I’m going to have to cut back my online presence a bit-I know this means there are some great asks I won’t get to (also, some truly terrible ones, at this point in my life I do not have the spare energy for “Thanks for taking an interest in red culture!  No, I’ve never engaged in cannibalism.” type responses.)  

I’m having a baby, I want to engage in a deeper study of Cenemi, and I will be preparing for a series of assessments as I prepare for whatever comes next (My cousin works in aquaculture, Shrimp’s elder brother is a construction worker, and my mother is the kind of teacher who sits on curriculum committees, so...).   It feels really strange to turn down so much work, but at this point I literally don’t have time for anything other than family, my own art or preparing for colony life.

And so, on my way out, a confession. 

There was a particular video game company that once hired me to do some music for a planned expansion and they were the worst. Expected me to read minds, gave me tight deadlines and then wouldn’t give me feedback for weeks afterwards, didn’t pay me on time.  It quickly became clear that I was never going to work with them again.  Getting fired would have been a relief.  

And there was this one character who was just...if there was a character reds would headcanon as a secret red, it would be them.  Magician from elsewhere, evasive about their past, lots of sorrowful gazing into the sunset.  

So I put little musical cues from red traditionals all through their battle theme. And the more they annoyed me the ‘worse’ I made it.  And they never noticed.  It’s all still there.

So. It seems that it has now been long enough that I can end my mandated social media silence and confirm that I have been working at the Voan Embassy in Miolee.

One of the terms of them letting me take the job was that I wouldn't post anything identifiable about it on social media, given my past indiscretions.

Everything I've posted in the last couple of years has been approved by our lovely PR yellow. [Who is reading this right now, obviously]. The ambassador also threatened that if I did anything embarrassing they would have me thrown into the sea far from land, and abuse diplomatic immunity to get away with it. (I'm like 50% sure they were joking).  

Anyway, it seems that it has now been long enough, and the wider political climate has changed enough, that I'm no longer considered totally politically toxic. So I can talk about things more directly.

To be honest, most of what I've been doing isn't very interesting to talk about, a large part of what the embassy does is boring but important stuff around trade. But if anyone wants a long rant about fruit export tariffs ask away.

A few people guessed before but were nice (or indifferent) enough to not say it very publicly. I might post a bit about my thoughts on living as a Voan Blue in Miolee (its fascinating as a political experiment on a number of levels) and feel free to ask questions.

If you're not a redfucker you should change that next time you're in Miolee tbh, I hear their sex workers are better than oranges OR greys.

Last I heard there were no reds in Miolee, and if there were I wouldn’t want to have sex with them any more than I’d want to drink out of the toilet.

You seem to be conflating reds and ex-reds, and I find it frankly disturbing that you seem to be unable to distinguish between pollution and nonpollution. Please get therapy before you hurt someone.

Why not Miolee?

To begin with there’s the permaspring thing in Miolee, which isn’t ideal…

But a lot of the talk about Miolee I’ve been seeing recently is “Miolee is a casteless society with a casteless people! No one is red!!”

I guess you can still call yourself red to yourself? But I can do that anywhere if being red doesn’t mean anything because reds aren’t recognized as existing anymore. People are going to think I’m mentally ill or something either way.

… it sounds kind of silly now that I’m writing it out, but I start feeling very kind of anxious when things change unless I know exactly how they’re going to change beforehand. If I don’t know what I’m doing and when I’m supposed to do it I start to feel very bad. My goal is to not feel very bad.

I don’t feel like stacking “suddenly not red” and “suddenly in a new country that doesn’t even function the same way” is going to do anything for my goal of “not feeling very bad.”

I am in Miolee! 

I am staying with an internet friend, and she is just as lovely in person as online! Everyone seems so comfortable with each other here, it’s amazing.

They’re letting the boat go!  They are going to sail the rest of the way to Miolee!  Isel has personally paid for a Mioleen decontamination facility right by the harbor so they can be cleaned there and Miolee is granting them citizenship.  I’m so relieved.

Obviously, it’s good that Miolee exists as a place for reds to live that is relatively safe for them.

And, surprise, I think I tentatively endorse the weird caste abolition experiment. It’s not going to be good for the Mioleen, but if they want to try it, this is an appropriate opportunity to do so. It’s a small country made up of immigrants who understand what they’re getting into, unbuoyed by incidental wealth or positive international relations. I sympathize with those who are going to be hurt by it, (it’s not like they had the choice between Miolee and a more caste-realist red homeland,) but if they really want to try...

Why do you think reds enjoy hurting people?

Because they kidnap children and lunge at policegreys and start killing people even when we’re sending them to Trash-olee to be cleaned.

And they probably hate clean castes since people kill them and stuff and they have to do gross jobs.

Plus why would they spend so much time doing that stuff if they didn’t like it.

This is not good anon hate. Not just morally bad, but ineffective. As much as I hate the idea of giving tips on sending anon hate--

The concept of Miovay, while upsetting, is not going to send me into paroxysms of rage. You have to put a bit more effort in. For example:
