adventures in QA
(previous post in this series)
My shop in Advanced Midbody - Carbon Wing (AMCW) at Large Aircraft Manufacturer (LAM) is at the very end of the composite fabrication building. Hundreds of people carefully lay up a hundred foot long slab of carbon fiber, cure it, paint it, and then we totally fuck it up with out of spec holes, scrapes, primer damage, etc. The people who write up our many defects are from the Quality Assurance (QA) department.
Every single screw and rivet on a LAM aircraft can be traced back to the mechanic who installed it. Back when even everything was done in pen and pencil, it was joked that the paper used to produce an aircraft outweighed the plane itself. Now that everything is computer-based, of course, the amount of paperwork is free to grow without limit.
(Haunting the factory is endless media coverage of an emergency exit door plug popping out of an Advanced Smallbody - Upengine (ASU) plane during a routine flight a few months ago. Unlike that airframe's notorious problems with MCAS, this was a straightforward paperwork screwup by a line worker: the bolts were supposed to be tightened, and they weren't.
As a result the higher ups have visited hideous tribulations on non-salaried workers. Endless webinars, structured trainings. Here at the Widebody plant we have received a steady flow of refugees from the Narrowbody factory, hair-raising tales of receiving one hundred percent supervision from the moment they clock in to the second they clock out from FAA inspectors who can recommend actual jail time for any lapse in judgement.)
A single hydraulic bracket Installation Plan (IP) is around four brackets. The team leads generally assign two bracket IPs per mechanic, since each bracket set is something like a foot apart, and while working on the plane is bad enough it's much worse to have another mechanic in your lap.
Let me list the order of operations:
One: Find where you're supposed to install these brackets. This is harder than you might think.
Firstly, it's a hundred foot long plank of carbon fiber composite, with longitudinal stringers bonded to it to add stiffness. The stringers are pilot drilled in the trim and drill center, a truly Brobdingnagian CNC mill that trims off the composite flash at the edges and locates and drills part holes for us. But there's a lot of holes, so you must carefully find your set.
A minor difficulty is that the engineering drawings are laid out with the leading edge pointing up, while the wing panels in our cells hang from the trailing edge. Not so bad, you just rotate the paper 180 when orienteering, then rotate it back up to read the printed labels.
A major difficulty is that the drawings are from the perspective from the outside of the panel. But we work on the inside of the wing (obviously, that's where all the parts are installed) so we also flip the drawings and squint through the back of the paper, to make things line up.
Large Aircraft Manufacturer has a market cap of US$110 billion, and we're walking around the wing jig with sheets of paper rotated 180 and flipped turnways trying to find where to put brackets.
Oh well, we're paid by the hour.
Two: Match drill the aluminum brackets to the carbon fiber composite stringer. I can devote an entire post to the subtleties of drilling carbon fiber, but I can already tell that this post is going to be a miserable slog, so I will merrily skip over this step.
Three: Vacuum up all the carbon dust and aluminum swarf created during this process. This step is not optional, as your team lead will remind you, his screaming mouth clouding your safety glasses with spittle at a distance of four inches. LAM is very serious about FOD. Every jet airliner you've ever ridden in is a wet wing design-- each interstitial space is filled with Jet A. There is no fuel bladder or liner-- the fuel washes right over plane structure and wing hardware. Any dirt we leave behind will merrily float into the fuel and be sucked right into the engines, where it can cause millions in damage. No place for metal shavings!
If you are nervous about flying, avoid considering that all the hydraulic lines and engine control cables dip into a lake of a kerosene on their way from the flight deck to the important machines they command. Especially do not consider that we're paid about as much per hour as a McDonalds fry cook to install flight-critical aviation components.
Four: Neatly lay out your brackets on your cart, fight for a position at a Shared Production Workstation (SPW) (of which we have a total of four (4) for a crew of thirty (30) mechanics) and mark your IP for QA inspection as Ready To Apply Seal.
Four: Twiddle your thumbs. Similarly, we have three QA people for thirty mechanics. This is not enough QA people, as I will make enormously clear in the following steps.
