The way I understand Persona awakenings...
The Investigation Team (sans Yu) and Futaba gained their Personas manually. The more natural way, we could say. The old way. The would-be user gained their assets personally to boot their Persona. However, this was still the hand-written version.
The Phantom Thieves (sans Futaba and Akira) also did it manually, but the 2.0 version. Not needing to walk all the way to retrieve the needed assets, they got them metaphorically shipped to their location and finished booting their Persona in half the time it took the Investigation Team to find their Shadows.
The P1 and P2 users (+Wildcards) gained their Personas by hiring a contractor. The expert acquired and installed all the proper assets for them and even added the latest features such as invoking them in the physical world or owning more than one at the same time. You could also get personalized real-time assistance! The devices are compatible too! You can call your contractor to transfer your Persona assets to another user! Totally worth the unspecified contract.
SEES (sans Minato/Minako and later Aigis) created their own program to boot their Personas. They are personalized with certain features such as using them in the physical world, but since they're the equivalent of homemade, they need a lot of requirements everytime they want to use them. Good news is that they also found a way to discard assets to save on time so anyone with a compatible device can use it. Kudos for actually making them as functionable as the normal awakenings, if a bit more trigger-happy.
The Masked Circle and Strega used a pirated website. That shit has virus, bro. Yo, they just stole your credit card number.

UsaMamo Week 2023 - Master Post
Thank you to everyone who participated, reblogged, commented, liked and gave kudos. Thank you to everyone who was a beta / cheerleader behind the scenes. This event turned out amazingly well and we are so happy to see both new faces and some old friends participate this year. (And don't forget about our "Meet the Creators" series, to learn a little more about people in this fandom)
To make sure none of the amazing works that have been created for this UsaMamo Week have been missed, we have compiled them all into this master post (in alphabetical order by the creator):
Stories:
@caelenath - UsaMamo Week 2023 - Day 4: Beach
The whole situation was any red-blooded man's dream—nine gorgeous women in swimwear, a dreamy sunset, and a legitimate excuse to ogle them from every angle.
But he had eyes for only one...
@daikon1 :
Moon Sake Bottle Action!
Somehow at a houseparty with Usagi, Mamoru feels totally out of his depth - until Minako suggests they liven things up a bit. But can an unusual talent for carnival games be leveraged into a kiss with his crush??
A Royal Audience
Once upon a time, there was an extremely self-centered mentor...
Ten Ways to Say 'I Love You'
A portrait of Usagi and Mamoru’s relationship over the years, told in letters, poems, and journal entries.
There Was Only One... Stowaway on the School Beach Trip
It was the perfect summer scheme... and then Mamoru had walked into the train compartment.
Mamoru's Anxiety: A Love Letter for Usagi!
Filling in a 'missing scene' from Usagi's Joy: A Love Letter From Tuxedo Mask - What does Mamoru think about Usagi receiving a love letter from his alter-ego?
Keyrings, and Chaos, and Gender Expectations, Oh My!
Galaxia may have been defeated, but the patriarchy is still alive and well. With some help from Sailor Moon, Mamoru has a few things to say about that!!
Fe(e)line
As Tsukino Usagi awoke one morning from pleasant dreams, she found herself transformed in her bed into an adorable kitty.
@goddessalthena :
Dear Mamo-chan
"I'll write. And I'll call," he promised. "So...I expect you to write me all the time."
"...I will," she vowed.
But only one of them kept their word.
Picture Perfect
It was a perfect day. Almost too good to be true.
Usagi & Mamoru share a few firsts as they bask in the first blush of young love.
@kaitoscarlett - The words I couldn't say
After their first night together, Usagi finds herself waking up alone in Mamoru's apartment. While waiting for him, she explores his book shelf and finds something, she probably shouldn't read.
@lilliebellfanfics :
Day 1: Kiss Game
Summary: Usagi and Mamoru are chosen as the next contestants in Minako's pop-up competitions. They expect something weird and zany like the previous ones... not a kissing game. Well, kissing or not, Usagi says bring it on.
Day 4: There was only one...
