I think one of of the fundamental differences between Levi and Kenny can be summed up and demonstrated like this:
Levi will risk his life to save someone else's, even and especially when that person's own actions or lack of ability placed them in danger to begin with.
We see him do this throughout the story. We see him risk his life to save Mikasa's during their fight with the Female Titan, spraining his ankle even due to her reckless behavior and pushing through that to intervene just before the Female Titan can grab her. We see him do it during the final battle, saving Jean from his own unawareness before he's eaten by one of Eren's spawned Titans, even taking the impact for him after, which probably did all kinds of damage to his back and spine, and then he again saves Connie, who's been knocked unconscious and is about to be eaten by yet another Titan, and he nearly gets his leg taken off in the process.
Levi saves people, regardless of whether they "deserve" to be saved or not, regardless of whether or not they put themselves in a position of danger and can't get out of it on their own. We see him do this with that one soldier in "No Regrets" on the training course, too. We see him do that with Ramzi. We see him do it with the merchants in Trost.
I think it's safe to say that not only would Kenny not have saved either Mikasa, Jean, Connie, or any of those other people if he'd been in Levi's same position, but just like he did to Levi during the Uprising arc, he would have actively attempted to kill them if he thought they were inconvenient to his selfish goals.
I think another fundamental difference between Levi and Kenny is demonstrated in how, despite all of his many connections to the royal family and the nobility, and how easily he could have taken Levi out of the Underground and given him a good life on the surface, Kenny chose to leave Levi in the Underground and let him ultimately fend for himself down there, saying if he wanted to make it up to the surface, he was going to have to do that on his own. In sharp contrast, as soon as Levi had a connection to the royal family through Historia, he did literally the opposite, helping and encouraging Historia to get all of the orphans of the Underground to the surface and give them better lives.
Both examples demonstrate that fundamental difference, how Kenny is someone who believes that a person's life and the worth of their life needs to be proven and earned specifically through strength, whereas Levi is someone who regards all life as equally precious and worth saving, regardless of the person's personal strength or ability to save themselves.
Levi is, in all the ways that count, the exact opposite of Kenny. And he turned out that way despite Kenny, not because of him.
I'll never understand how people can be so blind as to claim they're the same due to what amounts to nothing but surface-level similarities in their mannerisms.
I'll always fight against this frankly insulting idea that some people try to posit that Kenny taught Levi to value life, or that he instilled in Levi his great appreciation for life. It's the opposite. Levi appreciates life in a way Kenny couldn't ever understand.

My take on the mischaracterisation of Jean Kirstein
The mischaracterisation of Jean Kirstein at the end of the Attack on Titan manga and the series as a whole has spread a wide discourse and controversy around this minor character. As he is not apart of the 3 main characters being Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, Kirsteins upbringing and development has been severely left in the dark. Hajime Isayama’s widespread audience between both Asian and Western societies fail to take note of Kirstein’s character as he is not under the spotlight as much as other characters. This consists of the common belief that he should not be deemed to be a character that has had any development and continues to carry out the same ideals and linear thoughts and mindset; Kirstein’s relationship with Mikasa Ackerman and the sudden pairing of him and Pieck Finger.
Common misconceptions with Jean Kirstein are that fans are quick to assume how he has no type of character development all the way through from when he was first introduced at the first meeting with Keith Shadis as cadets to when he was last seen Post-Rumbling. What is made out to be fan’s perception in Jean’s character is the mess hall scene where a rivalry is introduced between Jaeger and Kirstein. Of course, the audience will side with Jaeger because he is the main character and has witnessed his ideals and trauma from the past few episodes. Kirstein, a mere outsider has not. Isayama intends to give a realistic view on Jaeger's goal of slaying every titan because the idea in itself sounds insane. The same idea would have been felt within other civilians of the past especially within the military, but it has never been done before; The people who have the same mindset as Kirstein have lost faith due to the everlasting duration of this massacre and deemed it not to be possible. This isn’t intended to be an attack against Jaeger, only because Kirstein does not wish to see him give his hopes up. That’s not saying Jean does not want the titans to be gone, in fact he wishes to live comfortably in the interior as a Military Police. For some reason this wish is seen as ‘selfish’ on Kirstein’s part by fans. Is it so bad that someone living amongst human eating monster's desires to live comfortably? Isayama erases the stereotype of Shonen characters desiring to be the saviour in Kirstein and even Annie Leonhart. It is not out of laziness; it is out of loss of faith and thinking rationally. This ideal does change after witnessing the mass casualties in Trost and loss of his implied to be ‘close friend’, Marco Bodt. From this, he creates a new belief for himself but still based off his old one. Kirstein believes every human deserves a chance at life whether they are an enemy or friend. This is why during the fight against Kenny’s squad, he hesitates to kill one of the members. This hesitation almost results in his and Arlert’s deaths. This should not be deemed to be an act of weakness, sentiment and empathy are the right terms to describe this. During Levi Squad’s evaluation of the battle fought, Kirstein speaks up about the idea of humans fighting humans and how it isn’t isn’t morally correct as he became a soldier to kill titans, to reduce the number of lost lives in the scarce number of humans left within the walls. Kirstein is written to be a symbol of realism which is not typically portrayed in Shonen characters as most tend to appear more driven by their environment (whilst in the moment) rather than logic, and instantly getting beaten by the antagonist or dilemma occuring. Kirstein is also shown to be showing this type of empathy during the Marley arc after witnessing Sasha Braus’ death. He ignored Floch Forester’s suggestion of throwing the culprits out of the airship as he still considered them to be children over the fact that they are enemies first. Evidence that confirms that Kirstein has changed as a person is during a conversation him and Forester hold together. “Go back to being the old Jean; Reckless, annoying and cheeky” In which Kirstein finds rude of him to say, showing that he has changed from his old self. Kirstein has drastically changed as a person from when he was a cadet to an ambassador from participating. in the “Battle of Heaven and Earth”; Fans must learn to understand this and to not only pay attention to the main character as minor characters like Kirstein also serve a purpose.
