Flufftober Day 14: Butterfly garden w/ Mirio Togata

Word count: 1.3k, Gender-Neutral reader

The sun shone through the sky confidently as the four of you made your way into the beautiful gardens. You and Mirio hand in hand while Tamkai and Neijire followed closely behind. The gardens were thankfully not as crowded as you would have expected, giving it a transcendent-like atmosphere.

He walks up next to you, his eyes filled with admiration and love as he watches your reaction. He reaches out and takes your hand in his, holding it tightly as he smiles at you. “They're almost as beautiful as you.” You chuckle at his statement, “Aw Mirio, you're so cheesy!” Walking through the tidy gardens, The two of you see Neijire and Tamaki enjoying themselves a bit away near the small waterfall. The water reflects off the light almost hypnotically. This place was truly a dream.

He chuckles along with you, his hand still holding yours as you walk. “Looks like they're having fun too.” His eyes avert back to the butterflies fluttering around the two of you. 

“This was an awesome idea!” You chirp up, walking towards one of the rooms to read the facts about the certain butterflies encapsulating you. He follows you, his eyes scanning over the information about the different butterfly species. He quickly pulls out his phone, trying his best to stop himself from laughing at how sweet you look with the insect. He holds up his phone and snaps a picture of you, the butterfly still resting on your forehead. “Did ya get it?” He looks at his phone, checking the picture he took of you. He smiles and nods. “Yeah! I got it. And it's adorable.” He says, showing you the picture. You chuckle at your face, seeing how the butterfly rendered you defenseless. 

Suddenly you furrow your brows causing the butterfly to fly back to its friends. “That was awesome!” Your smile radiates onto Mirio, admiring his award winning smile. As you look behind the overgrown vines, the sun casts a warm glow about half way down the sky. “The sun looks so beautiful from here… let's head into the main garden with the others.” He was feeling just as awestruck as you were, nodding in agreement. 

“It must look even more beautiful from there!” He says, his hand taking yours as he starts walking.

The two of you continue walking until you notice a cute oak bridge across the main attraction: a pond. You reach the middle of the bridge looking out onto the pond covered in lily pads and swarmed with the butterflies. Mirio gazes out at the pond, admiring the clusters of lily pads and butterflies that flutter around them. He squeezes your hand as he takes in the beauty of nature around him, his eyes sparkling with wonder. “This is incredible…” He says softly, turning to look at you with a smile on his face.

Your eyes widen from all of the eye-catching sights engulfing you, “I know right... so gorgeous” He gazes at you, mesmerized by the way the sunlight dances across your face and the way your eyes light up with wonder. Now that they were at U.A., Mei was the one to help Mirio with his academics, since the pair were in class A and Tamaki was in class B. “I was getting in some extra practice with my quirk training,” Mirio explained.

“Makes sense… well, if you need some help with your essay, you know where to find me,” Mei said to her friend, smiling over at him. “I’ll need to take you up on that,” he replied, smiling back. The pair continued to talk about their classes and their classmates as they walked, and soon they were at Mei’s place, which was a few blocks closer to U.A.’s campus than Mirio’s was. “Okie dokes! Here’s my stop!! Just text or call me when you have any questions about the homework!” Mei said, turning to go inside. “Will do, Mei! Hey!! Wait a second,” he said, causing her to turn back to him.

“What’s up?” she asked. “Do you want to hang out this weekend?” he asked. “I think Tamaki has that trip with his family,” she answered, knowing it was usually the three of them, and sometimes Nejire that hung out. “Oh, I know… I was thinking it’d be fun if it was just the two of us!” Mirio said. He nervously rubbed the back of his neck with a hand, and Mei noticed that his cheeks were a bit tinted. “Like… a date?” Mei clarified, her cheeks beginning to heat up as well. “Yeah, if you’d be down!! Y’see, I really like spending time with you, Mei… and I owe you for all the times you’ve helped me with my homework,” he said.