Usagi's investigating a series of energy bursts at Tokyo Dome City amusement park. With so many unknowns--what was the source of the energy? Was it Zoisite or a new enemy?--the last thing she wants to do is share a ride on the Ferris wheel with Mamoru.
Day 7: Midnight / Fireworks
"One thing I love about prompts is they get me writing for my WIPs! I bring you another scene from DFD, but this is much much later than the current arc. For reasons, Usagi ends up staying at Mamoru's place. Things get hot & steamy, and here's a scene from somewhere in the middle."
Day 5: Free Day
The Tsukino clan are about to hit the slopes as the next part of their winter competition. Usagi is a clear winner and she's excited to beat Shingo on the double black diamond and win points for her team... only Mamoru's never skied before. Shit.
(Also Christmas Markets and kissing)
@master-ray5 - Lips Of An Angel
Mamoru gets a call on his lunch break from his Ex in Japan.
@random-mailbox - Love Letter (Poem)
Poem inspired by the Stars arc in the Anime
@riverlethe - Game Night
Minako organizes (by throwing together at the very last minute) Game Night to help the senshi blow off some steam on a rare night off.
Rei picked a small red box up off the table. “‘Love Letter’?” she grimaced. “This is going to be a long night, isn’t it?”
@sailormoonandme - Year of the Rabbit. UsaMamo Week 2023
Unbeknownst to anyone else, Serenity and Endymion arrange a secret rendezvous on the beach. Manga Canon.
@speak-mnemosyne1 :
Trust
In a dark, cramped space with stifling air, something in the chemistry between two people transformed. The universe fell away and, in those seven minutes, actions had no consequences.
But this.. this felt more like Seven Minutes in Hell.
Magnolias
For the prince of Earth, there was only one girl in the entire Solar System with whom falling in love was forbidden..
Present
“Just for a year… but I may end up staying longer than that.” Mamoru tried to swallow back the words as they left his mouth. He hated lying to Usagi, hated the way her blue eyes looked up at him with oceans of love.
@spei-sidus :
Lucky Bunny
Day 1: Year of the Rabbit / Kiss Game
Forgiven
Sailor Moon is forgiven by Tuxedo Kamen for Serenity's final actions
An Ode to the Rose
Valentine's Day is coming up and the girls decide, since they weren't giving chocolates to anyone, to write love letters to give to their future boyfriends.
The Binoculars
A day at the beach leads Mamoru to ask Usagi out.
Free Day
Neo Queen Serenity goes back in time to go on a date with First Season Mamoru.
Like a Fairy
An injured Usagi leads the nijizuishou to not only replenish her energy, but also form the Ginzuishou.
Moonlight Musings
Some midnight musings for our roaming heroine.
@wishwars - Confessions Left Unsaid
At the end of Season 1, Episode 3 of the 90s anime, Usagi decides to write a love letter to Tuxedo Mask. What if Mamoru reads it?
Art:
@iiyasbssmdoodles - Day 6 - wings
@iamcharlotte88 - Three Levels of Kisses for Mamoru Chiba (artwork for @daikon1 Moon Sake Bottle Action! story)

20 Questions for Fic Writers Tag Game
Thank you @androxys for the tag!
1. how many works do you have on AO3?
I have 46 works on AO3 at the moment. There's a handful more spread over various other places, but at this point I've uploaded all of my back catalogue that I want to have archived there.
2. what's your total AO3 word count?
113,119 words. Which is pretty respectable given I tend not to write long pieces.
3. what fandoms do you write for?
Whatever is currently causing my brain to itch! At the moment that's most DC Comics, but I do have a few Yuri!!! on Ice drafts sitting around that I may or may not finish, at least one Girl Genius piece I could tidy up, a bunch of ATLA snippets, and I can frequently be provoked into writing Vorkosigan Saga if people pose the right scenarios.
4. what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
College Daze: a Yuri!!! on Ice SkyGem Retirement Challenge piece, where I don't bother with the reveal. It's three separate scenarios where people meet Yuuri as a college student in the US and don't know who he is. I'm entirely unsurprised it remains my most popular - it was a very popular challenge in the fandom and it's a lot more accessible and pandering to fandom tastes than some other stuff I write.