Five: Continue waiting. Remember, you must not do anything until a QA person shows up and checks the box. Skipping a QA step is a “process failure” and a disciplinary offense. From the outside, you can observe the numerous QA whistleblowers and say “golly, why would a mechanic ever cut a corner and ignore QA?” Well...
Six: QA shows up. Theoretically, they could choose to pick up the mahrmax you prepared for them and gauge every single hole you've drilled. But since we're three hours into the shift and they're already twenty jobs behind, they just flick their flashlight across the panel and say “looks good" and then sprint away. Can't imagine why our planes keep falling out of the sky.
Seven: Apply the seal to the bracket. P/S 890 is a thick dark gray goop that adheres well to aluminum, carbon fiber, fabric, hair and skin. Once cured, it is completely immune to any chemical attack short of piranha solution, so if you get any on yourself you had better notice quick, otherwise it'll be with you as long as the layer of epidermis it's bonded to. LAM employees who work with fuel tank sealant very quickly get out of the habit of running their hands through their hair.
Eight: Now you wait again. Ha ha, you dumb asshole, you thought you were done with QA? No no, now you put up the job for QA inspection of how well you put the seal on the bracket. Twiddle your thumbs, but now with some urgency. The minute you took the bottle of seal out of the freezer, you started the clock on its "squeeze-out life." For this type of seal, on this job, it's 120 minutes. If QA doesn't get to you before that time expires, you remove your ticket, wipe off the seal, take another bottle out the freezer, and apply a fresh layer.
Nine: Optimistically, QA shows up in time and signs off on the seal. Well, you're 100 minutes into your 120 minute timer. Quickly, you slap the brackets onto the stringer, air hammer the sleeve bolts into position, thread nuts onto the bolts, then torque them down. Shove through the crowd and mark your IP "ready to inspect squeeze out"
Ten: Let out a long breath and relax. All the time sensitive parts are over. The criteria here is "visible and continuous" squeeze out all along the perimeter of the bracket and the fasteners. It is hard to screw this up, just glop on a wild excess of seal before installing it. If you do fail squeezeout, though, the only remedy is to take everything off, throw away the single-use distorted thread locknuts, clean everything up and try again tomorrow.
Eleven: QA approved squeeze out? Break's over, now we're in a hurry again. By now there's probably only an hour or two left in the shift, and your job now is to clean off all that squeeze out. Here's where you curse your past self for glopping on too much seal. You want to get it off ASAP because if you leave it alone or if it's too late in the shift and your manager does feel like approving overtime it'll cure to a rock hard condition overnight and you'll go through hell chipping it off the next day. You'll go through a hundred or so qtips soaked in MPK cleaning up the bracket and every surface of the panel within three feet.
Twelve: Put it up for final inspection. Put away all your tools. (The large communal toolboxes are lined with kaizen foam precisely cut out to hold each individual tool, which makes it obvious if any tool is missing. When you take a tool out, you stick a tool chit with your name and LAMID printed on it in its place. Lose a tool? Stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye, pal, because the default assumption is that a lost screwdriver is lurking in a hollow "hat" stringer, waiting to float out and damage some critical component years after the airplane is delivered.)
One tool you'll leave on your cart, however, is the pin protrusion gage. There is a minimum amount of thread that must poke outside of the permanent straight shank fastener's (Hi-Lok) nut, to indicate that the nut is fully engaged. That makes sense. But there's also a maximum protrusion. Why?
Well, it's an airplane. Ounces make pounds. An extra quarter inch of stickout across a thousand fasteners across a 30 year service life means tons of additional fuel burnt. So you can't use a fastener that's too long, because it adds weight.
On aluminum parts, it's hard to mess up. But any given composite part is laid up from many layers of carbon fiber tape. The engineers seemed to have assumed that dimensional variation would be normally distributed. But, unfortunately, we buy miles of carbon fiber at a time, and the size only very gradually changes between lots. When entire batches are several microns oversize, and you're laying up parts from fifty plies and an inch thick, you can have considerable variation of thickness on any given structural component. So you had better hope you had test fit all of your fasteners ahead of time, or else you'll be real sorry!
And, if you're really lucky, QA will show up five minutes before end of shift, pronounce everything within tolerance, then fuck off.
