Franziska x Miles
why u always sound so scared of commenting here lol? This is the Heterosexual Haven! Incest Inclusive! Miles x Mujeres Mode~
Ship It!!!!!!!!! :D
• What made you ship it?
Miles needs a girlfriend. Maya is already with Phoenix. Rise from the Ashes doesn't exist yet. You, new female character introduced related to the Von Karmas that apperantly has conections to him, you're perfect!
• What are your favorite things about the ship?
Basically they grew up togheter so there's a lot of knowing each other and spending time togheter, engaging in their favourite activity: discussing and debating! It is fun and enrichment for them and they get to pry themselves open with each argument and well, one thing leads to the other~~
Also THISSSS
SHE'S IN LOOOOVE!!!! The anime was soooo good for the Mileziska gang very pretty! So elegant!
• Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Shipping Miles and Franziska, objectively speaking, ISN'T incest. You can found family, adopted siblings, she calls him little brother all you want, by definition it ISN'T incest. But it could be a lot hotter if it was xd, we enjoy incest in this house hell yeah
Mileziska taste like: Meat a la Milanese. Breaded fried beef basically~. It is good and tasty meat, but its also crunchy and fried, can be eaten either hot or cold and its equally delicious and i reccomend you squeeze some lemon to it ;)

Did you like Miles/Franziska? 🤔 if not Nick/Miles
I'll do both!
Miles/Franziska (karmacest? hmm):
I really only ship them in the "trauma bonding in a desperate attempt to find love and comfort from someone other than their abuser" way, and then they grow up and Miles runs from Germany and the Von Karmas while Franziska desperately latches onto him in turn to try to keep some sort of normalcy even while struggling with how he's left her behind for a new life :)
Wrightworth:
Man you all know how I feel about them. They've bee married for 20 years. They're divorced. They've never even dated. They're the most painfully domestic couple you'll ever meet but also their lives are filled woth absurdity and drama and way too many hospital visits. They're talking about adopting a cat. At their wedding, Gumshoe admitted that it was the first time he ever realized that they were more than just good friends.

Love Fool
First posted on AO3.
Inspired by Gyakuten Kenji|Ace Attorney Investigations, after 1-5, One-shot.
The thirteenth time when Miles Edgeworth cast a glance towards Franziska von Karma, she finally could not stand it anymore. That conflicted expression of wanting to speak but holding back didn't suit him at all. It wasn't like him to be indecisive. Did he throw away all of her father's teachings?
"What's wrong?" She looked straight at him, subconsciously tightening the whip in her hand.
He opened his mouth, but didn't say anything. She continued to look at him and the raised whip was about to fall--
"Franziska-"
The sound of the whip falling was crisp. Somehow, from his indifferent expression without much change she actually read a hint of relief.
"Have you been deceived by someone?"
"What nonsense are you talking about, Miles Egdeworth?" She wasn't polite as she whipped him again. "Are you underestimating me?"
"I misspoke," he still didn't dodge. "Okay, I meant to ask if--"
"Have you been deceived by a bad guy?"
She was taken aback for a moment before realizing what he meant. Her face instantly turned red. Her hand had already started moving before her brain had completed its thoughts, but this gave her a gap to think of a counterattack.
"Excuse me, Miles Egdeworth," she switched back to her calm smile and gestured her index finger. "you haven't even had a girlfriend yourself, have you?"
"A love fool like you might as well worry about yourself first."
"Franziska, you're not even of legal age!"
"Fools can only make foolish statements. The legal age in Germany is eighteen. Case closed."
He couldn't say anything in response, but she didn't feel any sense of victory. In the end, this was just a stupid and insignificant matter that had nothing to do with the creed of the prosecutors, her goal, or his life. How could he have the leisure to waste her time and energy with such trivial matters?
However, he smiled, which made her even more annoyed. "That's...great." Although she lowered her voice more than usual, she could still hear herself clearly.
"Great for what? If you don't have anything else I'll go first, there's still a case to attend to."
"Hold it!"