Find Out What It Means To Me: an immediate sequel to Yuri!!! on Ice, set around Japanese Nationals. Yuuri doubts himself but succeeds and finds how much love and support he has from the whole Japanese skating community. I love this piece because it's very much a balance of things I enjoy (fiddly technical details) and characterisation.
the picture frames have changed and so has your name: DC Comics. What if Dick no longer loved Tim? What if Dick got Morrison Disease? Ahahaha I think you all know this one. It's my big DC piece so far, so I'm not surprised it's up here. It also contains female characters that casual DC fans have never heard of in major roles, so I'm also not surprised it doesn't get the attention fanon-based material does in this fandom.
Little Chick in a Nest: Yuri!!! on Ice. Victor introduces Yuuri to Lilia, without realising that Minako was also a famous prima ballerina. The YOI fandom loves Minako's Benois, but it's a tiny set dressing detail; Victor probably overlooked it and nobody ever talks about Minako as a famous dancer. I had a lot of fun setting up Victor to put his foot in it.
there's an endless road to rediscover: DC Comics. Dick and Tim playfight in the Cave and Damian misreads the situation. I think this one is popular just because of the interplay between the characters, and it was my first attempt at trying to get my head around Damian as a character.
5. do you respond to comments?
Pretty much always. It's the time I spent on LJ coming through, because comments are for talking, and if you talk to me I'll talk back. If you're waiting on a response it's usually because I'm formulating some massive post. Also I tend to meet people where they pitch their comment - the longer and more detailed it is the more detail and discussion you'll get back.
6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'll hold your memory in my hands tonight. It's pretty hard to beat this one for angst in terms of the subject matter. (I still giggle to myself over the pun in this title because it's dreadful) Anyway CTE is something I have a lot of feelings about and they recently diagnosed two women as having suffered CTE due to domestic violence, which is horrific and really shows the long term problems and dangers from family violence.
Then there's A Duty to Your Family and Soft, Small, Silent, Still, one of which contains attempted infanticide and the other which contains canonical accidental toddler death, so you know. When I give heads up warnings I tend to mean them.
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
...Happiest? hmmmm. I have a bunch of fluff, but probably Find Out What It Means To Me for YOI, Herds of Little Vorkosigans for Vorkosigan Saga, and These Small Hours for DC Comics?
Yes okay that's two baby fics and the one where everyone tells Yuuri he's the best.
8. do you get hate on fics?
Almost none that I'm aware of; there's occasionally a bit of pedantry on the Vorkosigan Saga fics but that's from known notorious figures in the fandom and I largely ignore them. If anyone's busy having a hate on for my fics they're kind enough to do it the correct way, which is privately where I can't see it.
9. do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nope. The closest I get is playing around with innuendo at times in my writing. I'd really rather insinuate and then fade to black, it's heaps less awkward to write.
10. do you write crossovers?
I was going to play good old 'what do you mean by crossover' as far as DC Comics goes, but the answer is a frank yes, because I've got a West Wing & Grease crossover drabble I'm Not Pregnant which is leveraging Stockard Channing appearing in both.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I've ever noticed, and I honestly suspect it's unlikely to happen. I would need to write things that get more attention than I currently get, designed to hit fandom popular tropes.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No. None of my Vorkosigan Saga stuff is popular enough to get a Russian translation and it doesn't fit the preferred tropes of that end of fandom anyway.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nothing I've ever specifically published as fic. I do have some commentfic over the years where there's been back and forth between me and someone else, but alas commentfic is a dying breed in fandom these days.
(and it's a LOT more informal than proper cowriting)
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
All time favourite? Oh gosh. Probably Wally/Norah from Billabong, which hits just so many of my favourite notes for a relationship. Nothing for me will ever beat Wally throwing himself at Norah's mercy to confess that he would rather have died than Jim as he's 'nobody's dog', and Norah claiming him as her own.
I've loved those two since I was a little kid, and you know how it is with ships you acquire in that formative period.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
I remain hopeful about a lot of my stash but I just can't see myself finishing a piece I have about Steph's baby and Helena Kyle. It's a fun scenario, but I cannot work out the villain who came after them both, and so it remains a setting without a plot.
