Purgatory 8 con took place this past weekend and words have been spoken [x].

Jensen Ackles trended briefly on May 25 and then several tags began trending again on May 27. It looks like a bunch of things about destiel were said, alongside the typical con chaos which resulted in the trend. Below are some highlights (though not all of them have video sources):

Going to draw attention to this part of the panel where Jensen and Misha spend five minutes just talking about all the great guest stars and recurring actors they've had on the show, how great the characters are, and how the cast is not only talented but there was a really high amount of good people they love hanging out with. Both Jensen and Misha spoke enthusiastically about that, but Jensen in particular here again spoke very eloquently and warmly about the extended cast, as he has repeatedly before now. It's unfortunately necessary to highlight this about Jensen given certain standom narratives some insist on that don't at all reflect Jensen's full actual views, his love and respect for the whole cast, and his artist eye view of appreciation for what those characters and actors brought to the story.

His panels were so much fun! Mark Sheppard is such a nasty heartwarming bastard! Badass, yeah, but…

He had two panels. I was there. In both of them he was just walking around and get in contact with people.

A girl cried over a picture she made with Jared and he made sure she got the opportunity to make another one.

I mean, seriously: that’s the nicest thing!

People in wheelchairs he greeted with handshakes, he talked with people he passed. And I mean, he really talked! (And sorry to say that, not making fun of them a bit like Misha did)

He also talked about his experience when he died and came back. He was holding a speech addressed especially to men in their 50s to do a simple heartcheck and that this can be lifesaving.

I honestly had no idea, I heard it before but to see it myself is different, that Mark Sheppard is indeed a great guy!

That was my personal highlight… Yeah, and the Karaoke night of course!!

Ayyy sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but do you happen to have or know of a post or some kind of rundown that kind of gives the highlights of what's happened with Cockles/Misha/Jensen/Destiel at the cons recently? I've stopped going on Twitter, which was my main source of fandom news. So I've been disconnected for a while, and I desperately need to know what's been happening lol. I love seeing everyone freaking out about stuff, but I have no context 😂

Hi! There isn’t one single vid out there, people posted some snippets from the panel over on twitter. The main discussed thing was Jensen again telling the story about how he met Misha on the set and thought he was a freak and how he has grown to respect and love him. Here’s the vid of that I stitched together from twitter vids. Misha also took a pic of Jensen with a pack of skittles (bc of the whole diddle a skittle thing) and as per tradition they were holding up the queue in photo ops bc they wanted to talk to each other instead 😅 That’s the run down for ya! So the usual jenmish shenanigans!

Crossroads 8/CR8

So we knew, as soon as Creepy Uncle Misha was announced as "headliner" (I use that term loosely obviously) that we were in for a Heller con. It's a shame that Creepy Uncle Misha running his lying, inappropriate, queerbaiting, crowdpleasing, showboating mouth has overshadowed the whole con but here we are. I paid for a pic and an auto from him, and I honestly wish I hadn't. The auto was a scribble and thank you, no interaction, no eye contact, no smile. Pretty much the same with the pic. He was the only celeb that was like this. It's like he only switches on when he's the centre of attention. Who knew?! (Oh, us. We did)

So I'm not getting into the crap he spouted, and I'm just going to give you my favourite bits from all the panels I went to and the celebs I met. I haven't laughed as much as I did this weekend in an age!

*Firstly, Mark Shepperd is an amazing human being. He's as gruff, rude, bossy, dry, funny and adorable as you'd expect. He told me off twice. I loved it! And I love him ❤️

*Same with Rob Benedict. Had a lovely chat with him about the podcasts and his and Ruth's baby. He sang Fare Thee Well and Creep in the final panel, it was goosepimply hauntingly beautiful. Utterly magical.

*Am now a little bit in love with Tomer Capone. He was humble, gorgeous, funny and an all round lovely guy. Gives amazing hugs too!

*Karen Fukahama was tiny and gorgeous. She's really funny and I adored her. Such fun on her and tomers panels. Cannot wait till Season 4 of the Boys. No spoilers, but it sounds EPIC!!!!

*AlCal was also a lovely hugger! I asked for a Jack wave but he decided we were hugging instead so that was a bit special. Also felt quite sorry for him in one of his panels as there was some kind of weirdo who asked him if he'd found a black feather...very strange and stalkery.

*Jim Beaver was exactly how you'd expect him to be. He called me darlin' on multiple occasions. Life made lol. His panels with Steven Williams were one of the highlights of the weekend. Those two need a podcast together. So so funny.

*Cindy Sampson was my biggest surprise. Wasn't overly keen on Lisa at all in the show, like many people. Cindy is a bloody joy. She has no filter, just like me! She was brilliant, loved meeting her.

*Special mention for hilarity goes to the start of the Alcal, Rob and Creepy Uncle Misha panel. In passing, someone said "oh no, he didnt". If you know anything about the British, you'll probably know what happened next. (If you don't, Google British pantomime!) It descended quickly into a traditional panto back and forth, but our US friends had no clue at all what was happening. Bless Ruth for educating Rob in our cultural heritage, he was able to explain it to the others. Left most of the audience cry laughing.