Kirstein’s relationship with Mikasa Ackerman has been a wide controversy for a while as it is hinted that Kirstein takes a small interest in Ackerman; however, this was when he was still young. The only circumstance where he serves a somewhat interest for Ackerman is during the scene in the mess hall where Ackerman walks past him. He is seen to be blushing and compliments her hair. However, this is purely just admiration, not romance. Romance requires two parties that have synchronised feelings about one another. This interaction does not mirror Kirstein’s current self as he barely even hit puberty during this period when this scene occurred. It’s inaccurate to think that someone who is 12 years old thinks and acts the same as they do when they are 19 years old. A counterargument to this is how the woman in Jean’s dream resembles Ackerman. That is correct, the woman did resemble Ackerman, however it was never confirmed that Kirstein’s spouse in said dream was Ackerman herself. If it was, isayama would have made it clear. Even so, that wasn’t the purpose behind the showing of this dream. This dream depicts how much Kirstein desires to live in a state of comfort whilst disaster is striking. Isayama was smart to display this as it shows a personal depiction of what one of the characters experiencing this war would be thinking. Kirstein’s relationship with Ackerman solely as her comrade who values her existence deeply. This is where audience’s perceptions of Kirstein start to turn to the wrong direction. Kirstein values all his comrades as well as Ackerman. Kirstein manages to keep his distance and is respectful about Ackerman’s relationship with Jaeger. Yes, it is hinted that he especially loves when a woman has long black hair from when he compliments Ackerman’s locks, a portrait he completed of a woman with black hair, and the fact that Jaeger made a comment mentioning Jean about when it was mentioned that people overseas would have dark hair. “Jean would like that.” The misconception of Ackerman marrying Kirstein at the end of the manga is the most widespread misinterpretation currently. It is not like Isayama to pair two characters all of a sudden without a longing build-up to where they admit their feelings for one another. Kirstein has always been respectful of Jaeger’s relationship with Ackerman and ensures to keep his distance; It is not like him to barge into Ackerman mourning her lost lover and sweeping her up on her feet again and taking the opportunity because “Jaeger is dead now”. The scene where he suggests to Ackerman that they must kill Jaeger is not for his own personal gain so his “competition” is gone, it was a genuine suggestion that would benefit all of humanity; This would make sense considering his nature. Isayama does not desire for us to wonder if Ackerman ended up with someone else or not because that completely misses the point of what he is trying to conclude. Even if Ackerman did supposedly move on, it was unlikely to be Kirstein as they already know each other too well and their goals and ambitions would clash constantly; it would not be a healthy relationship as Kirstein would be well aware that she still loves Jaeger. The fact that Ackerman kept the scarf till she was buried may sign that she did not move on at all because nothing can make her move on from the emotional strain Jaeger’s death had on her. Inevitably, Kirstein would not desire to be a burden to her, same as anyone else.
The fanon pairing of Kirstein and Pieck Finger is sudden and way out of character. Ever since Pieck has been introduced, there was a wide discussion of who she should be shipped with as what anime fans always do because a character not just live in peace without any love interest. Initially, a popular pairing was of her with Porco Galliard, but now that he is out of the picture; Pieck is singled-out again. Attention is brought upon Kirstein, and something drives them into shipping them together. This was not out of pure connection; PikuJean is merely based off the fact that they both meet each other standards. A Reddit user states: “Jean likes women with long black hair and Pieck likes men with beards”. Quite frankly, this sentence alone depicts how ignorant anime fans are to how relationships work because this is the only argument they have. Is that saying that you can instantly fall head over heels for someone only because they have a characteristic that you find attractive? there is a difference between being attracted to someone and loving someone. Grisha Jaeger has a beard too, why not pair him with Pieck? Kiyomi has long black hair, hey, she must be perfect for Kirstein! See how ridiculous it sounds? Another argument that PikuJean shippers have is the fact that they have each other to fill the void for their “lost lovers” since Kirstein is unable to be with Ackerman and Pieck experiencing the same with Galliard who is deceased. Does that not sound downright disrespectful on Kirstein’s part? It’s the same as with Ackerman, swooping Pieck off her feet now that her “love interest” is deceased? Kirstein is always seen as the “Plan B” in these types of situations. The only thing that is driven by the pairing of Pieck and Kirstein is convenience. There is no real connection. One of the pieces of “evidence” to this pairing is the fact that Kirstein and Pieck were working alongside each other during the Rumbling and the fact that Kirstein saved her at one point. Is that not what he is supposed to do? To make sure no one else dies. This counters with Kirstein’s objective and ideals to ensure no one else losses their life because of someone he’s known for 7 years. Isayama’s audience is extremely brainwashed from other types of media that display these romantic tropes which do not apply in such a complex story as this. Attack on Titans complexity is the reason why people are quick to misinform each other.
To conclude this, the mischaracterisation of Jean Kirstein from the Attack on Titan manga and the series as a whole has spread a wide discourse and controversy around him. This is because Hajime Isayama ensures to write his characters to be complex and not 1 dimensional which is common in minor characters of a Shonen setting. This consists of the common belief that he should not be deemed to be a character that has had any development and growth, his relationship with Mikasa Ackerman and the sudden pairing of him and Pieck Finger.

Levi and female!reader developing a relationship (Canon Universe)
Tumblr media
Part 1/2
How your foolish idealism land you into the Survey Corp
You were born in a rich merchants family of Stohess. The only girl out of four children, with three protective older brothers and a younger one whom you adored. With all of your cousins being male too, you were spoiled rotten by both your parents and various uncles and aunts.
Your life was carefree, uneventful. You were well loved by your friends, you had various interests.
You loved parties, flirting and going out with boys. Your first boyfriend broke up with you when he started the cadet training, eventually becoming an assigned MP in Stohess. You both left in friendly terms and still meeting each other to chat.
Thanks to him you came to know all the events following the Trost battle. Your interest started to stir.
Then the Female Titan appeared in Stohess.
You lived in an area unffected by the distruction, but the idea of Titans so close to your loved ones disturbed you. And instigated your curiousity even more.
That tiny germ planted in your head by the tales of outsiders, people who can turn into Titans and secrets surrounding the Walls, blossomed after the retaking of Shiganshina and the truth of the world finally unveiled.
While you were reading the newspaper you felt a mixture of rage, exaltation, hope... your lifestyle, all of the sudden, appeared dull and meaningless. You wanted to see these things yourself, wanted to help and free Eldia from the hated Marley.
Whitout telling anyone you fleed one night to enroll in the Cadets Corp, whishing to join the Scouts.
After being shouted in the face by Shadis during the presentation of the recruits...
"Y/S, uh? If I had a penny for all the time I have heard idealistic bullshit like yours, I would be richer than your daddy. What fucking happened?? He didn't buy you the pony you wanted??"
You were summoned in his office the day after just to find Shadis together with your parents, your eldest brother and your former MP's boyfriend. Apparently he snitched on you.
Your parents and brother tried to reason with you, saying it was dangerous, that you were following a blind idealism without caring the consequences.
In the long run they were right on a lot of things. You'll end up thinking about their warnings and concernes often in the years following the Rumbling.
Your ex was equally adamant trying to get you kicked out of the corp.
He said he was worried for you and told Shadis that considering your upbringing you'll have problems recognizing authority and discipline.
You didn't miss the glare Shadis gave him: "I have teached you and countless cadets before you, kid. Are you implying that I can't do my job?"
Your ex boyfriend winced at Shadis threatening tone. In the end you were allowed to stay. They thought you wouldn't last long in this setting and you would come back home soon.
You swore to yourself not to give up.
Military life teached you a lot on discipline, surely it wasn't easy for you to get used to this kind of hardship but your strong will allowed you to graduate with good scores, despite not being in the top 10.
You stood at attention with your fellow recruits, listening to Commander Hanji speech and you were pleased to notice that the majority of your comrades decided to join the Survey Corps.
