Answering for both Echo and Griselda :3

⭐ What is your OC afraid of? Any phobias or some such? How do they act when scared and what helps them calm down? Does anyone ever find your OC scary? Why?

Echo is scared of no longer existing, which sort of replaced his prior fear of death, but seeing as he’s already dead as a ghost... yes. Total non-existence is a scary idea, even though he says he’d like to move on. And also demons. Don’t ask him about them tho. It is a bit difficult to tell when he is scared, but usually he’s a tad more skittish, and he will straight up just leave a situation, or try to.

It’s very rare that anyone finds Echo himself scary, but sometimes he will mess with objects and things. That said, he is also able to take control of people, and that can be terrifying to someone who doesn’t know what his intention is -- usually he’s just having a laugh, possessing a limb for a few seconds. And since people usually can’t see ghosts, even when they want to be seen, it can be very scary. Very rarely does he actually fully control someone, and that’s only when he wants to hurt someone, which he’s done once -- to the man (his biological father) who killed him, and so killed him in return.

Griselda is also scared of dying, although it’s not exactly a phobia. What is a phobia is large predator animals (like actual wolves and such, and bigger), since she was thought to have been attacked by one (which turned out to be a werewolf) one night while she was on a drive. She tries breathing exercises to keep herself calm if she sees one (in real life; if they’re on TV, it doesn’t feel as threatening).

She’s also terrified of hurting people she cares about, although she remains in control even as a werewolf.

The only time that anyone would find her scary is when she is in full werewolf mode -- on the full moon, which she can’t help (although she is in control of her actions, just not whether she transforms or not on the full moon). Even then, it’s rare that anyone ever sees her like that (apart from her friends, that is).

🌠 Who was your OC’s first friend? Do they remember them or are they still friends now? Talk about some of the people your OC has lost contact with over the years. Do they have any regrets about losing these people and would they revist them if they could?

Echo’s first friend was Owen, they met in primary school and stayed best friends up until Echo’s death; they even had the same job as construction workers and odd-job handymen. There are other friends that he’s had, but he doesn’t miss them as much as he misses Owen, or his family -- mum Nerys, half-sister Tiwlip, and his step-dad (Tiwlip’s dad) Mihangel. He does visit them all sometimes, but because they can’t see ghosts, it just makes him miserable, especially since his mum’s still not done grieving over him, but it does hurt regardless whether it appears they’re still mourning him, or if they’ve moved on.

Griselda’s first friend was a girl called Shadi, also having met in early primary school. They don’t talk these days -- Shadi moved away after high school, and they didn’t really keep in touch, sadly. But they’ve had other friends throughout: Farrah and Isra, also at primary school; Faysal and Anwen, in high school; Roderick and Hadil in uni; and currently, her fellow teachers, Ghufran and Madeline. They do miss their friends from school, but it happens, and they’re not too sad about it, but yeah they’d try and visit them if possible.

📀 How easy is it to shock your OC? To confuse them? To lie to them, to manipulate them? How are they with feelings of trust? Can your OC be trusted?

I’d say it’d be pretty easy to shock the both of them, but Echo is more likely to take it in stride, like water off a duck’s back, whereas Griselda is more likely to be outright stunned. Same as being confused by anyone.

I would say that Echo is more difficult to lie to or manipulate (at least not without any consequences), but Griselda might be more susceptible, I think.

Griselda is very trustworthy, but Echo can be... well. I said before that he can control people for a laff, and he loves a joke and a prank, so... mostly trustworthy, I’d say, except for when he feels like doing all that.

42 - That cat hates me!

The pale light of the evening sun shone down between the rows of brick buildings on the way back to Mihangel's flat. There was a faint smell of something summery in the air that made Strangeways feel vaugely wistful & melodramatic. She basked in the feel of the street - it might not have been much to look at, but Strangeways really loved Mihangel's neighbourhood. The old cemetery stood at the end of the street, the lychgate worn soft & covered in lichen.

