If there was one thing about Miche, he was always trying to get out of work. Erwin and Miche needed to discuss some contract executions and instead of meeting in an office, or literally anywhere else, Miche insisted they meet at a country club. For no other reason than it was a beautiful day.

“I knew you’d pull some shit like this?”, Erwin grumbled as he sipped his whiskey.

“ Whatever do you mean?” Miche feigned innocence. 

“ We were supposed to talk about our contract for tonight.”

“ And we will. Can’t we stop and enjoy the sunshine?”

Erwin rolled his eyes at his friend’s antics. “ I mean look around: beautiful sun, beautiful grass, beautiful people, what’s not to like?” He watched Miche eye one of the bev cart girls serving customers a few feet away. There it is comical how fast Miche got distracted. But he made no argument ; Miche always managed to get the job done. 

Miche let his nosiness get the best of him. The bev cart girl kept her eyes down as she murmured something to her customers. She clutched the ends of her tennis skirt and watched her take the ever so tiniest step back, as if she kept on being lured into the conversation she no longer wanted to be a part of. 

“ Are you that stupid, sweetie? This is a Bud Light, not an El Presidente.” 

Now that made his ears perk up. The older fellow’s condescending tone was hard to miss.

“ You’re lucky you’re pretty since you can't seem to do anything else.”

Miche set his beer and stood up. Erwin sighed as Miche walked over to the other table. The waitress and the two customers immediately looked up at him.

“What do you want?”, the elderly gentlemen sneered.

“I’m the manager. What’s the issue?” Miche asked.

The younger one of the two customers stayed quiet as the other scoffed. “ You were just sitting over there,” he stated matter of factly, pointing to where Erwin sat. 

“ Am I not allowed to enjoy my own country club?” he rebutted. “ What’s the issue?”

“ She got me the wrong drink.”

“And?”  Miche responded with a mocking tone, as if it was a bother to ask.

“ And she-”

“ What I saw was this lovely angel,” he said gesturing to her, “ giving you the wrong drink and instead of correcting her politely like a normal person, you’re being an asshole. And I have a problem with that.” 

Miche could have smacked him in the face and he still wouldn't look as shocked.“You can't talk to me like that,” he defended himself. 

Miche turned to the other customer, “This is your friend?”

He shook his head no. “ N-No, he’s a business client.”

“ And you’re okay doing business with someone who thinks it’s okay to demean a waitress? You do business like that?”

“No actually, my-my daughter is a college student and she waitresses on the weekends.”

Miche chucked humorlessly, “ You might want to apologize.” 

The older gentleman shifted in his seat, looking at his friend. “ I-”

“ Not to him,” Miche cut him off firmly. “ To this angel right here.”

Miche crossed his arms and glared at the older gentleman, his green eyes narrowing with a fierce intensity. His ice cold gaze carried a promise: anything less of an apology would not be taken lightly. 

“ I’m sorry-” he choked out. “ It won’t happen again,” he said quickly.

Miche picked up his drink and handed it to her. “ Now, angel, why don’t you get him a new drink?” he commanded softly.The complete shift in his voice shocked her. All she could do was blink in amazement at her stranger in shining armor. Miche gave her a subtle wink, so she took the drink from his hands. 

Miche took his seat once again as the lovely angel walked up and crouched next to Erwin.“ Your drinks are on me. Your boyfriend is awesome.” She smiled at Miche and walked over to her cart with some pep to her step. 

“ You really should listen to your boyfriend more often, “ Miche teased. 

Erwin pondered. “Well office hours are best without the office,” he agreed with defeat

Miche raised his drink in the air, “ I’ll drink to that.”

As much as Miche tried to get out of work, Erwin was glad to do business with Miche.

king's college, hamilton & custis: two very different 1773 students

Jacky Custis (Washington's stepson) enrolled at King's College in May 1773, but "dropped out" in less than a year. Crazy how small colonial America was, because guess who else began attending King's College in 1773 before being formally matriculated in 1774? Alexander Hamilton. Who, like George Washington who originally wanted to send Jacky to Princeton, had applied first to Princeton but gone to King's College after being rejected.

You can really see their contrasting motivation because Hamilton was devouring all these books and whatnot as per usual, and Jacky was out here sending letters to his mother going "the teachers look upon me in a particular light aka they suck up to me a lot"; Myles Cooper the president of King's College writing to Washington in the best light possible at first, saying that Jacky "dines with the Professors and myself in the College-hall...I doubt not will make a Proficiency equal to the warmest Wishes and Expectations" in July. But they gave up the ghost and Washington wrote in December that Jacky wouldn't be returning to King's College. Very passive aggressive: "I have yielded, contrary to my judgment, & much against my wishes, to his quitting College." (Myles Cooper is also the Loyalist that Hamilton tried to help by talking down the Patriot mob long enough for him to escape.)