With other three friends from the cadet's years you were assigned to Varis and it wasn't rare that in some training sessions with the ODM gear Jean Kirschstein, one of the hero of Shiganshina, would tutor you to perfect the movements.
Despite being younger than you of two years you came to deeply respect Jean. Through him you created a friendly bonds with both Connie and Sasha.
Sasha trained you with the rifles and you share with her the things your parents sent you like you did with your bunkmates back in trainings: goods, soaps and other things. There were too much of these, anyways.
She invited you to spend the evenings in her's and Mikasa's room.
Mikasa wasn't as talkative, but she was polite with you and,slowly, she started to warm up to you.
In the mess hall it wasn't uncommon for you and your friends to sit at a table with Connie and laughing to tears over a bowl of soup at some of his stories: especially the ones that involved a livid Shadis punishing him and Sasha for some of their antics.
Floch Forster was another commanding officer you get along with, at least for a little while.
When you were assigned guarding the Marleyan's POW, watching them from your post, Floch passed by and you salute him.
"Everyting's in order?"
"Yes, sir" your eyes narrowed when a prisoner glared in your direction and Floch noticed.
"Don't bother, they are exactly where they deserved to be."
You straighted your shoulders "They'd better remember that, after what they put us through."
Floch nodded, regarding you with a renowed interest "Y/N, right? I'm glad that some people still have some common sense, you are absolutely correct."
It was too long that I had to divide this introduction part in two because I reached the world limit. Why can't I be more succint? T-T next part continue from where I stopped.

My (not so long) Appreciation Post for Jean Kirstein!
(Sorry friend, but this definitely includes spoilers so you can’t read it)
When I first started watching AOT I didn’t really thought much of Jean, but once I started reading the latest chapters of the manga at the time (and because of JM pics) he began to grow on me.
He’s started off as an insecure kid who wanted nothing to do with the titans and just live his own life quietly. The Military Police was his only option in his mind and only entered the cadets to become qualified to join (Eren calls him out on this for not wanting to use these skills to fight)
Tumblr media
I’m smug and I know it ;)
All of that changed once his hometown of Trost was invaded. He and the other cadets were forced to jump into battle against the titans and he was scared out of his mind.
He may have led the charge to the Armoury, and aided to take out the titans roaming there, but he still didn’t felt cut out to be a leader type - until a certain someone close to him shares inspiring words of how being weak makes him relatable and easier for others to look up to. Words from a boy who believed in his potential from the start.
Tumblr media
Look at my boys!
This lead to his traumatising reaction when he found Marco’s corpse after the battle. Someone who believed in him is now long dead, and Jean felt horrible to see his body burn away with other poor souls who lost their lives to the titans.
Jean didn’t wanna leave Marco’s memory in vain, so he decided to give up on his selfish goal and do the right thing by joining the Scout Regiment - still scared as hell even during the ceremony.
Tumblr media
The night he watched his soulmate burn.
Throughout the series, we see him grow even more into a admired character by the others, Armin and Eren respect him a lot and even Levi and Hange to a degree. And I will say this: he’s the only character I feel wasn’t completely ruined in S4.
He’s now a lot more confident in his position and is titled commanding officer, with still rough flaws, but at least smart enough to know that Eren was planning something when ‘lying’ to Armin and Mikasa. He keeps everyone on the right track to fight against titans and the yeagerists, as with good leadership qualities should.
Tumblr media
Not just in the looks department.
Surely he was almost tricked by Floch to give everything up once more, but he’s grown pass that with still holding onto the memory of Marco. During the final battle, he was the one who nearly finished off Eren by blowing off his head. As much as I didn’t like Connie this season, he still acknowledged that all of them made it through thanks to Jean.
Now with being an ambassador, he’s still taking lead to change the world alongside Armin and the others. In conclusion, he’s one of the most human characters in this series - I can see why he was Isayama’s favourite for a time.
Happy Birthday again to the majestic stallion.
Tumblr media
Okay, I give in. He’s also handsome as hell.
🐴 ✨✨

I just noticed that in the Attack on Titan Junior High intro, when Armin jumps off the desk…
Tumblr media
(Sweet boy <3)
…Connie is the one who catches him:
Tumblr media
This could be because this happens in the actual show, during the Battle for Trost when they need to get to the supply tower but Armin gave Mikasa his gas tanks.
Tumblr media
Connie does this in every universe

"Well, it's official everyone: the Battle of Trost is an official holiday," Jean sighed in annoyance as he read the paper, "Now it's going to be a pain in the ass to get home to my mom."
Connie chuckled. "Mama's boy."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Jean rolled his eyes.
"I can't believe they actually made that battle a holiday," Mikasa proclaimed, "So many lives were lost. A lot of our cadet friends died that day."
"I think Historia mentioned something about the public wanting it," Armin explained, "They wanted to celebrate the moment the tide turned for us officially, and they also wanted to praise Optimus and Eren for their hard work."
"I remember carrying that boulder like it was yesterday," Eren whined, "It hurt my neck like hell."
"I guess I could ask Arcee or Wheeljack for a ride into Trost," Jean decided, "Optimus no doubt doesn't want the spotlight right now. Everyone in the city would want to hound him like a celebrity."
"That's true," Armin agreed, "He's probably at his library right now."
"Optimus has a library?" Arcee asked in surprise as she walked up to them in bipedal mode.
"Yeah, we got it for him as a gift about two years ago," Sasha explained, "He's opened it up to the public and a lot of people go in to rent it out."
"Oddly fitting," Arcee commented, "Ratchet talked about him being an archivist before the war. Speaking of Optimus, what's this I'm hearing about a celebration in Optimus' honor."
"They just turned the Battle of Trost into an official holiday," Jean explained, "It was the day the Colossal Titan attacked the southern gate to Wall Rose. It was also the day that Eren and Optimus made their first debut and helped seal the gate with a giant boulder."
"The boulder hasn't been removed and replaced with a gate, but I think the people of Trost are fine with it," Armin confessed, "The South of the Walls was usually the most at risk with dealing with a titan attack."
"If you don't mind, can you take me home?" Jean asked Arcee, "I wanted to see my mom, and Trost is probably going to be crowded."
"That's fine." Arcee shrugged, "But it sounds like you guys don't want to celebrate."
"Trost was our first exposure to a real battle," Eren explained, "We're not too keen on being there while everyone else celebrates."
Arcee thought it over. "You lost friends, didn't you?"
The 104th solemnly nodded.
"You were young. Novices," Arcee explained, "I was a novice myself once. It costed me, but take it from me, I don't think your fallen comrades would want you to miss out on a celebration like this."
"Are you sure about that?" Connie asked her.
"Mourn your dead, celebrate the life they lived," Arcee advised, "They would have wanted that."
The 104th stared at each other with contemplation and sorrow. They had lost so much that day, but they had also gained so much too. They found just a sliver of hope, even just for a brief moment. They guessed they could celebrate that moment.