16. What are your writing strengths?
From what people have said to me: I'm pretty good at paring down language and telling a lot of story in small scenes and understatement. There's a bunch of compliments I've had over the structure of TES 34/64 that I treasure, and everyone lost their minds over "the shoes had eventually come in handy. For the funerals." in a gap where a parent should be.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Oh, this is something I have strong feelings about. I don't like loan words being translated and multilingual fandoms often have a working level of loan words that is higher than background use: think for example the amount of French commonly used when discussing ballet. So I tend to think you should use languages at the level of comfort that the fandom has for them.
It often comes down to the fluency of the characters in the scene - I think dialogue in another language can be quite powerful if some of the characters understand it and others don't, because you can leverage that variation in understanding in your audience. However personally I'm more likely to note what languages are being used in dialogue tags than arrange for a translation.
I do try to localise for word choice to the setting of a fic but at this point I've been in fandom too long and and I'm too stubborn to localise spelling for my writing.
Which means if I were to write Wellington Paranormal fic I would probably be using my extremely scanty Māori mixed through the dialogue; I wouldn't bother translating kia ora or whānau for instance. But on the other hand I'm not going to write in another language unless it makes sense for the story to do so.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
That I published? Harry Potter. Which I'm not ashamed of or upset over, really. It was a good fandom to learn how fandom worked in, and it certainly inoculated me against a lot of nonsense behaviour later on. I still have friends I made back then, I learned a lot about how Internet communities function and behave, and it's sort of weird to have things I was on the fringe of and have contemporary memories of occurring having become Fandom Lore.
20. Favourite fic you've written?
Oh damn. Hmmm. Look, probably the picture frames have changed and so has your name, because I'm super proud of myself for finishing it, but in terms of underrated pieces I have to to point to the Mother's Day series, particularly Tea for Two, because DC mothers deserve so much more love.
I don't have anyone specific to tag so let's make it an open offer.

So, I think the Viz dub of Sailor Moon is unquestionably the definitive English dub, no question about it. It blows DiC and Cloverway out of the water, and while I miss some of DiC's musical scores and songs, it is still clearly superior. With that said, these are the voices from those old dubs that I feel are just as good - and rarely, even better - than Viz's ones.
Tumblr media
Usagi - Tracey Moore (DiC). To this day, Tracey Moore might be the most believable voice Usagi has ever had. Kotono Mitsuishi and Stephanie Sheh may be more definitive, but both are clearly putting on a high-pitched voice, whereas Moore's high-pitched voice sounded natural, like a real teenage girl's. More importantly, she nailed Usagi's character. Beyond Terri Hawkes being completely failed by her incompetent fanboy of a voice director who lacked all objectivity when it came to her and Linda Ballantyne being miscast, neither of them got Usagi's character right, voicing her as if she's a regular teenage girl which Usagi is not: she's a 14 year old who starts out with the maturity of a 7 year old. Moore had that childish quality down perfectly, as well as the heroic quality as Sailor Moon. That she ended up voicing the character the least out of anyone due to DiC rushing production is absolutely criminal.
Ami - Karen Bernstein (DiC). C'mon, how can you not like that odd Trans-Atlantic accent she gives Ami? Or the way she says "Mercury Bubbles - BLAST!" It sounds so appealing.
Rei - Katie Griffin (DiC/Cloverway). Now I love Cristina Vee, and kudos to Emily Barlow for temporarily filling in for Katie and giving a damn fine impression. But something about Katie's voice for Rei just sounds, much like Tracey Moore as Usagi, natural. I tend not to hear someone putting on a voice performance with Katie; I just hear Rei / Sailor Mars herself.
Makoto - Susan Roman (DiC/Cloverway). She did a great job. Not much else to say.
Minako - Emily Barlow (Cloverway). I will say that Stephanie Morgenstern did a far better job in the Pioneer-issued DiC movie dubs than she did in the show proper, but I still felt she failed when it came to conveying Minako's comedic side. Emily Barlow, fresh off of filling in for Katie Griffin as Mars, did a great job with that part of Minako's character. She was hilarious.
