Another mini comic with Naruto. These 4 pages were inspired by a fanfiction called “come out of the ashes” by SilverStudios5140 on AO3.
The scene depicted here doesn't actually occur in the work, rather it was my imagination how the story could continute afer I read chapter 36. So it's only half a spoiler, for anyone who might be interested to read the story (still, sry for spoilers... ^^').
By the way, this scene plays in the secret base of ROOT. I was lazy with the background, so I guess it's hard to tell... ^^'
Also a short explanation for anyone who's confused about Minato calling Naruto Raijin: The fanfic is a time travel story where Naruto travels to the past to change the future for the better. To hide his real identity he takes on the role of Raijin, Minato's supposed lost younger brother.
Thanks for taking a look! :)

Bk3 now thinks Izu is cool bc he let a mini clone of him abuse him. Izu has no relationship with the past users, none. Also why they are seeing this now?! No one took a minute to really talk to the kid?
Fuck you Hori.
@doodlegirl1998 a bit of spoiler but Naruto took the time to meet Kyuubi.
Why the past users did nothing?
Shig should die.
Izu will lose an arm...and Bk shall be hauled as the greatest
Hori:😍my beloved.
Is…is this a joke?
ok mha manga latest chapter Hori will have Izuku lose OFA to defeat Shigaraki? And what's even funnier is that one fan said that behind the door in OFA that's normally locked behind it is Kacchan!? I think I survived those two OFA users in your movie 2, Horikoshi. Are you really going to make me swallow this trash?

For NaruHina
☠ - angry/violent headcanon
I see that for some reason, I'm compelled to write mini-fanfics about these, so here goes! I tried to make this as in-character as possible for Hinata.
***
Hinata is not known for being angry. People see her as a doormat, someone to push around, because they think she'll take it and won't fight back.
That used to be true, at least until Naruto.
So it shocks her as much as the next person when she knocks unconscious two random villagers after Pain's attack.
She's walking along the ruined streets of Konoha, drinking in the fresh air and sunshine. She thought she was going to die and she wasn't afraid; she even smiled. But she didn't. She was here and Naruto was here, and her mind still spins at the thought.
Loud laughter catches her ears and she glances to her side, unsurprised that the subject of two villagers' conversation is Naruto. He's all that they can talk about lately, and some people are even saying that he should be the Hokage, not Danzo.
But Naruto's celebrity status is very new, and it wasn't too long ago that people refused to even look at him or speak to him. She remembers the villagers' coldness to her friend. It was worse than the cruellest winter blizzard.
There are still some people like that, some people who think of him and only see the Kyuubi, not Naruto.
Her heartbeat speeds up a little as she catches a few words of their conversation. The word "demon fox" is among them and their laughter is snide and still as icy cold as ever.
Her stomach clenches and she doesn't know what comes over her in the next few minutes.
All her years of jyuuken training are paid off with a few rough finger jabs to those men's ribcages.
Hinata may have once been a doormat who could be pushed around and wouldn't fight back, but that was before Naruto, and she didn't face certain death for people to mock him.
Put a symbol (or several) and a character/characters in my ask box, and I’ll give you a headcanon.

Seeing The Unseen [NaruShika]
When Naruto and Shikamaru turn 16, they gain the ability to see their soulmate’s Daemon.
Ao3 Link
Naruto was jolted out of his sleep by something heavy landing on his chest. Naruto was a second away from jumping up onto his feet, hand curled his Kunai ready for the attack but something stopped him. It wasn’t exactly a concrete feeling, but whatever had just landed on him was safe to every part of him and even the Kyuubi stayed silent, which was rare nowadays as he and Jiraiya were working on accessing his powers.
Naruto opened his eyes and was greeted by the most adorable small jet-black kitten that was curled up on his chest. The kitten was already fast asleep and was gently purring as it rose and fell with the rise and fall of Naruto’s chest.
“Oh,” Naruto whispered as he carefully, slowly cupped his hand around the small kitten and an amazed smile crossed his lips as he gently stroked the soft fur.
“What’s going on brat?” Jiraiya rumbled as he rolled onto his side, eyes blinking slowly to look at his student.
“I…My soulmate’s Daemon.” Naruto was in shock and awe as the kitten slept on unaware of the storm of emotions that it just unlocked inside of the 16-year old.
“Yeah? Congrats kid, what does it look like?” Jiraiya asked curiously as he pushed himself up into a sitting position.
Only the two souls that were meant for each other could see their Daemon’s, well up until the two souls connect and then the Daemon’s would become visible.
Naruto knew that for sure as had been present when Iruka-Sensei had met Kakashi-Sensei and a large silver furred dog with one eye covered and a small brown-furred dog with a scar over its nose came into view, tackling the other happily and both of his Sensei’s had turned a bright red colour as they stared at the other in shock and happiness. Naruto and his team had to a lot of threatening that day, after all, Kakashi-Sensei was a pervert and Iruka-Sensei was amazing, but it seems it turned out okay for them after everything.
“A black kitten, it’s so cute and small,” Naruto said in a shaky voice, as his vision got blurry before he used his free hand to swipe at his eyes.
“Cute and small… What’s wrong kid?” Jiraiya didn’t remember crying when his appeared on his 16th birthday.
“I just… I didn’t think I was going to have a soulmate.” Naruto admitted as he stayed lying down, unwilling to move lest it woke his soulmate’s Daemon up and this all disappeared like a dream.
“What? Why?” Jiraiya was awake now and had a bad feeling in his gut as he watched Naruto stare at his chest with wide, glassy eyes.
