Milo’s life could never have been described as easy. It was by the time that he turned six months old that he was abandoned for the first time as his mother, Helen, had left him and their family in the dust, overwhelmed by the stress of her accidental infant. When he was six, his father, Clive, left him home alone to go get groceries and failed to return at all. Milo managed to keep himself fed until two days later when his older sister, Melody, came to check on them, concerned from the lack of contact from their father. When he told her that their dad had been gone for two days, she realized that he had been abandoned by another parent and took him in, taking complete guardianship of the small boy. Milo was sixteen when his sister came home from work to find him crying in the bathroom. After a lot of prompting, he finally came out to her, explaining that a girl he took out had wanted to hook up and he couldn’t do it. She hugged him and told him she loved him and it was okay to love who he loved. 

At seventeen, Milo grew tired of seeing his sister struggle bill after bill, even having to work two or three jobs to keep them afloat. Knowing he was never part of her life plan killed him as he wanted her to have anything she wanted in life. She refused to let him get a job, wanting him to focus on school. Finally, Milo went to a clinic and lied about his age and donated sperm many times over. He never thought any of them would be used, too young to think of the possible repercussions of this action. He never told Melody.

Milo was working on his degree in criminal psychology when his sister came home and told him that they needed to move, due to the increased violence of her abusive boyfriend. The two fled and went from their home in Canada to Colombus, Ohio. They were there for a few weeks and Milo enrolled in school while his sister got a job. They were just about to move into their apartment when Melody’s ex-boyfriend showed up at their hotel and shot her. Milo tackled him and got the gun from him, ending in him shooting and killing the man. Luckily for him, Forest Hawthorne was their neighbor at the motel. The other werewolf helped him clean up the scene and stayed with him while he grieved his sister. He even helped Milo through his first full moon and the two began a relationship that ended when Milo freaked out upon hearing that Forest loved him, having become convinced that there was a correlation between someone loving him and them dying. He was alone for a few years, finishing his degree and working as a criminal psychologist. In 2003, he met Forest and (Name TBD) at a New Years party and just like that was attached to the pair of them by the hip. He and Forest continued an almost friends with benefits relationship, Milo still desperately in love with him but unable to say it. But in 2022, Forest and (TBD Name) took care of some werewolf hunters and Milo, determined to find them a safe place, went to take a look at Romulus.

When first arriving in Romulus, Milo found himself an apartment and set up the book section of TriBeCa, a book store, coffee shop, and music store. Milo loved everything about the town and was friendly to everyone he met, enthralled by the safety of the open atmosphere. His friends came to join him and TriBeCa was complete. He thought things would be simple now, or as simple as it could be as it could be while he was sleeping with the man he was in love with, no strings attached. Of course, then Forrest found Landon Kincaid. They were childhood friends, almost childhood sweethearts, and Milo finally overcame his phobia and told Forrest he loved him the same night he told him to move on and take the chance with Landon, the same night he finally told Forrest goodbye in that sense. 

That was before Tate Brandt showed up in his life. She revealed that she was his daughter from his donations, that she was bounced from home to home and even harmed in some. Her distrust of him broke his heart and her vowed to learn how to be a father and give her the love and nurturing she had never had before. He has his second bedroom set up for her in case she ever wanted to move in, secretly hoping for it though he’d never tell her for fear of pressuring her.

She looked back and forth between her phone and the man at the cash register. It was the same guy, but for some reason she couldn’t move her feet over there. The Tribeca store was nice and she hated to ruin his day, but it was now or never. Suddenly, Tate took in a deep breath and pounded her feet to walk over to the man.

“You Milo Adkins, sir?” she asked, trying to sound like she was a cop here on official business (though she didn’t have a whiff of authority about her, and she was really rather young). “I need to talk to you in private. Do you have an office we can speak in?” She was shaking. Oh God, why was she shaking? She was so obvious about it, but thankfully her voice had been seemingly even. Right?

“Excuse me,” she said, walking up to the man who, hopefully, was as harmless as he appeared. If a little disheveled. “Do you have a payphone in here? I didn’t realize my phone had died until after I left work and my sister may call me asking what’s for dinner and... oh, you know, can’t live without our phones in this day and age, right?” She shrugged, a little uneasy. Not because of him, not even due to any danger as they were safely indoors, just because she felt awkward. “Or maybe you have a phone charger behind that desk of yours?” she grinned.

She stopped at a cafe on her way to TriBeCa... not The Sweet Spot because Peter still worked there, and she didn’t have his work schedule memorized anymore. And she wanted to surprise Milo Adkins so even though the food at TriBeCa was harmless and fine, she wanted to show up on his doorstep with something that wasn’t from his own friend’s hands, but was something new and unique. She’d even bought a candle and paid for them to write his name on it, and a few people turned their heads as if they knew a ‘Milo’ in town. Did he get around?!

She opened the doors to TriBeCa and smiled at Jack, if a little awkwardly, as she made her way to the book section in search of Milo. “Da-duh-duh-duhhhh,” she sang at him as he turned around from putting some books on the shelf like an old, gnarly librarian. “I’ve got something for you, old man. How old are you turning again? Fifty?” Little did she know his friend Forest was in fact fifty. 

Ivy put the cupcake on the counter and pulled out a lighter just for this occasion. She lit the candle and said, “Make a wish!”

The only thing about the Riverborn that brought him any pause was the year without any and the sudden appearance of another. The pattern both intrigued him and brought him weariness but he has full intent to stay in town, at least unless he feels harm is coming to those he cares about the most.

It had taken weeks for Tate to be able to see Milo again in person. Her emotions were all screwed but so far he had given her her space and respected her boundaries, even when she acted like a pregnant woman with all of her stupid rules. Part of her thought she came up with ridiculous things just to see if he would stick it out and stay around. She was so ready to lose another person in her life, but he never showed an ounce of frustration. She wanted to cry some nights when laying in bed thinking that she had a father who probably cared more than her previous one, but she also knew how easily that could be ripped from her, how one wrong word could mean a slap to the face and a bloody lip and she would often cry herself to sleep, not wanting her real father, her only father, to hurt her like she had been in the past. 

The last time she saw her biological father, they had gone out for ice cream a few weeks ago but after some nudging from the older, Tate finally agreed to meet him at his house for a real meal, for real food, for a dinner-daddy-daughter-date (thankfully he hadn’t used those exact words, otherwise she would’ve pulled her hair out). 

After hesitantly knocking on the door they said their pleasantries and she saw Milo wipe his hands on a towel and swing it over his shoulder. It was... it was new. It looked so easy, but she had never seen someone do it in front of her. It made him a real person, somehow. Like he was trying. Like he was good at cooking, he had made more than those TV dinners or cold cereal in his lifetime, and it shouldn’t be shocking because he had so many years on her, but it was nice to know someone she was related to had some of their shit together in this hellscape called life. 

He led her to the table and quickly placed what he had made in front of her as she got situated in her chair. “You uh... you made this for me? Us, you. Us. You made this for us?” she asked, looking down at the food placed in front of her. She would’ve been happy sitting at the counter, sitting next to and not facing Milo, but the way her father had situated the placemats it appeared they were kitty-cornered to each other and she may have to look at the right half of his face.
