This afternoon I used some PTO. Work has been a little stressful lately, so it was nice to start the weekend early. Financially I'm in a position where if I got fired or laid off I could say, "Okay, cool. Nice knowin' ya. No take backs." I don't hate work or my coworkers, but I'm a little weary of all of it at the moment.
Sheila and I started the afternoon playing pickle ball at a newish club in downtown Minneapolis. I like the place. The building used to house a data center. There's a large old photo on one wall, showing people working at terminals in front of large computers. Thanks for making me think of work! But I quickly got over that.
Sheila plays fairly often there; I just go with her on a guest pass from time to time. She said the intermediate leagues have some Karens. Today we played in the rec league. The people were wonderful. I liked the other players enough that I got to know (and even remember!) their names. Sixteen of us took turns rotating through three courts for almost two hours. I'm going to do this more often.
After that we drove over to Hopkins to use a page from our Hop Passport. It's a buy one/get one at a large number of Minnesota Breweries. This little book is a great incentive to try new places.
We were not disappointed in today's brewery. At 2:30 PM on a Friday afternoon the place wasn't yet busy. The manager took some time to chat with us, which we liked. The beer selection (pour your own) was extensive. I tried two small servings and thoroughly enjoyed each. One was a stout made with baker's chocolate, caramel and dried fruits then infused with bourbon infused oak. Would definitely get it again. Sheila had a pear cider she really liked.
The kitchen was (figuratively) on fire. We split a piadina sandwich. Often we share at restaurants, so we don't get overly full. This flatbread sandwich with burrata, pesto, prosciutto, salami, artichoke and olive relish, and arugula was so good I came close to ordering a second one -- just for myself. We watched some pizzas come out of the huge oven. I thought about getting one to go. But I avoided gluttonous tendencies and arrived home not feeling gross from eating too much.
Today it's cold, damp and gray outside. For me this is terrific napping weather. Even better after drinking beer at lunch. Seeing these three lined up confirmed for me that a nap was going to happen. (Only one of them stayed on the bed for the nap.)

INDY Daily: Peaceful Demonstrations In Raleigh
It’s Monday, April 19
Just one week left to nominate your favorite local businesses in the INDY's Best of the Triangle for 2021!  Where’s the best pizza?  Who’s the best OBGYN? What’s the best reason to live in the Triangle?
Nominate your favorites now! Top four finalists make it to the finals.
Good morning, readers.
You’ll hear or read about demonstrations that took place in downtown Raleigh last night and this weekend, following vigils honoring the memories of young people recently killed by police in Brooklyn Center, near Minneapolis, and Chicago (Daunte Wright, 20, and Adam Toledo, 13, respectively).
I live in downtown Raleigh and saw some of the marches. On Sunday, the demonstration of around 100 people or so ended before 9:30 p.m.
I was not reporting in any kind of capacity for my job.
That said, I would characterize what I saw of the demonstrations as restrained and peaceful.
A network news helicopter buzzed over the building I live in for more than an hour last evening. There was a substantial law enforcement presence patrolling the streets from my view. There was disruption to essentially non-existent traffic by protesters. Damage to property looked to be minimal.
Our staff photographer, Jade Wilson, captured some images from the Sunday vigil and subsequent march. We’ll share their photos with you in the paper this week.
Thanks for reading.

Orange County
UNC system schools won't require students to get vaccinated against COVID-19 before returning to campuses in the fall, according to Mimi Chapman, chairperson of the faculty.
"Chapman said there has been no specific public health guidance for requiring vaccines, and the System — as a state entity — does not believe it has the legal authority to do so. Current laws define which vaccines may be mandatory, and she said amending those laws would take too long.
Additionally, Chapman said there is concern that enrollment in System schools will decrease and "vaccine hesitancy" will rise if vaccinations become a requirement. But she said the Faculty Executive Committee will regularly meet over the summer and closely monitor the issue.
"Certainly as more and more campuses across the country move to require vaccines, and new guidance comes out, this conversation may change," Chapman said. "But that is what the position is at the moment."
Durham County
The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the case of a man who died Thursday night while he was being booked into the Durham County jail. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, is at least the third person to have died in custody since the outset of the COVID pandemic just over a year ago.

