an incomprehensible format.
Tumblr is a lot of the same shit just with a better API policy.
I wish more people just ran their own sites and posted meaningful, practical shit. Because when I need advice or a recommendation, I can't find it.
And yeah, I'm old. And I remember when the internet was more than 5 websites that steal everyone's content for ad clicks.

Whether Didion was successful in accurately documenting her era, either in dress or in syntax, she fundamentally shaped the tradition of female literary celebrity that would follow her. Stylish and mysterious women had written books before, but she was the first to work at the nexus of Hollywood fame and New Journalism, not to mention the rise of second-wave feminism. The times were right to launch a persona that could bridge the divide between popular and literary culture, especially in the era of upwardly mobile literary white women, whose mere presence in the public sphere could register as feminist “progress.” While Gloria Steinem dressed as a Playboy Bunny, Didion pioneered a more buttoned-up form of liberal feminist enlightenment: a public intellectual whose brains were somehow compatible with her ballet dancer physique and soft voice. In so doing, she paved the way for Donna Tartt and Sally Rooney, two other white women whose brooding books, shy manners, and minimalist wardrobes made them favorites online, from academic twitter to BookTok, the corner of viral video platform TikTok where young people recommend and discuss literature. Tartt and Rooney have both bristled at the pressures of fame, but of course, that’s part of the coolness equation that Didion taught. More important than proximity to Malibu or writing sentences that unroll like carpets is disdain for attention. Rooney’s protagonists in particular have absorbed the other lesson Didion taught without saying a word: to be beautiful and tragic you must be very, very thin. For her, syntactical economy was synonymous with every other kind. If her sentences were stripped back of effusion or unnecessary details, so too her plain (expensive) wardrobe and spare frame made her just as chic. Didion defined coolness as disaffection. She disregarded the impulse to make political appeals as another form of appetite. Finn McRedmond notes that Rooney’s protagonists “can only produce good work when [they are] starving.” Appetite is anathema to coolness. Despair is slim and languid; it makes a dress hang in elegant straight lines.

HGUC 1/144 E.F.S.F Prototype Long-Range Support Mobile Suit RX-75 "Guntank"
Guntank is here!! I was initially hesitant on picking up this kit, as it's one of the older HGs from 2000. I'd seen online that it has pretty limited articulation. However I saw it in store for only $17 and couldn't pass it up.
The kit is pretty small, with only four main runners, a polycap runner, and a set of rubber treads (which admittedly smelt as though they'd been in the box since 2000). Unlike modern model kit rubber treads as you'd find in a Tamiya tank kit, they're a solid part more similar to the HGUC Gouf's heat rod, and simply clip into a hole on the bottom of the tank's road wheels. The biggest disappointment being that the wheels and tracks don't move at all.
Tumblr media
Being a kit without any hands, the Guntank lacks any accessories, but to be honest it doesn't really need them. The guns on the hands and shoulders look really nice with a bit of weathering, although the shoulder cannons come in two halves so you'll need to deal with a seam down the middle. I used some plastic cement but you can still kinda see it if you look closely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a pretty plain kit with limited surface detail for panel lining, and no sticker sheet, so I spruced it up with some decals and heavy weathering. This is a combination of the official Bandai multi-use Mobile Suit Gundam EFF decals for the Guntank, the Xingfeng knockoff decal spares for the GM Spartan, and some spare tank decals from my Tamiya kits. I think the overall effect makes it fit in super well with the busy Origin gunpla. As usual, the Bandai decals were a pain and tore pretty easily, but look pretty great on the kit.
I weathered this using a heavy sponging of black, as well as mixing some browns and my orange rust to mimic the rusty appearance on the box art (as well as cover up torn decals). I also drybrushed silver over the high points and used my Tamiya weathering sets (D and C) to add heat blueing to the guns and rust and soot everywhere else, as well as some oil stains on the rear vents.
There's a little Hayato modeled in the cockpit. Usually I'm not for painting 1/144 scale people but he's pretty prominent behind the windscreen so I gave it a go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's a little smudgy but I think it turned out well. Here's the image I referenced.
Tumblr media
Now I've finally completed my UC 0079 White Base crew!
Tumblr media
Pictured here left to right are my HGUC Ball, HGUC Cucuruz Doan's Island Guncannon, HGUC Origin RX-78-02, this Guntank, and HGUC Origin GM Missile Pod.
Overall the Guntank is a very simple and fun little build. Like any tank kit the wheels area little tedious to cut out and sand, but it's otherwise quick and enjoyable. It's a cheap kit so great to try out painting techniques on as well.

