The event is being held by Two Bit Contemporary (not me) and submission are OPEN until January 5th! If you submit your own gameboy camera photos then you will be accepted! It welcomes gb cam photos taken not only from original hardware but also photos taken through emulators and modded cartridges.

Kaiju Week in Review (January 28-February 3, 2024)

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition's Godzilla DLC is now available. I joined Wikizilla's stream of it yesterday as a spectator and found it quite entertaining (especially when @squid-in-a-party-hat switched to Creative Mode and started summoning mini-kaiju). I'll post the highlight reel from that stream when it's finished. The main hub of this DLC is a combination movie theater/gallery; each of the four screens lets you access a different minigame. The first is based on the original film and has you rescuing civilians and just trying to survive as Godzilla trashes Tokyo. The second transforms you into Godzilla and pits you and your allies against various kaiju from the first three series. The third tasks you with defending Tokyo against Shin Godzilla, with each defensive phase featuring a different form. The fourth just has you taking photos of the battles in Godzilla vs. Kong (with the Tasmian Sea fight replaced by Godzilla barging into Kong's dome). I found the second and third to be the most interesting, but it's dismaying that only the third really takes advantage of these games being in Minecraft. You scrounge items, build barricades, lay down TNT, trade with NPCs, summon agents, fire blood coagulation potion into Godzilla's mouth from a crossbow... it's a lot more involved than the others.

In further Godzilla video game news, the Heisei MOGUERA and a crystal-hurling SpaceGodzilla variation have joined Godzilla Battle Line, the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers mobile game is teasing its original monsters, and Dave the Diver of all things announced a free PlayStation-exclusive Godzilla DLC for May.

Here's a rare sequel to an IDW Godzilla miniseries. Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons II - Sons of Giants will boast the same writer (Frank Tieri) and artist (Inaki Miranda) as its predecessor. The logline:

The sequel to last summer’s smash miniseries! Frank Tieri and Inaki Miranda reunite to explore the conspiracy that led to Sir Francis Drake hiding his treasure on Monster Island! Who are the Sons of Giants, and what is their mission? More importantly, what is their connection to Godzilla and the other monsters? This series shows us how it all came to be, how Godzilla was discovered by the leaders of the world, and how it changed history forever!

Despite the Roman numerals, sounds like a prequel. I still think there's something off about any Godzilla story set before the Atomic Age, but the Sons of Giants were the most interesting part of the original Here There Be Dragons, and historical figures encountering the King of the Monsters is always amusing.

Naturally, Funko is making a line of Pops for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The standout is the Amazon-exclusive figure of a sleeping Godzilla; I also love how Shimo looks like she's yakking. Monogram also revealed the lineup for its sixth wave of Toho Godzilla bag clips, as well as a GxK set. Highlights of the former are a curled-up Final Wars Anguirus, a Simeon, and Zilla; the latter is notable for including a previously-unrevealed monster called a Parrot Frog.

Tokyo's Hibiya neighborhood has long played host to Godzilla statues: first the Kawakita Godzilla, then Shin. Now they're getting a new three-meter statue of the original '54 Godzilla. It emits smoke at night, the mouth glows, and there seems to be some kind of AR app through which he fires atomic breath at you. Despite it being a 70th anniversary installation, however, it'll only be in Hibiya until March 10. I'm guessing that won't be the last we see of it.

well obviously now that I've finished one single painting, I had to make: AN ART GALLERY! I'm very excited about it and thrilled with how it's come out; i've been wanting to try some kinda tuscany-inspired thing for a while.

On the inside, the trapdoors are hiding barrels in the floor; I've put copies of the map pieces for my custom painting there, so that other players can come by for a print if they want to hang custom paintings in their own home!

this one actually has a LOT of planning to make it all work, aND HONESTLY IT PROBABLY COULDVE STILL USED MORE, but here's a few pages of me figuring out the basic look, figuring out how big it needed to be to house a bunch of paintings just in case i make a bunch of paintings (originally I was trying to figure out a way to start small and slowly introduce more space, but then i realised I could just fill it out with the official paintings and thus never have a big sad gallery filled with one (1) painting lmao), and figuring out how to make the skylights work. It's kinda fun that, due to the skylights being a significant source of light, the gallery does get darker at night. GALLERY CLOSED, EVERYONE GO HOME

A tiny little cramped/cozy room for whoever runs this place (me) to sleep. I wanted the lectern to basically be an 'easel' of sorts, with the latest painting-in-progress visible on it -- it's linked to a map on the site, so as I work, the painting on the easel will update!!