“I’m me, a Jinchūriki. I just… I just didn’t think I had one.” Naruto admitted, forcing back the horrid memories of his childhood and all the cruel villagers hurting him, mocking him, telling him that no one would want a monster as a soulmate. Some things he had managed to move past but that one thing, that he wouldn’t have a soulmate, that no one would want him stuck with him.
“Jinchūriki or not, everyone has one. You deserve the happiness that your soulmate can give you, don’t doubt that Naruto.” Jiraiya set his hand on Naruto’s hair, messing it up playfully earning a familiar yelp and pout. Naruto couldn’t help but smile as the kitten on his chest peeled one brown eye and stared at him offended that Naruto had disturbed his sleep.
Naruto cradled the Daemon to his chest as he stood up and giggled as the kitten yawned cutely before scaling his shoulders and plopped down onto his head, making itself comfortable in Naruto’s spiky hair.
“It’s sleeping on my head,” Naruto informed his amused Sensei who was looking at him with fondness that Naruto wasn’t sure was directed at him.
“That makes things easier,” Jiraiya mused before he set about gathering their things up so they could leave.
Naruto lifted his hand and gently scratched the Daemon who purred happily in return and Naruto felt happier and lighter than he had in a very long time.
For days this feeling stayed burning in his chest and his fondness for his soulmate’s lazy Daemon. The kitten barely walked if it could manage to get Naruto to carry him somehow and Naruto would rarely say no, in fact, he fully enjoyed having his soulmate’s Daemon cradled in his arms or draped over his head.
However, when it came time for another session of trying to get the Kyuubi under control, the Daemon was pacing and hissing impatiently from across the clearing as the violent red Chakra whipped around Naruto and the blond fought to control it.
Naruto was only half aware of what was happening as he wrestled for control over the Kyuubi’s angry Chakra and could only dig his newly formed claws into the dirt below him. Jiraiya staggered up from where he hit a tree when one of the tails had lashed out against him.
Naruto, however, became very aware when his soulmate’s Daemon lunged across the clearing towards him and panic bubbled up in his throat at the mere thought of hurting it, hurting his soulmate and getting rejected just as he feared he would be.
His soulmate’s Daemon stood its ground, hair raised on end as it stared down Naruto and the Kyuubi with intense brown eyes. The kitten was suddenly covered in darkness as it shifted and morphed until it was the size of a panther, but the roar it let out was one that rivaled the Kyuubi.
Naruto felt the Kyuubi’s hold on him slip and that was all he needed to yank control back to his side and slam the gates shut between them. Naruto gasped and panted as he collapsed onto the ground, steam rising off of him as the Kyuubi’s Chakra faded away.
Naruto huffed when a familiar tongue touched his cheek and he managed to turn his head to the side to look up at the panther.
“Kage,” Naruto whispered finally deciding on a name and something he had been missing about the kitten, or rather panther cub clicked into place and Naruto passed out with Kage curling around him protectively.
~~/~~
Shikamaru never really made a big deal of his birthday, but he could honestly say that he would have preferred not to be leaping from tree to tree to avoid some hunter-nin on his heels. Shikamaru had once again become a decoy to lead the hunter-nin away from the rest of his team. Shikamaru wasn’t sure why he had agreed to that if he was being honest, but he didn’t have much time left to think about it.
Shikamaru swore as the branch he was about to land on broke in half thanks to one of the hunter-nin’s blowing it to pieces with a fire Jutsu. Shikamaru twisted in the air and managed to land on his feet on the ground below. Shikamaru took off in a different direction, eyes darting side to side as blurry shapes of the hunter-nin overtook him.
Shikamaru skidded to a stop just as Kunai’s dug into the dirt inches away from his feet.
“It was brave if not suicidal of you to act as a decoy,” one of the hunter-nin called out, respect in his tone even as he and the rest of his team unsheathed their Kanata’s from their backs. Shikamaru winced at the sharp blades and weighed his options. Not many of them were left as he heaved a sigh, tipping his head back to look at the night sky.
Shikamaru was coming to terms with his death on the same day he was born when someplace a clock struck the same time he had been born and the world around Shikamaru shifted.
Shikamaru was shaken off balance and landed harshly on his back as a large cloud of smoke engulfed the area. Shikamaru knew that some Daemon’s liked to make dramatic entrances; it depended on whose soul they were representing. Shikamaru had to assume that his soulmate was extra dramatic as he coughed some smoke out of his lungs.
“Oh my God,” Shikamaru whispered in shock as the smoke was flung away by nine large golden foxtails. The golden furred fox was the size of a mountain at the least and roared angrily at the hunter-nin who took one look at the massive distortion and echo of a roar that Shikamaru’s soulmate’s Daemon and took off into the forest. They knew better than to take on a massive and pissed off Daemon, they may be invisible but they could still touch and hurt those who are a threat.
The giant nine tails grunted in approval before its head turned and easily found Shikamaru. The fox’s tails flared out as if it was preening as Shikamaru stared up at it slack-jawed. Shikamaru’s limbs felt like jello and he refused to try to stand as the Daemon preened and showed off for Shikamaru.
The fox let out an earth-shaking roar before it glowed as bright as the sun and Shikamaru soon had his arms full of a smaller version of the golden nine tails. It purred as it nuzzled against Shikamaru’s cheek, tails swaying happily as Shikamaru held it closer on reflex.
“What?” Shikamaru stared at the now content mini nine tail fox curled up against his chest.
“The Kyuubi, a golden Kyuubi is my soulmate’s Daemon… That means…Naruto?” Shikamaru whispered as the pieces fell into place for him and the fox gave a pleased yip before licking his cheek playfully.
