Mission Control: The Pulltops' Cosmic Call to Calm The Pulltops just cannot disappoint with their ability to create good, memorable songs and this is evident in “Mission Control. ”It is their fifth record for this year, after the EP Sight Lines and three individual singles, and it captures exactly the sort of music they are known for: classic, alternative, indie, and pop rock. It is crucial to highlight that “Mission Control” is quite memorable in vocal harmonies, which feature a vast variety of pitch – bass, middle, and treble. This is a chorale type of song with good backup and sing-along vocals that adds another dimension to the song. The rhythm and lead guitars are well integrated and produce a full sound, with interesting riffs and chords supported by elaborate leads and harmonies. Supported by the steady rhythm section comprising of warm bass lines and strong drumming the track has a sound foundation and groove. Synths and keys layer and enhance the song to turn “Mission Control” into a multi-dimensional rock treasure. In terms of topic, the song is a mix of hope, reflection, and desire for consistency, making for an engaging narrative. In “Mission Control,” The Pulltops demonstrate beyond a shadow of a doubt that their music is other-worldly. Listen to Mission Control https://open.spotify.com/track/4r3APtLe2QKfWXFPK0yNQN Follow The Pulltops on Facebook Twitter Spotify Soundcloud Bandcamp Youtube Instagram What is your stage name The Pulltops Is there a story behind your stage name? We were about to play our first show, and we didn't have a name. So we came up with one as fast as we could out of necessity. lol The Pulltops is a throw-back to the old soda cans from the 70's that had the tab you would pull off, instead of the tabs they have now. We wanted something with a retro vibe to it. Where do you find inspiration? We're huge music fans, so we find a lot of inspiration in listening to music. But also sounds in general are inspiring. A new guitar effect, or a synth patch, maybe a new drum sound. Those kinds of things always give you new ideas. What was the role of music in the early years of your life? Lots of listening to music at an early age. I had an older brother that had a great record collection I could listen too, and swipe a records from. But there was also music in school, the school band, etc. I also learned as many songs as I could on guitar from the radio. Are you from a musical or artistic family? Actually, not at all. My sister plays piano, and still does. But my parents never played anything, and neither did my brother. So I have no idea where my sister and I got it from! Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry? I was inspired a lot by my guitar heroes, David Gilmour, Eddie Van Halen, Brian May, etc. But also by the fact that music is such a big part of who I am, and I want to always be surrounded by it, that it just made sense to be part of the industry. How did you learn to sing/write/to play? Songwriting early on started with learning how to play other peoples songs. You get a good sense of song structure, lyric writing, and story telling, from analyzing songs. And then there is a lot of trial and error. Writing a lot of bad songs! As far as playing, I did have some formal training. Piano was first, and then some band instruments in school. Guitar was a mixture of taking lessons, but also learning a lot on my own, just trying to figure things out by ear. What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform? I saw Boston at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Wisconsin years ago. I am a big classic rock fan, so there have been a lot of classic rock concerts over the years. But I do remember just being blown away by the shear volume of that first concert. Feeling the kick drum at that volume for the first time was impressive. How could you describe your music? There are a lot of influences. So even though we stick to the rock, or the alternative lane, there are a lot of other styles that work their way into what we do.