“So? Whaddya say?” Mirio asked, after a thoughtful silence from Mei. “I’d really like that…” she said, smiling, but not meeting his eyes, as she was too shy to. “SWEET!!! So, like, Saturday afternoon, then?” he asked, excitedly. She now looked at him and nodded, saying, “it’s a date,” before turning towards her house. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Mei!” Mirio waved, turning to leave. “And I’ll talk to you tonight, I’m sure,” she said, waving back. As she entered her house, she greeted her parents and then found herself in the safe solitude of her room.

*A date?? Does he… like me like that? I mean, we hang out all the time, but usually Tamaki and Hado are there… Well, he did say that it was to pay me back for all the help I’ve given him with our homework. Yeah… there’s no way he actually likes me, right?* she thought to herself as she undressed to take a shower. These thoughts continued to swim in her head, despite all things being normal between her and Mirio through the rest of the week… With the exception of Mirio dropping hints every now and then.

“Heyyyy, you excited for Saturday??”

“Only 3 days til we get to hang out!”

“What about ramen after we hit up the arcade? That’d be sooo yummy!”

“You better bring your best game this weekend! HA!”

Mirio made comments like this in passing whenever the thought of the date came up (which was often), and it made the people around Mei ask about it further, especially Tamaki. “What’s he on about?” he asked Mei after he dropped a hint in passing as the pair of cousins studied in the library. “We’re going on a date on Saturday…” she said, nonchalantly, though her cheeks were clearly red at the confession. “You- WHAT?” he asked in a rather loud tone, for Tamaki anyways. “Why didn’t you tell me?” he then asked.

“I don’t know… I guess I didn’t want to jinx it… like, if I told someone about it, then he’d change his mind or something,” she said, even though she knew it was a stupid thought. “Don’t be ridiculous… Mirio wouldn’t change his mind about that… He’s been wanting to ask you out for a long time now,” Tamaki said, realizing he probably said too much. “Really?” she asked, blushing even harder, and Tamaki noticed. “I didn’t know you liked him like that…” he observed, causing her to shake her head, as if that would make the blush go away.

“To be fair, I didn’t know either… I mean… who wouldn’t like him, though? He’s funny, strong, brave, determined…” Mei begin to list off. As she did so, she began to realize more and more about what she liked about him. In fact, as the week went on and Mei continued to think about Mirio, that like for him felt like it was beginning to become something stronger. The Friday before, Mei sat at her seat in class A, finishing up her notes from the class that had just ended. “Yo, Togata! A few of us guys are going to rent out the gym tomorrow to get in some extra training… you in?” Mei overheard one of their classmates asking.

“Sorry, fellas, I can’t join you, I’ve already got plans!” Mirio replied cheerfully. “Oh, really?? You got a hot date or something?” one of the guys teased. “Actually, yeah!” he replied, stuffing books in his backpack. “But I’ll eat lunch with ya to make up for my absence tomorrow,” he added, looking over to Mei, who he normally ate lunch with. “Tell Tamaki I’m eating with the guys today!” Mirio called over before following his classmates to the lunch hall. *A hot date???* the words repeated in Mei’s head as she packed up her backpack.

You were waiting at the Zoo entrance for Mirio, looking at the time on your phone seeing how late he is, 10 minutes. He isn’t usually this late for dates so you start to get worried and send him a quick text

Jozi: Hey Mimi(funny nickname I thought of) I jus wnted to know ur eta to the zoo

You turned your phone off again and started pondering what the surprise could be. You didn’t ask for anything recently? So you’re left curious what Mirios gift could actually be. About 5 minutes go by and you see Mirios' car pull up and park near the entrance you were standing at. As you look over there you see a flash white get out the backseat, then you see Mirio get out of the driver's side and lift this blob of white up into his arms. He is walking closer and you see that it's actually Eri! You look at Mirio confused for a second before he pulls you in with his free arm and kisses the top of your head “Hi my sweets” he says into your hair “I'm sorry for taking so long, Eri’s babysitter canceled on her so she is our plus one today” he looked down at her and smiled, and then looked back at you “If that’s ok with you?”. You looked at both of them and then started to smile softly at them “Yea, it's ok”. Mirio turns to Eri and motions her to you, “Hey Eri this is my girlfriend Jozi, she's super nice and so much fun to hang out with, and I think you two are going to be the bestest of friends” He said with smile that could save anyone just from looking at it. Eri looks at you and then with her other hand takes yours and starts to hold it “Do you like pandas?”.

