(2024-07-14 image ©munro magic) This is meall a bhuiridh and Munro in Scotland at a hight of 1108m and now the site of the highest mobile mast in the UK. The hill is just about the top of the Glencoe Ski Area and the mast situated at the top of the highest lift.

The new mast is operated by O2 and will give coverage over a signifiant area or hills and remote locations as well as a number of isolated cottages and farms.

Why this hill? Because the ski development climbs nearly to the top of the hill, and there is an electricity supply high up the hillside making it easier to site a mast here rather than other hills with no developments. The previous record was the masts at the top of the GlenShee development. Those that have climbed Cairnwell will see it is a 'mess' of all sorts of communications towers including a mmobile mast. But this is only 933m.

Where next Ben Nevis? Not likely as there is no electricity near to the summit. But there is electricity near to the top of Cairngorm, and there is already a powered weather station there, as well as other communication masts.. So could a mast be sited at the top of Cairgorm at 1245m. Practically yes - but the objections would be significant.