This is the interview with Adrienne that is teased in that Mankato punk blog I talked about awhile ago.
Green Day frontman's wife remembers Mankato
By Amanda Dyslin
The Free Press
July 01, 2009 04:38 pm
— Adrienne Nesser, living in Mankato in her early 20s, had a long-distance friendship and flirtation with a guy so interested in her, he and his band planned tours around Minnesota just so he could see her.
Green Day wasn’t famous at the time. In Adrienne’s own words, they were just another band she had seen a couple of times in the Cities.
They were both also seeing other people. But there was something pretty powerful that must have connected them over a distance of thousands of miles. There had to be. Otherwise, she never would have agreed to leave her home state of Minnesota to move to California to be with him.
Just weeks later, they were married July 2, 1994, Adrienne was pregnant with the couple’s first of two sons, and Green Day’s album “Dookie” became a household name. All of this seemed to happen over night.
Finding Adrienne and talking to her about all of this was a big part of our Campaign Green Day mission. (See accompanying story for background.) Today, we accomplish that goal as Adrienne talks to us about life in Mankato, including her favorite Pagliai’s pizza toppings, how quickly her life changed when she headed West, and also the big question we’ve been pursuing for weeks: Would Green Day ever come back to Mankato to play a show?
Free Press: Tell me a little bit about your college experience at Minnesota State University. Were you a studier? A partier? On the student senate?
Adrienne Armstrong: I was a transfer student to MSU. I was at the U of M for a few semesters, then Minneapolis Community College. I was dating my then boyfriend who lived in Mankato, so it seemed a good place to go to finish my degree.
I loved school, especially when I was in the more focused classes of my degree. And I was definitely a partier. I found it easy to balance both. I loved the What’s Up, and for the life of me can’t remember the name of the bar across from Pagliai’s that I absolutely loved. (Square Deal?)
I graduated in 1993, but I had turned in a paper after one of my classes ended, and the professor never posted the grade. I had to call the school to argue the fact. They finally sent my degree in 1996.
FP: Why sociology? What interested you about the subject and what career did you have in mind?
AA: I have always loved the dynamics of social groups, clicks and society classes. It’s what triggered my interest in social justice and being an activist. I really didn’t have any career in mind while going through college. Occasionally, I would think of getting a credential to teach, but it was always a fleeting idea.
FP: You seemed to have a ton of jobs while you were here. Your Mankato friends have listed Pier 1 Imports, the Piercing Pagonda, Pagliai’s and The Jungle among them. Am I missing any? Any favorites?
AA: I really only had a few jobs in Mankato. It was hard for me to find a job because I had dreadlocks and dressed kinda funky. So the first place that took a chance on me was The Jungle and the bowling alley. It was a trip. I really liked working there, and the bowlers warmed up to me.
I worked at Pagliai’s all through college, and that was super fun. I worked with lots of my friends and the pizza was awesome. I worked at Pier 1 after I graduated. I was a manager there. I loved that job. I was hired at the very beginning; we put the store together from the ground up. The people I worked with were fun, and I loved running the store. I remember unloading a truck full of merchandise with 70 below windchills. The whole town was shut down. Good times!
FP: Do you have any favorite moments in Mankato? Any night or event or time that really stands out for you when you think about your college years?
AA: My entire experience of living in Mankato was fantastic. I loved living there. It was a small town with such a heart. Camping in our friends T-PEE, the festivals in Sibley Park, tubing in the storm drains, biking, which seemed, at the time, the biggest hill to campus, and the really cool friends/people I hung out with.
FP: I read you met Billie Joe in 1990 at a show in Minneapolis. Had you heard his music before that show? How famous would you say Green Day was at the time?
AA: I met Green Day for the first time at a house party in Dinkytown. A friend of mine invited me to a party on the Fourth of July. So I went with my boyfriend at the time to check out the bands.
I saw a couple songs, then we left to watch fireworks. The next day they played The Varsity. I ended up going to that show, too. My friend, Erica, introduced me to the guys that day. I wouldn’t say they were famous.
I mean, I went to a lot of shows ... saw a lot of bands. They were just another band. This was the first time they played Minnesota.
FP: Was it difficult having a relationship long-distance when Billie Joe was on tour after you’d first met?
AA: Billie Joe and I were friends first. And never tried to be exclusive. I was in a dwindling relationship that was off and on. And I know he dated many other girls. We grew over time. After I graduated from college, I finalized the break-up with my longtime boyfriend and was single for almost a year. During that time, I saw Billie Joe a few times, but it wasn’t until I moved out to California that things solidified pretty quickly.
FP: I couldn’t get anyone to clear this up for me: Was it because of you that Green Day started coming to Mankato and playing shows? Or was Mankato a part of their early touring locations?
AA: Umm ... probably. : )
He booked a mini tour that started in Sioux Falls, S.D., and then came through Mankato, Minneapolis, to Beloit, Wis. So yes, to see me. Very Romantic ... .
FP: Talking to people around here now, it seems like the band was playing shows everywhere here in town: garages, basements and that show on a farm near St. Peter. Was it really like that? Or was it just a few shows that just sort of popped up when they happened to be here?
AA: Green Day always played anywhere, any time. So when they were in town as a band they would play garages, basements, street corners and even that farm on top of spools. Billie Joe came to Mankato a few times on his own for visits as well.
FP: Did you have any idea in the early days of your relationship that Green Day was going to hit the big time?
AA: I really didn’t think of it. I just knew that I loved the band and their music. They were so fun to watch live. ... But it wasn’t in my thoughts at all what their future held. I remember being with a friend in Minneapolis, and we were watching MTV, and their “Basket Case” video came on. It freaked us out. We were like “Oh My God, how crazy!! They are on TV!”
FP: A few people who knew you said your decision to move out West to marry Billie Joe happened quickly. It was like one minute you were here and then you were gone. Was that how you remember it, too? Were you scared?
AA: Billie Joe had asked me to move out to California and give us a try. I was Totally scared. But super excited. It was a new adventure, and I was ready. I had a big garage sale — sold as much as I could, including my favorite blue creepers, packed a mini U-Haul and drove out with my 15-year-old brother and my friend, Holly, who was already making the trip. I figured I’d give it the summer and see what happened.
FP: It seems as if shortly after you were married “Green Day” and “Dookie” became household names. What was that time like for you? Was it strange to suddenly be living the life of a celebrity? Is it still strange?
AA: I was out two weeks and Billie Joe asked me to marry him. It was crazy. But it was a crazy time for us — and I said yes. It was a whirlwind. I was pregnant, and his band was everywhere. It was completely overwhelming. We were just trying to navigate it all — it was a bumpy ride for sure. It took years for us to find our footing. ... But sometimes I think it was all those trials that made us stronger and brought us to where we are today.
FP: What’s your life like now?
AA: It feels pretty normal for me now. I am a mother of two amazing kids. So I am busy with school, sports and all their activities. And Billie Joe’s life keeps us busy. It’s never boring ... that’s for sure.
FP: What are your roles at Atomic Garden and Adeline Records? Does that keep you pretty busy?
AA: My friend and I are partners in Atomic Garden. She’s a very good friend who is amazing and patient. I work as much as I can when I am in town, and we do all the buying together. We have an incredible manager who does most of the day-to-day stuff. She allows us to live our lives and still have such a beautiful store. I don’t do anything with Adeline Records anymore. I worked the label for years when it first started. But I have moved on. : )
FP: Do you still keep in contact with anyone from the Mankato area?
AA: I keep in touch with a few people. But sadly lost touch with a lot of them.
FP: And now for the $65,000 question. What do you think our chances are of getting Green Day to come back to Mankato to play a show some time? Are small markets like ours pretty much out of the question at this point?
AA: I would love to imagine Green Day playing Mankato again. I don’t think it’s out of the question. They still play small clubs and stuff. They are still the same in that way — they will play anywhere. It’s more just the logistics of it all.
FP: How about you? Could we get you to come back some time? How about a big party catered by Pagliai’s?
AA: I would LOVE to get back to Mankato for a visit. So let’s keep in touch and make this happen! It’s been too long since I had a Pagliai’s pizza with onion, green olive and extra sauce. Cheryl Rueda made me the BEST pizzas!!!!!