Donnie and Mikey are streaming together today. Their models are wearing shirts reading 'Smarts and Crafts Team', blue jeans, lab coats, safety glasses, gloves, and boots. They're messing with some science based crafts on the AR set. Shelldon and River sitting on the a box that has the chat box overplayed on it.
"So we got some resin to try out some crafts we found online." Mikey announced while they put some drop cloths on the floor around the table. "But we don't trust something not spilling, and this stuff can get tricky to clean if things go wrong."
"Which is part of why we're using UV resin, that we can just pop in the basking room for a bit to let set." Donnie says, in flat tone that sounds a bit sarcastic, "We're going to start simple, then work up to complicated, though that may go in reverse with us."
Mikey goes off screen to grab some supplies. While Donnie puts the big bottles of resin on the counter.
A cartoony turtle shell slides across the screen to have cartoon Mikey pop out with fan fare, coins tossed around, and Miss. PaintSlatter Donated $30!
Mikey jogs back in to check the notification. "Thank You, Miss. PaintSplatter for the $30. Oh 'Do Shelldon and River have access to mobile games? Hey Dee?"
"Shelldon doesn't play mobile games, but River plays Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. Partially for the app exclusive items you send to New Horizons, partially to befriend Villagers she wants, but can't find in NH." Donnie answers while he sets up some small molds. Then picks up and tests a heat gun.
"Well, we got the resin, pigments, molds, mold release, heat gun, little charms we plan to put into the resin. Are we missing anything?" Mikey askes.
"Spare gloves, paper towels, and the tall trashcan!" River answers back, then smacks the chatbots out of the chat box!
"And proper ventilation, or maskes." Shelldon says with a bit of snark.
"Right, I'll go get the portable ventilation, and trashcan and Mikey, please grab our ventilator masks from the art closet, a box of gloves, and the paper towels." Donnie instructs while they go grab said items.
Shelldon and River are left to entertain chat.
"What did I find that scared Dee? Sorry, we have been sworn to secrecy under threat of having our game libraries memory reset to no save files." River says.
Shelldon nods with his eyes closed. "And I don't have access to the file that was sent because Dee blocked me from getting it."
"FOR GOOD REASON!" Donnie tells from across the room, as he brings in what looked like an air purifier with a long tube sticking out of the back. "And for those who are confused, yes this is the portable ventilation system. Yes, it's a air purifier that I found in the dump, and heavily modified it." He announces with a bit of pride, "While I'm sure I could find something like this on the market, I wanted to build one myself."
Mikey also returns with his stuff, and organized the counter a bit so there's less of a chance of something getting knocked over.
They proceeded to finish set up, and get started on some simple resin experiments. And at least one small spillover and frantic clean up, before shouting 'You saw nothing!' And a 'Clip Recorded and Saved' from both Shelldon and River, who don't mention it right away.
Chat was still begging for the info of what Scared Dee, but after some were knocked out it calmed down, people started giving suggestions on what the guys could do with the resin.
----------------------
Masterpost
My actual favorite nickname for Donnie is Tello, and I want to have River call him 'Tello Tello', but that can't really happen with most of my story. Unless I can think of another behind the scenes post.

