Jacob yawned rubbing his face with his arm, as he stocked a tower of tissue paper. As per his boss’s orders, while he went on a 'break' with Mindy the check-out clerk. Jacob hated his stupid after-school job but he didn't really have a choice. he needed the money and there was no way his dad could give him the kind of cash he needed to have a life. That and it got him out of the house for a few hours.

"Whatcha doing?" Y/n smiled as she approached, as usual in her boots, jeans and little top with her bright yellow uniform vest over it. And her hair in a bun. Y/n attended a different high school, but Jacob still got to see her whenever he was here. The two had a very close bond with one another.

Jacob smiled at the sight of her, his dark mood being quickly lifted by her cheerfulness. "What's it look like? Stocking" he replied rolling his eyes

"oooohhh somebody's cranky."

"I'm not cranky" he protested

"I'm tired. I got no sleep last night"

"ohh noo! You poor baby." She cooed checking they were out of the camera view before wrapping her arms around his back,

Jacob blushed at the contact, his tiredness causing him to immediately lean into her touch for support. "Hey… I am not a baby" he protested weakly,

"You’re my baby." She whispered,

his blush darkened at that. he was about to protest again but stopped. instead, he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer as he leaned on her more. she felt comfortable. warm. safe from the world to him.

"what's the troubles Jake? Tell me.."

he was silent for a moment, just taking in the comfort of her embrace. it took a good minute before he spoke up, "just…tired… Dad's started bugging me about college."

"ooooh college. Gonna bankrupt your butt for some paperwork."

he rolled his eyes, "yeah… that about sums it up… he keeps going on about how I need to get my life together"

"… Your shits more together than his is."

he chuckled at that, "Yeah… I guess so… its not exactly like I don't have my crap together… I'm working. I'm getting good grades… but it's still not good enough for him"

"he's a dick." She says "Do you wanna go to college?"

he shrugs, "not really… but that's not an option. apparently I have to… according to my dad"

"you're an adult. If you don't wanna go. Don't go. But if you do wanna go and learn stuff then go. Get out of goddamn Florida and go on an adventure!"

he chuckled again at her enthusiasm, it was one of the things he loved about her. She was always so energetic and cheerful, she always had that 'go getter' attitude that he somewhat lacked. he was more like a cat. lazy, content to just stay in bed for days, but at the same time he was loyal and cuddly, and maybe just a little bit clingy, "Yeah… suppose I could do that…"

"You can always come with me?"

he raised an eyebrow curiously, "And where are you going?"

"adventure." She giggled "I did everything my dad asked so as a graduation present I got the travel photography contract for his magazine. He's bought me a VW and I'm get to drive around the country taking cute pictures." She explained.

Jacob's eyes widened, surprise, and a little bit of excitement in his expression. he knew about her love of photography, and that she was working hard towards that, but didn't realise it was actually happening. he was honestly super happy for her, and proud that she got that chance "That's… that's amazing y/n. I'm really happy for you" he smiled. he couldn't bring himself to feel anything but happiness. sure, he was probably gonna miss her like hell, but she so clearly deserved this…

"you're always welcome to come with me. Two cameras are better than one. Or even just as my copywriter. Or driver. Or just snuggle bug."

he almost immediately wanted to say yes to that. the thought of just getting to travel with her. just the two of them. it was an incredibly tempting offer. "What's the catch?"

"… You and me in an old VW camper for… At least the next year."

Jacob hummed thoughtfully. "Just us… alone… in a van for an entire year… no one else. just us” his mind began to drift towards some not so innocent thoughts very quickly,

"mhm." She nodded

"That sounds… very tempting" he paused for a moment, looking around quickly to make sure they were still not scene, before he slowly leaned in a bit closer, a sly smile pulling at his lips "And I suppose we'd be sharing a bed in this van yeah?"

"mhm." She nodded

he smirked a little, a mischievous look in his eye, his mind now completely focused and settled on this new idea. The more he thought about it, the more appealing it was becoming to him. just going on the road, travelling around the country, with his best friend. they could go anywhere, and do anything… what could possibly go wrong . "And who says one year is gonna be enough to get all this traveling done. We could be doing this for years…"

"year of travelling and then we come back to Florida, and get the new list of places."

he hummed thoughtfully."And where exactly are you gonna be getting the money to keep us fed and the van gassed up for this trip of yours?"

"I send photos dad sends money."

"Sounds like you've thought this through pretty well" he admitted, looking up at her with an admiring look in his eyes

"Jake I've been thinking about this since I was twelve."

he chuckled again, reaching to give her a playful nudge "I can tell…" he paused for a moment before a small smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth "So you wanna go on a road trip… alone… in a camper van… for possibly several years… sounds like the perfect opportunity for something from some kinda cheesy romance movie"

"yeah!"

he rolled his eyes, chuckling again. damn it, why was she so damn adorable when she got excited like that. "And here I thought you were supposed to be the responsible one…"

"I am responsible. I have plans. A job lined up and enough savings to reasonably get me through an apocalypse."

"Yeah? Am I gonna be with you in this apocalypse?"

“Of course! I need my snuggle bug with me,”

“Awww… I need you with me too y/n.” He cooed, “So? Can I come?”

“Yes! Of course, you can!” she jumped excitedly,