Lowry Hill Meats, 21 October 2018
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s October in Minneapolis, which means a number of things depending on who you talk to. Some people refer to it as pumpkin spice season, people who like to shit on other people’s fun talk shit about pumpkin spice season, people over nine years old marvel at the way leaves change color like that’s some shit they’ve never seen before on an annual basis, errbody in the club gettin on Tinder for cuffing season, and scarf enthusiasts are losing their goddamned nut over their time to shine, but mostly, it just means shitty, pissy weather, night and day.    When it’s not windy, it’s raining; when it’s not raining, it’s just gloomy; when it’s not gloomy, it’s windy; and when it’s not some combination of these bullshit elements driving me to - Wait, did they say the words “trap house jazz” on NPR? Whatever, when it’s not windy, raining, gloomy, shitty, pissy, or some combination of those, it’s fucking freezing and the landlord doesn’t know to turn the fucking heat on. “But, Charlie,” you say, “the leaves change color.”    Say that shit to me one more time and I’ll strangle your ass. I swear to fucking god.    Anyway, that’s just why there hasn’t been a Sandwich Bully for three weeks; it’s just been too shitty to go outside. You know what I did yesterday? It was 42°F, you think I conducted any urban exploring in 42°F? (That’s 5½°C... That’s right, I’m flexing my alt-code muscles.) I baked a frozen pizza (chicken pesto, if you’re curious, and it was meh) and watched a couple Shane Black movies.    You know what I did last weekend? No, I’m seriously asking. I don’t remember what the fuck I did. It probably involved staying inside because it was shitty, gloomy, damp, pissy, and nut-shrinking cold outside and you’re right I’m angry, we got shorted on our summer this year, we had a blizzard in May. That shit aint right. Why did the settlers think establishing a major metropolitan hub up in this motherfucker was a good idea? It’s cold all the time, mosquitoes are the size of cats, gnats everywhere, fucking winter lasts eight months, everybody’s obese because of that, suicide rates seven thousand percent higher than the global average, really!!    But today it’s 55°F, sunny, not a cloud in the sky. I had to take to my bike and get out and just be out. And then I realized that I hadn’t done a Sandwich Bully in a while, so while Ophira Eisenberg wrapped up Ask Me Another, I started Googling delis and then just sandwiches and I narrowed it down to a few choices:    Broder’s Deli (next to last one in that link and frequently mentioned in our halllowed halls)    Lowry Hill Meats    Northbound Smokehouse (top one in that link)
I also considered just walking to Icehouse, where I never go, because they have a Reuben that - and check the fuck out of this shit out - consists of pastrami, “pickled cabbage”, fontina, and remoulade on rye. There are so many places to start there that I kind of want to hold off on my bloviating over the theory and principles of the Reuben until I actually eat one of these damned things and seeing, “Could it work?” (Preview of my own thoughts on the subject: If they can’t commit to just sauerkraut and have to go with “pickled cabbage”... Uh... Nuh.) †    Now, going to Broder’s would be fine and dandy but it wouldn’t be anything to write about because I can’t keep praising them. And the more I thought about Northbound, the more I didn’t want to go in, alone, get spotted by neighborhood regulars taking a picture of my food and have to explain to them what a blog is nor did I want to wait, so I went to Lowry Hill after a ride around Cedar Lake, went in, asked young Jason Priestly looking homie if he recommended the mysteriously titled “French Exit” which is really just your choice of meat and some fancy cheese with mustard and aioli on a baguette or the Turkey Melt which, you guessed it, is a grilled cheese with turkey on it, here billed identically on the website and in the physical space (psst! Will every other deli in Minneapolis catch up to that? Please and Thank You.) as turkey (obvs), house made American cheese (you read that right, hell, I read that right), aioli, and mustard on brioche.    Jason Priestly tells me the turkey melt, if he has to pick between the two, nothing wrong with the French Exit, it’s just that he likes hot sandwiches and the French Exit is cold. I say let’s do that and grab a Mexican Coke.    Wow, that’s kind of a catchy line. Take it a different way and I could employ that in multiple situations. “Let’s do that and grab a Mexican Coke.” Yeah. I like the way that sounds. Going to put that on a t-shirt, man.
LET’S DO THAT AND GRAB A MEXICAN COKE
Look at that. That’s US$24.95 on Etsy, baby. That’s a moneymaker.    ANYhoo, after I remind you I exist and drag you along on this journey, I’m sure you’re wondering how this sandwich tasted, especially since last time I went there, I disparaged them a little as all I could taste on their roast beef was vinegar.    Well, I want to make a musical reference. Will this work?
youtube
Get it? Because they’re redeemed, see, and - Wh- No? No good? Not working for you? Fuck you, then.    So the turkey itself was I want to say oven roasted as opposed to smoked as it was perfectly juicy and they seasoned it just right, to get rid of that cardboard turkey taste. The cheese was mildly tangy and didn’t have the same sodiumtastic flavor of, say, Kraft Singles. It paired nicely with the turkey. But the real socially progressive third party candidate embattled by their controversial past in this key battleground state during a midterm election whose discourse has largely been dominated by muck raking and accusations (and acknowledgments) of scandal is, surprisingly, the sweet coarse ground mustard paired with the aioli.    This is a study in the condiments steering the flavor of the sandwich away from just a hot turkey & american, though these were quite good turkey and american, to something semisweet and complex. However, I will note that I didn’t find the sandwich complete until I added the seeded jalapeño slices on the sandwich, giving it a mild kick.    Now, was this anything to lose my mind over? Nah but I was pleasantly surprised. Would I pay nine dollars for this again? Mm, like if I was on a date but I remember where I’m from: I’m from being broke. So twelve dollars for a sandwich and a pop? That’s not something I want to make a habit out of. But considering they probably slaughtered this turkey and they actually made their American cheese and their aioli and their mustard (and Cecil’s charges you the same price for shipped in and say they just don’t have the space to do that themselves), that’s the price you pay for - I hate to use this word - artisanal. That’s what’s going on there: Artisanal meat craft. Their meat case? Has actual parts of animals in it. Not smoked and wrapped in plastic, no. Just bare-assed parts of animals. Pink and red flesh on white bones. It’s the real deal.    It’s just too bad they don’t have kielbasa.    Go give them your money. †  Update, 27 October 2018: Icehouse doesn’t have a Reuben anymore for reasons unknown. They tried to sell me a pastrami and egg sandwich instead and I was all, “Nah.”