“This is going to be so troublesome, I suppose I should at least give you a name?” Shikamaru felt something warm spread in his chest at the thought that Naruto was his soulmate. Shikamaru gently pet the soft gold fur and felt a smile appear when the fox wiggled happily and blinked up at him with familiar blue eyes, hell even the whisker marks where present.
“Taiyō, the Sun.” Shikamaru decided and Taiyō yipped in approval before it clambered up to settle on Shikamaru’s shoulder, it’s small nine tails curling around his neck like a scarf.
“Let’s go find my team and go home, does that sound good Taiyō?” Shikamaru rose to his feet, glad his limbs had returned to normal and he wasn’t being hunted any longer.
Taiyō chirped and nuzzled his cheek again before turning its blue eyes towards the sky almost forlornly. Shikamaru understood almost at once what Taiyō was feeling as he felt it more often than not, which looking back should have been a major clue to who his soulmate was.
“He’ll be home soon,” Shikamaru patted Taiyō’s head, unsure if his words were truthful or not but he hoped he was right as he took to the tree’s again to meet his team at their pre-set meeting point.
~~/~~
Shikamaru had kept what form his soulmate’s Daemon had taken to himself. He knew most weren’t aware of Naruto housing the Kyuubi and it wasn’t Shikamaru’s place to reveal that. Shikamaru had grown accustomed to Taiyō wrapped around his shoulders and neck like an oversized, affectionate scarf or bouncing around at his side like a hyperactive pup. What Shikamaru hadn’t expected for Taiyō to leap off his shoulder while he was talking with Temari and bite at his pant leg, pulling him intently towards a certain street.
“Whoa, calm down!” Shikamaru muttered as he stumbled after the suddenly excited fox, waving awkwardly at Temari who was watching amused as Shikamaru was dragged away by his soulmate’s Daemon.
“Taiyō, seriously!” Shikamaru warned after he almost fell flat on his face as he was dragged around a corner.
“Kage, come back here! You’re usually so lazy, why are you now running?” A familiar if not deep voice rang out and Shikamaru froze as Naruto came into view. Naruto froze when his eyes landed on Shikamaru at the end of the small street that both of them had been dragged too.
Shikamaru could only blink as Taiyō lunged forward and the air shifted to reveal a small black cub of some sort collided with Taiyō. The two small animals yipping and nuzzling each other happily as they reunited.
“Shikamaru?” Naruto’s voice was quiet and unsure.
“…Welcome home Naruto,” Shikamaru followed Taiyō’s example and went to greet his soulmate.
“You’re… You’re really my soulmate?” Naruto’s voice was shaky as he stared at Shikamaru wide-eyed as Shikamaru stopped in front of him.
“I’ve been waiting for you to come back home for a while,” Shikamaru placed his hand on a whiskered cheek and smiled when Naruto shuddered even as he nuzzled the other’s palm much like Taiyō does.
“I…Yeah, I’m home.” Naruto sounded choked up, but Shikamaru couldn’t blame him, his throat was closing up a bit as well. Having Naruto here was like coming home in every possible way.
Naruto leaned forward and a smile crossed his lips as Shikamaru’s forehead pressed against his and their hands somehow found each other, twining together as their Daemons’ mirrored them and curled around each other finally content and complete.

p.s.s: not proof read
They say that time heals scars but the person who came up with that obviously never lost the person he loved and cherished the most for if they had, then they wouldn’t have said such a careless thing.
You were strongly reminded by that quote as you stood amongst hundreds of Konoha villagers in anticipation for Kakashi’s coronation as Konohakagure’s sixth Hokage.
Everyone had been surprised by the news but they were happy to have such a strong and responsible man as a leader, to no longer feel weak and unprotected but safe and even feared by other villages. Everyone was excited for this day.
But not you.
You were saddened by this.
Suddenly, those around you cheered and applauded as loudly as they can as Tsunade, the former Hokage, stepped onto the podium to address the villagers with a formal goodbye.
Your heart squeezed tightly once your eyes spotted Kakashi standing in the distance, face hidden behind his mask but his eye held no emotion in them.
There was a lump in your throat and you tried to swallow it away but your throat was as dry as sand paper, making it painful for you to swallow.
Tsunade’s words fell on deaf ears as tears filled the corner of your eyes and, without even knowing it, you were pushing yourself out of the crowed and somewhere far away from the coronation. The last thing you heard was the crowed screaming and cheering as Kakashi stepped onto the podium next to Tsunade.
-
You’ve been walking for hours. How much exactly, you weren’t sure. All that you knew was that your feet were moving for a very long time and soon you found yourself along the outskirts of the Naka River and the sun setting into the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of red and oranges, reminding you of that special day you don’t think you’d ever forget.
It was the day of Rin’s funeral and everyone had gathered to bid the young Kunoichi goodbye.
Although you were a regular civilain and didn’t understand the severity of the loss or the sacrifice she had made, you understood the tragedy the village was facing, especially your childhood neighbor Hatake Kakashi.
Kakashi had wandered off towards the end of the funeral and didn’t bother to stick around for the aftermath of the event.
Knowing how much Kakashi had suffered and the people he had lost in his younger days, you bit your lip in worry as you set off to find him.
Eventually, you found him sitting on a cliff overlooking Konoha, the sun was setting in the distance and it cast the village in an orange hue.
The young boy had his knees pulled up and pressed to his chest while his chin rested on his arms atop of them.
You were positive that there were no words that would comfort the boy so you did the next best thing, you sat next to him with your arm around him and listened to Kakashi as he silently cried.
A tear escaped and rolled down your cheek at the memory but you quickly wiped it away and continued in your aimless walk.