And that's how it takes eight hours to install eight brackets.

Rapid Repair Operation Process Standard Of Rolling Mill Plate Workshop
1. Upper and lower support rolls, work roll liners and rack mating surface repair process.
The first step: processing of the top wire hole and injection hole In the new liner plate processing top wire holes and injection holes, the specification of the top wire holes is M12, the specification of the injection holes is M10 X 1, the number of 6-12, but also according to the number of bolts installed and fastened liner plate, the horizontal and vertical distance between the two top wire holes to maintain at 300mm appropriate, the horizontal and vertical distance between the injection holes to maintain within 200mm appropriate, the distribution range As shown in the figure. (Remark: the top wire holes and material injection holes can be processed in advance during the process of liner plate processing) Step 2: Surface treatment (1) surface baking oil: the use of oxygen acetylene to repair the surface of the rack to be oil, moisture baked clean. (2) surface grinding or sandblasting treatment. (3) surface cleaning.
Step 3: Wipe the release agent and install the top wire The liner surface, liner fastening bolts and top wire thread surface are first cleaned with anhydrous ethanol (concentration 99.7%) and dried. Then a layer of SD7000 release agent is wiped on the surface and allowed to dry. The purpose of this is to prevent the liner and top wire from being bonded by the Sorey carbon nanopolymer material and to facilitate the removal and replacement of the liner. Finally, the top wire is installed onto the liner as shown in the figure. Step 4: Position and install the liner The liner is mounted to the frame and the two symmetrical liner plates on frame A and B get positioned simultaneously. This process requires precise measurement with laser distance setting instrument to ensure the accuracy of liner installation.
Step 5: Injection of carbon nanopolymer material through the top wire hole The gap between the edge of the liner and the frame is first sealed with carbon nanopolymer material to prevent material spillage during the injection process, and air venting holes are reserved at reasonable locations. The blended material is injected into the gap between the liner and the frame through the injection tool until the material spills out of the venting holes. Step 6: Cure the material, verify the size, and tighten the liner fixing bolts 2. Anvil and frame mating surface wear repair process. The first step: surface treatment (1) surface baking oil: the use of oxygen acetylene rack to be repaired surface oil, moisture baked clean. (2) surface grinding or sandblasting treatment. (3) Surface cleaning.
Step 2: Welding top wire As shown in the figure, weld the top wire on the edge of the anvil, the number should not be less than 4, and the specification of the top wire is larger than M12. Step 3: Blend and apply Solay carbon nanopolymer material (1) Calculate the volume of blended material required according to the wear depth and wear area, and then blend strictly according to the proportion, blending uniformly without color difference. (2) Clean the surface of the anvil iron with anhydrous ethanol and dry it. (3) Wipe a layer of release agent on the surface of the anvil and dry it. (4) Apply the blended material evenly to the surface to be repaired, apply evenly, the thickness size is larger than the depth size of the wear, and make the material fully combined with the metal surface during the application process. Step 4: Install and adjust the anvil Adjust the top wire and anvil fastening bolts, install the anvil, and reach the required position tolerance range value. Step 5: Material curing Above 20℃, keep the material curing naturally for 12 hours (or heating to 60℃ for 2 hours), then remove the top wire and tighten the anvil fixing bolt again to complete the repair. "Does the meeting have to be in my room?"
Jozu's room feels cramped with six commanders crammed inside. The Commander bedrooms, which double as their offices, aren't exactly spacious. They're still the only crew members who even have their own private quarters, so no one complains. Of the Commander's rooms, Jozu's is the largest, simply to accommodate the fact that Jozu's physical bulk is several times that of any other Commander. So naturally, Jozu's room is where they gather when they need to have the rare Secret Meeting, away from any of Pops's rooms or public spaces that anyone can walk into.
"I don't even know why we're here," Jozu mutters mostly to himself, perched awkwardly on the edge of his own bed. Vista and Rakuyo take up the rest of his mattress, because Izo's commandeered Jozu's desk and chair. Izo's even brought a mirror and makeup kit, and is putting eyeliner on Namur for some reason. Haruta's sitting on the floor by the door, to "keep watch," apparently.