Forget weaving your way through a crowded noisy club to talk to a cute girl… just sit back in your pants, put your feet up and get swiping. Here are the best apps to get laid in 2020.
So what are the best adult dating apps and how quickly can you get laid?
That’s the real question we all want to know.
We’ve all been there… it’s Friday night, you have no plans and you really just want to stay in with a pizza and a beer, whilst you fall asleep with Breaking Bad playing on Netflix.
BUT… you also want to get laid. Ugh, decisions decisions.
Banging that overused Fleshlight to your favourite pornstar on PornHub just isn’t cutting it anymore. You need that REAL booty son!
No worries.
Let me introduce you to “half night stands”
Oh yes, gone are the days of trawling through a bar at 2am, drunk, hoping that you can still spit good enough game to have a girl come back to yours for sex.
Dating on logansport. All you need to do now is fire up a hookup app, upload some mugshots, wait a few minutes and BOOM… girls… lots of girls, all wanting the same thing as you. Quick sex.
Now you might be thinking “But adult dating apps are full of creepers and weirdos”.
Meh… WRONG!
If you know how to use them properly, they are full of opportunities young man.
Ok, enough with the waffle. Let’s get onto the good stuff.
The best apps to get laid in 2020
Some are free, some are paid. All are geared towards getting you laid. Yes I rhymed that on purpose. Enjoy!
NOTE: Apps are great, but adult dating sites are better. You should check out this list of the top adult dating sites if you’re serious about getting laid, without having to scroll through hundreds of basic bitches ;)
1. Tinder
The most popular local hookup app by far.
Price: Free (membership available at $14.99 per month)
Undoubtedly the most popular casual dating apps out there today, Tinder is the perfect place to find a quick hookup. While it’s creators probably intended the app to be used for connecting people for dates, its casual nature has made it a go-to destination for sex.
You simply swipe right on the profile of a woman you like and swipe left on those you don’t. If the woman also swipes right on your profile, you get connected.
Why It’s Awesome
The number of members currently on Tinder really increases your chances of finding someone to hook up with. So many people use the app for casual dating that you’re bound to find someone quickly. All it takes is a quick swipe, an exchange of information, and you’ll be meeting up in no time.
Some Downsides
The biggest advantage of using the app is also its biggest downfall. Because so many people use it, you’re bound to come across someone you know. While that might not be a huge issue for some, it can lead to some awkward situations. Of course, you can always swipe left and pretend that you never saw them.
Or improve your Tinder game (if you want to get better).
Top Dating Apps In My Area 2020
Tumblr media
2. Pure
Price: Free (membership available at $8.99 per month)
Pure is one of the top hookup apps because it forgoes the standard formalities and cuts right to the chase. This app is all about casual sex and anonymity.
You simply upload your picture, fill out a profile, and find a match. There’s a one-hour chat limit, so you’d better make a quick connection. After that, your profile and picture are deleted.
Why It’s Awesome
Quick anonymous sex. Is there anything else to say? There’s no worry about someone finding your profile because it’s deleted after an hour. You find what you’re looking for and you’re done, all in private.
Some Downsides
Because the process is so quick, you may find some issues going through potential dates. The app is all about speed and finding someone now, so you have to go through the candidates fast. Not only that the user base can sometimes be flaky in areas that are not busy. So if you live in a part of town that is lacking in people or a small city, then forget it.
3. Blendr
Tumblr media
Cool app with some great features.
Price: Free (in-app purchases at $2.99 each)
If you want to find someone to hook up with near you, Blendr is the way to go. It uses your GPS location to find people in the general vicinity.
You can find someone in the same street or building and start chatting them up. It’s much quicker than talking to every girl at a bar. With the app, you can see the girls that are looking for the same thing you are.
Why It’s Awesome
Blendr is like a moving social network. Everywhere you go, you’re met with a different group of women. Your location updates frequently. You can even search the app while you’re in a cab just to see who’s around.
Some Downsides
While it was intentionally created for hookups, many people also use it as a dating app. You may find yourself talking to someone looking for a committed relationship rather than a casual date.
4. OKCupid
Price: Free (in-app purchases at $0.79 each minimum)
OKCupid is one of the most popular dating and hookup websites. They also have an app that connects people very quickly. While it is used as a serious dating site, there are ways to connect with people looking for the same thing.
The app will show you who you’ve connected with and how many of them are near you.
Why It’s Awesome
If you are blunt about what you’re looking for, you can find someone to hook up with fairly easily. The app has a questionnaire where you can express your motives up front. It even allows you to filter potential matches looking for casual sex only.
Some Downsides
Because it operates as a standard dating site, you have to be wary of who you’re talking to. You may match with someone who’s looking for something a bit more serious. This is why it’s important to be upfront on your profile and questionnaire from the get go.
5. Tingle
Not great, but worth a try in a busy city.
Price: Free
Tingle is one of the best free hookup apps for guys and gals serious about sex. It uses GPS to find people around you, but that GPS is cloaked until you’re ready to give some information.
You can see who wants to hook up near you and give them a “wink.” If they reciprocate that wink, you can view their profile. The great thing about the app is that many members use tantalising pictures on their profile.
Why It’s Awesome
Tumblr media