So one song might lean a little more towards 80's synth, but the next might have more of a country influence. It's nothing really planned. It just comes from listening to so much eclectic music growing up. Describe your creative process. The music always comes first. Some kind of riff, or drum pattern, or synth or piano chord. Something that sets the mood or gives off some kind of emotion. Once you can lock into a feeling, you get inspired and build from there. [caption id="attachment_56617" align="alignnone" width="2000"] Something that sets the mood or gives off some kind of emotion.[/caption] What is your main inspiration? Guitar is my main instrument, so there is a lot of inspiration that comes from noodling around and coming up with riffs or ideas. I'm also a night person. I stay up late and write a lot after every else has gone to bed. Something about the night has always been inspiring, the lighting of it all, the mood at night. What musician do you admire most and why? I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan. There were a lot of strong personalities in that band, and the music is very non-commercial, which is odd since they are a massive commercial success. But hardly any of their songs follow a regular song structure. Most don't even have a chorus! They didn't follow any rules. Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career? It's always evolving. It's hard to settle firmly into one way of doing things when there are so many great styles of music out there. Who do you see as your main competitor? I've never viewed any artists as a competitor. Everyone has their own style, and it's all so subjective. Most of it is inspiring more than anything. Hopefully AI doesn't become one. I'd like to see it become just another tool and not a replacement. I'm sure that will be the case. What are your interests outside of music? I love dogs. We have 3 border collies right now. We've fostered dogs in the past, and we would like to do that again when we have more room in the house. If it wasn't a music career, what would you be doing? I was into computers more when I was younger. I still am when it comes to music creation. But if it wasn't music, I would probably find something else creative to do on a computer. What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music? Lack of time. That's the biggest problem with anything. There is a finite amount of time. So you will never get everything done that you want to while you are here. That sounds so bleak, but it's true! lol If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be? I'd love to spend more time creating music. It's a business, so you need to do the business things, promotion, etc. Sure, you could just create music for yourself, but that wouldn't be the music industry then, would it? https://open.spotify.com/artist/1bqalaTP6ItTbf8L0BBcbU Why did you choose this as the title of this project? "Mission Control" came up early on lyrically, and the song was inspired by that phrase, and the idea of calling out for help. It was a nice metaphor for the feeling we were going for. What are your plans for the coming months? We have a lot of songs in the works. We have list of what we want to finish first, and we're going to keep working through the list until we run out of songs. And hopefully we don't run out! Do you have any artistic collaboration plans We do have a lot of friends we want to work with. But that might night end up under The Pulltops umbrella. What message would you like to give to your fans Life is full of a lot of struggles. A lot of what we write about is dealing with struggles on a personal level. We try to be encouraging, for others, and for ourselves. Just know that we are all going through this together. Hopefully the songs can help guide you through it all.

It's been a while since I put together Part 1 of my GO fanfic recs. Having read a ton more since then, I figured it was time for another list.
In no particular order:
1. 'On Espionage and Prophecy (or How to Accidentally, but Wholly, Fall in Love With a Soho Bookseller)' by RockSaltAndRoll (Explicit)
This fic takes place in 1941 with MI5Agent!Crowley and bookseller!Aziraphale. Aziraphale is first recruited by, who he thinks, is an MI5 but turns out not to be. Crowley, an actual MI5 Agent then recruits him to "double cross the double-crosser". Lots of pining and badassery (from both sides) ensue in this one!
2. 'Ricochet' by NaroMoreau (Explicit)
I'm a sucker for anything written by Naro but 'Ricochet' has become one of my favourite fics of theirs. Crowley is missing his angel after S2 and ends up summoning another version of Aziraphale. So, we get 1 Crowley, 2 Aziraphale's. The best mix. The writing in this is *chef kiss*. How Naro writes Crowley's pain and the characterizations of the 2 separate Aziraphale's -- just gorgeous.
3. ‘Terminus’ by BraveLight (Teen & Up Audiences)
I had no idea how much I needed an Astronaut!Aziraphale and MissionController!Crowley AU in my life until I read this fic. They have to team up to get Aziraphale home, but there’s way more to the mission than meets the eye. The twists and turns had me clicking 'next chapter' instantly. And the way Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship is written is so gentle and romantic—it’s perfect.
4. "Villainous" by IneffablePenguin (Explicit)
This is THE fairy tale AU you need to read! Crowley (Crow) is a sorcerer, and Aziraphale (Azra) is a prince—this fic honestly feels like it belongs on a best-seller list. IneffablePenguin has a real gift for painting vivid scenes that are so easy to picture. And those final chapters? They totally got me. I couldn't put this fic down.