From the notes in Cooper's September letter to Washington, it appears that Jacky left King's College late September and arrived (?) at Mt. Vernon on October 2nd, never to return. Washington assumed this was just a mini vacation but it wasn't. Knowing this and that Hamilton most likely started studying in fall of 1773, there's a very slim chance that Custis and he crossed paths at least once.

Someone write that fanfic for me. Hamilton remembering a lackadaisical, pompous student he met at King's College, joking and sharing the story with the military family - Washington realizing who he's talking about, but not saying anything much until Hamilton realizes in horror that the "John or whoever that ate with the professors and never picked up a book and went on and on about his girl Nelly" is General Washington's son Jacky.

This is me still fixating about the southern Hamilton au, but it tickles my fancy to think that both Washington's actual son and his rumored illegitimate son attended the same college in the same year, though with wildly different results. More realistically, even if Hamilton never met Jacky, it still must've been an awkward conversation with the general, if it ever got brought up. "I studied at King's College, sir." "Oh really? My son attended King's College in 1773." "Oh! I started studying there in 1773 too, maybe I met him!" "Probably not since he dropped out in a few months." "Oh."

Sirius' family has magically forbidden him from dating anyone until Regulus finds a suitable pureblood partner. The problem is, Sirius is in love with a certain werwolf, and Regulus' romantic inclinations remain a mystery.

James, a pureblood, is nothing if not eager to help a friend.

chapter 2 of my woman!jack au. ao3 rewrite of s5e10 house counsel.

“We would’ve been more comfortable in Aruba,” Jack says.

“You prosecutors don’t have the time for frivolous travel like we do. It’s too bad such a great mind is wasted on this office. Third in the class,” Paul volleys right back with a nod to Claire. “But I’ve never lost a case on account of my 2.5, have I. And what do they say, the C students end up kicking the A students in the ass? That’s probably not it, oh well Jackie, I can’t wait to do it anyway.”

“We have Furini on tape,” says Claire. The case is a slam dunk.

“Another A student?” says Paul. He’s smug.

“Law review too,” Claire says, trying not to seem too defensive. “But you don’t have to be to see where this is going.”

Jack leans back a little in her chair and pushes her hair behind her ears, tousling it ever so slightly. Claire likes Jack’s hair a lot. She likes the shine, how soft it is to touch, how it smells like coconut and honey. She does dye it, Jack confirmed one day, looking in the bathroom mirror. She had to get her roots redone. Claire likes her faint crows feet and smile lines, too. She presses play on the cassette. “Mr. Parks is all taken care of, Vin. Bada bing, bada boom.” “Good job, John.” “I think the meaning is obvious,” Jack says.

“Sure it is,” says Paul. “They were talking about Miss America. Look Jackie, I hate to burst your bubble but this case is gonna go the way of all flesh.”

“Because you’re the defense counsel?” Jack says, playfully incredulous.

Paul grins and cocks his head to the side. “Motion to suppress. That tape will never be heard by a jury. Oh, and Anna sends her love. She wants you to come over sometime.”

“Tell her we’ll all go to Aruba this weekend.”

“Sounds wonderful. See you in chambers, Jackie, Miss-”

“Kincaid,” Jack says.

“Miss Kincaid. She seems like a good one,” he says on his way out.

“Jackie?” Claire says when the door closes.

“Yeah, well. Old nicknames die hard.”

“You two seem close,” Claire says, not even trying to hide her annoyance. He wasn’t her typical type. Jack generally has little patience for macho posturing. For dick measuring contests. She does usually win those, however.

“Exes,” she says. “Two years and we never did anything but argue and try to beat each other at pool.”

“Two years,” Claire says. “I didn’t know you had that in you.”

“I didn’t,” Jack says, her voice matter-of-fact. “Ask Carolyn Waters.” Claire thinks she would not have gotten along with 23-year-old Jack. ---

“It’s about the battle, Claire, not the prize,” Jack says.

“You would agree with me if it was anybody else,” is her response. “You’re acting like defending a mob boss is some sort of noble cause.”

“It’s all a part of the game,” she says. Jack can really piss Claire off. Something about Paul Kopell brings out her cynical, egotistical side.

“Last I heard, it was about justice,” Claire says.

“Justice is a story we tell to make ourselves feel better, not something we can reasonably seek. Effective prosecutors should do their best to let it be the byproduct.”