There were rustling sounds coming from one of the bushes in the distance that made you stop in your tracks, your heart beating loudly in your ears in anticipation. Holding your breath, you slowly inched forward and was startled when a small white rabbit jumped from within the bushes.
Your shoulders sagged and a shaky exhale escaped your lips. The small white rabbit stared at you in curiosity, it’s small red eyes blinking up at you.
You offered the harmless creature a small smile but it jumped off deeper into the forest. You watched after it and remembered an early morning similar to this encounter.
When Minato and Kushina died, the entirety of Konoha were in mourn. But no one experienced such a great loss like Kakashi. Right when things were finally starting to get normal and Kakashi had the opportunity to experience what having a loving family was like, his parental figures die, one in battle while the other after giving birth.
Your eyes never wandered off of Kakashi as you followed him through the woods. You knew that Kakashi would run off faster than the speed of light if he wanted to but you were glad that he was allowing you to be close to him. Though, that didn’t mean you didn’t worry over the boy.
He had just returned from evacuating the villagers into safety after the sudden attack of the Kyuubi when the former Hokage had informed Kakashi of Minato and Kushina’s deaths.
Kakashi had no reaction. His eyes didn’t well up with tears, he didn’t let out a cry of anguish, not even questioning the Hokage. He just accepted their deaths and walked out of the office.
You had run into him as you were helping your father clean up your mini market when the silver haired teenager walked by. Your eyes lit up and you were about to greet him with a bright smile but when you noticed his hunched form and his hands buried deep into his pockets, you knew there was something wrong.
You quickly ran off to catch up with Kakashi and when you were within reach, you griped his shoulder and turned him around to face you. The sight that greeted you shook you to your core. His eyes were filled to the brim with tears and his cheeks flushed a deep red color. His mask was soaking wet at the never ending tears cascading down his cheeks.
“They’re gone.”
Harshly, you rubbed your eyes to will the memory away.
You’ve known Kakashi since you were a little girl and for as long as you’ve known the silver haired man, he had always been stalked by tragedy. Wherever he went, whomever he had cherished and valued, tragedy would clutch its greedy fingers on them and snatch them away from Kakashi. It happened with his biological parents, his best friends and then with his parental figures.
It was too much for the teenager and it made perfect sense why he ended up joining ANBU.
“You can’t be serious.”
It had been two weeks since Minato and Kushina’s deaths. The village of Konoha continued on with their lives while the third Hokage returned to his rule.
It was early morning and you were manning the cashier at your father’s mini market. It was a slow and boring day with nothing to entertain you other than a trashy Shinobi magazine with a ‘Top 10 list of the Hottest Shinobi in Konoha.” clutched between your fingers.
It was so quiet that you were about to fall asleep when the door opened and the bells signaled the arrival of a new costumer. Your sleepy expression turned into one of joy as Kakashi walked in and stopped in front of you.
“Kakashi!” Your lips turned upwards into a bright smile, “What can I do for you?”
The teenager said nothing, his hands deep in his pockets, as his eyes scanned the shelves of chewing gum and cigarettes behind you.
“I’m joining ANBU.” He said simply. His voice so quiet that you were certain you misheard him.
You were a civilian and you didn’t know much about the Shinobi world but everyone knew of ANBU. Knew the excruciating and intense training Shinobi went through in order to be masterful and be higher in ranks.
Your smile faltered, “I’m sorry?”
Kakashi’s visible brown eye met yours, “Danzo recruited me to join ANBU.”
Before you could say anything else, Kakashi had turned around and exited the market, leaving you in a stunned daze.
Quickly, you snapped out it and followed after Kakashi.
“Oi, Kakashi! Wait!”
But the boy continued on walking.
Angered, you ran up to him and took hold of his shoulder and forced him around to face you, “What are you doing?”
Kakashi avoided eye contact and said nothing. Your angry aura and the hurt in your eyes ineffective to him.
“Are you seriously joining ANBU or are you playing some mean joke because it isn’t funny.”
“I’m serious.” His eye met yours and you were surprised by the harshness in it. Never in your life had Kakashi looked at you that way. It was so sudden and unfamiliar that you dropped your hand from his shoulder and took a step back.
“It’s dangerous.” You whispered and all that Kakashi could do was shrug his shoulders at you.
“I can handle it.” He said in his quiet, monotone voice.
“You could die!” Your voice grew louder, as if it could somehow explain to Kakashi how stupid joining ANBU was.
He said nothing though and slowly blinked at you.
When you had nothing else to say, Kakashi turned around and walked away.
Tears rapidly filled your eyes before they rolled down your cheeks as you watched Kakashi walk away from you and, possibly, never coming back.
You hadn’t seen nor spoken to Kakashi for the next twelve years after that day. Your entire routine was thrown out of loop as you lost sleep worrying over Kakashi and fearing for his life. You became so depressed that you couldn’t continue working in your father’s mini market and almost dropped out of school had it not been for Gai who visited you one night to inform you about Kakashi’s well-being. You remember breaking down in his arms, relief suffocating you at knowing that Kakashi was alive and well.
You didn’t get to see Kakashi until your second year as an elementary school teacher for the civilian children of Konoha. It happened by accident really. You were tidying up the class and preparing for the day’s lesson plan when you had spotted the taller and stronger looking man through the window.
His face was still hidden behind his mask and his right eye was still hidden from sight. He was followed by three children who all had different hair colors; one girl had long pink hair while the two other boys had blonde and black hairs respectively.
His appearance stunned you into silence and you would’ve left the classroom to follow after the man had it not been for your students walking in and announcing their presence.
The second time you saw Kakashi was another coincidence. School had been let out early and you didn’t feel like going home just eat. Instead, you went to Ichiraku’s Ramen shop for lunch.
