It’s time, for Black Myth Wukong, my thoughts after finishing. I havent watched any actual explanation videos yet, so this is my interpretation too.

Tldr is give this game, game of the century

With how Journey to the West is and how it’s got Buddhism massively mixed into it from Chinese culture, I’m honestly not surprised it showed so much emphasis on life and such

This game heavily focuses on life, death, misdeeds, truth, and what it means to take a journey and move forward.

Bit of context:

Sun Wukong denied the opportunity to ascend to buddahood, to have immortality, so that he could live amongst the world and be free. He is killed, and you start your characters journey to collect Wukongs lost relics to allegedly revive Wukong.

However, by the end, its revealed you were always in a cycle, a cycle that meant you would always come back to this place after journeying to the west collect Wukongs lost relics, and that you would die and the cycle would restart.

The true ending however, after collecting the armour and staff, allows you to travel to a previous area and fight Erlang, the person from the start of the game, once again. Upon killing the four heavenly kings and defeating Erlang. Its revealed that he was never an enemy. In fact, Sun Wukong and Erlang werefriends. And another truth is revealed. Erlang had infact hidden the sixth relic of Wukong (mind) the entire time, and after you defeat him, he returns it too you. And with that, after defeating the Wukong boss, this time, before the crown is put back on you, you remember in one of the most beautiful sequence I have ever seen, it flashback replays the real Journey to the West story in reverse order, showing how by regaining the memories, you can refuse to wear the crown again and break the cycle.

You were always Sun Wukong, trapped in an infinite cycle from that old monkey. However the old monkey was infact, by reading into his outfit and the text, a member of the celestial court, creating this cycle and grooming you into your supposed path each time.

The most important parts are each of the chapter endings, and prior to the Sun Wukong boss fight.

The chapters each always show an important lesson. A missdeed of mortals in some way. Each related to the buddhism ideals. And this links into the other part, right before the fight. You travel in a boat, with the old monkey telling the acts of Wukong through his life. The things he did wrong, and badly. And they all relate to the chapter endings, on how the final bosses you defeat also comitted these same acts. The greed of Yellowbrow, the lust of Baijie. How everyone always wants to be free, but also to ascend to buddahood, but one cannot have both, and shouldnt have both.

And the entire point of the true ending, is that you are meant to overcome those misdeeds and wrongdoings, by learning from not just those you take down, but from Wukongs past itself too. And you do this by finding and fighting Erlang and killing the four heavenly kings. Thats the way you unlock the real ending, because you overcome those past trails and you finally break into being better. Your journey the entire time, it wasnt about resurrecting Sun Wukong, it was about learning to be better, to move forward.

Wukong wasnt perfect. He did a lot of bad things, but the one thing he still remained was that he was infact a hero to many, and a villain to others. But the most important thing too him, was that he was free. Freedom he lost the moment the crown was forced on him at the start, and ever since he died right at the start and generations past, he had been in a cycle over and over and over.

The journey all along was about finding the way to be better than those wrong actions, and in doing so, you find englightment. You find peace. And with that true ending, it takes us all the way back to the start of the story. The start of the real Journey to the West story.

PS: Chapter 5 was the real start to the tease of the cycle. The ending story part was a big hint. And in a past cycle, you actually killed the fox girl that was the daughter of the bull. Well, Baijie did, so she was never even alive by the time you played that Chapter. It was always the son in an illusion. Its why the bull says that wherever you go you always leave a broken family. Its why the water guy says you dont even know what you are destined for. Its why a lot of the bosses make reference to you coming back not just from death. Youre stuck in the cycle.

"Yesss, we are!"

[They emphasized each word with little extra shoves, though it felt like trying to move a brick wall…]

"Come onnn, it won't work if you don't take it a little seriously!"

[Their tone was light, yet held a touch of sincerity. They didn't blame him for thinking they were kidding… it wasn't an easy thing to start in earnest. Perhaps they needed to vouch for it some more...]

"I found out about this online a while ago… I thought it sounded silly at first too, but it's surprisingly effective. It's what gave me the little bit of confidence I had, if you remember how snarky I was way back when… Always talking about how I would fight Owl… Acting way bigger than I was. Heh."

[They shook their head with a small smirk at the various memories. Even now, there was still lots to be fixed with Owl.]

"Oh, wait! hold on-"

[They pulled away suddenly, scurrying off towards their pile of junk. They pulled out a scuffed (but rather fancy looking) mirror, the bottom half missing. They propped it up against the wall, fiddling with it until it was balanced, giving them a full (albeit slightly skewed) view of themselves. They stepped aside, revealing Sonny's reflection instead.]

"There. These things work best with a mirror to speak into…"

[Sonny watched at they dragged that mirror into view, seeing them adjust it so that they both have a clear view of themselves.]

[He looked into the reflective pane of glass with a slight warble of a frown, staring upon his reflection a bit... scrutinizingly.]

[His mind couldn't help but linger, a memory that he had thought he had pushed down itching at the back of his mind]

[Glass shattering, a handheld mirror clanging to the grey tiling that lined the mile long flooring underneath his feet. His creaky hands, puppetlike and wrong, pressing painfully against his face, nails scratching into rough skin. The raw skin of his neck, it burned something awful, scars that linger from his missdeed. All he could do was sob.]

[Sonny took a breath, and he was able to keep it from showing on his face- those awful first few moments of his new life. Or what was left of one.]

"I.... I don't know..."

[He looked away from it for a moment, letting the breath exit his lungs with a shred of tension.]

"I guess I could... try it, if that's what you wish, My Love. Just dont be disheartened if... nothing comes of it? "

She walked smoothly across the floor. Not a hint of discomfort or misplaced step. Master had had her train for hours so she could walk gracefully with the #4 ass plug. The new slut was kneeling on the floor ready for orientation!

"Welcome to your new home, with a new master!" She made sure to use a soft and friendly tone. She didnt want to scare the girl... yet.

"I'm here to by your guide, so we don't have any misunderstanding. There are 4 rules that you have to remember. Keep them in mind and your time here can be very pleasant. "

#1: There is no escape. Any attempts will be met with harsh punishment

#2: Masters word is law. Disobey and punishment will be swift

#3: Honesty is essential. If you confess to any missdeed and honestly atone, punishment can be forgiven

#4: Life can always get better. Life can always be worse

"Do you understand?"

Erik sighs as he gets up from Nadir's lap: Fine. Ultimate weapon released.

Nadir rushing to Lestat: Mask. Here. Now.

Lestat wide-eyed hands Nadir the mask.

Nadir: Erik can not do what ever he wants. None us us can. He should not be forgiven his missdeeds because he is... "hideous", as you said. He should be forgiven because he had such a terrible childhood that he never learned the difference between right and wrong. One's looks should not matter when it comes to law but one's experiences do. As should one's ability to feel remorse...

Erik: Mon cher. I think he's had enough.

Lestat looking at Erik like a confused, a bit scared child.

Nadir: No. He hasn't. Now you listen to me, mister... Hide your fangs! Making such faces at me won't work. I've seen scarier things in my life... Now you sit down and listen.

Lestat letting out a little "eep".

Erik facepalming: Oh, what have I released.

Ok so I just got a TikTok and I’ve got some ~observations~. One is that someone will post a video like “you aren’t X identity Y is *not* valid ever how dare you think you have any right… etc etc” and then a full %20 of the comments will be like “ONG I was so sacred until I remembered I literally am X identity!”. And like… I don’t know why but that’s the biggest tip-off of some kind of weird gatekeeping going on. Like something’s not right here if even the people you’re trying to defend feel attached by what your saying.