Mamoru - Vincent Corazza (DiC/Cloverway). Rino Romano was good as Mamoru but not as Tuxedo Mask, while Toby Proctor sucked as both. While he's no Robbie Daymond, Vincent Corazza is still the first to actually do the voices for Mamoru and his alter-ego well.
Artemis - Ron Rubin (DiC/Cloverway). Ron Rubin took a long time to get this voice down, voicing him too deeply in his first two episodes and then too high and scratchy for most of the DiC dub afterwards. But by the movies and Cloverway, he'd settled into an appropriate sounding voice for the character, nailing both his even-tempered and his comedic moments.
Shingo - Julie Lemieux (DiC/Cloverway). Here it is: a rare case of an old dub voice being much better than the Viz dub counterpart. I have no idea why Nicolas Roye was cast by Viz, but it didn't work. Julie Lemieux's voice actually sounds like a young boy's and is fitting to hear coming out of Shingo's mouth, rather than endlessly distracting like hearing Roye's is.
Naru - Mary Long (DiC/Cloverway). "It's Mawwwwwly!" Look, take the memeable accent out of the equation and Mary Long still put on a sweet and earnest performance as Usagi's best friend. And while I normally prefer Danielle Judovits, Mary's acting in Nephrite's death scene absolutely puts her to shame. It truly sounds like a girl screaming and crying as her love dies.
Chibiusa - Stephanie Beard (Cloverway). It's Suga BayBee, do I need to explain more?
Queen Beryl - Naz Edwards (DiC). The only issue I have with Naz Edwards is that she often wasn't directed to keep her voice down when she should in a scene, but that's not her fault. That aside, she was incredible as Queen Beryl, giving a theatrical performance that is both amusingly camp when it needed to be and maliciously terrifying when it needed to be. I honestly think Viz lucked out, as Cindy Robinson is perhaps the only voice actress I know of who is capable of matching Naz vocally. It is very difficult for me to choose between them.
Jadeite - Tony Daniels (DiC). Kevin Lund could've been great as Nephrite but he sucked due to crappy direction, Kirsten Bishop was great as Zoisite but the gender was all wrong, and Denis Akayama was wildly inconsistent as Kunzite. Tony Daniels as Jadeite is the only one who got it down perfectly, with a suitably smug, sadistic, raspy voice that could also disguise itself whenever the character was disguising himself. I prefer Todd Haberkorn, especially since he can do equally well as Crystal's Jadeite, but Tony Daniels was still great.
Ail - Vincent Corazza (DiC). Look, Brian Beacock is more accurate to the Japanese voice and has a better script, but I just love Vincent Corazza's dorkier take. It's just so lovable!
En - Sabrina Grdevich (DiC). Look, Dorothy Fahn is more accurate to the Japanese voice and has a better script, but I just love Sabrina Gredvich's dorkier take. It's just so lovable!
Grandpa Hino - John Stocker (Cloverway). Another time an old dub voice surpassed Viz! Michael Sorich does great and all, but John Stocker is a perfect match to the Japanese voice and even looks a lot like the character in real life! It was a casting match made in Heaven.
Rubeus - Robert Tinkler (DiC). For a third time, the old dub surpasses the new dub. Steve Staley worked better for Rubeus in Crystal, whereas Robert Tinkler did a far better job embodying the far more monstrous version in the 90s anime, with a deep voice prone to bouts of unhinged laughter. He really made Rubeus a character that you loved to despise.
Esmeraude - Kirsten Bishop (DiC). This was Bishop's best role, IMO. She had already displayed a great cackling laugh as Zoisite, so her then playing Esmeraude was perfect.
Saphir - Lyon Smith (DiC). Not much to say here. He did good.
Demande - Robert Bockstael (DiC). Sexy but creepy voice is fittingly sexy but creepy.
Wiseman - Tony Daniels (DiC). Tony did as good a job as Wiseman as he did with Jadeite, which is why it's so frustrating that he kept getting hampered by needless vocal effects.
Professor Tomoe - Jeff Lumby (Cloverway). Jeff Lumby did an excellent job being hammy, sinister, intelligent and hilarious sounding. He was clearly having a total blast in this role.
Diana - Loretta Jafelice (Cloverway). Her high, squeaky voice was annoying, but perfect.
