I know we make fun of the karate war bullshit that happens in this show a lot, but considering there were The Chicago Dojo Wars in the 70s where a real life martial arts instructor was arrested for attempted arson after trying to blow up a rival dojo with dynamite, I think maybe batshit drama is just more par for the course with this than with other hobbies

not to be sad on main but the scene in the locker room with all the kids chanting "miyagi-do" made me sob because all i could think about was what mr. miyagi would think, seeing all these students keeping his family's karate going. how proud he would be of daniel as a sensei. how amazed he would be at all their hard work. how honored he would be to see his traditions continued. and i cry even more because i imagine what pat morita would think, to see his beloved character live on for a new generation. i can't help but cry even as i write this. i wish he were here to see this yet i somehow think he already knows.

leave that boy alone!! do not drag him into all your drama again!! I agree Kenny loves karate and should work through his issues, but he can do so at literally any other dojo in the valley

i gotta say — my rewatch of poto (2004) involved massive amounts of cage references in a villain’s tragic backstory flashbacks with a reluctant enabler of bad behavior, a best friend who really wishes you wouldn’t trust that evil guy, the color red as symbolism for bloodshed being spilt, the color white as symbolism for purity, and… mirror breaking motifs? oh yeah, and a swordfight in blue lighting between the main villain and the protagonist’s old connection from their younger days, who will fight for their honor or whatever.

Logan is not what you would call a teacher. He doesn’t like people, he doesn’t like attention, and he’s a horrible role model. He drinks. He smokes. He swears.

And he fights.

Or- He did, he’s retired now. The cage isn’t an old man’s game, and he’s not as young as he used to be. He can still hold his own. He still trains, too, in the back room of his small house. Karate, mostly, but some judo, jiu jitsu, weapons, and Thai boxing– Okay, maybe he’s a bit of a nut about it. It helps keep his head on straight. … Straight enough. He’s a combat vet - as his dog tags will show - and he finds martial art gives him both an outlet and a form of meditation and mindfulness.

Given that he just started teaching history at the local high school, he sure as hell fuckin’ needs it
