Sing Sing (dir. Greg Kwedar)

Colman Domingo should be the clear front runner for Best Actor, and I am appalled that he is not. It is heartrending to see the number of former Sing Sing inmates who play themselves. The narrative structure is nothing new, but here the message is the most important thing. Also, I attended an advance screening of the film that was followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew, and one of the cast members spoke about the stigma that current and former prisoners face and how dehumanizing it is. The movie puts a big ugly spotlight on the cruelty of the prison systems in the United States, and if it doesn’t radicalize you I’m not sure what will.

What is the ankle touch from I’m uneducated in the ways of waking up in sobs 😔

it’s a line from one of the most incredible scenes of all-time -- the backseat soul baring that jesse and celine have in before sunset (2004), nine years after they met and fell in love in before sunrise (1995), where jesse confesses that he used to dream about touching her ankle and waking up next to his wife in sobs. one of the most terribly romantic things i’ve ever heard. 

my girlfriend and i have an inside thing related to that scene that i don’t want to get into, for obvious reasons, and that’s what the majority of the ankle posts are about.

I read Milk and Honey cause I found a copy for free and I think the thing that made me the most mad was the POTENTIAL. Like it COULD have actually been good poetry but it was not.

I don’t mind her enjambment thing, and I use it in a lot of poems I write, but Kaur’s reliance on it makes it incredibly obvious that her poems are literally inspirational Pinterest quotes broken up into lines. Watch this, I’ll make up a terrible Rupi Kaur poem right now:

don’t waste your energy

tending other people’s gardens

water your soul with love

and watch your flowers bloom

It’s literally just a practice of making up a smarmy, cutesy Pinterest quote with Baby’s First Metaphor as a conceit. 

If you want an example of a good poet who frequently uses enjambment and highly specific central metaphors and conceits, take a look at John Donne’s poetry.

This was a hashtag started by SPN fans on twitter who were rightfully livid that they buried cas (yes he was technically alive but literally where was he after despair) because he was gay and they killed Dean because they basically set him up as bi and then realized they could either follow through with it or kill dean too, which they did :^)

Instead, Misha posted a video saying that he thought it was a beautiful ending to Cas’ character despite LITERALLY HAVING CALLED IT A BURY YOUR GAYS LIKE. A WEEK BEFORE. and us fans were like misha sweetie we love you but you know it was bury your gays stop covering for the CW which he immediatley apologized for and had a sincere twitter thread with angry fans. Basically, CW was using him to cover and they had a sniper trained on him ALA Disney w/ Oscar Issac.