“I’ll be sure to drop by again!” You called over your shoulders, a melodic chuckle escaping your lips, when you suddenly bumped into someone.
Large hands strongly gripped onto your shoulders to balance your footing and to prevent you from falling, “I’m sorry! I should’ve wa-”
Brown eye met Y/E/C in a startled yet dumfounded expression.
“-tch where I’m going.” You trailed off.
Seeing Kakashi up close was messing up with your head and your heart was beating so loud you feared that it would stop.
“It’s fine.” His voice was deeper but it still had the quietness in it. Vaguely, you remembered Kakashi’s father having a similar tone of voice.
“Hurry up, Kakashi! You’re paying!” The shouts of a blonde boy sitting on the barstool interrupted your thoughts and the two of you jumped back.
“I should go.” Kakashi stated and rubbed the back his neck.
All you could do was nod your head and watch him walk into the ramen shop. Something deep inside of you told you that won’t be the last time you’d run into the most powerful Shinobi and you could feel a small smile crawl its way across your lips in anticipation.
Things between you and Kakashi were great. Your friendship rekindled and your bond grew stronger than ever. However, Kakashi still kept his distance. And, as an adult and having heard of the risks of the Shinobi lifestyle, you understood and accepted Kakashi’s cautions, especially knowing what kind of childhood he suffered.
And when tragedy struck again with one of his students (you eventually learn as Sasuke) took off with a dangerous rouge Shinobi, you were there for Kakashi.
You were even there when Naruto left Konoha to train with his mentor and Sakura interning for Tsunade, and comforted Kakashi during his loneliness.
And right before the beginning of the Fourth Great War where Kakashi had snuck into your apartment and begged for you to stay safe and wait for him, his brown eye wet with unshed tears, you did as your told and sealed the promise with a kiss to the cheek.
So it made no sense for Kakashi to return to apartment one day after the Great War with his expression resembling the very same one when he had told you he was joining ANBU.
You already knew Kakashi was going to say something you weren’t going to like by that expression alone and you were already shaking your head ‘no’ before he could even say anything else.
“Y/N, listen to me-”
“No!” You shut your eyes tight, not wanting for whatever it was Kakashi was going to say to come true.
You heard him deeply sigh through his nose and soon felt his strong arms wrap around you, “I’m sorry.” He whispered softly into your ears, in hopes to calm you down, “But I’ve been chosen and they need m-”
But you didn’t want to hear what Kakashi was saying so you walked away from his embrace, “I need you!” You spat harshly, tear streaks on your cheeks.
“I was there for you. During everything, not out of obligation but out of love and you left me to join ANBU. That broke my heart, Kakashi, did you know that?”
The silver haired man didn’t. He said nothing as he watched you run your hand through your locks of hair, making it appear messier than its usual kept style.
“I was alone and depressed. I was scared that i would never see you again.” Teary Y/E/C met his briefly before looking away, “And when I finally moved on and things became normal, you’re back in my life as if nothing happened.” You chuckled humorously.
“And I was there for you when your kids left, I was there for you when literally died, even if only for a couple of minutes, and I waited for you during the war. And when it was finally over, when I thought that we’d finally live our lives like everyone else and finally be together, you want to throw all of that to be a Hokage!”
You were panting and your eyebrows furrowed in sorrow. The tears stopped falling but your cheeks were still wet. “I would be fine if you said you’re going to be Hokage and I could be there for you a-as a friend - maybe something even more if you’ve ever felt that way towards me - but you tell me that you can no longer see me.”
It wasn’t meant as a question, though Kakashi answered nonetheless, “To keep you saf-”
“I don’t give a shit!”
Silence met your ears and once you were able to calm down, You had asked Kakashi to leave.
That was a week ago and you haven’t seen Kakashi until earlier today.
When your feet halted their movements, blood staining the soles of your feet and your toes in pain, you finally stopped walking at the end of Naka river.
The sun had completely set and the forest was eerily quiet. You weren’t sure how far away from home you were though, you didn’t care. You just wanted to be as far away from the ceremony as possible.
Sitting down on the grass, you wondered how differently your life could’ve been if you had run into Kakashi outside of the ramen shop. Would you have fallen in love with a civilian that you’d eventually marry? You’d probably have at least two of his kids by now running around your tiny little home. Would you have let them join the Academy if they had asked you to? Probably not.
Maybe you and Kakashi were never meant to be. Your love from your childhood well into your adulthood could’ve been one sided after all. Though, there were moments where you believed Kakashi loved you as much as you did. Maybe not during his childhood but you’ve seen it in his adulthood. The way  he’d look at you when you thought you weren’t looking, those brief touches and him always visiting you after returning from a dangerous mission. You were positive that he loved you when Kakashi had been to your apartment and told you to stay safe before the Great War all those months ago.
Exhaustion settled into you and your eyes soon grew droopy. Resting against a tree, you entertained your mind of thoughts of Kakashi retiring from the Shinobi life and spending the rest of his days with you as you welcomed the cold embrace of sleep.

Is it true 🤣 that kishimoto was a fan of togashi and used yyh as a reference to create sasuke and naruto's nine tail fox ?
Yes, it is ^^ if you read some of his interviews with Togashi, Kishimoto mentions several inspirations he had from HxH and YYH, for example:
“Kagebushin no Jutsu of Naruto is strongly inspired by Suzaku's technique in Yu Yu Hakusho”
“Back when I've started the serialization of Naruto, my inspiration for these kind of facial expressions was Hunter x Hunter, even to this day it still has a special place for me and I often re-read it. Next there's the character Hiei who's been developed in a fantastic way. I was already a big fan of Hiei back when I was only a reader, but I've also took him as a source of inspiration when I started creating my characters. At first I wasn't able to create a "cool" character, I didn't know where to begin so I studied one my favorite characters: Hiei, and I succeeded in creating Sasuke, the Sharingan as well as some of his other techniques were inspired by him.”