“Of what?” Claire says, knowing that Jack was about to say;

“Of winning, plain, simple, and as often as possible.”

“I’m not in this to score points,” Claire says.

“Well you better change that, Claire, or you’ll never sleep again,” Jack says with that charming, fond, smile. It’s hard to stay mad at her when she looks at her that way. Claire does her best imitation of a frown.

“Adam, we have the tape on Furini. If we’re lucky, he won’t want to spend the rest of his life in prison.”

“Good,” says Adam in that tired but sure tone of his.

“I meant what I said, about winning,” Jack says, and takes another sip of scotch.

“Do we really have to talk about work?” Claire responds. She’s had about enough of the case today, and Jack will not let this go. She insists on winning her over.

“What else is there to talk about?” She says, and she has a point. It’s not like they do much else.

“You could ask me about lunch with my mom,” she says after thinking for a second.

“How was lunch with your mother, Claire,” Jack says, mock-interested (because she can guess how it was). She leans into her space Claire leans in too, matching her challenge.

“Awkward and unpleasant,” she says. Claire takes a sip of her pinot noir and rests her her chin on her hand. “She wouldn’t stop going on about my biological clock.” Jack lets out a bright scoff.

“You’ve got some time on that one,” she says.

“I’m in no rush,” Claire says, and brings her bottom lip between her teeth. She touches Jack’s calf with her own. Jack places her hand on her knee.

“I’d hope not,” says Jack. “Cause, I’d be of no help.”

“Thank God.” Jack raises her glass to that.

“Anyway,” she says, “if you get too focused, you’ll drive yourself insane.” Claire goes to respond, to say something pithy, but Jack doesn’t let her. “I’m being serious, Claire.” Claire opens her mouth and closes it. She lowers her head and picks it back up. She puts her hand on the back of her neck.

“I know,” Claire says. “I can feel it happening.”

“So stop,” Jack says. “Don’t beat yourself up if you lose a motion, hell, if you lose a case. Move on, and do your best to win. But if everything is about justice, and you don’t get it, you’ll--”

“Make myself miserable, I know.”

“Good,” says Jack. “You’re getting it.” She touches her shoulder affectionately. Claire sips her wine.

“Your friend plays the game by a different set of rules,” Claire says. She’s standing, leaning over the table. She’s been pacing the room, trying to come up with a way to reindict and coming up empty. Paul Kopell is certainly a smart guy. “He and I are not playing the same game anymore, Claire,” Jack says from the couch. She is sitting back, sunk into the leather, her heels are on the floor and her legs are tucked under her. She’s been staring off into the distance for ten minutes, thinking about what, Claire can’t say. This revelation concerns her, she wonders what Jack is about to get into.

“Is that disappointment, or the sound of your ego deflating?”

“It’s contempt,” Jack responds. “He’s reprehensible. First day of law school, ‘What’s the cornerstone of the adversarial process?’” She rises from the couch.

“I don’t need the socratic attitude,” Claire says. Jack walks up close to her, comfortable. The top of her blouse is unbuttoned and Claire’s eyes linger at her collarbone as she tilts her chin up to face her.

“Just answer the question, Claire.”

“Two independent counsel, arguing points of fact and points of law before an impartial judge and jury,” she responds reluctantly.

“Right,” Jack says. “The operative word being ‘independent.’ Paul crossed a line.”

“He didn’t do anything illegal, Jack. He listened to Dasso brag. You heard the tape.” Claire rests her hands on the desk behind her. Jack stands across the room from her with her arms crossed, anger apparent on her face-- she’s even a little red. Her hands are balled into fists.

“He facilitated the operation of a criminal enterprise.” Jack is enraged. That must be why she hadn’t said a word for so long. “How do you think he knew Lempert’s spending habits?”

“Maybe they had cappuccino together,” Claire says. She can’t help the it. Jack is reaching at best but there was no telling her anything when she got like this.

“The juror questionnaires,” Jack says, realizing mid-speech. “How much do you owe, how much do you make. He knew exactly what he was doing in voir dire, he asked the questions that would find him the person most likely to take a bribe. I can’t believe this,” she says.

“I’m not sure I do,” says Claire. Half of her is trying to spare Jack the pain that finding out something like this is true would cause her. “Paul Kopell goes the extra mile, every time. I just didn’t expect him to drive the car into a wall.”

The clerk leads them to it. Claire sees the devastation in Jack’s eyes, the pain of betrayal. It’s heartbreaking. In the cab back to the courthouse, she takes her hand and gives it a gentle squeeze. Jack sighs and squeezes back.