I'm not a suspect who needs to continue giving testimony, she thought, but still didn't swing her whip. "You'll be punished if you continue making foolish statements, you know?" She whipped towards the ground. "What do you want, Miles Edgeworth?"
"You're single now, aren't you?"
"What, what does that have to do with anything? You're single too, aren't you?"
"I just wanted to confirm."
"Are you mocking me, Miles Edgeworth?" Franziska von Karma increased the strength of her whip swing, "Even if I'm not single, what does it have to do with you? Fool!"
"No, why would I..." he said, "At least I watched you grow up."
So he's trying to reminiscing with her, she thought. But their relationship should have ended a long time ago...from the moment the DL6 incident was brought to a close. More precisely it shouldn't have existed in the first place: she wasn't supposed to be his older sister - although the guy would surely retort that he was the older brother, but she was the one who bossed people around between the two of them - in any case things weren't supposed to be that way. "That's your reason?" An unfamiliar emotion came over her, "What a poor argument ......"
She sometimes wondered what he really thought of her. She could probably be considered a companion or a junior until the ugly, bloody truth was revealed, but after that she no longer wanted to think about it. The daughter of his father's murderer, an international prosecutor who had met in some of his cases ...... can these count as relationships?
She didn't know what he really thought of her. She didn't really want to know, nor did he really want to - would make such a statement was not expected by himself, he would not have been some vulgar person who liked gossip. Although he had been flirted with a few times, he had never taken those words to heart. There's nothing wrong with being single since it's just a way of life that suits him.
But things might be different for Franziska, he thought. While the improper relationship between the international prosecutor and the international police officer was certainly rumour, her authentic emotional state was what really needed to be figured out. She was only 19, she couldn't afford to have her promising career cut short by an unworthy relationship. Someone worthy of her would have to be at least a better prosecutor than him, although he hadn't seen one yet that fit that bill.
So he hesitated, searching his heart for the right words to use in his inquiry, and ended up saying something terrible. Franziska noticed his lapse, which made him even more nervous, and it was only when the familiar whip fell on his body that he relaxed a bit. Her expression gave the answer he expected, but he was careful to add additional wording.
Being blocked by her strong argument was a complete departure from his initial assumption, however. Her tongue was getting sharper, he thought with a sense of relief and some amusement. A love fool ...... what a sharp sarcasm. A nice counterattack, but he wasn't going to budge. She was only nineteen and hadn't been to a bar mitzvah yet.
But he forgot that she became a prosecutor in German. Funny enough, he also took his judicial exams abroad. She was no longer the little girl in the sleeveless blouse who hadn't gotten her badge yet. He had to admit that she was now a reliable adult ...... which is great.
Returning to the present, they both fell silent. He wanted to end this inexplicable conversation, but couldn't find the words. She hated it when he acted superior in front of her, and he couldn't have known better. "It's good that your career as a prosecutor will not be affected," is definitely enough to earn him a dozen lashes, and "Can you wait for me?" such dark and dirty thought can not be detected by her, even the slightest bit. She is only his junior. His former junior.
"Miles," she said suddenly, "how many hours of sleep did you get this week?"
"Why are you suddenly asking this?"
"It's true that the lack of sleep has caused your brain in lack of blood supply," she laughed, "It's so unlike you to speak so foolishly today."
"Carnegie's trial is tomorrow, yet you have the leisure to come to me to ask such insignificant trifles ...... Let me guess, you have heard the rumours made by the fools in the prosecutor's office, haven't you?"
"Well, um ......" he moved his index finger, still with his hands on his chest.
"Only fools would take that sort of foolish rumours to heart. I'm the heir to Karma-"
"Until the smuggling case is completely solved you will focus only on this, right?"
"Isn't that what things supposed to be?"
"Then I'll be looking forward to your results," he said, "and I won't concede defeat in the competition of pursuing the truth, Franziska."