Source: "Naruto 10th Anniversary Chronicle Book Mini (2009)"
I don’t know whether Naruto's nine tail fox was inspired by Kurama, I think only the name was a homage, because the kyuubi figure is already famous in Japanese legends and is used in many stories and manga. But even though the name “Kurama” is the same, Kishimoto applied different kanji (writing) to his fox. I love Kishimoto being so down-to-earth, polite and honest with his inspirations ^^

III - Togashi x Kishimoto Discuss Expression

What would little Rena and Carapace be called?
I have the headcanon that Nino is actually pretty bad with names. So he comes up with options and Alya has Veto power.
Nino: Mini Rouge!
Alya: No.
Nino: Rena Kit?
Alya: Also no.
Nino: Foxy!
Alya: I’m getting so many FNaF flashbacks right now, it’s not even funny.
Nino: Kyuubi?
Alya: ...You’ve been watching anime with Adrien again, haven’t you?
Nino: Kitsune?
Alya: Yeah, I’m grounding you from spending time with Adrien until the two of you get better taste.
Nino: (Gasps and hugs the Carapace Doll) You apologize to Shelly right now!
Alya: (Sighs)

Mini Rant
Sasuke Uchiha’s entire family had been oppressed and discriminated against for decades only because of the actions of one man (Madara).
After the Kyuubi attack, the entire family had been blamed because of the actions of one man (Obito) again.
When the family finally got enough of the racism they’ve been facing and planned a coup d’etat, all of them got massacred. All of them. Massacred. Without having a trial.
Sasuke witnessed their deaths when he was 7. When he was 7.
For all Sasuke knew back then, his older brother whom he adored so much was responsible. His older brother.
Sasuke had re-watched their deaths over and over and over for 72 hours. 72 hours. Over and over. And over. For 72 hours.
Sasuke had taken revenge on his older brother, it’s all great.
Then, he learns the truth. He learns that his family had been slaughtered in a full-on fascist, racist, extremist, government supported genocide and that his older brother was actually “innocent” (a debate for another day).
He’s angry at the corrupt government that’s named Konoha because of this unforgivable crime against humanity. He’s angry at the entire Shinobi system that causes suffering to many. He suffers from extreme PTSD at this point and although his methods of fixing the problems are debatable, most of his views on the Shinobi system are actually justifiable.
It’s ok though. It’s all ok. Sasuke was just a salty God’s reincarnation. That’s all. His trauma is invalid. It’s all Gods and stuff. Here, have a Naruto vs. Sasuke that’s totally not a meaningless wish fulfillment. Yey, Sasuke is redeemed now! Konoha is good. Shinobi is good. Sasuke is just salty. No injustice here, it was just destiny and Gods all along. It’s ok. Really, it’s ok.

A Matter of Interpretation
I was jotting down a few blurbs into the miscellaneous section of my Kitsune & Seer outline, and this was funny and relatable enough for me to turn into a mini-ficlet. The idea of a drunk kitsune!Dazai going through his messy thought processes on the nature of his relationship with Oda cracked me up.
                                                 ~~~~~~~~~~~
It was common knowledge, rather than fact, that kitsune had an opinion on everything. Just about anyone that knew Dazai could attest for this and if prompted, would stand and bear their testimony to the public. (Perhaps, they would even take the ax for the honesty, but that’s a different story.)
Without fail, an opinion would slip from the kitsune’s tongue as if he had nothing better to do on a lazy afternoon. Sake was better drunk during a New Moon, rather than a Full Moon. The best sake was brewed closer to the sea, rather than high in the mountains. (An opinion that a certain flock of tengu would never forgive the kitsune for!) Sake tasted better after a meal, rather than before, and the best was meant to be served first before one was blasted on the alcohol. As of now, while typing this out, most of Dazai’s opinions revolved around sake. No youkai would deny that the drink had been brought to the earth by the gods, and anyone that knew Dazai would know that sake was his one and only weakness. At least, that was common knowledge until he met Oda Sakunosuke.
There was no need to elaborate on how they met. It involved a public execution that failed! (Wasn’t that how most people met each other, nowadays?) At his fourth or tenth bottle of sake, with a flush nestled behind his ears, Dazai steadied himself as he stared at his unfinished cup. It was one thing to understand someone, but another to look into a mirror and have that mirror know the minutiae of one’s flaws. Staring back at Dazai was not himself, despite the resemblance and the thick flush of red that sprouted over his nose. Staring back at him was neither a kitsune or a man, but someone who didn’t have the courage to lift a few words from the silence of their heart.
If someone were to ask him what the nature of his relationship with Oda was, Dazai wouldn’t know how to respond. For a kitsune who was clever enough to always know what to say, to see him stunned and in silence was a strange image. Oh, Dazai would blink and flutter his eyelashes. Not to create a diversion, but more as a reaction to the stunned silence he was experiencing, himself. All of a sudden, his throat was parched. No sake in the world could satiate his thirst, but an answer. He needed to answer if he wanted to experience the pleasures of this world again. However, at the same time, Dazai wouldn’t mind giving up the pleasures of this world if he could keep the answer to himself.