"Can you give some of us rides to Trost?" Sasha asked her.
"I'll call Wheeljack to give you guys a lift," Arcee answered.
========
That evening
Arcee was surprised at the sight of the streets of Trost in full celebration. Lanterns and streamers were lit and hanging along houses. The people were chatting amongst themselves and eating food, and there was live dancing in the town square.
Sasha had gotten off of Arcee alt mode, sitting behind her holoform avatar, while the others hopped out of Wheeljack's alt mode.
"Feels like Maccadam's," Wheeljack remarked, earning a hum in agreement from Arcee, "Times like these makes me wish I did get that holoform installation."
"I can always tell you what's going on," Arcee reasoned as she allowed the holoform to get off her alt mode.
"I'll probably just sit here," Wheeljack decided.
"So what do you guys want to do?" Eren asked the others.
"Well, I'm going to go and see my mom," Jean answered before waving goodbye, "I'll meet up with you guys later."
"Bye Jean Boy!" Connie teased, earning a middle finger from his friend walking away.
"Let's get something to eat," Armin suggested.
"And then we can drink 'til we all pass out!" Connie cheered.
"Guess you should be lucky Wheeljack and I will be willing to drive you home," Arcee said as she walked towards a food stall with the others. She stopped; however, when she noticed Eren staring up at the sky.
"Something wrong?" Arcee asked.
"No...I'm actually glad that I was able to contribute to something good," Eren confessed.
Arcee gave a small pat on Eren's shoulder. "C'mon. I think there are a few Cybertronian games I can translate for humans to enjoy."
"We're probably going to end up sick by the end of it," Eren proclaimed.
"Maybe," Arcee agreed.
===
Optimus continued to quietly read in his library, wanting to enjoy this moment of peace and quiet. The official holiday get everyone excited and he wanted to take a step back from that. He did hope the others enjoyed themselves on this day.
The Prime glanced out the window to see the stars in the night sky. He wondered what Cybertron was doing right now.
(17 has been asked, but the rest is free game).

The Battle for Trost.
Summary: At the Battle for Trost, the cadets have to make a plan to get into the supply room. The elaborate plan goes slightly wrong for Jean but luckily (y/n)'s right there next to him, ready to save him.
Word count: 1.2K
Warnings: blood, weapons, violence, death? titans

Smashing through the window I land inside the building alongside Jean and Marco. I look around seeing the others land inside also, the glass shattering. I take a couple of breaths to steady myself and then I walk forward seeing more cadets tucked under a desk. Crouching down in front of them, I slot my blades back into their sheaths and look at the cadets confused. They’re drenched in sweat and tears, and a few of them are decorated with blood splatters.
“What are you doing?” I ask calmly but with no response. “Aren’t you guys part of the supply team?” I ask tentatively with a few nods in return. “Then why aren’t you fucking supplying?” I ask in a monotone voice but the aggression is quite evident. The girl cowers back slightly whilst the other leans forward.
“The Titans! They’re in the basement!” He yells, scared. “We didn’t know what to do!”
“Work it out, that’s what you’re meant to do. Kill the bastards and supply. That is your job!” I say, now raising my voice. I sigh rolling my eyes and standing up, stepping away from them but Jean has a different idea. He grabs one of them by the collar, pulls him up and punches him square in the face finishing what I started.
“You abandoned us!” He yells at them.
“Not to say he doesn’t deserve it but we don’t have time,” I say as Marco holds onto Jean pulling him away. He sighs before calming down.
“Fine. But later if you survive this you better believe there will be consequences.” He spits before relenting.
Then suddenly one of the walls is smashed by a titan’s face.
“Jean get down!” I yell, pulling him down to protect the both of us from the rubble.
Two titans look through the hole in the wall and the whole room erupts in panic. Screaming, shouting and disorganised chaos. The rest of the supply team hiding in various parts of the room flee, the only thing they seem to be good at, leaving us.
“There’s too many people!” Someone exclaims and runs out following the crowds.
I pull myself up from the floor, ripping out a shard of glass lodged in my hand with a hiss and I stare at the skinless faces that just implanted themselves in the wall.
I watch them emotionless as I see a large fist crash against their faces. My eyes go wide and I stare in shock before I’m interrupted by Connie, Mikasa and Armin flying in, crashing through the windows. Connie tries to explain the titan who just punched the other titans stating that he’s trying to help or at least isn’t an enemy at this point in time.
I watch in awe as it destroys other titans, stamping on their napes and seemingly using martial arts moves against them, kicking them and tripping them the way we’re taught. He knows fighting moves and also knows the titans’ weaknesses.
“Whilst it’s great he’s helping us or whatever, we don’t have any gas and our blades are fucked and there are titans in the basement! We need a plan to get the supplies.” I say interrupting them.
“She’s right,” Armin says, wiping some blood off of his head.
“I’m sure there are some weapons somewhere around here,” Jean says. “It's a military police base, there’s bound to be some sort of guns.”
“Guns don’t kill titans,” Mikasa says matter-of-factly.
“Do you have a better idea, do you wanna try to strangle a titan instead?” I ask her and she stays silent so we head downstairs to find the weapons.
Jean, Marco, me and a few others search for guns and carry out the boxes once they’re found. They’re old army shotguns with dust on the crates.
Armin devises a plan on how to distract the titans in the supply room so the best of us can cut their napes and kill the titans. He explains it a couple of times to make sure everyone understands and then everyone gets what they need. Marco gives me his blades as he’s been selected to shoot instead and my blades are blunt. Thanking him I walk over to Jean who’s testing the guns despite being on the blade side of the plan.
“Good luck,” I say, placing my hand on his shoulder.
“I’ll need it.” He says with a sigh.
“Don’t fuck it up,” I say and pause looking at his worried face. “But if you do…I’m right there next to you.” I say before walking off again to get in my place.
The plan’s set up, everyone’s in their places and I start to hear the lift start to lower. I can feel the anxiety levels rise as they’re lowered and I look to my side. I nod to Jean before turning to look at the bottom of the lift. The moving lift has got more than just my attention, it’s luckily got the attention of the titan dawdling around the room.
The cadets look terrified as they stand on the lift staring into the approaching titan’s eyes, they get closer and closer but they’re not allowed to fire. I wait for the rogue shot of a nervous cadet to sound but I don’t hear it, only the command from Marco to shoot.
“Hold.” He pauses again. “Hold!” He says louder hearing the jittery cadet in front of him. “And fire!” He shouts, the cadets unleashing round after round of bullets.
They aim for the eyes as we run across the beams and jump slicing the nape of the titans. Mine falls to the ground and hear sounds of success from the right of me but I turn to the left of me and see Jean backing away from his titan, a very much alive titan, turning around towards him. The titan walks towards him slowly and I instantly jump into action. Without even hearing a command, I propel myself towards the titan, using its face as a hook for my ODM gear and swiftly cut the nape of the titan.
“Watch out!” I yell as the titan falls, me landing next to it.