All that answered him was the sound of the whip falling. He didn't know how she felt about him, nor did he really want to - and she did the same. He didn't know the whispered words to herself that she unintentionally divulged after she turned and walked out a few steps: please wait for me. Don't leave me again. You will not be allowed to leave me alone again, you will not be allowed to run away from me again. I will find out everything, and the moment the results are published -
You will never be able to refuse me again, Miles Edgeworth.

just watched your latest youtube video (the one on the aai collection) and i want to thank you for not assuming malice from the actions of the ace attorney wiki admin who refuses to let the relation between franziska and miles be listed as "siblings". I've seen so many people see that and jump to the worst possible conclusion that "this must be because they ship miles and franziska" and not the much more reasonable conclusion that theyre just sort of anal about the nuance of their relationship and what's explicitly canon
i... that is deranged. that is the most wild conclusion to jump to that i can think of.
the aa fandom's violent allergy to actually engaging with the text is... unlike everything i have ever seen. i used to understand being unhappy with canon, wanting to rewrite/fix/add to it, all the memes about "lol i made it better" "canon will be lovingly baked at 400 degrees until it is properly browned" etc but the aa fandom has turned me into an absolute canon-worshipper with how much they just... do not care to acknowledge canon at all, and get WEIRD when you are a person who does.
i don't understand why they get so uppity at the siblings thing. there are a million different ways you can interpret whatever they have going on, but all we know is:
miles studied under manfred von karma
franziska, who also studied under him, affectionately refers to miles as her little brother.
like that's literally it... that's all we have. we don't know if miles lived with them. we don't know if miles considers franziska to be his sister. he never calls her that, and often jumps through hoops to avoid calling her that. why is that? is it that he doesn't see her that way? that he believes his fondness for her is too deep, special, and nuanced to delegate to something simple like 'sister'? is he just being emotionally constipated, a thing we know he is often? meditate on it! why do people just lie, instead? why don't people want to have fun and analyze the relationship?
i don't think it is even "anal" to run the wiki that way. a fandom wiki, like a regular wiki, is supposed to be full of strictly canon information, not conjecture and fanon. if you want conjecture, then get on ao3 or open your word process and make some. but a wiki is meant to provide documented, sourced information, and you cannot say that miles edgeworth considers franziska his sister when he patently says nothing on the matter in canon.
turning that into "its because op ships them" is the most deluded form of thinking i can imagine, and it's so transparent--they're insecure about their headcanons or mad that they were misled by fanon, do not like concrete proof that they were misled, and so they try to paint an innocent person as secretly some sort of deviant or problematic to cast that shame elsewhere. typical 15 year old catholic twitter user behaviour, you meet one you meet em all.
even if they did ship mitsumei, like... who cares, genuinely. they're lines. they're made up. but that's not what's happening here, it's literally just a wiki runner who is running a wiki correctly, and the aa fandom historically HATES canon and facts so they're losing their shit.
one of the youtube videos i have on the backburner is "aa fandom misconceptions" where i'm just going to debunk a thousand of these stupid fucking things one by one. the more time passes the more anxious i get wanting to make it. maybe it's just me being a rules-obsessed autistic, but i cannot stand when people just lie about canon.

Love even unto its innermost parts
I consider myself a romanticist. It happened suddenly a few years back, when I found that this word fit what I consider to be important in fiction. If I just said this out of the blue one day however, people would probably get the wrong idea about me. I do have a general fondness for both ロマン and romance in fiction, and I also feel those two are connected while still being separate entities.
I've wanted to write about my stance on romance in fiction for a long time (since the Mitsumei post that's now uhhh two years ago apparently), and I did say in my Sakura no Toki post that I would expand on my concept of ロマン in a future post. While these topics are quite similar and I have no qualms about it myself, it still felt "wrong" to group them together without a further idea connecting them besides the label of romanticism. Until this March when I actually got that idea and right now when I finally decided to write this post.
This post will probably make even less sense than my previous ones since it is almost completely born from my personal views on abstract concepts, so don't feel bad if you don't understand.
(NOTE: Views expressed in this post do not necessarily reflect my view on relationships in real life. Also not a spoiler-free zone for anything.)