To refer to Oda as “His Friend” left a strange taste on Dazai’s tongue. Not as strange as the taste of water when he clearly asked for sake, but strange enough to lift the corners of his mouth into what looked like a half-smile. The casualness of such a word was too light-hearted to describe what was going on between Oda and him. All the while, Dazai drained his cup before a new splash of sake trickled from the edge of a bottle. The familiarity of the taste gave him some confidence as he murmured, more to himself rather than to anyone else, that “Friend” could hardly describe two individuals who’ve risked life, limb, and sanity to keep the other alive. The word was far too simple to describe two, lonely souls who had company in the silence in one another’s hearts. If that was the case, what word was more appropriate?
Alas, Dazai couldn’t say as he tipped back what felt like his hundredth cup of sake. His drink nearly spilled, nearly stained the pinks of his kimono and nearly perfected the image of his unfettered mind. Bits of sake dribbled from the edge of his lips. Perhaps, he had drunk too much tonight. He kept himself together, despite shattering into a thousand pieces inside. The only remnant of the damage was the half-hearted smile that never really reached his eyes when he finished his drank, again, and apologized.
To refer to Oda as a “Colleague” or “Associate” seemed too formal, too distant, and too inappropriate after everything they’ve been through. That much, Dazai knew to be true. Had they not shared the faults in their stars to one another and found solace in the other’s heart? Had they not found their nourishment by the mere sight of the other when food nor drink could satiate the growl when they were torn apart? Dazai toasted and drank to each of his responses. “Yes” to the first, “Yes” to the second, but “No” to the words that left a bland taste on his tongue. If those words were dishes, he’d rather ignore and push them off his plate.
“Acquaintance” wasn’t any better for it spoke of a familiarity that didn’t exist. “Companion” was worse for it could be uttered from between one’s teeth in begrudging politeness. So fortunately or unfortunately, “Friend” would have to do. No matter how foreign it was to Dazai’s vocabulary, it was the only word that made sense when he thought about Oda. At least, it was the only word until the man taught him a new one.
It wasn’t uncommon to see Dazai, stumbling back into Oda’s arms after a long night of drinking. Where he’d rest his weary head over the man’s heart and count a hundred heartbeats to remind himself that Oda was still alive. The routine didn’t bat an eyelash from Oda, and he’d breathe a familiar sigh and embrace Dazai as if he had never left. Usually, Dazai would hug him back and mumble how he felt like a kyuubi tonight, despite only having four-tails. He’d mumble that he was no closer to understanding humanity, but close enough to swindle it of every coin in its pocket. And usually, Oda would play along and agree, already boiling some hot water for tomorrow when a hangover finally settled in.
But tonight, at least for tonight, Dazai didn’t want a routine. He wanted an answer.
“What are we?” Half of seeming clever was keeping his mouth shut at all the right times, but this was not one of those times. Dazai didn’t need to be clever, he simply needed to be honest. After all, Oda was quite fluent in honesty and he must’ve heard the slip to a new language when those innocent words trailed from the edge of Dazai’s tongue. If there was one person that knew who they were, it was Oda.
Just as how the man would never lie to the kitsune, there was no need for him to even do so. That much, Dazai knew to be true as he listened closely to Oda’s heart. The rhythm never changed, even after Oda spoke.
“Partners.” There was an ungodly amount of honesty behind that simple word. “Thanks to you,” Oda murmured into the strands of Dazai’s hair because he couldn’t reach to the kitsune’s ears, “whenever I find myself near the end of a tunnel and see the light flickering in, I realize that the light feels more like a torch that I’ve been carrying all along.”
About the Kakashi Anbu Arc...
Specifically, the anime filler arc in the final season that explores Kakashi’s life post-Kyuubi, pre-Team-7. First of all, I actually really like this filler arc. It fleshed out several character relationships (not least of all, Kakashi and Yamato/Tenzo/Kinoe) as well as the dichotomy between Danzo’s Root and the Hokage’s Anbu. There was action, political intrigue, Kakashi being a badass, Kakashi being vulnerable, Kakashi interacting with baby Yamato and baby Itachi...plus, I’m a sucker for glimpses into Root’s culture. Sure, there were some flaws, some plot holes, but for the most part, they were relatively minor in my mind.
Except for one.
The plot to assassinate Hiruzen.
I have several problems with this whole plot thread. Let’s take a look, shall we?
First, a quick recap: In this anime-only filler arc, after the Kyuubi attack, teenage Kakashi was left grieving, angry, alone. Along comes Danzo, giving him someone to blame for the tragedy: Hiruzen. It was Hiruzen who ordered all the young Shinobi (including Kakashi) to NOT interfere during the attack; if Kakashi had been allowed to fight, perhaps things would have turned out differently. Danzo then makes Kakashi an offer: Work for him. Spy on Hiruzen. Help Danzo put Konoha back on the right path.
Kakashi, in his grief, agrees.
So we see him passing along information to Danzo for a bit...and then, Kakashi comes across a Foundation kid with a supposedly extinct ability: Wood release. Put a pin in that - it’ll come up again soon.
Anyway, eventually, Kakashi becomes part of Danzo’s plot to assassinate the Hokage. However, Kakashi has a change of heart and instead warns Hiruzen of the plot. Danzo is thwarted; Hiruzen confronts him...and then essentially forgives him. Hiruzen tells Danzo that if he ever found the individual responsible for the plot, he would have every right to charge the person with treason and execute them...but he’d rather that person instead focus their energies on protecting the village.
Some issues.