I rush over to Jean who I see with eyes wide backed up against a support beam. The titan thuds to the ground behind me as I kneel in front of Jean.
“It’s okay.” I say calmly taking his hands in mine. “It’s dead. You’re safe.” I reassure squeezing his hands. He looks up at me and stands up before enveloping me in a hug.
“Thank you.” He says, sincerely.
“Of course, I told you I was right there next to you.” I say with a rare smile usually saved for a more private setting.
We separate and I look around at the others, no titans seem to be living which is good and all the humans seem to be living which is also good.
“Is everyone okay?” I yell, not being able to see over some of the titan bodies.
“There were a couple of complications!” Reiner yells back.
“Is anyone hurt?” I ask.
“The only thing hurt is egos.” I hear Reiner yell and a couple of people laugh.
“Thank god.” I whisper to myself pulling myself into Jean’s side.
I see Marco’s worried face as he looks down at us. I give him a thumbs up and a small attempt at another smile and he sighs in relief that, probably, his two favourite people are still alive.

In Time. (Levi Ackerman/Attack on Titan Fan Fiction)
Chapter 4: The Aftermath.
A/N I am skipping through a lot just because you've all seen the battle of Trost and I think it'd just be boring to write about it all, so we skipping to just after where they know that Eren is the titan now.
Trost was overrun with Titans, and the graduates and their higher-ups were spread thin until an unusual abnormal began to fight the other Titans. It had managed to wipe out most of the Titans around the base. Its body was now slumped on the floor. The remaining 104th cadet corps, and their superiors, watched the titan closely, its nape began to rupture and Diana stared on in shock as Eren emerged from inside the abnormal.  His body freed itself from the muscles of the titan. Without thinking, Diana and Mikasa, using their ODM gear, rushed over to Eren,  Armin following close behind. The three landed on the titan body, Diana looking down at it in shock, Mikasa pulled Eren into her arms, letting tears fall down her face. You see, the battle of Trost was long and emotional and came with many casualties, one of which the group thought was Eren; seeing him here was both a relief and a slight worry for the three. Diana knelt beside Mikasa and Eren, wrapping her arms around them both. Despite her concern about seeing Eren emerge from a titan, she was relieved to see him alive.
Mikasa, helped by Diana, picked up Eren and carried him over to the roof of HQ to get him to safety from the remaining Titans. Diana looked Eren over, ensuring he wasn't badly injured. Her eyes were fixated on Erens bare arm and leg; those which, Armin had told them, were bitten off, but they had now seemed to have grown back. A confused look fell on Diana's face; how is he alive?  She stared down at Eren, grabbing his bare arm and examining it.
"We should get him outta here, maybe take him to medical?" She then suggested, looking up at Mikasa, who looked down and nodded. Together with Armin, they took him out of HQ and over the wall in one of the lifts. Their journey was short-lived when the four were greeted by a large group of Military Police on the other side. Sweat began to form across Diana's forehead, they're here for Eren. Diana readied herself, her hand hovering over the handles of her blades; her need to protect Eren began to take over. The MPs began to circle the small group, pushing them back up against the wall with Diana and Mikasa standing guard in front of Eren; Armin stayed with Eren, still knelt behind him, ensuring he was ok. Eren's gasp pulled the girls from their guard, turning back to face Eren. He was awake now.
"Are you okay?" Mikasa questioned almost desperately as Eren took in his surroundings, an obviously confused look on his face. Diana turned away from him, her eyes scanning the MPs that stood before them. She noticed their weapons. They were drawn as though they were ready to take on a titan. Their faces, however, looked mixtures of terrified and confused.
"Look at me! Eren, can you move?" Armin pleaded, but Eren didn't respond. Diana turned back to them again, a worried look settling back on her face. Eren looked drained and almost lifeless.
"Eren, you gotta tell them everything. They're terrified, but they will understand!" Diana told Eren, snapping herself out of the worrying state before returning to the MP'S. Eren began to mumble, but the MPs grew more unsettled. A bead of sweat began to roll down Diana's forehead, the uneasy MPs were causing her to feel nervous, her hands slowly gripped the handles of her blades.
"Son of a bitch wants to eat us, you watch!" One of the MP's snarled, Diana stepped forward slightly, keeping her eyes glued on them, her hands almost trembling with the thought of actually having to fight these people. She understood their fear, though, she felt fearful of and for Eren. How was this possible? Was he hiding this from us? did he even know?
"Cadets Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, Diana Lando, and Armin Arlet, the four of you have jointly committed an act of treason." One of the commanders yelled. Diana's eyes darted to him, a glare now resting on her face. "Whether or not a swift execution is the result depends on you!" He added. Treason? Execution?  Did they really think we were behind this? Diana's mind raced, she stood her ground, despite this, her defensive stance was still strong. "Any attempt to move from where you stand, anything I deam the least bit suspicious will be met with cannon fire, do not test me!" The commander continued, Diana let out a low growl, her grip only tightening on her blades, but she daren't move, people she could fight, but canon fire was a different story. "Answer carefully, Eren Jaeger; what exactly are you? Human or titan?" The commander boomed, though his voice betrayed him, he was scared, confused like the rest of them.  Eren sat silently for a moment, looking round at all the glaring faces, Diana turned to him and they locked eyes, her glare softened, guilt rang through her like an alarm, he looked so tired and confused.
"I am sorry, sir, I don't understand!" Eren responded, having no clue what was going on. Why were they asking him this? The thought flew through his mind.
"Answer me, damn you! Evasion will get you nowhere!" The commander yelled back. "Don't try to stall with pretend ignorance! You don't stand a chance; you'll be blown to hell before you can assume your true form!"  He continued; Diana had turned back to the MPs by this point, growing tenser by the second. She stood her ground, along with Mikasa, both ready to protect Eren at any cost. To protect all of them. Diana's eyes began to scan the situation, trying to see if there was any way to escape this without getting hurt. No solutions came to mind. The MPs had the small group covered in all spots. Is this how the journey ends?
"What true form?" Eren choked out, Diana frowned, did he really not remember anything?
"Please, plenty of us saw it happen!" the commander yelled back. It was true; many people, from both the MPs and Garrison, witnessed Eren's emergence from a titan; it wasn't exactly hard to miss. "You emerged from the body of a fallen titan right before your comrades! We've let a creature like you slip through and infiltrate Wall Rose!"
Diana's eyes darted again, fearing the MPs were about to begin their attack.
 "You are a risk, and I have the right to eliminate you!" The commander continued. "I will not let this situation stand; every moment I waste mulling over your supposed innocence puts us all in further jeopardy from an attack by the Armoured Titan!" He is correct; the thought entered Diana's mind: we are wasting time, and the armoured could attack at any moment, but Eren is innocent; he helped us. "Do you understand? I can not waste any more time or manpower on you! My conscience will not falter to watch you die!" The commander pointed at Eren in rage, his words causing Diana and Mikasa to tense up further, their minds trying to take in the other soldier's discussions on how it would be easier to kill Eren now while he was human.