Anyway, I'm knee deep in conflu so I'm about to go to bed, but any questions at all about the con, please ask! Even if you just want a chat, I'm around x

I've seen a couple people say they didn't want to shop stands, but I'm not sure why, is there drama?

Well, as with pretty much all things SPN, there is indeed drama with Stands lol. Largely, it's about fandom grifting and encouraging fan wank. I was hoping to find a timeline type of rundown, but this 2021 post by @canonicallysoulmates is the best I can find at the moment.

Some highlights:

The person/people running Stands have fed into and off of anti-Jared retweets and hashtag campaigns.

They pander to Hellers, even deleting tweets according to Heller pressure.

The charity work is kinda shady.

Misha seems to be part-owner, or otherwise has a hand in the cookie jar.

When Misha "came out as bi" Stands immediately jumped on selling merch for it, and there's speculation Misha held off on a retraction intended for his next panel at the same convention, because of the Stands merch.

Recently it seems Michelle from Stands has gotten her hand into Jared's cookie jar

heya! i was at purcon last week & that feels like a bit of a blur when it comes to misha/cockles lol so there's probably stuff missing but in no particular order here's some highlights:

I'm a little late with this post because I have literally spent like 3 days sleeping and recovering but anyway I had the absolute best time at crossroads! Seeing Misha in costume as Cas was so exciting and overwhelming, I had a little happy cry afterwards. I also fell completely in love with Tomer and Karen from The Boys this weekend, and ended up buying a sneaky extra photo with Tomer.

The other main highlight of the weekend was my ride in the Impala! It's been there for several previous cons I've been at, and I've missed it every single time and I missed it again Friday when it arrived outside the Hilton just after I'd returned to my own hotel room. But someone came up to me at the bar on Sunday evening and told me it was outside so I raced out there, and was the last one to get to ride in it around the car park before they stopped for the night! And holy shit, I absolutely lost my mind.

Panels were fun (I knew as soon as I heard it that Misha's 'balls deep' comment would soon be blowing up online lmao), parties were fun, although sadly I decided to only stay for a little while Saturday night and save my energy to stay up all night Sunday, and that didn't happen. I mean, I did stay up all night, but only because I had a bad seizure towards the end of the night, and due to the con being over and me being the Hilton hotel's responsibility, they had to insist on us calling an ambulance, so I was wrapped up in foil blankets like a human burrito all night until paramedics arrived at about 6am. It was actually pretty scary (never been that weak and out of it for so long after a seizure before and apparently I turned blue for a while, fun times) and I was devastated about missing out on a lot of the party, but I at least managed the Cha Cha Slide before my body gave out on me! And the people who sat with me all night and took care of me were amazing. The paramedics were kind enough to drop me back at my hotel too, so I got a late checkout and a nice lie in when I got back!

Overall, it was a pretty great time. Whether I make the next one in September is unknown at the moment but I'd love to!

It's easy to say every actor at purcon 7 was a highlight, and I think it's true. Every one of them was a little gem on its own. I was not able to watch more than Misha's panels and Mark's panel on Sunday, but all of them made me cry and laughing at the ending ceremony.

It was a blast. I had some problems at the con, but in the end, the good things are all that matters to me right now. I was able to meet Misha. I could tell him what his poetry book means to me. Now I know Felicia's daughter loves unicorns. (I guess I have to buy her one if she comes back to Germany) I love Mark's personality. He is rude sometimes and direct and like he said he wants us to suffer, but he is also encouraging us. I saw him hugging fans at his panel and told them, they're going to make it.

I wasn't at Robert's concert but he said he loved it and the fans there. Alex Calvert couldn't believe he was actually on the stage.

Ruth called the convention a sausage party.

Jake Abel thanked us for his loss of German virginity, I think.

And Misha ... I hope he never changes. I hope, next time I don't need to buy more than one photo and autograph. *g*

Here’s some further nuance on what’s happened here:

Misha got hate and was called a liar and called disrespectful and rude for highlighting a very real systemic issue in linear broadcast TV that isn’t only at the CW, and has been an issue for decades, concerning how networks, not just the CW, put caps on representation. Even when there is other representation, the mentality is still repressive. You can have this much representation and no more. He spoke up at a con OUSA where filming of panels isn’t allowed.

Jared gets treated like a hero for having a public, high profile tantrum on one of the biggest entertainment news media outlets to call out CW Nexstar for retooling their business model to become like all the other linear broadcast TV networks. Where CW has sports and game shows and there’s a highly strict bottom line concerning profitability. This is common practice for ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox. Old CW was never a “real” linear broadcast model in the first place. WB/Viacom (CBS) made money off streaming not CW broadcast. Nielsen numbers never mattered there as much as the profits they made from streaming. The netflix deal is the actual reason CW stayed alive, not Jared.

Not that CW Nexstar didn’t create its own problems. In the course of their goals to become a profitable network and trying to be just like the big boys, they went so draconian, cut so down to the bone, they burned off bankable talents and good shows. Because their per ep licensing fee caps were so strict. But there is nothing shocking about the business remodel.