Fisheye - Deborah Drakeford (Cloverway). What is fascinating about Deborah's performance is that even as the fact was being censored for TV, she still voiced the character like a trans woman. There are several occasions where you can hear a masculine quality seep through even though it's a female voice actress. She deserves mad props for that.
Hawk's Eye - Benji Plener (Cloverway). He sounds a lot like Michael Yurchak, just slightly more posh, and something about his pink hair and outfit makes a posh tone fit him well.
Pegasus - Rowan Tichenor (Cloverway). Now hear me out on this last one - I am saying he was good as Pegasus. A soft, deep and dignified voice makes sense for him, and makes him more mysterious. The mistake came when they didn't cast someone else to voice Helios, as that voice coming out of him is more jarring than Nicolas Roye's voice coming out of Shingo!
Honorable Mention: The Amazoness Quartet. Their old dub voices were fine, but I can't say they qualify for this list since their Viz dub voices outperform them to an extreme degree.

20 Questions for Writers
Thanks for the tag, @they-lived! I'm not going to tag anyone, but if you want to steal this, feel free.
How many works do you have on AO3?
223
What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,782,322
What fandoms do you write for?
Currently, my main fandoms are Yuri!!! on Ice and Sailor Moon, but I've written for Fruits Basket, Kaleido Star, Harry Potter, Card Captor Sakura, Someday's Dreamers, Princess Tutu, Fire Emblem, and Super GALS in the past.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Midnight Magic (Card Captor Sakura) with 415
No Longer Alone (Kaleido Star) with 167
One Kiss (Sailor Moon) with 152
Realization (Sailor Moon) with 152
Distraction (Sailor Moon) with 138
Do you respond to comments?
Yes, usually!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably "Do Not Cry For Me" (Sailor Moon)?
What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Gah, that's a tough one when you've written over two hundred fics. Um… Maybe "To Be By Your Side" since the rest of the fic is so angsty, the ending is especially happy?
Do you get hate on fics?
Occasionally. The most memorable was years ago when someone wrote literal PAGES of unhinged reviews on FF.net because I dared to write a Setsuna/Mamoru fic. I didn't even read them all because it was just…wow. (Apparently, the person behind it was an ex-friend of someone who had contacted me about the fic in the past? Like, they had hacked into their account and harassed the authors the person had sent private messages to for some reason? It was a weird situation. I've since deleted the reviews, of course.)
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes, I do, on occasion. I've written all kinds, mostly het, but some m/m and f/f, and even a couple of threesomes (f/f/m and m/m/f).
Do you write crossovers?
Once. I wrote a Sailor Moon/Super GALS fic. (I did have some ideas for others, most notably a Sailor Moon/Witch Hunter Robin fic and a Sailor Moon/Kaleido Star story, but I never got around to doing much with those ideas.)
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Twice that I'm aware of. The first was in the days of A Sailor Moon Romance. I don't even remember which story it was (I'm thinking "Sweet Dreams"), but what was weird was that the summary they used had absolutely nothing to do with my fic, with a completely different pairing. I may have never even noticed they had stolen my story if not for the fact that they claimed it was a Minako/Yaten fic, and I happen to be a M/Y fan. In hindsight, I wonder if they actually did write a story fitting the summary and just uploaded my fic by mistake? That's the only explanation that makes sense. The other one is probably still up, since FF.net no longer moderates their site. They took my fic "Daddy's Little Girl" and just switched the names and descriptions to make it a Gundam Wing fic.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, a ficlet into Russian.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not technically, but back in the day, SuperKateB did give me co-writing credits on her story "Love Chain", since it was based on my original idea and I helped her with some of the plot points. I didn't do any actual writing, though, just editing.
What is your all-time favorite ship?
Chibi-Usa/Helios from Sailor Moon will always be my number one, but Otayuri (Otabek/Yuri) from Yuri!!! on ice is a very, very close second!
What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
"Metamorphosis", my fic exploring how Helios originally became priest of Elysion. I've been stuck on it for years and years, so I doubt it'll ever be finished.
What are your writing strengths?
Oh, I don't know…
What are your writing weaknesses?