Mikasa finally spoke up. "Excuse me! I wouldn't, not while we're standing here!" She yelled, her eyes filled with fire. "Unless anyone's feeling up to the task, in which case, well, we're happy to demonstrate our own techniques on you and every last inch of your traitorous flesh." She pulled out her blade, and Diana followed suit, though her actions were slightly hesitant. Though not willing to threaten, she was willing to fight any MPs who tried to take out Eren.
"Okay, somebody talk to me now, what the hell is this?" Eren piped in, his eyes darting between his two friends and the MPs.
"Mikasa, Diana, you can't take them all on!" Armin called out, now standing up. "Even if you took down a few, there's nowhere to run inside the walls!"
"Whoever comes at Eren deals with us!" Mikasa snapped back. "I'll take on the entire regiment if I have to! I don't give a damn what they try to throw at us." She snarled, barely looking back at Armin.
"This isn't the only way; they're just scared; they don't understand what's happening!" Armin tried to reason. He had a point. Diana's mind raced again. If I were in their position, I'd be doing the same. We need to calm down and just talk it out!" Mikasa's lips parted slightly, her mind quickly forming her rebuttal, but the commander called out once again.
"One more time! Are you a human being or a titan?" The three turned to Eren, His face still confused, but his reply dripped with determination.
"I'm Human!"
The commander did not look convinced; his face was still full of fear. He raised his hand, ready to give the signal to fire on the friends. Diana's eyes widened. She whipped her head back to Eren, whose face looked equally shocked. She threw her blades down and rushed to Eren, with Mikasa following.
"Armin head to the wall, we've got Eren!"
"Wait, no!" Eren yelled back, but Diana grabbed him, forcing him back; he struggled against it, tearing himself from her grasp. He ran over to Armin with Mikasa, signalling Diana to follow, which she did with haste. He wrapped his arms around them. The cannon fire sounded, but a pulse of electricity shot through the air as a titan body formed around the friends, blocking the cannon fire.
He'd turned again.

can you please talk about some soft levi moments
Well, there's so many, really, haha. I could go on for pages about all the moments which really show what a good person Levi is.
I really mean it when I say Levi is a sweetheart. His kindness and compassion manifests in his actions. He isn't given to big displays of emotion, so if one wants to really understand Levi, it's important to pay attention to what he does, how he reacts, how he acts, etc...
One thing that comes to mind is Levi's response to the population of Trost, when those men were gathered around him and criticizing him and the SC so harshly. A lot of those people's attacks were personal and petty, and also flatly false. But Levi didn't take any kind of offense. He didn't try to defend himself, or grow angry at their words He just took it. And when the ring leader of that mob, the one who was most in Levi's face and talking down to him so insultingly, was in danger of being killed by a rampaging carriage, Levi reacted immediately by kicking him out of the way, and pulling another man to safety with him.
I bring this particular moment up as a way to demonstrate that Levi's heroism is a natural part of his being.
His reaction here was knee-jerk. He didn't save those men with any thought, or with any premeditation. He didn't contemplate it, or think about how it would make him the better man than them, or make him look or feel good. His response was just to save them. That's who Levi is. A natural hero.
It's why I take issue with it when people say that Levi is somehow a "slave" to being a hero, because that suggests that he wants to be a hero for self-gain. That it's a personal dream of his to be a hero, some sort of thing he wants to accomplish for himself. It's not, though. It's just what Levi does. He acts heroically by nature in situations which require heroism.
We see examples of this throughout the story. When Levi saves Ramzi, when he save Mikasa from the Female Titan after Mikasa screws up, when he tries to stop Mikasa from cutting down Floch, when he rescues Jean and Connie in the final battle, or again during the battle against Kenny's squad. We see it in "No Regrets" when he rescues that one scout from being impaled on a sword, even though the same man had just put Levi in danger but cutting him off mid-flight. Again, it's just what Levi does. It's not something he aspires to be. It's just what he is.
And we see that manifest too in Levi's subtle acts of kindness. The way he makes sure to express his gratitude toward others for their hard work and sacrifices. Like Connie for confirming that the titan in Ragako village was his mother. Or Eren for managing to save them all from the collapsing cavern on the Reiss estate, also making sure that Eren understood that because of his efforts, they could now retake Shinganshina, etc... We see it in his efforts to comfort others, even if he's not so good with words. Giving Eren a handkerchief for his bloody nose, or trying to make Eren feel better about his own squad reacting badly when he manifested a titan arm, or helping Armin to accept that even though he'd killed a person and couldn't go back to who he'd been, still, him taking that action had saved Jean's, and possibly all of their lives.
Levi's thoughtfulness towards others is truly exceptional, and a true testament to his character, and to his empathy. He's constantly thinking of others, of things from their perspectives, of their dreams and desires and hopes.
A real indicator of what a good person Levi is, is that he helps people who have wronged him. It's easy to be kind when others are kind to you. It's not so easy when others have dumped on you in some way, or been cruel or selfish or judgemental. Levi is the opposite of petty. He just doesn't hold things against people, especially any sort of personal attacks, unless it's something truly egregious, like what Zeke did to those 30 soldiers in the forest, or the villagers of Ragako (and even still, with the latter, Levi made an attempt to understand WHY Zeke did it).
Anyway, yeah, I could go on and on. But then we'd be here all day, haha.

My Starlight…//Levi Ackerman x titan shifter! Reader
Summary: Y/N almost dies protecting what Erwin believes is the best course of action and in what would’ve been their final moments they confessed to Levi that they had feelings for him. Levi saves them and as they’re passed out from exhaustion he remembers the exact moment he started falling and the little intimate moments that they had had behind closed doors.
Warnings: angst with fluff
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Erwin is crazy.
That’s what others are saying.
The government is crazy.
Is what I say.
Erwin would never have someone murdered. Or stage Eren and Historia’s kidnapping. Erwin would never do what they’re accusing him of. But that’s the least of my worries. If Erwin’s plan is to work I need to avoid capture at all costs. Not only is Erwin counting on it, but my siblings, and all of humanity as well.
Eight years ago Erwin brought me and two of my little siblings inside the walls to integrate into human society. He took care of us until we were found a new home. For that I am forever in Erwin’s debt. I trust him with all I am and will be.
As for Levi, my captain, he has proven that I can trust him. It’s been more than once that he’s helped me through an issue. I, like most in my Cadet Core, am 18. But I am not like most of the others, I am a titan shifter. Levi never cared about that, he always made sure that at the end of the day I was safe, alive, and semi-taken care of. A lot of the other cadets think it’s unfair of Levi for him to treat us like this. I think he was more than generous with his treatment.
But then again, that’s just me. I lived outside the walls for the first ten years of my life, my father raised me to slay titans and to be a good soldier, I lived in Trost five years ago, I lived in the same filth that Eren, Mikasa, and Armin did, I’ve been protecting Eren as long as I’ve known him, and I was part of the Cadets that battled for wall Maria. I guess I’m just used to what would be considered “poor treatment”. But other than that Levi has helped me heal some trauma, one night he even helped me finally begin the mourning process over my brother who died twelve years ago.