"You can leave if you'd like, it's private anyway," Rakuyo smirks. He's only been let in on the secret because he'd been the one to make up the lie at lunch, announcing loudly that Haruta had actually shouted about marigolds in Izo's new perfume and not Marco. And oh yeah, Vista's allergic to them! Hence the overreaction, of course.
It's a miracle their other brothers bought the honestly bizarre lie, and Rakuyo secretly thinks that they most definitely heard but are bro enough to play along because the other Commanders looked so pathetically desperate for them to pretend it never happened. But well, it worked out for Rakuyo, who was able to corner Izo and Haruta (along with a still very much spooked Vista), to demand answers for so generously providing a coverup, no matter how shoddy.
(Rakuyo can just imagine how the rumor mill is churning right now, now that everyone other than the night shift is crammed into the barracks and lights are out. But ah well, that's not his business, at least until he gets some answers himself.)
Which leads them to now, in a Secret Meeting to reveal all.
Jozu heaves a massive sigh that jostles the other two Commanders taking up his bed, before getting up with a creak. It's very clear that Rakuyo is especially eager to start getting all the dirt or whatever this is about, and perhaps that really isn't something he wants to be a part of.
Jozu doesn't much like being chased out of his own room, but he doesn't really like gossip anyway. Maybe it would be better to step out, and not have to deal with the drama afterwards.
"Maybe I'll go take a walk..." Some fresh night air doesn't sound too bad.
"Yeah, we'll just be talking about Marco's upcoming wedding," Haruta chortles, even as he moves out of the way to let Jozu through.
Jozu freezes. Rakuyo makes a little oooh sound.
Jozu sits back down, and Vista and Rakuyo grunt as the mattress sinks towards their brother's greater mass.
"Wait, since when was it a wedding?" Namur's eyes widen. "I only know about his proposal, not even a formal engagement yet..."
There must be several steps between "proposal" and "wedding," or so Namur thought. But perhaps he's just misunderstanding humans once again.
"Hush, don't move, you'll ruin your eyeliner," Izo scolds, and Namur shuts up, wisely, because everyone knows how Izo feels about ruined eyeliner.
"Wait, wait, wait," Jozu starts, because he's just heard several things in rapid succession that he's failing to process. Jozu prides himself on fast thinking in battle, but it apparently doesn't apply outside of it, which is a problem because he's reeling. But then again, these types of cannonballs aren't shot into his face every day.
Jozu isn't given time, because Rakuyo's hooting like a madman, flailing arms smacking Vista, who has also gone frozen and wide-eyed, and Jozu's glad that at least he's not the only brother who feels lost.
"Alright, let's hear it! Who's the lucky boy?" Rakuyo leans as far forward towards Izo and Namur as he can without his ass leaving the bed.
"Get this," Izo leans in too, just as eager. "Marco's fiancee is a girl."
Jozu chokes, but it goes completely ignored, as does Vista's gasp and dainty hand to his heart, and Rakuyo expelling what seems to be all of the spit in his mouth, all in the face of Haruta bolting to his feet and shrieking "WHAT?!" loud enough to probably be heard on the other side of the Moby.
"Izo..." Namur cringes, and looks distinctively miserable, an expression all the more exaggerated by the dramatic winged liner Izo's put around his eyes.
"It's too late, we're all here, might as well share with just our fellow Commanders no? It's a big occasion for our dearest first mate," Izo says, well over the initial guilt he felt. After all, such a big occasion for their brother is most certainly relevant to their fellow Commanders!
Everyone else in the room makes silent eye contact at Izo and Namur's exchange, immediately understanding what had occurred: Izo had been sworn to secrecy, but had slipped.
Well, they all sympathize. They feel for their poor fishman brother, they've all been in his shoes before.
But they're also all currently in this room, and the secret's been spilled, so at this point...well, what happens in Jozu's room, stays in Jozu's room, no?
And so the story comes out, and multiple other bombs are dropped: that the girl's a mermaid, Marco's never even met her, and she's also Ace's little brother.