1. It was unnecessary from a story perspective.
From a story point of view, the assassination/double-cross subplot is supposedly what made Kakashi turn “back to the light,” so to speak. But here’s the thing: I don’t think that was the reason he turned on Danzo. It’s not that I think Kakashi was perfectly fine with the idea of assassinating the Hokage; it certainly contributed, I imagine. However, given the trauma in his life so far, especially being forced to kill a friend for the sake of the village, I think the Kakashi of this time had resigned himself to being a tool of assassination. If killing the Hokage was really the best thing for Konoha - as Danzo said it was - then he was probably prepared to do it. (Or at least believed he was.)
However, something else happened during this time that lead Kakashi to doubt Danzo’s intentions: Kakashi discovered that Danzo was hiding a Wood release user. It’s significant to me that Kakashi investigated the matter BEFORE deciding to tell the Hokage about Danzo’s plans. Hiruzen bringing up that Wood Release was one of the only ways to subdue the Kyuubi made Kakashi think: That ability is more important than ever in the village now. Why would Danzo be keeping it hidden away if he truly had the village’s best interests in mind?
TL;DR: Kakashi already had the doubts he needed about Danzo. An assassination, while certainly good for drama, wasn’t completely necessary for him to turn on Danzo. Plus...
2. The aftermath is VERY problematic.
There are two sides of this: Hiruzen and Kakashi. By allowing Danzo to get away with a thinly veiled warning, they both wind up looking at naive and/or horribly negligent - and well into the future, in Kakashi’s case. Hiruzen giving his old comrade the benefit of the doubt despite trying to KILL him...that’s one thing. I mean, I’m generally a fan of forgiveness, but this is extreme, even for me.
But Kakashi knowing about all of this, and NEVER bringing it up, say, to Tsunade? Or the Elders? (Not that I have the highest opinion of those two windbags...) Staying quiet about it while Danzo took power? I know, I know - Kishi didn’t actually figure this whole filler arc into the story. But do you see the problems it creates in hindsight, especially for consistent characterization? It makes Kakashi, a character defined partly by his intelligence and judgment, seem at best an idiot and at worst willfully negligent. A lot of the filler arc adds to his characterization and shows his growth (though most of that is focused on Kino-Tenz-Yams). But this? This takes away from it. It doesn’t make him flawed; it makes his actions (or lack thereof) reprehensible.
3. It could almost be seen as “out of character” for Danzo. (Yes, I’m serious.)
Yeah, we get it, Danzo is power-hungry and has wanted the Hokage hat ever since Tobirama tossed it to Hiruzen in the middle of a mini-war. He regularly undermines the Hokage office, acts on his own without the Hokage’s approval, and utilized shady, sometimes illegal means for his ends. He even holds his own forces back from assisting during Pein’s assault - while you could debate how much help they’d really have been, it’s still possible they COULD have saved at least a few lives. (...which would have been resurrected anyway, but let’s not open THAT can of worms.) Danzo has certainly committed egregious acts of subterfuge and sabotage.
But if he’d wanted to simply kill his way to the Hokage seat, he’d have done so long ago.
I put forth that assassinating a political figure of his own village was NOT in Danzo’s character, at least at that time. Assassination of a Konoha official is messy, risky, blatant. And it might not have even worked! Danzo would still need to be nominated, then chosen as the prime candidate, then approved by the Daimyo, then voted in by the Jonin...there were (apparently) quite a few hoops to jump through. Simply killing off the current Hokage wouldn’t have gotten all the work done. Heck, since the Uchiha clan was still around at the time, and I somehow doubt he had the best relationship with them in public, he’d have had a HARDER time getting the political support he needed.
(Huh...come to think of it, that COULD be part of the reason he wanted to get rid of the Uchiha clan...hmm...)
Point is, Danzo as he’s presented in strict canon is an opportunist, a reactionary, and frankly, a coward. From youth to old age, he’s preferred to stay back and let things play out around him, then take advantage of the outcome. We see this when he fails to volunteer himself as bait for Shinkaku and Ginkaku; we see it (in filler, but still) when he hesitates to put himself or Orochimaru forth as a Hokage candidate, post-third-war. We see it again when he keeps his troops from fighting Pein. Considering all of this...would he really be so bold and direct as to kill a Hokage?
“But the whole point of the failed assassination and Hiruzen’s forgiveness of it is that it made Danzo prioritize the village over his own ambitions!”
He still prioritized his own ambitions after that. He kept Root going in secret so that he’d have his own personal army. He continued to undermine Tsunade, trying to assassinate Sasuke without her knowledge. And again, there’s his purposeful inaction during the Pein attack. He may have convinced himself that he was only acting in the village’s interests, but he still prioritized his own.
Conclusion and caveats...
So, from a plot perspective, I kind of understand why they needed something other than the whole “Danzo’s hoarding a Mokuton user” thing for Kakashi to bring to Hiruzen at the start. I can see 2 uses for it:
A) It helped Kakashi prove his ability to judge situations for himself, thus making him one of Hiruzen’s most trusted Anbu operatives.
B) The writers wanted to save the Mokuton reveal for later - after “Kinoe” became “Tenzo” and had his own life-changing encounters that prepared him for leaving Root. After all, once Hiruzen was told of Kinoe/Tenzo’s existence, it became necessary to pull him out of Root. (I’ll admit, my memory on the timeline of this arc is a tad fuzzy...I can’t recall if Kakashi had already told Hiruzen about Kinoe before or not...and I’m too lazy right now to check.) Anyway, if they had Kakashi tell Hiruzen sooner, we might not have gotten the whole “Tenzo”/smoke-clan thing, or the whole “to kill Kakashi or not to kill Kakashi” thing, both of which wound up shaping Tenzo.
But I still think the assassination subplot made less sense than it attempted to make.
Also, it’s a tad inconvenient for certain aspects of my own fic, soooo yeah. There you have it: the real reason I want to retcon it :P