“Twenty-five years ago, Paul stayed up until 3:00am with me teaching me the rule against perpetuities,” Jack says.

“Smart has nothing to do with honest,” Adam replies. “What are you gonna do?”

“Burn him at the stake,” says Jack. She looks tired.

“Even if we can implicate Kopell, it’s only an E felony.”

“No,” says Jack, determination and rage in her voice. “It’s an A felony. Conspiracy to commit murder. Paul picked Lempert’s name.” Jack is taking things to far, Claire thinks, or she’s going to. She thinks about asking her, if this were any other attorney, would she do something like this?

She thinks better of it, but tries to sway her anyway. “You don’t think he knew they were going to kill Lempert?”

“It doesn’t matter. He set the chain of events in motion. Do you want to convict Dasso?” Claire and Adam nod. “Paul can give him to us.”

“You son of a bitch,” says who must be Paul’s wife.

“Anna, calm down. You could’ve called, Jack, you have my number,” Paul says, bursting with anger, spitting the words out.

“I’m sorry, it fell out of my rolodex,” says Jack. The room feels like it’s going to light on fire.

“Are you happy, Jackie?” Paul says bitterly.

“Happy yes, I’m so happy to discover one of my closest friends is a felon.”

Paul actually laughs. “Even if Dasso bribed the clerk, what the hell has that got to do with me?”

“Don’t talk to me like I’m stupid, Paul.”

Anna looks Claire straight in the eyes as if to say how could you. “This is really getting your juices going, isn’t it,” she says.

“Anna, if you can’t let me proceed, you’d better step outside.” Paul gestures to Claire. Jack makes a stop motion to her, and though she wasn’t going to leave anyway, she appreciates the show of respect.

“Give you Dasso, who the hell do you think I am? You know what, Jackie, you can’t even carry my briefcase, you never could.” Jack shows how hurt she is: her eyes dart to the side, where Claire is standing. She can see Jack starting to lose her composure, like she’s going to cry, or like she’s going to hit Kopell. “I’m gonna get this bullshit charge dismissed and then write you a civil suit that will have your great-grandchildren answering motions.”

Paul storms out and Anna is close behind him. When the door closes, Jack sinks into the couch. Claire sees one tear roll down her cheek. She goes to take her hand, but Jack pulls it away.

“I’m going to go get a cup of coffee,” Claire says. “Want anything?”

“I’m good,” Jack says. She looks out the window.”

“I don’t need your sarcasm right now, Claire,” Jack says as they walk back to the office. It’s fair. Claire could stand to be a little kinder.

“Look, Jack,” Claire says as she takes her arm. “Don’t you think this is getting out of hand?” Jack stops walking in the middle of the sidewalk and turns to face her.

“Do you want to convict Dasso?” Jack asks.

“Of course I do.”

“Well I’m fresh out of ideas,” she says. “This is the only way I can see of doing it.”

Claire looks at her and sighs. Jack is right. Her argument against Kopell is sound. But she hates seeing Jack so distraught, so hurt. They haven’t had a moment to themselves since the arrest.

“Alright,” Claire says, takes Jack’s arm again, and walks them down the street.

“He’s a murderer,” Paul says. “He’s my client. I don’t judge him. I defend him. It’s what I do.”

“You don’t have to climb into bed with him,” says Jack. “That’s where you’re wrong. I have to get into his bed. I have to think like him. I have to attend his grandchildren’s christenings, I have to eat his mother’s cooking. It’s the only way I can defend him with any kind of passion. How can you not see that, Jackie?”

Claire can see Jack start to bristle at the nickname where she hadn’t before. It was like watching two angry dogs bark at each other.

“That’s your only agenda?” Jack says, disbelieving.

“Hell no,” says Paul. “I do it because I like it. I do it because it’s fun. I climbed macho mountain and it feels damn good.” Jack grips the table tightly. Claire is disgusted. Jack must be too. He really isn’t Jack’s type, after all.

“We’re offering you a way out,” Claire says. Paul looks at her like she’s nothing. Jack bites her cheek.

“Maybe you should hear him out, Paul,” Anna says.

“Absolutely not,” Paul says, stretching the first word out to five syllables. “Don’t you see, Anna? He called this meeting, that means his case is weak. This is a game of chicken. And you just blinked. See you at trial.”