Who still plays Pocket Camp
I still play Pocket Camp. I have a full friend list of over 90 people who still play, too. I was surprised yesterday morning when I started up the game and got the message that it was shutting down in a few months.
I've been a Happy Helper member for, apparently, 1,738 days, getting Leaf Tickets every month as part of that plan, so I'm sitting on a stash of over 4,500 tickets still that I can't possibly spend before the game ends and they become worthless.
I also stockpiled snacks. I had over 4,400 gold treats yesterday, 4,000 bronze treats, and 1,980 silver treats. I just found it tedious to give them away, and really only bothered when new characters showed up so that I could level them up to be on par with everyone else. That's also when I would give away all of the themed snacks, so I only have, at most, about 200 of any of those. I last gave them away about two months ago, I think, when the last batch of new animals dropped.
I play the game a lot, actually. I have a special voice trigger for Alexa where I say "Alexa, do the thing," and it starts a 178-minute timer for me. If I say "Alexa, do the other thing," it lists all of my active timers so that I can see how much time is left. I harvest my flowers, tell Alexa to do the thing, and when the timer goes off again, I open the game up. I just hit level 599 today when I gave away another 120 gold treats, 5 at a time to 24 animals, to see if I can give them all away before the game ends.
I've never been good at moderation.
But nothing lasts forever. The game has felt unsustainable for the last couple of years. There's a new set of furniture items each month for the latest event, but for years now each month has had a bug-collecting event, a fishing contest, and a gyroidite-collecting event each and every month. It was a pattern, and I was getting tired of it. How many new items could they possibly make before the game simply became too large to keep updating it? Apparently, two more months' worth.
I still played, though. If nothing else, I justified it by saying I was getting weekly Platinum Points. I spend those points. I've gotten calendars, keychains, posters, all kinds of things with those points. I had to pay shipping, of course, but I still got those things. I guess I'll have to do the actual monthly "quests" in Switch Online or something if I want to keep getting Platinum Points. I sure ain't gonna play Fire Emblem on my phone.
I knew this would happen eventually, and the game did last for seven years, which is incredibly long for a mobile game that hasn't had any major changes to it in so long. I do wish I'd been able to add Hiropi to my Switch friend list, though, or find out who they are. We've given each other a combined total of over 2,700 gifts now, since we've managed to keep it going nearly every day.
I have no idea what the offline version of the game will be. Maybe I'll be able to get all those fortune cookie items I never spent Leaf Tickets on. Or landscape items I never bought. Maybe they'll finish releasing all of the animals. I'm sure there are still some they haven't.
Or maybe, just maybe, I'll find myself with a lot of spare time all of a sudden after seven years of playing the same game.
Wouldn't that be something?

Electronic Arts Q1 2024 Earnings Conference Call (August 1st)
This happened today and Dragon Age was mentioned in the opening Prepared Remarks section of the call (emphasis mine):
"To do more extraordinary things for our people, players and communities, our teams are building the strongest pipeline in the history of EA to drive multi-year growth. Over the next few years, we will launch numerous experiences that grow and deepen the fandom of our legendary IP. Our multi-year targeted investments toward our biggest opportunities include global titles like blockbuster storytelling from Dragon Age, incredible skateboarding gameplay and social connection from skate, and a revival of EA SPORTS College Football that celebrates the action, culture and tradition of the sport like never before. We’re also hard at work on a new experience from The Sims that will transform what players can do with creativity, a sprawling action adventure Iron Man game, a reimagination of Battlefield as a truly connected ecosystem, and the expansion of the Apex Legends universe across platforms, geographies, and modalities of play. The most recent reveal of our Black Panther project — set in a massive, explorable universe — marks the latest chapter in EA’s collaboration with The Walt Disney Company and the Marvel Games team."
[source and full Prepared Remarks transcript]
Dragon Age was then mentioned during the Q&A section of the call (emphasis mine):
Q: "Last quarter it was noted that players were concentrating their spend on major franchises. Just wanted to see first if there was any update to that? And then, Andrew, in your commentary you highlighted a goal for Apex as an experience across platforms, I'm assuming that includes mobile as well, so can you speak to how you envision potentially relaunching that title on phones and how the approach could differ to the prior game? Thank you." A: "Yeah, so let me touch on the first part. I do think we continue to see big titles getting bigger, and live services getting bigger, and certainly as a company with a broad portfolio of large-scale IP and large-scale live services, we believe that we will be long-term beneficiaries of that trend. You know, that doesn't mean that we won't build smaller titles over the course of time. There are these incredible stories that we believe should be told in the context of entertainment. We are focusing our investment so that we can build a cost-base around those that's appropriate, but we're also really getting behind our biggest opportunities, and as we've talked about, our strategy and building these experiences that entertain massive online communities. Our expectation is that will be a large scale growth driver for us. But, you know, when thought about the right way, games like, you know, Dragon Age, and Jedi, can tell truly blockbuster stories and really break into that top category of games. I think what we see today is the mid-tier and lower games that, you know, maybe did pretty well through Covid because people had a lot of spare time - they're the part of the industry that really aren't doing and performing as well. And as we think about our future, you should expect that we'll continue to focus our investments and our energy and our resources against these big opportunities because we do believe that is where the industry is trending."
[source: call audio webcast]
There were no further mentions of Dragon Age, Mass Effect or BioWare during the call.
Here is the latest Existing Live Services & FY24 Title Slate (announced titles), from the call's supporting documents -
