Aste.rius - Headcanon - Thes.eus

Aste.rius’s thoughts around, and bond to, The.seus are very engrained and unmoving because of the experiences he’s had with Thes.eus.

Before he comes to Elys.ium and finds out about The.seus’s history after the Mino.taur’s death, all Aste.rius knows about The.seus are these things (some of which are based on discussions and canon with @theseys ‘s Thes.eus - who is my main the.seus)”

- These.us was one of very few people who saw him as an intelligent being - believing the words of Aria.dne and trying to help.

- These.us tried to calm him down and find alternatives before ultimately killing the frenzied Aste.rius to protect himself and the other people who were sent in. Aste.rius hated what the starvation and entrapment caused in him. Thes.eus freed those people and freed him from his prison.

- After The.seus’s own death, the man came into Ere.bus and waded through danger to find him. He had bargained with Ha.des and meant that Ast.erius was brought to Ely.sium and given a life he felt he didn’t deserve.

- The.seus defended Ast.erius’s honour against those in Ely.sium who thought of him as a monster. He also defended Aste.rius against their own self-hating thoughts with the sheer magnitude of The.seus’s confidence and pride in him. He helped Ast.erius carve a place in Ely.sium for himself.

- He taught him everything about honour, honourable combat, performing for an audience and many aspects of human life.

Now there are a few key ways that Aste.rius’s thoughts on Thes.eus changed:

1) When he learnt about him abandoning Aria.dne on Naxos. Aria.dne was the second person to care for him (the first being his mother). She came to visit him, sent him gifts and spoke with him like he was a normal child/person. In Ely.sium he also understands the loyalty to one’s family too. He loves her very very much and will defend her honour when she is not there to defend it herself. To hear that he hurt his sister (even without knowing all of the details about her death etc) hurts him greatly. It’s only after discussion with The.seus and learning of Thes.eus’s great guilt that he is able to move past it.

2) Some of the things Thes.eus did whilst alive are not acceptable, Aste.rius knows that. Aste.rius himself did horrible things to people and he understands that not everyone would wish him to be in Ely.sium because of that. He respects that the people affected will have views of Theseus (or himself) based on that and while he disagrees with some things they say about him, he understands why they say it and why they are steadfast in those opinions (plus with Thes.eus’s general personality he understands the guy is annoying to some). He will not argue against it always, but he will greatly defend Thes.eus when it comes to people saying ‘you shouldn’t put up with him’ etc. Aste.rius sees Thes.eus has guilt for many of these things, which he won’t publicly admit. He sees that guilt as a sign that he has realised his mistakes and wouldn’t do them again.