"Wow, didn't know he liked them that young, Ace's practically a baby himself," Rakuyo mutters, and gets a sharp jab in the elbows from Vista.
“A mermaid,” Vista breathes, stars in his eyes. “A phoenix with a mermaid, that’s so romantic!”
“Isn’t it?” Namur looks eager for the first time since the meeting started, glad he’s found a kindred soul. “They’ll look so good together…”
Jozu's brain has finally caught up to the situation, but something's not adding up. He makes to raise his hand, but ends up loudly cracking his shoulder against the wall instead, which still does the job of catching his brothers' attentions.
"Wait, but I thought Ace said he couldn't join our crew because he promised to be pirates with his little brother...but if she gets married to Marco and she joins our crew, then...?"
There's a moment of deep contemplative silence.
"Well, there's the chance that Ace doesn't know about his little brother's relationship with Marco," Izo says slowly. "He might not even know that they've been corresponding."
There's a collective wince as they imagine how Ace's reaction to that being revealed might go, if it indeed is a secret. The one thing they know about Ace's little brother is that Ace has a MASSIVE brother complex, and is very, Very protective. They suddenly don’t envy Thatch.
"Do you think Thatch knows?" Vista speaks up. "Is this why he went with Ace?"
"If he didn't know, he knows now, Marco sent the letter and engagement gem to him to deliver," Namur says hesitantly, finally willing to contribute information.
"So let's get this straight, Ace thought he was just going back to East Blue to start a new pirate crew, and Thatch was just tagging along to help, but Thatch was actually sent by Marco to escort his bride back to us? Without Ace knowing? Is that right?" Haruta's eyes are wide and he sounds extremely impressed. "That's so evil of him, I didn't know he had it in him, holy shit!"
"We don't know that," Namur mumbles, but is ignored.
“Do you think Thatch’ll be best man at the wedding?” Vista wonders.
“That’s not fair!” Haruta hisses at the same time Izo shouts, “Favoritism!”
"Okay, okay, wait. So in that case, assuming Ace eventually calms down and supports the union, that means his little brother joins us, right? And if she joins, doesn't that mean Ace would join too? Since she was the only reason why he didn't join us, and he wants to be on the same crew as his brother..." Jozu can't let go of the possibility, now that it's there.
They'd all been terribly sad when Ace announced he was leaving. Their crew all understood why he had to go, a promise is a promise, and they'd still always be brothers but...the 2nd Division Commander seat had practically been waiting for him.
"There's always the chance that they mean to do long distance," Namur says then, glumly.
"That's so boring!" Izo says dismissively. "Marco should take what's his, we're pirates!"
Rakuyo cheers while Namur gasps in indignation, and everyone else sighs, except Vista who suddenly freezes.
"Marco wouldn't...leave us to join them, would he...?"
Well there's a thought.
"...We can't know what the bride thinks, but that we can ask Marco, probably," Jozu says uncertainly. Suddenly this whole "marriage" business is a lot more stressful than expected, because Jozu's not sure he likes the idea of suddenly losing their first mate, no matter how nice his future company is.
"It's not likely, probably, because they're just a baby crew, who already have our brothers as senior members," Haruta reasons. "Far more likely that they'll join us!"
"The 2nd'll be happy to have Ace and Deuce back," Vista nods, focusing on the positives, and the mood lightens considerably. "And we'll be able to have a wedding!"
“A wedding! I love weddings!” Rakuyo cheers. “Drinks all around!”
"Ace'll become our 2nd Division Commander after all," Namur says, and he looks so happy that Izo croons and pokes his cheek.
"Wait," Jozu says, and Izo groans not again. "This may be getting ahead of ourselves but...if Ace is 2nd Division Commander, that puts his room right next to Marco's...isn't that sorta awkward for the newlyweds?"
"Jozu!" Namur looks very scandalized, while Rakuyo and Haruta cackle.
"Maybe Ace'll burn a hole through the wall so they can't have any privacy," Haruta grins.
"That's terrible," Vista says, despite also beginning to smile.
This is nice, imagining what their family's future might be like. It'll no doubt be wild, but a positive change.
"But maybe being close to his brother would make Ace happier too, so maybe the 2nd Division would really be perfect," Izo says contemplatively.