5. "Cilice It To Say" by izzyspussy (Explicit)
Ho boy. This will be a fic I'll think about often. It's up there with the one I mention next. It's not as explicit as some of the other I've read but jesus christ. As it says on the tin: Crowley has a kink - The kink is Aziraphale. This is big on divinity kink, if that's not your jam, you may not like this one.
6. "Tether" by Ginger_Cat (Explicit)
It's coming up on a year of reading this fic and I think about Chapter 6 constantly. I don't want to spoil it but let me tell you, it's worth it. Aziraphale, now Supreme Archangel, keeps getting summoned back to Earth by Crowley but they don't know why.
7. "Intermezzo" by FeralTuxedo (Explicit)
Aziraphale is a music critic who, back in the day, tanked Crowley’s classical music career with a harsh review of his debut opera. If my fic recs haven’t given it away yet, I’m all about that bickerflirting, and this fic provides. It's also by FeralTuxedo. Anything written by them is 10/10.
WIP'S
8. “Reclaimed” by gallifreyshawkeye (Mature):
Are you in the mood for some Crowley Whump? If so, this fic DELIVERS. Gallifreyshawkeye knows how to paint a very vivid image of injury, so do mind the tags. This takes place 4 years after S2 and Crowley gets dragged down to hell by Satan in front of Aziraphale. It's honestly one of my favourite WIP's at the moment. I am on the edge of my seat whenever a new chapter comes out.
9. "Wavelengths & Frequencies" by imposterssyndrome, shades_of_eccles_cakes (Explicit)
Who doesn't love an enemies to friends to lovers story? While this fic only has 3 chapters so far, I am hooked. But hey, you give me a fic with Crowley and Aziraphale as radio hosts, I am there! I'm so excited to see how this develops and to see more of our 2 idiots going at each other.
10. "Stroke Play" by moonyinpisces (Explicit)
Moony knows how to write pining and I am here for it. In this AU, Crowley competes in beach volleyball, while Aziraphale takes on the golf course at the 2024 Olympics. They're both so down bad for each other but no one communicates. I love it!
Got any good fic recs? Send them my way :) Sharing is caring.

jest + enzyme, using mount(), document.getElementById() returns null on component which appear after _method call
I faced a problem with my jest+enzyme mount() testing. I am testing a function, which switches displaying components.
Switch between components: when state.infoDisplayContent = 'mission' a missionControl component is mounted, when state.infoDisplayContent = 'profile' - other component steps in:
_modifyAgentStatus () { const { currentAgentProfile, agentsDatabase } = this.state; const agentToMod = currentAgentProfile; if (agentToMod.status === 'Free') { this.setState({ infoDisplayContent: 'mission' }); agentToMod.status = 'Waiting'; } else if (agentToMod.status === 'Waiting') { const locationSelect = document.getElementById('missionLocationSelect'); agentToMod.location = locationSelect[locationSelect.selectedIndex].innerText; agentToMod.status = 'On Mission'; this.setState({ infoDisplayContent: 'profile' }); }}
When I trigger this function everything looks Ok, this test runs well and test successfully pass with required component:
import React from 'react';import { mount } from 'enzyme';import App from '../containers/App';const result = mount( <App />)test('change mission controls', () => { expect(result.state().currentAgentProfile.status).toBe('Free'); result.find('#statusController').simulate('click'); expect(result.find('#missionControls')).toHaveLength(1); expect(result.find('#missionLocationSelect')).toHaveLength(1); expect(result.state().currentAgentProfile.status).toBe('Waiting');});But when I simulate onClick two times: test('change mission controls', () => { expect(result.state().currentAgentProfile.status).toBe('Free'); result.find('#statusController').simulate('click'); expect(result.find('#missionControls')).toHaveLength(1); expect(result.find('#missionLocationSelect')).toHaveLength(1); expect(result.state().currentAgentProfile.status).toBe('Waiting'); result.find('#statusController').simulate('click'); expect(result.state().currentAgentProfile.status).toBe('On Mission');});
I get this assert:
