Opeth - Morningrise The second studio album by Opeth. It's the final Opeth album produced by Dan Swanö. It was also the last Opeth release with drummer Anders Nordin and bassist Johan De Farfalla. The album has a "dark melancholic" sound, and features acoustic and jazz styles. The album was well-received critically. Well fuck me I am old. Remember when Opeth made great music? Pepperidge Farm remembers. I first discovered Opeth and their LANDMARK 2001 album Blackwater Park via a tiny 2002 Guitar World article exploring the then-little known world of #extrememetal (that nu metal shit was still popular and, if I'm not mistaken the jerk offs from Creed were on the cover of this particular issue). And to think, at that time, the only way to discover music was downloading through Napster, which killed off tape trading like a red headed stepchild. Upon hearing "The Funeral Portrait" on the Music Choice channel, I found it to be the perfect blend of death metal intensity with lush 70s prog vibes along with a LOT of gothic undertones. Unfortunately they took the Camel influence a little too far in the years to come. If you can find the deluxe version of Blackwater Park, which features the bonus tracks "Still Day Beneath The Sun" and "Patterns In The Ivy Pt. 2", get it.  Jeder der Crimson schon einmal gehört hat, weiß wie irre und geil das Ding ist. Ein 40-minütiges Konzept-Album das eine apokalyptische Geschichte über eine Welt erzählt, in der die Menschheit keine Kinder mehr gebären kann. Allerdings wird ein letztes Kind vom Königspaar geboren. Nachdem die Königin bei der Geburt stirbt und der König seine Tochter alleine großzieht, sah die Menschheit in dem kleinen Mädchen eine Art "Gotteszeichen". Der König stirbt und es startet ein erbitterter Kampf um die Krone und Herrschaft des Planeten. Nachdem der Thron neu bestiegen wurde verbündet sich die letzte Nachkommin und rechtmässige Königin mit dunklen Mächten und erhält unglaubliche magische Fähigkeiten... (aus freien Stücken erzählt). 

Die Kehrtwenden und tragischen Ereignisse sind musikalisch spannend umgesetzt und werden von Sänger, Producer und Mastermind Dan Swanö in bester Melodic-Deathmetal Manier facettenreich dargeboten. Auf CD ist das Ding übrigens ein einziger Track. Crimson II sprengt jetzt den Rahmen, lohnt sich aber auch! Es ist eine Fortsetzung der Crimson-Story und leider das letzte Album der Band (wenn auch nicht in Originalbesetzung). Nach immerhin 8 (?) Studioalben und mehreren Demos und einer EP. 

ACHTUNG #nerdattack Auf Crimson spielt kein geringerer als unser Lieblings-Schwede Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) als Gastmusiker mit! Swipe for Insanity (Green Transparent Vinyl Edition).

Back. Sort of. Don't know how often I'll be on here, so don't get too excited. But I do plan on writing part 2 of my "Lift With Hatred" workout program in the next week. Equal parts serious info with some comedy like only I can pull off...and with the help of a few funny pics a very good friend took last week. Oh friend...you know who you are if you're reading this.
