I'm calling this shelf "fall in transition" because it's still 85 degrees outside, and I'm not quite feeling the pumpkins yet, friends. I also hope it encourages those who may have plastic toys to go ahead and include them in your Montessori home environment! There isn't much in this photo. No Montessori works. No kids. Just a few chairs and an invitation to gather, what I wish to inspire more often in my life and work. While it's nice to get to know more people through social media, I think we're all guilty of spending too much time on devices. In my last blog post, I wrote about the realization that when I'm sharing these moments on Instagram, I might not be fully enjoying them. Are you enjoying your Montessori and non-Montessori moments? Are you taking the opportunity to put the phone down and reach out—to connect in a different way, which is perhaps more real and lasting? I'm happy to see this conversation widening and continuing through our Minimalist Montessori community and others like @montessorion.community. My daughter is in charge of this plant stand. In addition to kid-friendly plants (that can handle some overwatering), it contains her plant watering tray and flower press. At our minimalist Montessori house, holidays don't mean the absence of things. Holidays mean mindfully choosing gifts and activities which are meaningful, sustainable and joyful like dyeing and hunting eggs we can eat later! They also mean following the child, choosing to dye eggs the "old-fashioned" way so our preschooler can participate independently (ie we don't scan Pinterest for our Easter crafts!). #holidays #minimalismwithkids #simpleliving #Montessori #minimalistMontessori

I mentioned the bouncer in a previous post. Instead of the toy bar, we use real-life, baby-friendly objects like the toilet paper holder to engage and entertain! The extra minutes this buys me in the bathroom are worth the cost of toilet paper.