The sun was up and shining through your bedroom window, the slight chill of the outside creeping in through the cracked window. You burrowed yourself within your plush duvet, the presence of your boyfriend gone. You shrug it off, moving your head underneath the covers slightly, succumbing to sleep once more.

Mirio smiles as he pokes his head through the door of the bedroom. He slowly walks inside, quietly and carefully, trying not to make any noise so that he doesn't wake you up, but when he is already right next to the bed, he can no longer help the desire to see you awake, so he crawls up next to you in bed.

He pokes your nose lightly, earning a grumble from your half-awake form. He chuckles softly at your grumpy demeanor and your sleepy behavior. He leans in a little closer as he reaches over and runs a soft hand through your hair. He whispers in a low, cheerful tone, a smile tugging at his lips, “Morning, sleepyhead!”

You glanced up, seeing his bright blue eyes glimmer in the sunlight. You smiled slightly, regaining some consciousness. “Hey Miri”

He grins, his eyes lighting up as you say his nickname. He moves a hand to cup your cheek, his thumb gently rubbing along your skin. “Merry Christmas, sweetie!” He leans in a bit closer, a smile still on his face. “Did you sleep well?”

You nod, sitting up and yawning to your heart's desire. His smile just grows at seeing just how sleepy you still are. It's incredibly cute, and it just makes his want to smother you with cuddles even more “Well, in that case, how about we go open some gifts now, hm?” he chuckles softly, ruffling his hand through your hair again.

You finally get up, wearing one of his random hero tees and some sweatpants, your bed head insane yet not unwelcome to Mirios gaze. The two of you head into the living room, sitting on the carpeted floor together. He grabs a present from under the tree and waits as you get comfortable. “You're such a grump after you wake up baby” he teases fondly, poking your cheek with a playful smile.

You grin softly, “Alright Mr. Sunshine and rainbows” 

He barks out a laugh at your sarcasm, crossing his legs as he sits next to you. “Hey, you're supposed to appreciate my sunshine and rainbows~ It's what makes me who I am” he teases, sticking his tongue out in a playful manner.

You chuckle and mumble a short ‘whatever’ before as you motion for him to open his gift. He grins at the soft sound of your chuckle, watching you for a moment before he finally turns his attention to the present in his hands. He carefully unwraps the gift and upon his eyes landing on the contents inside, his eyes immediately light up.

He carefully sets aside the wrapping paper and glances back up at you, a wide smile taking over his entire face. His eyes practically sparkle as he lets out an excited little laugh

“You got me tickets to the new hero movie we wanted to see!!!” He exclaims, clearly very happy about his present.

“Yep, premiere package and everything” You grin proudly, crossing your arms.

He grins back, looking down at the tickets again, his eyes going wide at the realization that they're premiere tickets. “Damn.. You really pulled out all the stops, huh?” he laughs incredulously, looking back up at you in amazement.

You nod before reaching under the tree for one of your many gifts. He watches you carefully open the gift, trying his damndest to keep his excited smile under control as he's practically dying for you to get to the contents inside. 

As you open the gift, you find a photo album full of... Photos of the two of you. The very first one dates all the way back to middle school.. Some are funny, some are serious and loving, and others.. Well, they're pretty "spicy".

He bites his lip, watching you carefully as he gauges your reaction. You raise your brows in surprise, flipping through it eagerly. “Mirio…”

He chuckles as you flip through the pages, his chest swelling a bit at the sight of his gift being well received. He shifts to sitting closer so he can see better as he glances down at the photos, a soft smile on his face. “Do you like it?”