"Question, would Ace's little brother be in the 1st or 2nd Division?" Namur wonders.
Bickering breaks out, but Rakuyo cuts through it. "She's Ace's brother, she might be Commander material herself, who says she'll be in one of their divisions?"
"Commander of Division 1.5," Namur says dreamily.
And oh, well, that wasn't what anyone else had in mind, but the more they think about it, the more it appeals.
"Perfectly in between her husband and brother, our future Commander of Division 1.5," Izo says it out loud, testing how it feels.
"I like it," Haruta shouts, and is echoed by his brothers.

WHELP that took forever to write, but I hope you enjoyed! The next part has Marco :P
The number of Whitebeards keeps increasing! We now have all the main Whitebeards that are usually given attention (Marco, Thatch, Jozu, Vista, Izo, Haruta), and in addition to Namur, I decided I wanted to give Rakuyo some love! I think he looks like a Jack Sparrow rip off so I like him haha. Did anyone catch the reference?
Anyway, still very much figuring out how I want to portray them, but I'm enjoying exploring them in writing, so I'll know how to better depict them in any future art ^ ^;

Puffs of dirt billowed out from scuffling boots and Jaster tried not to wince under his helmet. Jango was trying to be a good teacher, but he knew every single hit the boy landed had to hurt. Karr wasn't complaining, which was something. The lack of training was clear. Though, he had to admit, the boy they found in the ruins wasn't tripping as much.
"Jan'ika," he called out. "I said no fancy moves yet!"
"Wasn't fancy," came the retort. "Ori'vod is just that bad." Karr made a face before turning to spit blood out of his mouth. The kid had spunk and fire. Jango didn't wait for his older brother to collect himself and slid right into quite a few vicious hits. Karr only managed to block a quarter of them. Well, that was some improvement. Jaster wasn't that surprised when Karr seemed to get tangled up on nothing. Yeah, it was about that time in the sparring session. Arms went wind milling and a swear left both boys.
"Try to-" Any advice on twisting to distribute the impact across his body didn't come in time. Karr went down hard. It was the cracking sound that filled the clearing that had his heart leaping into his chest. Jaster rushed forward and yanked Jango back. He reached towards his oldest son, but fingers closed over air.
Kark.
"It wasn't my fault," Jango blurted out. Panic, his youngest was panicking because the kriffing ground had just swallowed Karr. Jaster felt like the galaxy's worst father in that moment.
"Shh, I know. He's fine." He had to be fine. "Go put on your gear. We have to go rescue your ori'vod again."
"Lek!" Jango was already rushing off to do as ordered. Good. Jaster crouched down next to the gaping hole. Sinkhole. Nasty thing. A faint groan of pain drifted upward and he felt the tightness in his chest ease. Karr was alive.
"Karr," he called down while pressing a hand to the jagged edge of the hole. Dirt and stone broke free, raining down into the cavern below, and Karr let out a string of swear words. Thank goodness Jango wasn't back yet to witness that questionable language! "Report."
"I'm fine, I think. I landed on something-" A strange silence followed and then he heard movement. "Oh, oh no. How do I get out-" The rising tones meant fear. Karr didn't scare easily and now Jaster was actually worried. What was down there? Jango knelt next to him and peered into the hole.
"...I think Karr is gonna get eaten-"
"Jango!"
"What? Don't you see the webbing there," Jango asked while pointing to a large sheet of glistening cobwebs hanging down from the other side of the hole. Well, kark. Jaster stood up, ready to jump down, when someone bolted past them. He tensed instantly, hand going to his blaster, but the crazy di'kut was hurling himself into the hole. Brown cloak flapping dramatically behind him.
"Was that," Jango began to ask with a faint sound of awe in his voice.
"Yeah, a jetii. Come on. Let's go grab Karr while the jetii is distracting whatever is down there." Jaster jumped blindly, using his jetpack to control his descent. Jango was a mere moment behind him. The cavern, a nest he realized, was tinted in a purple hue now. The lightsaber sliced through the grotesquely large arachnids like they were made of soft cheese. Jaster didn't care about that, he cared about Karr. He cast a look around and found the boy doing something reckless. The fool was sawing at a webbed sack with a boot knife. He was going to have to get him a new one, one that wasn't dull.