There’s nothing subtle about this app. It’s all about sex, and that’s pretty evident from the naked profile pictures. Another great thing is its security and privacy. Everything is done in-app and can be performed anonymously until real information is shared.
Some Downsides
Unfortunately, Tingle isn’t as popular as other alternatives. It’s pretty active in bigger cities. However, you may be pressed to find a lot of potential hookups if you’re in a smaller town.
6. Down
Price: Free
Ever want to see who’s down to hook up on Facebook? Down goes through your friend list as well as their friends and allows you to let people know you want to hook up. It can be done anonymously. If they want to hookup, you’ll get a notification. If not, no worries. They’ll never know who offered.
Why It’s Awesome
Who hasn’t browsed Facebook and thought about hooking up? It’s one of the best hookup apps because it goes through people you know are real. They’re not complete strangers, but people you may know well or at the very least ran into at some point or another. It’s a nice and easy to use app though, as soon as they user base increases, this will be a contender for sure.
Some Downsides
The app goes through your entire list of friends, so you may come across people you didn’t even want to think of hooking up with. While not major, it can be uncomfortable to see old friends pop up and even more disappointing if they match you!
Top Dating Apps In My Area List
7. Whiplr
Tumblr media
Like your fetishes and kinks? You’ll love this then.
Price: Free or Subscription
Let your inner freak show with Whiplr. It’s all about finding people who have the same kinks as you do. Upon download, you answer a questionnaire about what turns you on.
You’re then matched with people that have the same fetishes as you. You can chat and send pics all in the privacy of the app. You can even take away a pic from their phone if you change your mind.
Why It’s Awesome
It’s never been easier to find someone to share your fetishes with. There’s no need for uncomfortable conversations or weeding through potential hookups. With Whiplr, you get deep into the nitty-gritty from the very beginning. Just find a match, meet up, and have all the fun you’ve always wanted with someone who shares the same interests.
Some Downsides
While the app is technically free, use of the service is limited unless you purchase a subscription. It’s certainly usable in the free version, but the paid alternative provides much more options.
5 proven tips to get more matches
The reason that some guys find it difficult actually getting any decent matches on these apps is because they’re playing the game all wrong.
Here are some quick tips that have been proven to help you become a casual dating pro and get more matches…
1. Get some professional photos
Top Dating Apps In My Area Free
Not all of your photos need to be professional, but at least 3 do. The reason is because you need to show you at your very best. Pro photographers can help you do that. So hire one for an hour, get a few different outfits and get a bunch of photos of you laughing, looking away from the camera, doing sports etc.
2. Use hacks
You should be experimenting with different hacks, like posing with your dog or a cute animal (every girl loves animals dude, c’mon) applying filters to your photos, using Photoshop to experiment with graphics like “Tinder’s hot guy of the day”.
3. Don’t use grainy photos
Old grainy photos are an immediate turnoff, they show that you don’t care. Even if you’re using a photo from 5 years ago that you consider to be your best photo, throw it away, it’s no longer relevant.
4. Don’t upload group shots
Group shots are one of the most annoying photos you can upload to a dating app. Not only does the girl need to guess which one is you, she might actually be disappointed if you’re not the guy she’s most attracted to in that shot! Brutal.
5. Show off your body tastefully
If you have a good bod, then show it off. But listen, this isn’t a magazine cover. Don’t over do it. Maybe show it offer as you’re getting out of the pool or with a shirt covering up most of it. Just make it look like it wasn’t intended, this will drive women crazy.
Common questions answered
Do dating apps work?
For the best looking men, yes they do. The an average or even ugly guy, no they don't. We live in a fickle society, women are interested in hot guys, just like men are interested in the hottest girls.
How many people use dating apps?
It's been reported that that between 23 and 26 million people in the US are using some kind of dating or hookup app to meet other people for sex.
How do dating apps make money?
Mainly through ads or subscriptions. Tinder for example use a subscription service to give you access to their premium features, which give your profile more exposure.
Why are dating apps bad?
Well, because they distort your view of reality. You will pass on someone in an app, that you may otherwise like if you met them in person. Also, it's very easy to reject someone in an app, so you become desensitised to people's feelings.
Quick Warning About Dating Apps
Dating apps are easy to use and convenient, for some even addictive. But the scary side of dating online is that the girl (or even man) on the other side of the screen may not be who they say they are. Here’s how to tell if you’re being catfished.
Conclusion: Are these really the best apps to get laid?
To sum up, there are more than enough apps to keep you busy night after night. Heck you can even give up approaching women in person if you really wanted to, but we all know that’s bad for game.
Each app has its ups, downs, and features that make it unique. But yes, these are the best apps to get laid for a reason. They’ve proven to be useful for guys all around the world.
With access to a huge number of girls at your fingertips, why go out and try to get lucky the hard way? Modern dating is all about getting straight to the point with apps. You simply log on, find a match, and bang.
Warning: It’s been proven that using dating apps an hinder your success in the real world with women, so make sure you don’t use them exclusively. Sure, you can find easy girls to get laid with. But don’t settle for those girls if you want a long term relationship.
So what are you waiting for? Go get laid dude. Read through our most popular guides, they are the best training for pua’s.