Description, without a doubt. Oh, and writing kisses. I HATE, HATE, HATE writing kisses!!!!!!
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I'm fine with it, as long as it's somehow made clear what the translation is, whether it's by context clues, an author's note, or whatever. I've done it many times myself.
First fandom you wrote for?
Sailor Moon
Favorite fic you’ve written?
I'd say it's a three-way tie between "To Be By Your Side" (Sailor Moon), "The Bonds We Choose" (Yuri!!! on Ice), and "Blood On His Hands" (Kaleido Star).

Is This the End? Is currently posted. I am currently working on Act 71 of Chaos Theory.... the act where Seiya and Usagi have a really nasty fight. That one will win out when it is posted at the end of June.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Runaway Date. I had so much fun writing a short silly fic featuring Minako and Yaten.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Yes. The story is tagged Mamoru/Usagi and Usagi/Seiya. Some of the MamoUsa die hard shippers are umm.... passionate about their ship and will not accept anything else. If a story features both typically one will win out. Then there are the random ones on FF.net.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No. I have a hard enough time trying to writing any scene that is remotely steamy. So much editing to get to what it looks like by the time it is posted.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I have never done a crossover.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes. I have contacted FF.net multiple times and have never received a response. A person stole my first ever fan fic I posted on A Sailor Moon Romance and changed the name to their own. They posted part of the story. The posting stopped right around the time ASR crashed. I still have the original that I wrote when I was 13. It is staying on my computer and will not see the light of day. It is so bad with so many mistakes. However, I do like the re-write of it, Rebirth.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! I received a request earlier this year to translate Rebirth into Russian. One chapter was posted on a Russian fanfiction site and then it disappeared. I don't know what happened.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Sorta? When I was in high school. SailorStars Awakening. I floated an idea to a friend what would it be like if Usagi was consumed by Chaos? It started as one idea and the co-author kind of took it and ran with it. Decades later we have Chaos Theory, how I originally pictured the concept.
Then there is the What if the Starlights Appeared in the R Season of Sailor Moon fic on FF.net. I have debated about re-writing that one but I realllly like the world I've built with Chaos Theory.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Is it shocking to read Sei/Usa for the 90s anime?
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I finish all the fics I post on-line. Might take years or decades, but it will have an ending!
16. What are your writing strengths?
I used to hate battle scenes but over the years I feel like I've gotten a lot better writing them.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
The steamy scenes... so I'm trying to work on them.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Hinted at in this story at best. I don't mind seeing dialogue in other languages. Google Translate!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
When I was ten I wrote a Power Rangers story but didn't know it was called fan fiction at the time. First story I wrote that knew it was fan fiction was the stolen Sailor Moon one mentioned above.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Chaos Theory. I keep coming back to the story even though I think I'm done because I realize I have more I want to write.

Minako is so smitten and impressed by Rei. She looks so genuinely happy thinking about Rei. 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Minako's expression immediately drops when Artemis calls out to her. She knew what was coming - the reminder. She could tell from the tone, which leads me to believe this is a conversation the two of them have quite often.
Artemis's voice actor was absolutely fantastic here. (And I really like him, imagine my shock when I learnt PGSM Artemis has the same voice actor as Kudo Shinichi in Detective Conan. LMAO) Artemis was quite casual and peppy chatting with Minako earlier, but here, his voice and tone had gotten deeper and softer when giving his very gentle but firm warning/reminder.
A bit unfortunate the subtitles are really messy here. The dialogues are a bit more nuanced with listening for negations that are easy to miss. But I feel it's imperative for me to clarify because this is such a crucial scene for Minako's backstory. Throughout the series, Minako uses the importance of the mission as her reason and shield to justify many of her actions. But this conversation here proves that ultimately, what shaped Minako's decision to bear everything on her own because she doesn't want the others to feel sad/hurt/heartbroken when the inevitable happens. This was a self-imposed isolation, not by the necessity of Senshi's business.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Artemis's second "Minako" here was said even softer. It's as if Artemis himself is also heartbroken thinking about it, feeling sad for Minako.
