hey do you have any book recs about hiroshima and nagasaki?

the one I'm reading right now, Hiroshima Nagasaki by Paul Ham, is really fucking good. it covers the entire story from beginning to end, the circumstances and context, the creation of the atom bombs, the science behind it, and then detailed accounts of the bombings themselves as well as the aftermath. it's also written in a really clear and engaging way, and considering all the technical details re: the science behind it and the historical context, it's so easy to follow.

I would also absolutely recommend Nagasaki: LIfe After Nuclear War by Susan Southard. this is a much closer examination of the attack on Nagasaki specifically, and follows the story of the city very closely in the lead-up, during the bombing, and in the aftermath. it illustrates in detail the impact of the bombing on people's lives for generations afterwards, and explores how people tried to survive in the aftermath of such catastrophe. it also has a lot of background context and debunks a lot of the common myths about the bombings, as well as illustrating just how reckless these attacks were in terms of the lack of knowledge regarding the long-term effects of weapons like these.