It’s weird. That is just plain weird that Jared is treated as the hero and a revolutionary while Misha gets hate and called a liar while people ignore how much bolder Misha’s criticism of the system actually is. Jared goes off about stuff the CW Nexstar president himself has said in countless interviews. Publicly acceptable, public knowledge. Whereas Misha’s sting at linear broadcast censorship and caps on representation is one of those things nobody is supposed to talk about. While I’m fairly sure Misha shouldn’t care about alienating the CW Nexstar any more, systemically, Misha stuck his neck out more, as carefully as he could. Jared’s tantrum isn’t speaking on any forbidden subject the system would like silenced, it’s him reacting to obvious and self-declared business remodeling.

These things are not the same.

It is CRAZY to me that Misha would think he ‘hasn’t accomplished anything’ in his life (yet.) (When he was talking in his BURCON panel about not writing an autobiography because he doesn’t feel he has achieved anything?? MADNESS. I actually scoffed.)

Someone really needs to sit that man down and enumerate all the amazing things he’s done so far in his life. Emphatically. Make him realize how incredible his life has been so far and remind him of all the fantastic things he’s done and achieved.

Some people write entire memoirs about just one event in their life. Successful, fascinating memoirs!

And I passionately disagree with the “maybe I’ll write it when I’m old” argument. You forget SO MUCH of your life if you don’t write it down. I’d go so far as to say you forget MOST of your life when you don’t write it down. Waiting til you’re old is a terrible idea. You will forget the little things that make your life a real life. You’ll forget how things felt, what you thought, so much of the minutiae that makes your life yours and not just a highlights reel cobbled together at the end. Please don’t wait to write. This goes for everybody. Write yourself down. Just do it. Now. Please.

I too disagree with him, a lot. Does he think we all follow him like ducklings follow their mother for just his good looks and shoulder to waist ratio???? That man has led such a fascinating & full life and has done so much good. I can only hope to accomplish a percentile of that. He is an absolute inspiration to me personally day in day out. Like someone who has lacked non judgemental parental guidance in her life, Misha has become a voice in my head to help me figure the world & myself out. Idk what he is on about with "I haven't accomplished anything in my life" bs. On the other hand, even that thought of him helps me because I can clearly see how people misjudge their accomplishments and it makes me more aware of my own perhaps. All in all, Misha has been great for my soul so far 💞

As for writing things down when you are younger, Ive never thought about that but you are right! I hope he does, I mean he can always go back and watch his spn panels to jog his memory, still I bet his juiciest stories still aren't all im there so.

- in light of recent events, every j2 interaction from over the last year suddenly starts to hit different (e.g. the disastrous creation con panel)

- PR advisors inevitably descend, and j2 craft poorly written apologies that only highlight the growing rift between them

- an excess of bumpy road analogies appear on twitter

- the already strained mental health of the spn fandom starts to crack, with many people leaving for good

- jensen’s aunt goes rogue on twitter

- 24 hours on and spn tumblr is trying to reconcile genuine sympathy for jensen with the delirious highs evoked by the truly unprecedented levels of drama

- kripke tweets something that's probably meant to placate everyone but instead just further emphasises the rift between jensen and jared

- kripke hastily deletes his tweets and probably regrets every creating the cw show supernatural

- jared, without any sense of irony, implores people not to send hate on twitter. this receives an (understandably) mixed reception

- spn maintains its political reputation, as trump's former legal advisor comes out in support of jared

- somewhere in the us, a publishing intern is suddenly bombarded with lies about the author of an upcoming poetry collection, as, in an impressively horrible move, jared stans decide the way to solve everything is to send abuse about misha collins to his publisher

- non spn blogs start to become genuinely concerned by the fact half of tumblr is still a blazing furnace of destruction

- j2 stans continue to dig themselves even deeper into denial, claiming the entire twitter feud was simply a PR stunt

- misha collins makes a brief appearance as the voice of reason, and then sensibly sees himself out again

- some fans start to come round to the idea of the prequel, possibly because they've had time to consider, or possibly because, in comparison to the last 48 hours, nothing seems that bad

- just as things are starting to calm down a little, jensen uses the word "canon" in a tweet and the fandom implodes again (this time at the implication of destiel)

- jared notably still does not apologise for using shakespeare's words in vain against robbie thompson

- jensen causes yet another (admittedly, smaller) fandom meltdown by changing his twitter header

- "that's it... no more twitter today"

- despite the poorly crafted and unconvincing apologies, mainstream media won't shut up about the j2 fallout any more than tumblr will

- the schism between jared stans and hellers inevitably deepens

- somewhere in canada, jensen ackles probably has a breakdown

- misha collins does, as expected, post a nude video of himself to take the heat off jensen (*insert cockles joke here*)

- 72 hours on and peace finally seems on the horizon as, on the tumblr dash, compilations of misha collins in bathtubs start to outnumber twitter screenshots

- it seems like biden is okay (for now), but the real question is: has anyone checked on putin?