It's extremely important for me to point this out because Act 11 and 12 portrays Artemis to be someone who is very mission-driven, as far as scolding Minako when she chose to not show up as Sailor V in Act 11 when Minako was upset from meeting Usagi. It's unfortunately relatively easy to assume Artemis was putting pressure on Minako to tackle the Senshi business. But as the story unfolds, especially when we get near Act 36 and beyond, it's obvious that Artemis truly is on Minako's side - as in he loves her and wants what's best for her.
Here, earlier in the storyline, Artemis and Minako are still on the same path and they keep each other accountable for sticking to the path. Between the information revealed later on, it's very likely this was Minako's decision to keep her distance from the other, a decision that was being supported and co-executed by Artemis. But as time runs out, ie. Act 40-46, Artemis leans into Rei as he too wants to change Minako's mind. (I'm gonna ugly cry on this.)
This scene is absolutely heartwrenching to watch especially knowing what comes next. But if this is someone's first time watching this, it's such a fascinating and mysterious plot that's being sprinkled in, especially since this is a brand new plot that doesn't exist in any other Sailor Moon canon materials.

so i'm still watching the hebrew dub of sailor moon and let me tell y'all, it's perfect. the actors match their characters so well, idk who's the genius that found them all somewhen in 2010, but kudos
the quality of the dub kinda sucks because it's old, and i don't know why but often the characters talk a bit fast and there are a lot of filler words, so many. like, at least 60% of the sentences need to have 3 words cut off, i don't know why they did that considering the japanese is quite fast
but the actors, perfect match. my only complaints is that chibiusa and hotaru sometimes sound too old, and haruka sometimes too low. i looovee how minako sounds a bit more mature than the rest of the girls, it's great. i adore to the moon and back elad shamucha as ami, my darling girl, and i remember being so upset her va was replaced in her s4 new transformation episode (!), but shira naor did a great job, it suits to the more serious tone of the last two seasons
(we are not getting into the mess that is the starlights voiced by men who had to pitch their voice to sounds like women after, i'm only in episode 12. and that is a whole issue.)
but let me tell you about michal reshef, the voice of usagi. she did an incredible, amazing, show stopping performace as the main character. she captured the voice (literally) of usagi so well, it's a joy to see usagi grow up with her performance. she's the voice of my childhood, and i'm so glad that she came back to finish the last half of s5, because hadar shachaf did her best, but she just didn't capture the essence of usagi as well.
michal carried usagi so so well, i can't imagine how difficult her performance of usagi shouting "crisis, make up!" over and over again was, both physically and emotionally. it's one of her most memorable moments as usagi for me

Why yes, I did just screenshot every single line of dialogue here, thank you for asking.
And honestly, kudos to Rei here for her attempt at reaching out. She's trying to understand, but Minako's motivations just don't make any sense. And her attitude isn't helping! Plus, it's not like Minako managed to solo the youma either.
To Rei, Minako must really seem like an arrogant Princess right now, and she can't stand it. What a change from their first meeting, when Minako seemed so delightfully normal despite her teen idol status.

I know I haven't posted all of them here yet, but this is just something fun I can do in the meantime and preemptively have available. The puns are the really fun parts, after all. Just found out that my new favorite Tatsuro Yamashita's song "The door into summer" was written in the main protagonist's voice from Robert A. heinlein's book with the same name which I already read years ago. That book was the only one from this author I've read. In fact, I practically got interested by it in the first place by reading the wikipedia's page on the book. The incident about the author's cat kept crying at the opened door in winter (and his wife's commented that he's looking for a door into summer) was so cute and somehow also have that mystical element about it.
The book has one of my favorite sci-fi trope. Time traveling! Not much of a complicated plot by time traveling's standard but I like it. Did not care for the romance though.
Anyway the song is very groovy and smooth. I like the bass line and there's this "Rikky-Tikki-Tavi" repeating in the hooks. I don't understand japanese and I didn't look up the lyric translation at first. So I thought that is just something that was made up to fill in the hook lines but it turns out it's the long version of the girl "Ricky" 's name in the book which is actually his wife's childhood nickname. Well, that's go to show Tatsuro Yamashita must've been Robert A. Heinlein's fan to write this song with easter eggs like this!