Hamm’s Club
The official* Minneapolis Hamm’s beer fan club is in session. Basically it’s a lot like the Pizza Club from Home Movies. It’s simply a time for people to enjoy Hamm’s in solidarity with one another. Any time two or more souls are gathered together with the purpose of drinking Hamm’s, it’s considered a club meeting. Here are the club rules:
1. You can talk about Hamm’s Club. Seriously, it’s not a secret or anything. Feel free to spread the word among like-minded people, and remind others when you are sharing a dirty thirty together, that they are now members of an honorable organization.
2. That’s it. (this one isn’t an actual rule)
Now go forth and share the good news!

Trip Sponsorship!
That you’re even thinking about this is amazing and wonderful. If you can’t afford to help, that’s okay--Jet and I can make this happen. But if you’d love to wish us well for anything either of us have done for you over the years, or you just want to have something on this trip you love attributed to you, or if you’re just like, “wow both their patreons are paused in March, rough” then we wanted to offer a list of what we’re doing.
We’ll also be keeping a travel journal, for free online! Follow us through the country, as we switch off sharing our thoughts. (you can donate while we’re on the road, too)
And we want to thank you! Here’s the different thanks we’ve come up with:
IMPORTANT NOTE: IF YOU WANT TO SPONSOR SOMETHING SPECIFIC, PLEASE NOTE IT IN YOUR KO-FI MESSAGE. IF NOT, IT WILL BE PUT IN THE GENERAL FUND.
Sponsor anything at all:  get a thank you post with picture! Live dispatch from the road.
5 coffees or more: postcard, sent on the road (and post)
10 coffees or more: admission to "live chat at the langham" a two hour chat during our fancy night in a high end Chicago hotel (and postcard)
20 coffees or more: a gift from the road, to be sent when we get home (and everything else)

In fact, if it hadn’t been for getting to spend time visiting family and friends and making new friends, especially during my 39-day cross-country road trip, I don’t know how I would have dealt with the rest of the BS in this post-Truth reality-TV existence. Thank you, thank you, thank you and may we all find peace, fulfillment and meaning in the coming year. Images used in the video can be viewed in gallery below the credits. Enjoy.

Splash Down at Top Waterparks Across the Midwest
Courtesy of The Points Guy by Kristine Hansen
Orlando is far from the only place to find cool waterparks, and warm weather isn’t required for a good splash in the water. Across the Midwest, there are cozy hotels with indoor waterparks that are perfect for when the weather isn’t quite warm enough to swim outside, and there are also outdoor waterslides and wave pools for summer.
Check out these waterparks in the Heartland, from the country’s oldest in the waterpark capital of America to one inside the Mall of America in the Twin Cities to a tiki-inspired park in Rapid City, South Dakota. Some  of these waterparks have on-site hotels, but, if not, we have points hotels to recommend nearby as well.
Noah’s Ark Water Park (Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin)
The Wisconsin Dells, the “waterpark capital of America,” sits 45 minutes north of Madison, Wisconsin, and, as you might expect, offers many places to have fun getting wet. Like, Noah’s Ark Waterpark, a true original open since 1979. It’s America’s largest waterpark, featuring 51 slides, including Raja, which opened last year and is the world’s largest King Cobra dual slide. There are also two wave pools and two lazy rivers. (Regular tickets are $39, $29 for those under 48 inches and over 55 years old. Save $5 with online booking. Admission is free for those under 36 inches.)

Since there’s no on-park hotel, use your Hilton points to stay nearby at Hilton Garden Inn Wisconsin Dells or the brand-new Hampton Inn & Suites at Wisconsin Dells Lake Delton (reward stays at each range from 23,000 points to 50,000 Hilton Honors points per night).
Kalahari (Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin)
Rocking a African-wild-animals theme, Kalahari (a hotel with its own indoor-outdoor waterpark) features surfing on the FlowRider ($30 per person for 60 minutes for two to 10 people; private rentals start at $250 for 60 minutes). Also popular are the lessons in becoming a mermaid and how to fight off a (fake) shark attack ($35 for one to two people for 30 minutes, $30 each for three to five people for 60 minutes), as well as thrill-seeker rides like the Swahili Swirl and a virtual-reality experience. Build in adult R&R at Spa Kalahari, too, or amp up your stay by booking a private outdoor bungalow.
Kalahari resorts are also in Sandusky, Ohio; Round Rock, Texas; and the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Rates start at $269 for a double room for a date in June 2019 with access to waterpark included. If you prefer to purchase a day pass to the waterpark, those start at about $45 per day.

