problematic as they may be, one thing i like about movies like White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen is that at least ninety percent of the time, the antagonist is fueled by (or at least partially fueled by) the desire for vengeance on behalf of a lost loved one.

White House Down; main antagonist Martin Walker (former head of presidential detail) seeks revenge for his marine son that was killed in Iran (presumably due to a failed mission president Sawyer ordered)

Olympus Has Fallen: main antagonist (leader of terrorist group Koreans for United Freedom) Kang Yeonsak's mother was killed my an american land mine.

London Has Fallen: main antagonist (heavy weapons dealer) Aamir Barkawi's entire family was killed by an american drone strike - during his daughter's wedding, of all days.

yes, revenge isn't the sole drive for these antagonists, but it's clearly the back-breaking straw for these people that pushes them over the edge. you gotta admit, there's something so pure about being loved so much, that your child/parent attempts to annihilate the most powerful nation in the world out of grief for you.

Rajkumar Santoshi and Salman Khan have a special bond. While the duo have worked together in the 1994 cult comedy, Andaaz Apna Apna, Salman has done a guest appearance for his ‘Raj Ji’ in two films – the Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif starrer Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani and the Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz fronted Phata Poster Nikhla Hero. In 2016, Rajkumar Santoshi was in talks with Salman for 2 films, an original rooted entertainer tentatively titled Daanveer and also the official adaptation of An Ode To My Father, which eventually was made by Ali Abbas Zafar as Bharat. In an exclusive candid chat with Pinkvilla, Rajkumar Santoshi opened up about his bond with Salman Khan Salman Khan will stand by the side of every person in need

“Salman Khan is a very good human being and people have a misplaced understanding of who he is. For me, he is a great friend, who never says no for anything. If some person in need reaches out to Salman, he will stand by their side. ‘Bhagwan Ke Ghar Der Hai, Par Andher Nahi. Salman Ka Bhi Aisa Hi Hai’, once you meet Salman, he will win you over,” says Rajkumar Santoshi, adding further that over and above being a good human being, Salman is a great actor too. “Personally, I feel, Salman is not getting good scripts off late. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was one of the good script he got and did a wonderful job there. He deserves good scripts.

”The director goes ahead to add that Salman can blend himself into any genre. “He can do Andaaz Apna Apna and even Lahore: 1947. But he often get’s stuck in his image. I don’t want Salman to be Salman, I want him to be the character. Like in Andaaz Apna Apna, we find Prem in it and not Salman. That’s my attempt. Even when I made film with Sunny Deol, he was the character and not himself,” Rajkumar Santoshi explains. The filmmaker, known for classics like Ghayal, Khakhee, Ghatak, Damini, Legend of Bhagat Singh and Andaaz Apna Apna to name some, however admits that being a superstar comes with own set of challenges.

Salman Khan should not be Salman Khan in all films

“He is a superstar, but he should not be Salman Khan in all films. Look at Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan and Tere Naam. He often scores big when he plays a character. Yes, maintaining an image is important but he has the Tiger Franchise for that. Now, I wish he does some subjects which challenge the actor in him,” he admits. Being close to Salman, is Rajkumar Santoshi planning to make a feature film with him anytime soon? He answers, “I have discussed 2-3 ideas with Salman and will take them forward at the right time. My family is a Salman Khan loyalist and every day, they remind me to meet Salman and make a film with him. Salman often meets me with so much love. I am ready to make a film with him and just waiting to get a go ahead. I look forward to make a very good film with Saman Khan.

”Salman aside, Rajkumar Santoshi is also in talks for a film with Aamir Khan. “Aamir is a very good friend of mine and I really respect him as an actor and a person. He sticks to the roots and really likes me. There’s a story, there’s a subject which I have developed for Aamir. I was going to meet him around the time of Laal Singh Chaddha release, but he has announced a break right now. I will narrate him the story when we meet and try to end his break. I will try and get him back on the film set soon,” he says.

In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Rao touched upon the subject of working with Aamir, who is now her ex-husband.

Jio Studios and Aamir Khan Productions’ Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, is just a few days away from its theatrical release. The film narrates the tale of India's heartland, and the subject is urban as well. The team has shot in the real locations of Sehore, located in Madhya Pradesh, and also added real-life villagers and locations as part of the film. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Kiran Rao talked about directing a comedy-drama, working on the story and how Laapataa Ladies came about. She even touched upon the subject of working with Aamir, who is now her ex-husband.

When asked how they have managed to maintain a great rapport even after their divorce, Rao said, “It's quite natural for us, in some ways, because we’ve worked together for more than almost two decades. So yeah, in 2004, we started going out, so 20 years. We've achieved a kind of working with them together and it's something that we enjoy doing and respect each other. A great deal. So that’s there and people keep asking where do you draw the boundaries? And how do you separate personal and professional? We don't. We just are, in some weird ways, there's no conscious separation. And I suppose working together is easier because we tap into each other's creative side very easily and what excites me I want to share with him and likewise with him. And we rely on each other for a lot of this sort of creative exchange. So that was something we didn't want to give up on. We knew that.”

She added, “And of course, the personal we have a family. I mean, it just doesn't make sense to sever that part of our lives. We were very happily separated. He has his life and I have mine but we are very much family and I don't see why that should change obviously if you can, unless it's some sort of problem.”

Presented by Jio Studios, Laapataa Ladies is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande. The film, which stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav along with Ravi Kishan, is releasing on March 1, 2024, and has been made under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, with the script based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. The screenplay and dialogue are written by Sneha Desai, while the additional dialogues have been jotted down by Divyanidhi Sharma.

Govt to e-auction 20 new mining blocks in J&K  

The Newscraving Desk Srinagar, January 1: The authorities will e-auction 20 new mining blocks in J&K. This information was revealed as Secretary, Mining, Amit Sharma held a comprehensive interaction session with Mining Lessees of the Union Territory while reviewing the working of the Mining department at Udyog Bhavan. There was a broad section of lessees who attended this meeting, physically as well as through virtual mode while O.P Bhagat, Director Geology & Mining, Arun Manhas, Additional Secretary Mining, Aamir Rather, Under Secretary Mining, Nisar Ahmed and Harbans Langeh, both Joint Directors Mining and all DMOs remained present. Secretary took a detailed review from the departmental officers regarding enhancement of revenues of the department in the upcoming last quarter through maximum royalty collection, seizures and penalties so as to supersede the already set annual targets. He disclosed that in upcoming January itself, Department is planning to e-auction at least 20 new blocks in twenty districts of the UT. Apart from this, target is on towards acquiring two major mineral blocks of Limestone and Lithium from GSI in this month which shall be a-auctioned by the department for the first time. Amit gave a patient hearing to multiple issues of the lessees especially relating to smooth conduct of e-Challan transactions and directed that there should be two nodal officers henceforth to handle portal related issues in both Jammu and Kashmir Divisions so that the lessees can have more efficient working in mining sector times to come. He also directed that a dedicated helpline should be created for facilitating public as well as lessees in conducting mining transactions through G2B2C portal geologymining.jk.gov.in in times to come. Several other important decisions were arrived during the meeting including holding regular interaction meeting with all the stakeholders by respective DMOs, more vigorous checking by divisional flying squads and submission of weekly progress reports to the Administrative Department, Director G&M submission of a proposal to enhance limit of Disposal Permits by the DMOs. It was decided before the conclusion of this Meeting that Secretary Mining alongwith Director G&M shall hold similar interaction session with Lessees and all stakeholders soon in Kashmir division so that their issues can be given spot redressal soon through it.