Next two Dreamsnaps! SOOOOOOO Guess who forgot to save the actual photo for Dreamlight Art Gallery but managed to screenshot her tags for it. THIS DUMBASS! That's right, ME! Anyways, I was going for a Botanical Garden hosting the local Art Fair. Also, I think it's fun when art festivals, art fairs, ectra have lil spots where you can do art at the activity. I just like lil hands on experiences at things. Also I trapped a lot of characters so they could wander around and look like they were looking around, but I forgot to get Anna to stop hanging out with me, but I like that it looks like she's watching me. I stuck with this one due to Ariel waving and Wall-E sitting down. Fashion week was "Timeless Magical Style" and I was inspired for The Magician Card in a regular Tarot Deck for the setting. As for the fashion, I've been on an Oracle of Delphi kick for some reason (think I might have to blame Kaz Rowe's video on youtube....that's the only thing I can think of....or my current minecraft save? IDK ya'll) so I kinda wanted to lean into an very odd and unhistorical mix of Greek, Roman, fantasy vibes. I did not get the Megara dress when it was out so I have this as my closest "Greek" toga, but the Astral boots look nice with it and the lil circlet looks nice with it...as do the earrings....the bracelet and necklace.....eh, but I needed the tags.

i've started a little series of weekly posts documenting every MoC i made (digitally) over the last few years:

week 2: 2018

my first post on reddit, an effort to document irl MoCs, testing a new renderer, Minecraft cusoo, Lego Movies and Overwatch (ew)

i was obsessed with monocycles as a 17 year old. i made these two specifically to post on my then new reddit account and a lot of the comments under that post were referencing some south park episode. this made me way too upset, because i loathed that show (pretty reasonable, i'd say).

i still kinda like this build even though the wheel doesn't turn, which is like, the main thing that a good wheel should be able to do.

here we've got my oldest ever MoC, a red sewing machine using only three parts, that i made when i was like, four or five.

then there's some micro space ships, including a Bird of Prey and the enterprise.

the last few are semi-minifigure scale, even the ccbs MoC. the last one is still probably one of my favourite MoCs i've made so far. i also like the photo i took of it.

i took these photos with my dslr to document all the Irl MoCs i had on reddit. i think i posted them weekly (kinda like this series).

i think some of the photos look really nice, but a lot of them just don't work.

Stud.io updated their renderer to look more realistic at that time, so i decided to test it by rendering and photgraphing the Cusoo Minecraft Set that i had just bought on amazon. we'll revisit this idea in a later week, where i've tested rendering Lego in Blender

by the way, never buy dicontinued Lego sets on amazon; i payed waaaay to much for this one, especially compared to the prize i would've payed on bricklink.

that Minecraft set inspired me to try out the building style. i still kinda like the way it turned out and we'll see a lot more of this, especially more block-accurate MoCs, in a later week.

the Lego Batman Movie came out around this time and i, being a Doctor who fan, just had to re-make the "british Robots" that appeared in that movie.

this was the first of my MoCs that i made instructions for and i published those to the Bricklink Stud.io Gallery, but it was later deleted becasue it was technically not My own Creation. oh well.

the trailer for The Lego Movie 2 came out later in the year in the year and Apocalypseburg inspired me to build something based on the architecture statue of liberty.

i like both of these almost equally. i think the first one better conveys the look of stacked up containers, but the second one envelopes the statue in a way more convincing way.

i don't really like this Roblox spider.

Lego Overwatch came out around that time, which was really big, because it was the first Theme based on a Video Game after the Minecraft Theme from 2014 (that one doesn't really count though, because it was pretty much inevitable)

i almost immeadly bought the omnic bastion that was exclusive to the Blizzard shop, even though i couldn't care less about Overwatch, because the set was a really cool exclusive that i just needed to have.

i then digitally rebuilt the set and began modding it to have variants based on some of the different skins that were available for Bastion.

2019's going to be a lot, maybe i'll split it into two weeks.

Photo Roulette is a free game for Android and iPhone (iOS) in which photos from the users' cell phone memory are displayed on the screen while everyone has to figure out whether they are from their own gallery or one of the opponents.

Minecraft

A well-known game that we could not pass up is Minecraft. Minecraft is a game of placing blocks (bricks) and participating in adventures, being able to play with friends and have fun with the challenges of the game.