TypeError: Cannot read property 'selectedIndex' of null at App._modifyAgentStatus (development/containers/App/index.js:251:68) at Object.invokeGuardedCallback [as invokeGuardedCallbackWithCatch] (node_modules/react-dom/lib/ReactErrorUtils.js:26:5) at executeDispatch (node_modules/react-dom/lib/EventPluginUtils.js:83:21) at Object.executeDispatchesInOrder (node_modules/react-dom/lib/EventPluginUtils.js:108:5) at executeDispatchesAndRelease (node_modules/react-dom/lib/EventPluginHub.js:43:22) at executeDispatchesAndReleaseSimulated (node_modules/react-dom/lib/EventPluginHub.js:51:10) at forEachAccumulated (node_modules/react-dom/lib/forEachAccumulated.js:26:8) at Object.processEventQueue (node_modules/react-dom/lib/EventPluginHub.js:255:7) at node_modules/react-dom/lib/ReactTestUtils.js:350:22 at ReactDefaultBatchingStrategyTransaction.perform (node_modules/react-dom/lib/Transaction.js:140:20) at Object.batchedUpdates (node_modules/react-dom/lib/ReactDefaultBatchingStrategy.js:62:26) at Object.batchedUpdates (node_modules/react-dom/lib/ReactUpdates.js:97:27) at node_modules/react-dom/lib/ReactTestUtils.js:348:18 at ReactWrapper.<anonymous> (node_modules/enzyme/build/ReactWrapper.js:776:11) at ReactWrapper.single (node_modules/enzyme/build/ReactWrapper.js:1421:25) at ReactWrapper.simulate (node_modules/enzyme/build/ReactWrapper.js:769:14) at Object.<anonymous> (development/tests/AgentProfile.test.js:26:38) at process._tickCallback (internal/process/next_tick.js:109:7)
It is obvious that:
document.getElementById('missionLocationSelect');
return null, but I can not get why. Element passes tests, as I mention.
expect(result.find('#missionLocationSelect')).toHaveLength(1);
But it could not be captured with document.getElementById().
Please, help me to fix this problem and run tests.

5 Myths About Becoming a Flight Director
Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to become a NASA Flight Director?
They are historically well known for making difficult calls and guiding the crew through "Houston, we've had a problem" situations, but in all spaceflight operations, they are ultimately responsible for the success of the mission.
We're looking for a new class of Flight Directors to join our team, and there are a few things to know.
Here are a few myths about becoming a Flight Director:
MYTH: You have to have already been a flight controller in Mission Control at NASA to become a flight director.
FACT: Although many flight directors have previously been NASA flight controllers, that is not a prerequisite to apply. The necessary experience could come from the military, other spaceflight organizations or areas that operate in similar high-stakes conditions.
MYTH: You have to already have a special spaceship flying license to apply.
FACT: The only place to get certified is on the job at NASA. Once chosen, the new flight directors will receive training on flight control and vehicle systems, as well as operational leadership and risk management.
MYTH: All flight directors have advanced degrees like, a PhD.
FACT: While a Bachelor's degree in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics from an accredited university is necessary, an advanced degree is not required to become a flight director.
MYTH: Flight directors are required to have experience in the space industry.
FACT: While you need at least three years of related, progressively responsible professional experience to apply, it can come from a variety of industries as long as it represents time-critical decision-making experience in high-stress, high-risk environments.
MYTH: Only astronauts become flight directors and vice versa.
FACT: To date, only one astronaut, T.J. Creamer, has become a flight director, and no flight directors have become astronauts. However, members of the flight controller teams have become astronauts. The "capsule communicator," or CAPCOM, role in Mission Control is more often filled by astronauts because the CAPCOM is the one responsible for relaying the flight director's decisions to the astronauts in space.
Okay, but What are the requirements?
Basic Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements before submitting an application:
Be a U.S. citizen.
Have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or math.
Have at least three years of related, progressively responsible professional experience.
Applications for our next Flight Director class open on Dec. 3, 2021 and close Dec. 16, 2021! Visit: go.nasa.gov/FlightDirector