"Karr," he snapped. Jango ran past him to help rip the sack open. He swore and spun to cover their backs. Well, it looked like he was working with a jetii today. He pulled his blaster free and began shooting. Even with his blaster fire and that purple blade, the spiders kept coming.
"Just a little more, buir," Jango called. He wasn't going to ask.
"Careful-" He shot a spider down before it could jump on the jetii's back. The man barely glanced at him before spinning to hack at another one. "Why are you even here?"
"The nearby village has had children vanish, I was sent to investigate. You stumbled into my mission." Jaster's brows knit together at that response. The timing was a little too perfect.
They fought close to each other, dodging each other with the ease of warrior partners. They could have fought together for years with the way they seemed to anticipate the other's movements. He didn't dwell on that as he fired over and over into the writhing masses of beady eyed bastards.
"You done yet," he called back to his boys.
"One more, oh shit-"
"Language, Karr!"
"Yeah, language, ori'vod! I might pick up bad habits!" Jango could be such a handful, but it didn't ever seem to phase Karr.
"Sorry, buir! My knife broke. What is this webbing made of? Kriffing beskar? Also, shut it, Jango."
Right. This was taking way too long. Jaster grabbed a fistful of the jetii's robe and yanked him backward while holstering his gun. Once his hand was free he raised his arm, jerking his fist down, and fire erupted from the gauntlet. He took a step forward as he methodically dosed the space in front of them with the fire. It crackled, it raged, it ate at webbing and spider alike. Globs of melting sickly white fell around him while the spiders died in a near ear splitting shrieks.
Macabre, the scene was macabre.
Beside him the sound of a weapon powering down caught his attention. He inclined his head slightly, studying the bald jetii that had leaped into danger.
“….Well I suppose that’s one way of doing things. Wouldn’t have ever thought to use a flamethrower, myself.” The words were delivered in some of the driest humor he had ever heard and he found himself inappropriately wondering if the man even knew how to laugh. What did that laugh sound like?
"Buir! We are going to need assistance getting all these kids out of here!" Jaster turned from the jetii and went to assess the situation fully. In the end they had saved six children, most of which clung to Karr. His boy looked uncomfortable, as if he was afraid he'd break the children somehow, but it warmed his heart anyway. Karr would get used to little ones with time.
The jetii helped them lift the kids out and even escorted them back to the village. Jaster hadn't set out to be a hero, nor had his boys, but now they all sat around a large bonfire while the village celebrated. He was sitting next to the jetii, smirking down at his wooden cup of harsh liquor.
"I never got your name," the strange jetii said in a slightly more friendly tone.
"I never gave it."
A snort of laughter and then the other was downing their drink. "You can call me Mace."
Mace. Not a bad name.
"Jaster."
He glanced out of the corner of his eyes at Mace and paused. That man was glancing at Karr and Jango with a contemplative look on his face. It didn't set off any alarms, but it did make him wonder at the intensity.
What secrets did Mace carry and why did he want to find out?

There are lots of websites out there with sketchy copies of the lyrics for Fetch The Bolt Cutters - they all have quite a few errors.
Below the cut, I have all the lyrics to Fetch The Bolt Cutters, based on the published liner notes [x1] [x2], I know you guys want EVERYTHING so I copied out the repeating choruses and tried to add in most of the background vocal lyrics too. There are probably still one or two mistakes here but it should be a lot better than those random lyric websites you will find on Google.

Due to equipment management problems, the fastening bolts are not effectively and timely tightened, the liner plate and the mill plaque will produce a certain gap between them, so that during operation, the liner plate produces a certain pat on the plaque itself, leading to metal fatigue on the surface of the plaque in a short time, which in turn causes wear and tear of the plaque. (6) Vicious circle. The permanent deformation of the mill stand surface brought about by the continuous impact load will be further worsened by the corrosive deterioration of the material. When the liner starts to move, the fixing bolts will loosen and fail to hold the liner firmly in the frame.