You look between him and the book “Well- wah, duh i love it! Woah…”

His smile only grows, and after your response, a small blush rises in his cheeks. Seeing just how much you like his gift, he feels an intense sense of happiness. He rests a hand on your leg, his thumb gently rubbing along your skin as he glances back down at the pictures. “I'm glad.. You know, I really enjoyed making that album”

You smile, leaning forward and pecking his lips, closing the book. “And i am going to love reading it”

The gentle touch of your lips makes his smile widen, and he lets out a happy hum at your response. He leans a little closer, wrapping an arm around your hip and pulling you flush against him with a cheeky grin. “You better, because it took me forever to find all those photos!” He teases jokingly as he pokes your side.

The two of you proceed to open many more of the aforementioned gifts now being surrounded by plushies, new clothing, appliances and even multiple gift cards to some of your favourite shops. Finally you too get to the stockings, Mirio opens his first, grinning as he digs through the contents of the stocking, finding all sorts of small things you had packed inside. His eyes light up as he finds his favorite candy, and he immediately pops a piece in his mouth. “You're always spoiling me, you know that?” he teases, looking at you with a smirk.

You put your hands up in defense, “Santa felt generous this year hehe” You lean up, taking your stocking down. 

He laughs at your sarcastic response, his smirk growing wider as you go to grab your own stocking. “Yeah, Santa is feeling really generous today..” he comments lightly, his hands falling into his lap as he watches you carefully open the stocking he prepared for you.

You pick up the hefty stocking, pulling out a few of your favourite candies and items you had recently run out of along with a cute keychain with Mirios hero emblem on it. You flash it to him with a chuckle, “Cute, baby”

He grins a little wider at your little comment, finding you adorable when you praise his gift. He watches as you continue digging through the stocking, his heart pounding quickly in his chest as he waits for you to find the final item.

You stick your hand in, digging down to the bottom of it before feeling a smallish square box. You pull it out, observing that  it's wrapped neatly with a small silk bow around it. You grin softly, toying with it. “What's this?”

He swallows, his heart rate increasing a bit more upon the sight of your soft, curious smile as you hold the box in your hands. His own palms grow clammy as he watches in anticipation. “Why don't you open it and find out?” he teases, voice a little shaky but with a smile on his face nonetheless.

And that you do, opening it and unwrapping the festive paper. Underneath that was a small black box. You quirk your brow, looking between the box and Mirio before opening it gently.

Mirios heart feels like it might jump out of his chest as you unwrap the paper and open the small black box, his stomach tied in knots as he watches your expression change with curiosity. He's both incredibly nervous and excited at the same time, and he can barely breathe as he holds back the wave of anxious words that want to break free. As you open the box, you find a small, shiny silver ring sitting on the red velvet cushion within.

You furrow your brows, the dots connecting as you mumble. “Mirio...?”

He smiles nervously, his heart racing faster than he ever imagined it could as he looks at your confused expression. He takes a deep breath, before speaking, his voice shaky and his hands shaking just a little. “Yes, darling..?”

“Is this…..?”

His smile gets a little bit wider at the sight of your eyes welling up a tad, a hint of hope starting to bubble in his chest. He reaches over and gently grabs your hand, his fingers trembling just a little as he interlocks his fingers with yours. His eyes soften as he speaks again, his voice thick with admiration.

“Yeah. It is.”

He takes the box from your trembling hands to his, kneeling even though he really didn't have to with the height you too were at now. He held your hands in his own as he looked up at your beautiful face. He can practically hear his heart beating in his ears, and he knows he'll never be more nervous than in this moment

“Y/N, I.. I love you so, so much, and I can't imagine my life without you anymore. We've known each other for years, and ever since then I've only fallen deeper in love with you. So.. Will you do me the honor of being mine, forever more?” he asks, swallowing as he looks at you intently.

You shake your head before lunging in to hug him.”Yes Mirio!”

He lets out a happy sound, wrapping his arms around you and holding you close as you hug him, his body practically buzzing with happiness as you say yes. He burrows his head into your shoulder, pressing a soft kiss to your neck as he holds you tighter against him.

