Can I talk about my own story? I think I can :D Spoilers ofc

The Heart of New York has this idea layered in deep - this yearning to have the mentor he was promised but never got and their approval. Smiles and HofNY!Miles both have this yearning.

HofNY!Miles gets RIPeter back and finds that he doesn't match who he had expected from their short interaction. RIPeter is standoffish, passive-aggressive, and nitpicks everything about how Miles has been Spider-Man. It hurts! Miles gives him every excuse under the sun, hoping that that approval will come someday... and eventually gets thoroughly rejected. He has to decide whether to still fly under the Spider-Man banner or not, and even though he decides he will, he still wishes things were different

For Smiles... he has to watch all of this unfold. This is his Peter Parker Spider-Man in everything but that he belongs to a slightly different universe. The fate of his Peter is unknown, though he is presumed dead. Therefore, if HofNY!Miles's Peter approves of Miles, then they'll approve of him, too... And then they're rejected. They're disapproved of. And it makes him glad that his Peter is (hopefully) long dead.

In the next chapter, Chapter 17, there's a conversation between Smiles and RIPeter after the events of Chp 10/11, and it is one of my favourite scenes

i was making myself sad by watching a clip of peter parker dying when the implications of insomniac peter parker being in atsv hit me. insomniac's Spiderman is one of the few times Peter actually lives to see Miles becomes Spiderman, so you can imagine how seeing a version of himself actually get a chance to know the peter parker of his world might shake up some Feelings™ (read: guilt, jealousy, awe)

don't get me wrong, Miles has clearly stepped into his role as Spiderman fantastically and loves having Peter B Parker as a mentor, but i wouldn't be surprised if he was a little jealous of insomniac miles getting peter's constant presence and support instead of just a week's worth