Consider: Holiday Inn Express Wisconsin Dells (from 35,000 IHG Rewards Club points) Hampton Inn & Suites at Wisconsin Dells, Lake Delton (23,000 to 50,000 Hilton Honors points), Hilton Garden Inn Wisconsin Dells (from 23,000 to0 50,000 Hilton Honors points), Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Wisconsin Dells (from 17,500 Marriott points) and SpringHill Suites by Marriott Wisconsin Dells (from 25,000 Marriott points).
Great Wolf Lodge (Gurnee, Illinois)
This chain of hotel waterparks has a location in Gurnee, a northern suburb of Chicago, near Six Flags Great America (which also has an waterpark). A whopping 10 (yes, 10!) dining and snack venues inside the lodge means your family — even the pickiest eaters — will never go hungry. Great Wolf has 113 slippery attractions, including Coyote Canyon (a four-story slide) and an activity pool called Chinook Cove. We found rates starting at $349 for a double room for a date in June 2019, though off-season dates can be much less expensive (plus resort fee).
Tumblr media

To access this waterpark, you need to be a guest of the hotel, though a limited number of additional wristbands may be purchased from the hotel if you have visitors, at $50 each. To ramp up your earnings, you can book using your Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card to earn 10 miles per dollar when booking at Hotels.com/Venture. (Here’s a peek at the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City.)
Six Flags Great America (Gurnee, Illinois)
Not all Six Flags parks have a waterpark, but this one in Gurnee does. Seventeen attractions that get you wet are a nice compliment to the amusement park’s nostalgic rides like Logger’s Run. Your kid can hang 10 with Surf Rider or scream with delight down the Dive Bomber’s five-story freefall, and the whole family can hang out in the Monsoon Lagoon. (Gate prices start at $77 or $57 for those under 48 inches; children 2 and under are free. Save $25 when booking online at least one day before your trip.)
Tumblr media

Since there’s no hotel on property, stay nearby at Courtyard by Marriott Chicago Waukegan/Gurnee or SpringHill Suites Chicago Waukegan/Gurnee (both are Category 3 hotels within three miles of Six Flags Great America and start at 17,500 points per night).
Venetian Waterpark (Maple Grove, Minnesota)
Flaunting its Venetian theme right down to the streetlamps and building facades, this 25,000-square-foot indoor waterpark (with two waterslides, a toddler area, basketball hoops and floating obstacle course), helps you cash in on IHG Rewards Club points — and you never have to leave the property, since it’s also home to the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Maple Grove/Arbor Lakes (from 35,000 IHG points per night, fourth award night free if you have the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card). Your hotel stay includes admission to the waterpark.
In addition to the waterpark’s concession stand, there is a casual restaurant in the hotel serving a breakfast buffet and family-friendly options like pizza for dinner. Dave & Buster’s is within walking distance. Maple Grove is 18 miles from downtown Minneapolis. Note that the waterpark is open Friday to Sunday most weeks, with additional days available during select weeks.