Mirio pulls abc slightly, placing the ring on your finger and watches intently as it slides into place, his heart swelling with happiness at the sight of it. He brushes his thumb over the ring, admiring how it shines on your finger for a moment in silence, before looking back up at you with the brightest, most loving smile you've ever seen on his face

“It looks beautiful on you, my love..”

You smile stupidly, your cheeks starting to hurt a bit as the tears welling up finally threatened to fall. You lean in, capturing his lips within yours. He returns the kiss eagerly, using one of his hands to brush away any of your tears and cup your cheek, his other arm pulling you even closer to him so that he can press his body completely up against yours as the kiss continues.

After a while, he slowly pulls away, resting his forehead against yours as he continues to cup your cheek. His eyes flutter open gazing at you, his face only inches away from yours. He lets out a soft huff, his eyes full of love and warmth as he stares into yours.

“I love you so unbelievably much, babe..!”

You run your hands across his warm cheeks, pressing your forehead against his flushed one. “Me too, Mirio...goddamn i love you” 

He hums happily as you press your forehead to his, the feeling of your hands against his skin sending warm, tingly sensations down his spine. He closes his eyes for a moment as he soaks up your touch, a soft smile on his face as he lets his hands fall down to rest on your hips. “I want to spend the rest of my life with you, y'know. Make you happy every day, and protect you, love you.. Forever.”

Drabble I had in drafts for too long

“You wanted to see me, All Might?” Mirio peaked his head into the teacher’s lounge. The Pro Hero looked over to the young man selected to inherit greatness. “Ah, yes. Come one in, young man!” He said cheerfully. Mirio grinned and entered, closing the door behind him. “I have been keeping an eye on you. You are a wonderful student and I’m sure you will be the top hero in no time at all!” All Might praised the boy. “You’re too kind, sir. I just wanna make everyone smile.” He chuckled sheepishly.

All Might hummed. “But its that exact mindset that has led me to decide that you are worthy of something very important.” He informed Mirio, earning a surprised look. “What is it?”

The elder man took a deep breath. He started to explain how his own quirk works and how he had inherited it from someone else. Soon, he plucked out a long golden strand of his hair. “I was blessed with this power, and now, I wish to bless you. You are a wonderful hero, young Togata. I know you will accomplish so much.” He said with a proud smile. Mirio’s eyes widened. “Is…Is this the reason you’ve been hanging around me for the past few months?” He stammered. All Might nodded. “I was informed you would be an excellent candidate and I was not disappointed in the least.” Mirio teared up at the words from the number one hero of Japan. He quickly wiped his tears. “Thank you so much for this opportunity, sir!” Mirio exclaimed, bowing. “None of that nonsense! Are you in?” All Might asked. Mirio straightened up and nodded. “Yes, sir! So…what’s the hair for?” He asked, pointing at the strand. All Might grinned. “Eat this.” He said, earning a confused look. After the exchange, All Might sent the boy off to return to his studies. He sighed and pulled out his phone to text his old sidekick, informing him that the deed was done. Suddenly, Mirio popped his head in again, this time, through the wall. “Heyo, All Might! You asked to see me? Sorry I’m late. There was a girl who asked me to help get her kitten out of a tree.” He chuckled. All Might stared in confusion. “Y-You were just here?” He stammered, earning a confused look. “Uhm…No? I just got here.” Mirio smiled. If this is Mirio Togata, who did he just hand his quirk off to?

All Might paled in horror.

“One for All acquired. You can drop the disguise, Chameleah.” The boy said as he entered the nearest alley way. “Roger that.” A voice chimed from the other side of the line. The boy poofed to a smaller size, blonde hair turning green and blue eyes shifting to a rounder shape.

Izuku smirked as he met up with the green haired girl who had successfully distracted Mirio long enough. “I’ll repay you for your services in time. First and foremost, we need a new hiding spot. I’m sure the Number One Hero is going to have a heart attack when we reunite.” He muttered as Chameleah trailed behind him. “How did you know All Might’s quirk could be given anyways? You never really explained that part.” She asked as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. Izuku smiled as he looked back at her.

“He told me himself.”
