LMFAO the stranger things crew are so funny 😭 they’ve been filming for months with fans and paparazzi taking pics and videos, but of course right after we get pics of byler; now everyone on set wants to be proactive about leaks,, like if byler is not endgame then why are they always so afraid of us knowing anything about them 😂

#byler #mike subtly trying to one up will over his gf being better #bc that's what guy friends do #like him and dustin #but he has to do it subtly bc he's too much of a scaredy cat to ask will about this girl he 'likes' (according to el)#and so when mike makes a subtextual joke about his milkshake being better (his girlfriend being better)#and angela rolls up at that exact moment #comedic timing that 99.99% of the audience missed #also interesting that mike seems sort of dejected after this conversation...#i think mike thought he won in his little gf competition with dustin in the episode previous #he kind of just laughed off dustins remark but it does look like he felt sure of himself #the problem was that his arguments for why his gf is better cannot compete with will's gf in his eyes #bc what mike sees is will being practically entranced by angela #us the audience knows that's not what's happening #but based on everything leading up to this point #mike gets the impression upon meeting angela and watching will 'pine' after her longingly #that this is THE girl will made the painting for...#and will's visible attraction to angela (again from mike's unreliable pov) outweighs mike's attraction to el #which is why he gives his milkshake another sip #only to look dissapointed #he didn't win this round #will is in love with a girl and mike cannot compete because he is not in love with *gunshots*

the climax of his sentence in the heat of the moment isn't about him loving her like it should be if he actually did. imagine how much harder it would've hit with a "and i LOVE HER!!!!!!!" but they didn't. it obviously shows the thing he cares about the most is not losing her, not how much love he has for her.

and that’s exactly what we see all throughout s4, him being scared of losing el and that she doesn't need him, not that she doesn't love him. he's literally never been worried about her not loving him. hope this helps <3

#my art #three body problem #3 body problem #zhang beihai #三体 #章北海 #i've been meaning to draw three body problem characters and actually post them on my blog for quite some time!#so if anybody wants me to draw any specific character from the series feel free to reply here or send an ask as a request!#beihai is my top favorite and he resonated with me more than i expected! i rather liked bits of consequentialist philosophical ideas in him #anyways incoming ramble/infodump in the tags about various subjects pertaining to him #all you need to know about me is that i often lurk in chinese language fandom spaces and you might see commonalities in designs #if you see fanartists draw him with the broken eyebrow and mole then that's due to the 我的三体 (my three-body) donghua adaptation!#admittedly i was introduced to the series through that adaptation years ago because it seemed rather absurd (minecraft haha) but oddly good #at least check out the third season (haven't seen the fourth one yet but that's ongoing actually) or listen to 夜航星 (night voyager)#i'm rather curious how fanartists on tumblr might tackle character designs since i mostly see the two live action adaptations here #i want to diverge my designs from any particular adaptation but my beihai design takes a lot from 我的三体!#now about beihai- i really enjoyed his characterization and i'd like to bring up a maybe unintentional parallel and foil with the eto #hopefully that's something new to add to the discussion about zhang beihai and here's what adaptations don't get about mike evans #in the book he's a character you mostly only hear about from others and he's known to be a private person #he conceals a lot of his thoughts from even people like ye wenjie + he taught the trisolarans about deceit #then his strategy to kill luo ji was to keep it low and make it seem like an accident which those obfuscations of thought parallels beihai #then evans says: “but… it's obvious now that everywhere is the same” which is similar to beihai's “it doesn't matter. it's all the same”#the contexts differ but i think they're good foils about human nature “being the same” with evans's quote being about futility #then beihai's was about how regardless of if he survived or not- someone else would be able to carry on with his work #i have many other thoughts about beihai like how chu yan's (captain of blue space) group approach with the voting contrasts beihai #while beihai tried to bear the weight of attacking the other ships in solitude- chu yan made vengeance against trisolaris a group effort #(which that action goes against how the swordholder was a solitary role instead of a group one which is neat to me!)#i'd discuss more but i think that's enough to show that i really love zhang beihai (feel free to discuss the books with me though)

kind of crazy how mike said in a moment of vulnerability and weakness that he wants to be needed and to be of use and good at something, and then a large chunk of the fandom just decided to validate all of his worst thoughts & fears and suddenly reduce him to a weak, incapable, mindless, unloved wastoid wimp that's everything his low self-esteem tells him he is and nothing like how the people in his life see him (or what the narrative itself has shown us since the very first episode). even crazier when the people that do that call themselves mike fans lol but i'm 😴😴😴

kinda interesting how Mike has two big speeches throughout the show, both when a character he cares for is close to death and needs help but only one strictly calls for him reminding them of a cherished past moment yet he chooses to use the same formula for both, telling them about how they met and how it made him feel, almost as if he was struggling the second time and relied on what he knew worked the first time to try and help..

#cause i think its actually so random that he chose to confess his 'love' to her and tell her about how they met in this moment #because why would that help??#they actually had no idea what was happening whilst El was piggybacking except that she seemed to be choking so #what part of that called for a love confession and a trip down memory lane?#compared to with Will where reminding him of important or happy memories was the actual key to helping him...#cant blame Mike though really the poor boy was panicking at least he tried #i will continue to push the parallels between these speeches / monologues im not crazy #stranger things #byler #will byers #mike wheeler #el hopper #platonic elmike
