Alfa Romeo Alfetta SW, 1983, by Zagato. Designed by Giuseppe Mittino at the Milanese atelier, Zagato Milano. The proposal came too late in the model life of the Alfetta to be seriously considered for series production. Furthermore this was at the time when Alfa Romeo was a heavily loss-making state-owned enterprise whose future was being fought over by Ford and Fiat so new model plans were under intense scrutiny (spoiler alert, Fiat won and took over in 1986). In an unconscious prediction of what would happen to Alfa, the SW used the tail lights from a Fiat Uno. Had it entered production it would have been one of the only station wagons to employ a transaxle gearbox, the other being the first generation Pontiac Tempest Safari