In my mind romanticism is たった一つの大切な想いを貫くこと.
(No the Gunslinger Girl song did not lead to this thought although I will link it here anyway because I love the manga which you should go read right now.)
youtube
To understand this we must first separate love projected from within the self and love projected towards the self.
Love projected from within the self is what you personally find important to yourself and ideals, convictions you wish to share and experience with others. It is what you like and what you consider crucial to understanding your personality and beliefs. It is important to realize that this is a form of love.
I guess this is more of a problem in recent years where media consumption as a set checklist with guidelines is more prevalent, but I believe that is an antithesis to the nature of love. This may seem like a given, but life is possible to live without having a solid idea of these things, giving birth to people who cannot use their own words to express their opinions. I believe being selfish is an important part of love as love cannot exist without two distinct entities whose emotions come within the self.
Love projected towards the self is a fictional work's backbone, or the thoughts that went into it during its creation. How this gets conveyed to the self varies depending on the medium but ambience is important in all of them. Ambience is felt from every corner of a work so the stronger the backbone is, the more it shows in multiple facets of the work (総合芸術). Of course, not everything has the luxury of having a singular vision so this concept is not necessarily tied to a work as an entirety; feeling love from singular part(s) is not any lesser.
The message a work conveys (if it exists), willingly or unwillingly is only one part of this love. I believe you can feel it in anything, from a character's spoken and unspoken words to intimate depictions of backgrounds. Personally, music is a big one for me and is the reason I am an Aquaplus fan now. It doesn't have to be straightforward either, if anything being drawn to things that appear contradictory is proof of ロマン in and of itself. The act of using your own experiences to process and accept two clashing senses within you is a sort of 原体験 of realizing the self and the world are separate entities that operate on their own merits which brings me to my main point.
The moment the loves within and without the self meet (貫く) is the moment the feeling of ロマン is born.
You could simply call this finding something the fits you or speaks out to you but this post is about love. The only love you are privy to the most intimate details of is the love that comes from within. This is because unless you can somehow mind link with other people you will never be able to fully understand what goes into their love, even if you are on the same wavelength. That is why we seek love to reach our innermost parts. This is true in real life too but that is outside the scope of this post.
Not everything in the world has the kind of love that resonates with you and sometimes it does not have love at all. That is why it is necessary to acknowledge these truths, to distinguish what does and does not fit you to have conviction in your own love.
Of course this is only true when the levels of love do not overpower each other. If the outward love is too strong, personal ideals overtake the work and color our perception of it to the point where it is no longer recognizable to others. In an internet example, I feel this is the case with people who take their headcanons too far and push them to the point of general acceptance, with some people not even realizing or refusing to realize that they are far beyond the context that the original work has presented. If the inward love is too strong, the work seeps into the psychology of the self to the point of lowering a person's ability to form their own thoughts on it. Another more personally aggravating internet example are those eroge reviews on Japanese Twitter that basically write the same points and have the same game quote peppered in. This is not to say these cannot exist (as much as I don't want them to), but they are simply not ロマン.
How does one go about in search of their ロマン then? As I said before, selfishness is an important element. Reading recommendations and reviews is valuable in gauging if you will enjoy something. However if that is all you rely on, it is easy to lose sight of your outward love. It is important to balance these with your ability to pick out things in the wild. After all, between ロマン discovered through others and ロマン discovered yourself the latter has more ロマン度. If you find it hard to broaden your horizons, seeing what your friends that have common interests and common reasons for liking those interests also like is a good start. The latter is especially important in the ロマン department as finding things that hit in that regard is harder than simply finding things you will enjoy.
Simply finding things to enjoy is also a skill one should hone. However, one must understand that something that does not match your love is not something to be shunned or frowned down upon. We are equipped to enjoy many things in life no matter how they relate to us. To that effect I do not associate romanticism with optimism. The act of believing in and finding love in the world is one of the most human actions one can take. That is why we feel such elation at the meeting point of loves. In that moment the beauty of the world enters our hearts we feel at one with something outside of the self and revel in the joys of communication. That is why I cannot stop my pursuit of ロマン.