Also, she can never be the worst parent. -Izzy has become the Chief Operating Officer for one Edward Teach, the head of Kraken Inc himself. What a f-ing achievement through hard f-ing work! -Ed, bored with being the Kraken, with being a corporate raider and destroying people's dreams, has become obsessed with a certain Gentleman Apothecary's self care soaps and lotions. -Nana wanted/wants/will want revenge. -Jim's journaled their revenge. So much revenge. Also, Olu was kind of cute. -Spanish Jackie has established her little empire of a dispensary, laundromat, and gas station in her home town - along with a very complicated love life while dealing with the eldritch horror in the woods + cloning cult. Look Spanish Jackie be a busy woman. -Olu has lost his home and drifted into working for Spanish Jackie and her absolutely mental favourite husband, Alfeo de la Vaca, while also not telling his family he's homeless. Also, Jim was very cute. -Wee John has lived through the troubles, working for the Irish mob in Boston, and a life on the run. Bonnetville on the horizon. -The Swede has stepped out of his fairytale childhood (which is to say horrifying in an eldritch way) to land a job working for Stede Bonnet. The Swede has found his soul, if only he can find his heart. -Pete survived childhood -- and a very strange drywall incident -- to land in Bonnetville with a whole head full of stories + his own personal Narrator. -Ivan wasn't sad that the company where he worked was taken over by Kraken. So many opportunities. -Kevin (Fang) was devistated that the company he helped found was taken over by Kraken, but he made choices and now he's stuck working at Kraken destroying other people's dreams. -Roach has traveled the highways in his roach coach and landed a job working for one Stede Bonnet as a personal chef. He has decided that Stede is Rouseau as f-, which was fine. If only he has taste. -Zheng has just started on the road to a mystery in nearby Bridge City involving a dead lawyer and a solar company.

It is in fact all related. Somewhat. They are all on their own adventures.

I. FAQ:

1. Will other egos/characters be in the story? - Right now we don’t plan on adding any other egos, be it Jack’s or Mark’s or anybody else’s. As for characters, they appear as we go.

2. What’s Marvin’s gender? - They are genderfluid, meaning their gender can change: male, female, both or neither. Usually, they don’t care what pronouns you address them [he/she/them] if they do feel like using a certain pronoun that day - they will politely ask for it.

3. What about time and place of the events? - Well, we didn’t want to limit ourselves to a certain country, but it’s a place in the northern hemisphere, with port, forest and river. The time is present or even slightly futuristic considering existence of BING, but some aesthetics can appear like from ’20 and ‘30.

4. Will Jack be in the story? - No. For the personal reason, we prefer not to include real people in this AU

5. Are there/Will there be any romantic or intimate relationships in the story? - As the story starts, Marvin, Anti and Jackie are in open poly-relationship, however, it’s not the main point of the story nor will be any romantic relationship. As for others... we will just have to see, no spoilers :)

6. Who is Jacques/Angus/Connor/Bing/Shawn? - Jacques is French artist who appeared in series like Passpartout - Angus comes from OLD series on Jack’s channel called: The Survival Hunter - Connor (The Announcer) is an ego whose voice appears in series like “Japan World Cup” or “Stories Untold”. Connor is a name I came up with - Bing (Bingsepticeye) is a fan character, that was created as Jack’s version of Mark’s Google (Before Mark’s Bing appeared) - Shawn Flynn is a character from BATIM, Jack did the voice for him in the game. (None of those characters has canon name /except for Shawn/ or design so all of them were designed by me.)

realizing I never talked on here about my mob boss au where everyone thinks Anti is running a gang but then it turns out JJ is the boss and Anti's his bodyguard/translator/guy who pretends to be in charge so he's the target instead of JJ. Marv is an informant, Henrik's their off-the-books medic, and Chase is the weapons expert for arms-dealing. Jackie is also a bodyguard for JJ, but he and Anti HATE EACH OTHER. they only get along because of their loyalty to JJ, who thinks it's funny to watch them restrain themselves from physically fighting about four times a day.

also, everybody calls JJ 'Little Brother,' including his enemies. if I wrote something about it, it would be about Dark's gang encroaching on JJ's territory for the first time, and the fallout when they realize who the real Little Brother is and abduct him... forcing Jackie and Anti to work together and protect each other NOOOOOO

anyway this is a mafia au. first of all, because i always wanted to write one, but second of all because this can have a funny origin.

it’s a drunken conversation, but jack and dave somehow come up with the convoluted idea that they could run the hell out of their own business. davey’s dealing pot on the side anyway, they could start from there and work their way up.

and crazily enough, they do. they build a mob empire, the underdog of the underground. indoctrinating friends from work, who have other friends and other friends who deal in everything from horse races to laundering skills. davey’s genius and jack’s knack for persuasion and a good fight climb them to the top of manhattan’s streets in goddamn no time.
