MK356 1944 VS Spitfire IXc BBMF Wings & Wheels Dunsfold 25.08.18 by Phil Rawlings Via Flickr: Built at Castle Bromwich in early 1944 and delivered to the RCAF in March 1944 allocated to 443 Squadron/RCAF flying 60 sorties and damaged in combat 3 times. Damaged 13.06.44 and transferred to maintenance unit for repairs then designated an instructional airframe and issued serial 5690M in October 1945. At RAF Hawkinge, 1951-1961 displayed as gate guard (initially as 5690M, later as MK365 then to RAF Bicester in 1962, RAF Locking, 1966-1967 and RAF Henlow 1967-1969. Used in movie "Battle Of Briatin" in static scenes during 1968 and to the RAF Museum at RAF St. Athan on 18.08.69 through to 1997 being made airworthy there 1991-97 with a first post restoration flight on 07.11.97 using wings from SL674. Delivered to the BBMF 14.11.97.