Levi isn’t a bad guy, he’s just choosing with who he trusts and cares about. I respect that.
Right now I’m waiting for word from the Commander. I sit high in the trees and watch my surroundings diligently.
A snap of a twig caught my attention and my head snapped in it’s direction.
“Cadet! Orders from Erwin.” Hange called.
I jumped down from the branch.
“What are his orders, Section Commander Hange?” I saluted.
“He told me to have you start plan 34-C. Now, prey tell, what is this plan?” Hange asked.
“I’m sorry Commander, Erwin has told me to withhold that information from everyone until it is ongoing.” I replied.
Plan 34-C, code for: Hunt down the perpetrator and bring them to light, or if I have to, kill them. Meaning Erwin is in trouble and he needs me to be the bloodhound. It’s all part of his plan that doesn’t have a plan B.
“I have to go.” I told Hange, running off after Kenny Ackerman.
I found him pretty quickly. For a guy who has all this hype over being hard to beat he sure was easy to find.
“You can either come with me, or I can kill you and deliver your body to the government.” I spoke from the roof.
“Hah! Dainty lil thing like you can’t kill me!” Kenny called back.
“You wanna test that theory?” I put my hands on my swords.
“Heh, sure Sweetheart. I’ll test it.” He zoomed off with his ODM gear.
I smiled and decided the best course of action was to take him to the king’s court without him knowing that it wasn’t his decision.
I went around a building and cut him off, he went the way I wanted him to.
The chase lasted until I shoved Kenny through the window to the king’s court. I rounded and flew in to the room, landing right on top of Kenny as he was trying to get up.
“Y/N! Detain! Not kill!” Erwin barked.
I looked at him and nodded in agreement before pinning Kenny to the ground.
“I knew you didn’t have the heart to kill me.” Kenny said, it was slightly strained from my form pressing into his.
“The only reason you’re alive is because you are of more use to us that way.” I replied.
“Then here, let me egg you on to kill me.” He placed the barrel of his gun to my ribs and pulled the trigger.
Nothing vital, but it hurt like a bitch. I cried out through clenched teeth and held Kenny down harder, digging the heels of my hands into his collarbones.
“Damn, sweetheart, if you look this good in pain I wonder how good you’d look on my—” he cried out in pain as my nails dug into the meat of his shoulders so hard it drew blood.
“I thought you weren’t supposed to kill me!?” Kenny yelled.
“I may not be allowed to kill you, but I can fuck you up with my bare hands.” I hissed.
My ribs and right lung were on fire, stinging pain shooting through my body because of the bullet lodged in my right side.
Right then the doors flew open and a woman said to the room that wall rose had been breached.
No!
My siblings were there. This can’t be real!
One of the nobles said to close the gates and let no refugees enter this wall. I just about kicked his teeth in. I looked at Erwin, he sent me look as if telling me, “it’ll be alright, your siblings are safe.” I was confused but didn’t last long as I was shot once more, I was shot through the heart.
I cried out in pain and my grip tightened on Kenny’s shoulders.
“Y/N!” Erwin yelped, worried.
“I’m fine, Commander.” I reassured him.
A few minutes later I’m pulled off Kenny as my vision starts to go hazy. I was rushed to the hospital wing. I passed out as soon as I was laid on the bed.
Hours of fading in and out of consciousness later and my hazy vision falls on the door swinging open to reveal my higher-ups and some of my fellow cadets.
Levi was unfazed until his eyes fell upon my form struggling to stay awake.
Erwin was smiling until he saw the bullet wound still open.
“Why haven’t they been given medical attention yet?!” Erwin yelled at the nurse.
“They’re healing themself. I can see the titan steam.” She was unfazed.
“I can’t fully heal… the bullets would stay stuck in my body… cause more issues… I’m doing everything I can to stop the bullet in my back from entering my heart…” I explained.
“That’s a lie.” The nurse just left.
Erwin went after her, Levi rushed to my side, Hange went to wash her hands.
“Y/N, how are you feeling?” Levi asked, concern on his face.
“In an immense amount of pain, exhausted, but I’m at peace.” I told him, giving him a small smile.
“All of you go.” Levi barked at my fellow cadets. “Don’t give me that shit, Cadet. You’re not at peace.” Levi began tearing up.
“Yes I am, Captain. This isn’t a bad way to go. But I’d be lying if I said I have to do one more thing before I go…” I replied.
“What do you need?” Levi grabbed my hand.
“I need to tell someone how I feel… I’d be at peace in the afterlife if I would just be able to tell him…” I answered.
Did I mention that I caught feelings for Levi?
“Who? I’ll bring them in.” Levi said, tears threatening to break.
“You, Captain. I love you. I know I shouldn’t, but humor a dying person?” I pleaded.
“I don’t have to humor you, I love you too. And I’ll be damned if I have to live in this world without you again. I’ll be damned if you do see the outside world again.” Tears fell from Levi’s eyes.
“Don’t cry, Captain. We all die one day. Just do me a favor and tell Erwin to take care of my siblings for me.” I smiled at him.
“Say my name. Not ‘Captain’ my real name, please.” He pleaded with me.
“I love you, Levi…” I said weakly, slowly becoming unconscious once more.
“I love you to, My Starlight…” was all I heard before blacking out again.
The nickname reminded me of a poem I found on his desk a few weeks ago.
Darkness.
That’s all I’ve seen for most of my life.
No light.
I could only see myself.
Then I found you.
You lit up the darkness high above me.
You gave the sky beauty.
The darkness was less consuming.
I couldn’t stop staring at the sky.
At the bright lights in the sky,
That broke the darkness.
The bright lights that never faded even if you weren’t around.
Your beauty is the sky,
And the color dusting it your soul.
I couldn’t stop staring at you,
For you are the sky and everything in it.
The stars are your imprint on my soul,
The colors in the sky are your soul revealing itself to me,
The moon is your smile shining light on my dark world,
And the darkness behind the lights is what remains from before.
You never once tried to change me,
You just tried to bring joy to my darkness.
And joy you brought.
I’ve fallen for my starry sky,
I’ve fallen for the light in my darkness,
I’ve fallen for you,
My Starlight.
I woke once more, but I wasn’t in pain. No, I felt relaxed. I felt a hand holding one of mine and a soft weight in my lap. I looked down at my lap and my eyes widened. Levi was holding my hand and sleeping with his head in my lap.
Butterflies erupted in my stomach. My other hand came up to massage his scalp.
Levi stirred from his slumber, opening his eyes and beginning to lift his head.
“I’m sorry, Sir. I didn’t mean to wake you.” I apologized, pulling my hand away.
He stared at me with eyes like he was seeing a ghost. “You’re awake.” His free hand cupped my cheek.
“Yeah, where am I?” I asked the brunette.