たった一つの大切な想いを貫くこと is more straightforward in the romance department. As outlined in the ロマン section, romance also arises from two distinct entities whose emotions come within the self. That is why being able to see how both people come to hold romantic feelings and the moment those feelings become mutual feels victorious. Unless you are a devout romance hater or fan of a losing character in a romcom, seeing two characters get together is a cause of celebration.
And there's the rub: The outward trappings of romance are discussed much more than the intricacies of their feelings.
I can enjoy lighthearted will-they-or-won't-they, tension caused by unrequited love, and dramatic events fighting against the odds as much as the next guy but my eyes always remain on the prize: the actual feelings two people hold for each other.
Until recently I was vaguely in the camp that romances with obstacles in their path are the most rewarding at the end. It's a popular sentiment, so you can't go wrong with it right? It is quite sound as if the feelings in the relationship are not strong enough they won't make it to the end. But as I felt increasingly aloof with a lot of those stories I started to think that my true interests lied elsewhere.
The truth lies in たった一つの大切な想いを貫くこと. What causes people to develop feelings for another person? How do these feelings remain and grow stronger as opposed to fizzling out? How far are you willing to go for another person? How do these feelings interact with your own set of values, your own love to the world? Yes, true love is born when a character's love from the self and their love for another person harmonize, resulting in たった一つの大切な想いを貫く in their actions. That is the love I seek with my entire body.
Since there is no requirement to go this deep most of the time it is possible to be satisfied with much less. In some cases less can be more, and to reiterate I am not saying that only one kind of thing should exist. I simply wish for people to think more about the characters' feelings for each other when discussing fictional romance rather than on the playground level of who likes who.
Too often are romances lauded or condemned for reasons other than this. An all too familiar internet example is people throwing around certain parts of a relationship as problematic. Is it so fucked up to value a fictional relationship based on how the characters feel towards each other... But on the other hand you have people who value those certain parts above all else. I'm looking at you people who think incest routes in eroge are the best even if there is no other meat to the relationship regardless if they are blood-related or not. I guess if you're there for the outward trappings alone I can't blame you for getting exactly what you want but going around spouting about how it's a purer form of love is a completely different story. In eroge I feel surface level romance discussions are even worse because sex scenes can fool people into thinking something is deeper than it actually is.
As scenario writer Hozumi Kei wisely stated in a BugBug interview:
I have played Mashiro-iro Symphony and was impressed with how it put romance at the forefront of Hozumi Kei's routes, even if it wasn't exactly to my taste.
In the end I simply wish for people to embrace love more. Embracing your own love is knowing yourself as best as you can and aiming to find it in the world. Embracing love from the world is acknowledging that many different forms of love exist and there is always exciting new frontiers to be found out there. Embracing the nature of romance is understanding love's great capacity and the way it interacts with the self.
Romanticism is realizing love is a terrifying force, and it is up to the self to give it context in our everyday lives.
ロマンチストなので。
~Bonus Corner~
What are some works I feel exemplify the things I talk about in this post?
I will say everything mentioned in the Sakura no Toki post counts and with the new knowledge in this post let us reexamine this equation:
時間経過(=連続性があること) + ロマン = 刻
Why do I feel ロマン from Sakutoki? Because the love of art is etched into every facet of this work. Through the music, backgrounds, characters, and the various art pieces in the game, art is attacked and affirmed from different angles all in service of the overflowing pathos associated with both creation and consumption. In this regard I like Toki more than Uta.
youtube
On a pure ロマン front I consider the Tears to Tiara series to be the pinnacle of it, as evidenced by the fact I made this blog at first to post about it. Marui Takeshi's other works also excel at the element of ロマン as well as Shumon Yuu in Kitto, Sumiwataru Asairo Yori mo,. Years back I changed my VNDB comment for that game to "わかってるなぁ" without really knowing why but the mystery is now solved. I'll get around to his other games someday!!
