Mission Mausam: Centre to install wider network of radars, wind profilers by 2026

Amid rising global warming and related climate challenges around the world, the Union government’s Mission Mausam is expected to boost India’s weather and climate forecasting by 2026, said MoES Secretary.

Approved by the Union Cabinet this week, the Rs 2,000 crore ambitious initiative aims to make India ‘Weather Ready’ and ‘Climate Smart’.

Primary education is must for all and if school students are imparting it to the kids who are underprivileged and that too under a tree! Great, isn’t it? That is exactly what students associated with Sudha Open School have been doing for the past nine years, since its inception.

In order to encourage them for their contribution, the Children Entertainment Foundation (CEF) on Saturday honoured three school students from Gurgaon with Junior Citizen Awards at the Constitution Club of India. These students were recommended by SUDHA (Society for Upliftment & Development of Human Being by Action).

Mausam Kumari, a Class IV student, studies in Gurgaon’s DPS (Delhi Public School) Shiksha Kendra, Sector 45. As a volunteer, she attends Sudha Open School for two hours before leaving for DPS. Mausam teaches little kids there who cannot afford to go to school. Besides teaching, she also participates in social activities conducted by this society.

Similarly, 13-year-old Nishant Goyal, takes out time on weekends and holidays to teach underprivileged kids. Nishant, a Class VIII student of DPS Gurgaon Sector 45, also takes part in various social activities organised by SUDHA.

Shreya Parashar, another Class VIII student studying in Gurgaon's Amity International School, Sector 46, while participating in activities like street plays, skits etc, teaches kids during her weekends.

A total of 19 students from Delhi, NCR, Rajasthan, Haryana and Bihar were honoured on this occasion.

Founder of Junior Citizen Awards, Gorkhi Bakshi, while concluding the award ceremony, hinted at funding one of the students from next year who will carry out such voluntary initiatives.

Sudha Open School, is the brainchild of Gopal Krishan Bhatnagar, who left his bank job in 2009 and started the mission of teaching destitute children under a tree, located in a corner at South City 2.

He started out with 30 kids and 25 volunteers, who are students and retired persons. Around 100 students till now, who have studied in this school, got admission in government schools.

When City Spidey asked G K Bhatnagar, president of SUDHA, about his plans to expand such work in future, he said, “I am looking for people who can support me with this in a transparent manner.”

Presently, the money required to run this school comes via his pension amount, donations from well-wishers and his daughter, settled in the US.

Distinguished Educationists and Media personalities honoured on Teacher’s Day eve

Eminent educationists and media personalities were honoured with the prestigious Dr S. Radhakrishnan Memorial National Teacher and Media Network Award- 2018 at the Constitution Club of India on 4th September’2018. The Award program organized on the eve of Teacher’s Day under the aegis of Akhil Bhartiya Swatantra Patrakar Avom Lekhak Sangh (An Association of Freelance Journalists and Writers of India) was the 34th event in succession. This year’s event coinciding with the 131st Birth Anniversary of former President of India Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was graced by the presence of Union Minister of Steel Ch. Birender Singh who was the Chief Guest. The award function was inaugurated by Ambassador of Venezuela in India H.E Augusto Montiel and Santoor Maestro Padam Shree Pandit Bhajan Sopori.

Notable among the distinguished personalities who graced the event and honoured the awardees were Manoj Tiwari (Delhi BJP Chief and MP), Rakhi Birla (Deputy Speaker of Delhi Vidhan Sabha). Adesh Gupta (Mayor of NDMC), Dr Yoganand Shastri (Former Speaker of Delhi Vidhan Sabha), Dr Narender Nath (Former Education Minister), and Devender Yadav (AICC Secy and Co- Incharge Rajasthan).

Distinguished personalities while hailing the role of Media and Educationist also urged them to play a more pivotal role in Nation Building by being ‘Role Models’ for the youth brigade.

In his brief speech, Dr Yoganand Shastri said, “It is incredible that Akhil Bhartiya Swatantra Patrakar Avom Lekhak Sangh has been organizing and hosting the excellence awards in the field of education and media since the past 34 years. The distinctive aspect about their program being how they manage to introduce a novel component into these awards every year. Dr S. Radhakrishnan Memoral National Teacher’s and Media Network Award conferred on outstanding achievers by their organization has indeed been playing a crucial role in inspiring the brilliant achievers in various fields to scale even bigger heights. Educationists have a key role to play in the society which is why they are respected universally and remembered all their lives for their role in character building and holistic development. Teaching is unquestionably noblest of all professions.”

Union Cabinet approves ‘Mission Mausam’ to tackle extreme weather events, climate change impacts

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, approved ‘Mission Mausam’ to boost India’s weather and climate-related science, research, and services and better equip stakeholders, including citizens and last-mile users, in tackling extreme weather events and the impacts of climate change.