Surfari Joe’s (Watervliet, Michigan)
Imagine 18,000 square feet of waterpark fun — enough to keep you busy all weekend. On an upper deck above two slides, the Zambezi River Run and Lino’s Lagoon activity pool, the Water Hole Grill & Bar serves up kid-friendly foods and glasses of wine from local vineyards for the adults. Because the connecting hotel, which opened in 2018, is a Fairfield Inn & Suites, you can also redeem Marriott points for your stay. A room with two queen beds starts at 17,500 Marriott points per night, which is a great deal compared to the paid rates than can go north of $200 per night. (Here’s how to earn 100,000 bonus Marriott points until April 24.)
Castaway Bay at Cedar Point (Sandusky, Ohio)
Most people know Sandusky for its outdoor theme park, Cedar Point, but there is also a 38,000-square-foot indoor waterpark with a tropical theme at Castaway Bay. White Adirondack chairs are lined up at the shoreline (lapped by waves!) and provide a comfy spot to keep an eye on the kids as they zip down a tube slide or splash in the pool. A Quaker Steak & Lube on site, a breakfast buffet and a deli, make meal time easy.
Castaway Bay has 237 rooms and family suites. Rates were $259 for a double room for a date in June 2019, with an easy-pay option of $43.17 for six payments if you wanted to spread out the cost of the stay.
Tumblr media
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sandusky, where a room with two beds starts at 40,000 IHG Rewards Club points, is just across the bay. This means you could use an annual 40,000 award night available from the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card.
Big Splash Adventure (French Lick, Indiana)
Overnight accommodations at Big Splash Adventure make a visit to this 40,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor waterpark a breeze. If it does get warm out, the retractable roof pops open. Of the 10 attractions, one is adults-only (Palm Cove, a hot tub) and the others are family-friendly. These attractions range from Pirate’s Plunder (a body slide) to Buccaneer Bay, a three-story structure housing 10 platforms and 50 interactive play features. Rates were $199 for a double room with two-day waterpark passes included for a date in June 2019. (Waterpark day passes are available for $24 for those 46 inches and above, $19 for those below 46 inches and seniors 60 years old and over. Children 2 and under are free.)
Tumblr media
(Photo courtesy of Big Splash Adventure)
Nearby points hotels include: Best Western Plus French Lick (from 24,000 points), Days Inn by Wyndham Jasper (15,000 points) and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Jasper (from 15,000 IHG points).
Great Wolf Lodge (Bloomington, Minnesota)
In 2017, the waterpark inside the Mall of America transitioned from its previous ownership (Water Park of America) into the Great Wolf Lodge brand — with a new look after a $30 million renovation. Entirely indoors, there are 11 water activities for all ages, from the zero-depth Cub Paw Pool to the four-story Wolf Rider Wipeout. Eight restaurants on site take care of the hungry. There is a climbing wall and ropes course (in Great Wolf Adventure Park) for older kids, and a bowling alley. Rates were $249 for a double room for a test date in June 2019.
Just like at the Great Wolf Lodge in Illinois, you can book your stay via Hotels.com to earn rewards, but you generally must stay at the Great Wolf Lodge in order to play in the waterpark.
Raging Rivers Waterpark (Mandan, North Dakota)
Spanning four acres, Raging Rivers Waterpark is entirely outdoors, with new attractions added on a regular basis. Four years ago, the Aqua Play area debuted, with about 60 interactive games and toys in the water, such as water canyons and pull ropes. Two tube slides and two speed slides are joined by an 800-foot-long lazy river. Concessions are on site. (Day passes are $15, $12 for kids under 48 inches and seniors 62 and over, and $8 for spectators and nonswimmers. There’s also a special $10 twilight rate from 4pm to 8pm every day. Children 3 years and under are free.)
Tumblr media
(Photo courtesy of Raging Rivers Waterpark )
Points stays nearby include: Radisson Hotel Bismarck (from 38,000 points), Country Inn & Suites by Radisson (from 38,000 Radisson points), Holiday Inn Bismarck (from 20,000 IHG points), Hampton Inn & Suites Bismarck Northwest (24,000 to 40,000 Hilton points) and Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Bismarck South (from 7,500 points)
Splasher’s of the South Seas (Grand Forks, North Dakota)
Connected to Canad Inns, hotel guests receive a reduced price to enter Splasher’s of the South Seas ($9 instead of $23 per person). Within this 40,000-square-foot waterpark, there’s plenty to keep kids of all ages happy, from the East Australian Current (basically a lazy river) to a Kids Play Area in the water to the Rarotonga “cannonbowl” slide for kids with an adrenaline streak. Garbonzo’s is the resident pizza joint, within a family entertainment center with arcade games. Rates were $169 for a double room for a date in June 2019.
For a points stay nearby, consider: Hilton Garden Inn Grand Forks-UND (20,000 to 30,000 points); Hampton Inn & Suites Grand Forks (22,000 to 30,000 points); Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott East Grand Forks (from 12,500 points); Springfield Suites by Marriott Grand Forks (from 12,500 points); Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Grand Forks, ND (from 38,000 points); Staybridge Suites Grand Forks (from 25,000 IHG points); and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Grand Forks (from 30,000 IHG points)
WaTiki Indoor Waterpark & Resort (Rapid City, South Dakota)
This 30,000-square-foot waterpark is connected to hotels including the Fairfield Inn and Suites and the Residence Inn by Marriott Rapid City, which is a Marriott Category 5 property (requiring 35,000 points per night). Rates include free hot breakfast, and there’s a full kitchen in the room to whip up snacks and light meals. At the waterpark is a Starbucks café, a pizza restaurant and Sliders Bar & Grill, alongside water-soaked attractions like Sink Hole, Maui’s Body Slide and a lazy river.
Tumblr media
(Photo courtesy of WaTiki Indoor Waterpark Resort)
Instead of spending 35,000 Marriott points per night, you could also use a Category 1-5 certificate available each year from cards such as the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card or Marriott Bonvoy Business
Tumblr media
American Express® Card.
Castle Rock Resort & Waterpark (Branson, Missouri)
Branson, one of the Midwest’s most popular destinations for family entertainment, is home to this waterpark, which is both indoors (including lap pool and a couple of three-story slides, one of which is a closed tube) and outdoors (open seasonally with a 500-gallon tipping bucket, waterfalls and kiddie pools with rain showers). A 600-foot-long lazy river indoors is an ideal spot to chill on a winter day. Outdoors, you will find a multilevel sundeck filled with places to relax and rest. Rates were $139 for a double room for a date in June 2019.
Tumblr media

Grand Harbor Resort & Waterpark (Dubuque, Iowa)
This whimsical indoor waterpark features a lazy river, two giant whirlpools, rope ladders for kids to climb on and, of course, waterslides. A Tony Roma’s Restaurant and Lounge in the resort might satisfy your food needs, but if not, there are plenty of fast-casual options within the East Dubuque region, including Jimmy John’s and an A&W. Rates were $179 for a double room for a date in June 2019. If you just need a ticket to the waterpark, the rate varies by day, but starts at around $8 to $12 per person.
Nearby points hotels include: Hilton Garden Inn Dubuque Downtown (27,000 to 30,000 points), Hampton Inn Dubuque (22,000 to 30,000 Hilton points), TownePlace Suites by Marriott Dubuque Downtown (from 17,500 points), Holiday Inn Dubuque/Galena (from 25,000 IHG points) and Best Western Plus Dubuque Hotel & Conference Center (from 20,000 points).
Bottom Line
If your family is looking for a waterpark in the Midwest, this list should more than get you started in the right direction, even if you are hoping to travel using your points.