In the romance department, you know me, I will say Mitsumei. Shipping is a bit more complicated than what I wrote above since depending on how much is actually in the original work there is a lot more imagination required. But the fact that Edgeworth and Franziska have such a relationship that is barely touched upon in official media have led to me thinking about it more than most of the naysayers so I will say what I most want to see of them in official media is them having a heart to heart conversation to further my thoughts. 支離滅裂な思考・発言
Back to the topic at hand I greatly enjoyed ISLAND as a romantic work which really does seem like a rarity amongst the debates I've seen about the science fiction parts of the game. I have wrote about Hakuchuumu no Aojashin before and that is probably the stronger recommendation between the two here. Astraythem was a surprise for me last year in how the time travel plot elevates the themes of love presented in the game and not just for the main relationship. For anime Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: First Kiss wa Owaranai, the latest installment of the series is good for its deliberation of romantic feelings to an extent not seen in most other media. It was kind of funny seeing reactions to it praising that aspect as a novelty when I think about it every day with Mitsumei but that's another story. Need season 4...
I must include a special shout out in this post to Eris from Princess Connect! Re:Dive who kind of destroyed my brain during the game's 6th anniversary event earlier this year.
Eris (CV: Kuwashima Houko) is functionally a clone/copy of one of the main characters Yui (CV: Taneda Risa) who after the events of the previous game (the Ameba soshage) was forced to watch the protagonist loop while stuck in the VR game world countless times with the reset occurring when either the protagonist or Yui died. Of course Yui and by extension Eris hold romantic feelings for the protagonist so watching so many loops gradually destroyed her sanity levels to dust to the point where the only thing she desires is a world with just her and the protagonist. Honestly during this part of the story in the game, I had a passing interest in her but not much in the grand scheme of things since that part felt like a slog to get through while it was updating. In the end Eris disappears after a confrontation between her and Yui.
youtube
This event brings proper closure to that plotline while also further establishing Yui and Eris's feelings for the protagonist. This event blew me away because Priconne is a mobile game where a lot of the characters have romantic feelings for the protagonist. But these always felt more like trappings due to being the kind of game where you raise your bond levels with girls like some kind of romance game. Of course it is not a romance game and there are no big depictions (not yet...) except for Yui and that is mainly one-sided since the protagonist is not forward at all in the love department. Even then I felt that Yui's feelings were more of a plot device as they caused Re:Dive to happen and she is too shy to do anything most of the time. That's why seeing Yui and Eris going at each other like a catfight in this event felt like a light from the heavens. The two finally felt like realized characters with romantic feelings instead of two bishoujo with the word "love" stuck to them. Kuwashima Houko's ability to express Eris's pain, longing, bitterness, and faint hope was stunning. You really feel that the weight of her feelings has engulfed her to the point of no return and the event works on processing them in a world where she was not given the mercy of complete death. God please let Eris win. Eris reappeared in the main story in this month's update let's fucking gooooooo.
Lastly, the manga panel from the header image of this post is 恋は忍耐 which I found completely by chance when I saw it had an Ikuhara Kunihiko (Mawaru Penguindrum director) recommendation on the obi. After reading the first chapter online and impulsively buying the first volume on Bookwalker I can understand why. If I hadn't seen that panel I don't know if I would have had the energy to write this post so quickly. Looking forward to the next volumes!