“The medical wing in the king’s castle. You’ve been here asleep for the last two days.” Levi responded.
Everything came back to me.
“Did it work? The plan?” I sat up.
“Yes, now rest, Starlight. We need you for another mission.” Levi squeezed my hand.
“Captain…” I was speechless.
“Call me Levi when we’re alone, Starlight.” Levi’s thumb rubbed my cheek.
“A-alright, Levi.” I didn’t know what to say.
“I’m glad you’re alright, Starlight.” He smiled gently at me.
“I thought that part was all a dream…” I whispered quietly.
“It wasn’t, I’m glad Hange was able to get the bullets out in time for your body to go into overdrive and save your life. I’m glad I get to hold your hand and talk to you even if it is one last time.” Levi spoke.
“I’m glad too, Levi…” I replied, tears threatening to spill across my cheeks.
“Don’t cry, I’m here now, Starlight. I’m not going anywhere. I promise.” Levi moved from the chair beside the bed to sitting next to me on the side. He had drawn his hand from my cheek making it feel cold.
“Levi?” I whispered.
“Yes, Starlight?” Levi responded softly.
“What are we now?” I asked softly.
“Well what do you want us to be?” Levi started drawing circles on my hand clasped in his.
“I’d really like to be yours.” I looked deep into his eyes.
“Mine?” He spoke softly, also looking deep into my eyes.
“Yes. Very much so…” I murmured.
Levi smiled. “I’d like that too. Can I kiss you?”
“Please do.” I breathed.
Without any hesitation he pressed his lips gently against mine.
The kiss was soft and sweet. Levi pulled away a few seconds later.
“Was that alright?” Levi asked me.
“Yes. Another?” I requested.
Levi smiled again, “Of course, my love.”
Butterflies erupted in my stomach at the nickname.
Levi leaned back in for another kiss. This time it was slow, romantic. He must’ve been testing the waters before.
His tongue swiped across my bottom lip. Taking the que, I opened my mouth and he slipped his tongue in. The wet muscle explored my mouth and danced with my tongue. My free hand found its way into Levi’s hair.
When we pulled away I was breathless. “I love you, Levi.” I breathed.
“I love you too, Starlight.”
A prequel to the post I made for @sonofthesaiyans
(I didn’t plan to turn this into a mini fic but it just wrote itself lol)
Alive!Marco AU - Reiner and Bertholdt chat with Marco
Not long after Marco slightly recovered and joined the scouts, he’s been visited and kept an eye on by his friends. Jean mainly acted like a parrot on his shoulder - constantly checking to see if he’d find which Marco responded as politely as he can.
Sasha, Connie, Mikasa, Armin, and even Ymir and ‘Christa’ all talked with him whenever they could. One day however, Reiner and Bertholdt were a little curious with some things. Marco was all by himself in the mess hall, no one else was around, so they made this their opportunity to see him.
“Marco, there you are.” Reiner said and waved.
The freckled boy’s head jolted up in surprise, but calms once he notices it’s them. “Oh, Reiner, Bertholdt. It’s only you.”
Already are they looking off today. Bertholdt especially had a hint of wariness in his eyes but Marco never noticed. As for Reiner, he was more focused on Marco’s missing arm and eye on his right side.
“Sorry if we’re interfering, but we heard of what happened to you and well… we wanted to check if you’re alright.” Reiner admits calmly, scratching the back of his head.
“No, you’re fine. I was just thinking to myself but you can stay for a while.”
His relaxing smile was unnerving to them.
“Really? Has something been troubling you lately?” Reiner just straight up ask avoiding Bertholdt’s stare.
“Y-Yes.” Marco hesitates, he reaches for his half-arm with his only hand he now has.
Out of curiosity, Reiner and Bertholdt took their seats, with the feeling of tension in their chests. Marco pauses. It should be a bad sign for the older two but they kept their cool as much as possible (despite sweat already forming on Bertholdt’s forehead), after a few building minutes, Marco gained the courage to speak his piece.
“You see… I can’t stop thinking about what happened at the end of our last battle in Trost…”
A quiet gulp came from Bertholdt but it goes by unnoticed.
“It was a rough time for all of us, Marco.” Reiner interrupts. “It was our first real battle against the titans and Eren is now one of them. I’m not surprised that you’d be out of sorts since-”
“It’s not the battle itself, it’s what I don’t know that’s bothering me.”
“W-What you… don’t know?” Bertholdt asks, finally being able to talk since their conversation started.
Marco looks back up at his friends so he can be more polite while stating his worries, too worried to think that their stares are a little off putting.
“I don’t think Jean has told you about it yet, but I can’t recall what happened near the end of the battle.”
“That’s… strange.” Reiner ponders to himself for a bit. “What do you recall happening then?”
Bertholdt’s thoughts were ‘What are you doing?!’
“The last thing I remember was been given the orders to protect Eren from the titans while he plugged the hole in the wall, then the next thing I knew I blacked out and… woke up in the infirmary like this.” He points again at his missing arm and eye. “Everything in between is a blank.”
Reiner and Bertholdt silently look at each other while Marco continued with a sigh.
“I feel terrible. Jean especially was really worried about me when I came to; he told me the mission was a success but still.”
“Don’t be hard on yourself, Marco. We all did our best out there, even you, and none of us will ever take pity of you over something so minor in our victory.” Reiner proudly enlightened their mood.
Once Bertholdt saw Marco’s smile and light chuckle, he knew they were safe so he let out a nose sigh.
“Thank you, Reiner. I know I’m being foolish but I’ll be better from now on.” Marco smiled. “Now I must get going; Jean is probably asking someone for the hundredth time on where I’ve gone to.”
The two older ones gave reassuring smiles back to him, tell him to be careful out there and they left the mess hall soon after Marco was out of sight.
-
Things couldn’t have felt more awkward for poor Bertholdt, Reiner on the other hand, had a scowl on his face he’s attempting to hide. Out of the two of them, Bertholdt was the first to speak up.
“We should let this go, Reiner. He’s being his normal self around us so he clearly doesn’t remember.”
“It doesn’t make sense though.” Reiner responded. “We saw what happened so how could he possibly forget so quickly?”
(You’re saying this like you don’t have memory problems yourself, Reiner)
The taller boy glances around for any possible witnesses but no one is prying, but just in case, he mutters under his breath.
“We could take this as an advantage, because now he can’t tell anyone, right?”
Agreeably, Reiner nods his head in response. Both are still a bit wary but that string of hope was enough for the time being. With all their concerns and possible holes in their plan sorted out, in an unexpected way, they headed back to the headquarters where everyone else was located. Not until Bertholdt shared one last thought on his mind.
“W-We should probably tell Annie about this too. She’s been worried sick ever since.”
“You’re right. Maybe you can be the one to tell her then, since your missing her already while she’s in the MPs.”
“Th-That’s not the case here.” Bertholdt’s blush erased away his last bits of sweat on his face.
Reiner chuckles back deeply. “Only kidding. But you’re right, we should.”