#sorry Im just. mad#theres a lot of proship in more niche parts of this fandom and I HATE IT#like I get that you enjoy magshoe or other ships with iffy age gaps but#DATING YOUR SISTERS FATHER/YOUR BOSS??#YOUR ADOPTED SISTER THAT YOUVE KNOWN SINCE YOU WERE 9????#technically yes. the key word is adopted.#but thats not any different yk…#plus there’s a big imbalance between the pair thats always a pattern with proshippers#like stop that shit#you know damn well its not always about them being adults#‘theyre 2 consenting adults!’ you know damn well you would NOT willingly date someone you knew as a kid/had some power over you..#idc if theyre both consenting. one might be barely 18 and the other is almost 30 or 30+#wrong as fuck for that#stop normalizing that weird shit#you do not know what the fuck youre talking about#ace attorney#sometimes I hate this fandom

i know you'll proudly sacrifice yourself on the KayWorth hill (and please keep doing the good work o7), but i also wonder what you think of MitsuMei and GouMitsu (Manfred and Miles)
and since the two got mentioned, also Karmacest
More Kayworth will be on the way hell yea Uw0
The way this is phrased makes me think that this is more of my explained opinion rather than part of the ship ask game. I may do the meme eventually, I still kinda need to figure out their food analogy, I do know that GouMitsu is rare steak so MitsuMei and GoMei are going to be meat based as well; this post brings some good ideas about MitsuMei and confirms that indeed Kayworth is a classic spaghetti, western noodles and such. Also kinda answered this before but it's in spanish so xd, here's my thoughts on shipping within the fucked up von karma family uwu:
Franziska is a perfectly good girlfriend option for Miles, they grew up togheter so they know each other very very well, which can crack the ice in this tsundere x tsundere ship x3. I like it, have thought about it during JFA and T&T, it is very cool and epic, still a bit cold for my tastes but I can enjoy it very much ;3
I definitely can enjoy such grooming and weird ways of understanding love that come from shipping Manfred with either Miles or Franziska. I like the darkness of GouMitsu, with Miles doing everything he can to please Manfred (with various degrees of success) and we can even add a bit of culture shock like yeah sure this is totally normal German behavoir, what could he know? but GouMei UFF I'm thinking they could be happier with each other so I'm putting all my coins on this one uwu, very in sync very alike thats the good stuff~~!
Now this begs the question of what if we ship all three togheter? Well, that could be a very funny, conflicting and very entertaining watch, even if not that happy in the end lol. Eh whatever, add the rest of the Von Karmas there too, Miles with the Okaasan or Oneesan can be pretty cute too, ever thought about that~~?

The Blazing Summer Sun and The Autumn Frost
First posted on AO3.
Inspired by Gyakuten Kenji II|Ace Attorney Investigations II. To be precise, 2-4. One-shot, only Franziska(Mei)'s perspective is included.
The moment Miles Edgeworth put that badge on the table she went absent-minded, which was rare for her. Still holding the whip in her hand, she was ready to strike, but the first thought that popped into her head made her feel like out of place: he is not the blazing sun anymore. Not the blazing sun, but the autumn frost.
The summer sun shines brightly and attracts everyone's attention, while the autumn frost is cold and keeps others at a distance. She tried to suppress the inexplicable feeling, but the flames of anger and disappointment had driven her to question him: "Are you going to ... run away from me?"
"Are you ... going to leave me again? There's no way, no way I'm going to let that happen!"
She glared at him with her own fiercest look, but his still calm eyes had given his answer wordlessly. She clutched the whip tighter uneasily, almost wanting to escape the unshakable confession he gave, but her feet took root and didn't move halfway, and only when Kay Faraday and he ran out of the conference room, one after another, did her mind return.
She found the fact ridiculous, that she was the only Karma prosecutor left. Whether it was her father who committed murder or Miles Edgeworth who voluntarily gave up his position, both of them always kept decisions to themsleves. Her father caught himself in his own trap back then, but what about him, what's this play about? She didn't know, and that's what annoyed her the most. Where did it go wrong?
She knew it wasn't his fault, his ability as a prosecutor was unquestionable, it was just that the fools of the Prosecutorial Investigation Committee wanted to go after him; he trusted Kay Faraday and she had no objection to that; he didn't deliberately hide anything from her ...
But she didn't want to accept that ending, which meant they were no longer the same kind. The past of being his elder sister - in his words, "senior and junior" - seemed to have left them as well as the badge that had been abandoned. What she felt beside him just now was not the light and heat of the blazing sun, but the coldness and detachment of autumn frost. She totally agrees that the truth was the most important and only thing worth pursuing, but that was no reason for him to abandon his path as a prosecutor, at least she would never agree.
The only thing that reassured her a little was that his mind hadn't fallen into a crack-up, and his brain was spinning as fast as usual. Mr.Shields, who always seemed too playful to be a defense attorney, must have noticed this as well, and the scene of the son taking over his father's job will probably take place very soon. Maybe she could fight him again in court in the future, which was worth looking forward to... him having his own lawyer's badge instead of borrowing that spiky-hair-guy's. Everything would be perfect then, there could be no more legitimate ending except this one. But NO.
She didn't actually want to contact him again. He was a traitor, she thought, a loser. He'd lost to her, completely, but she couldn't feel happy about it at all. These heavy and redundant feelings would only interfere with her work in the near future, so she gave his former subordinate a good whip before returning to work.
After investigation she hurried to the conference room with the badge in her pocket shifting with every movement. Wait for me, Miles Edgeworth, you wait for me! This final key to the truth will be handed over to you by me--
"Why didn't you say so earlier!" She exclaimed, squeezing the whip tightly in annoyance, but finally managed to curb the urge to smack it again. By this time she also calmed down: there was still one more piece of evidence, and the case was not yet over. The truth was still to be revealed, and the next battle belonged to him, the one he had traded for that badge, the final battle.
He remained calm and composed, not much different from the one she knew from the prosecution table, as if he was still the blazing sun ... that had burned her so many times with his overpowering light and heat.
She turned her head to look at the delicate and fragile Kay Faraday who had lost her memory. The girl's eyes were full of fear and sadness, making her heart ache, but she knew very well that she could not help. She wanted to tell her to trust him, but couldn't even open her mouth; she realized that she was as frightened and sad as she was. The difference was that she remembered the bonds they had shared, while the young girl had lost the memories she could rely on. They were not worried about the same thing either, as she was sure that Miles Edgeworth would get a not-guilty verdict for Kay Faraday, but what about after that? She didn't want to think about what would happen next. She would still be an international prosecutor, busy pursuing a smuggling group, while he would be free, away from trouble, unless he gets caught up again in or pursue some cases on his own, or plans to change careers soon. The sunflower represents freedom and justice, and although these doesn't sound like his style, he looked quite fitting the last time he wore it.
She couldn't help but move her index finger as she watched him sink into thought, and seeing him tilt his body slightly backwards made her feel a bit better. He's not like autumn frost, she thought, since he didn't refuse her help. So listen carefully to these words, Miles Edgeworth.
He smiled smugly. "Franziska ... aren't you helping me." It wasn't a question, but a statement of certainty. He always knew the most effective way of enraging her, she thought.
"Like I said, it's to help Kay Faraday... not for you." She tugged at her sleeves out of habit and didn't say anything more. She wouldn't say the same thing again; he'd better think it over before speaking.
As expected, he didn't disappoint. His brilliant (yet can barely be called brilliant) reasoning took less time than she expected, which of course had a lot to do with Judge Courtney's help. With the real culprit caught and Kay Faraday's memory restored, the only one that still needs time to digest is the teenage prosecutor who is always just hilarious. But she didn't have more time for being sentimental or letting out sighs, she was not as free as he was. He was no longer the blazing sun, but she had the blazing sun and the autumn frost on her badge. They were already two unrelated people on opposite sides of the road, and from now on their relationship will gradually fade and fade until it completely dissipate.
She did not say goodbye to him, just as he did nine years ago when he returned to Japan after passing the judicial examination. The Shusoretsujitsu badge (with blazing summer sun and autumn frost on it) was somehow misplaced in the pocket where she usually kept her phone. When she picked up the phone, she took it out and rubbed it in her palm, but didn't put it back immediately.
"Then I'll wait and see." She gave a very light and shallow smile after a long mutual silence, and then hung up without a moment's hesitation. It no longer mattered whether he was still the blazing sun she knew or not, for a new round of competition to find the truth between them was about to begin. Their paths will still overlap, and she has the upper hand.