A dash of dark grey darted out from a bush and froze in the middle of the street, looking at the pair of them, transfixed, with lamplike eyes.

Strangeways resisted the urge to meow at it, nudging Mihangel in the ribs instead.

'Oi-'

'Shut up, it's a cat, I love cats,' Strangeways stage-whispered.

'Yes. I know. You may have mention this once or twice before,' said Mihangel, gently sarcastic.

Strangeways knelt down on the cold path and stuck out her arm.

'Here kitty kitty...... little beastie........ c'mon little guy....'

Mihangel sighed a little bit.

'Here little kitty.... come here.......' Strangeways continued pointedly.

The cat unfolded itself from it's stock-still stance and started trotting over to her, meowing softly.

Strangeways grinned.

'I think he likes me!' She ran her hands through the grey cat's fur as it rubbed its head against her leg.

'Good for you. That cat hates me. I see around here all the time and he never runs up to me. I think it's the, yknow, undeath.'

There was a pause.

'Uh... Anyways.'

Mihangel shifted awkwardly. Strangeways' face fell a bit, though with her back turned to Mihangel he couldn't see her smile loose some of its sincerity.

Strangeways attempted to scoop up the cat, but it almost poured out of her arms and scampered across the street. She stood up and watched it slip under a bush.

Mihangel grasped for something to lighten the mood.

'Anyways, cats only like you because you're a witch,' she said antagonistically.

Strangeways rolled her eyes.

'I'm not a witch and you know that, I study supernatural phenomena and by extension of my profession I have merely picked up a few superstitions.'

The familiar path of an old argument well worn. No longer an actual quarrel but more a joke at their circumstance - the guy who died and the girl who can talk to ghosts walk into a graveyard.

Mihangel gave Strangeways an affectionate nudge as he shoved his hands back in his pockets.

'C'mon. It's not too cold yet, we could have dinner by the river and see if we can spot any faeries,' he said, only slightly teasingly.

'Yeah okay whatever. You better have something other than instant noodle and lemon drops. You should buy a loaf of bread sometime,' she replied, grinning a bit more than she possibly meant to.

'And I'll give you two quid if you find a blanket in the attic without any moths in it.'

⚰️ - if your character lost a loved one, what would they do? would they grieve and move on? try to bring them back? cling to their remains?

mihangel has been dead before so his feelings on a loved one dying would be. Complex. because he knows how dark and empty it is to be dead but he also doesnt know if he's remembering right. maybe the afterlife is a beautiful place & he just doesnt know b/c he got pulled back into being alive? he would mourn & try to move on but there's still that nagging feeling of 'what if they really are alone'.

strangeways can talk to ghosts by partially entering their timestream and partially pulling ghosts into the normal timestream and She Would Do This. however she'd soon discover that talking to a dead loved one is actually a Terrible way to your live your life but there would definitely be a long period where she'd Want to sulk & be miserable about it and talk to them in the ghost world, even though it takes a lot of effort for her & only the most determined souls make fully lucid ghosts. especially if they've been dead for a while & are starting to fade, she'd still try to bring them through to this world to talk even when its incredibly draining for her. someone else very close to her would have to convince her to stop. she would be the kind of person to think 'i ALWAYS have to carry this around with me & be sad about it' even though she has an extended lifespan. she would think 'in a thousand years i still have to be upset about this' even if realistically the pain would have faded by then.

🕰 - what would your character do if they were stuck in a time loop?

YAYAYYYA TIMELOOP I LOVE TIME MESSED UP NESS!!!! they both have Time Things going on hehe

mihangel would. not be coping well with that. in his backstory a Time Thing happened to him that meant that events changed and he is no longer dead, and he would probably think that this is the universe tryng to right itself & fix time by putting him in a loop or a pocket dimension of something. he would be freaking out about being stuck in a timeloop (is he aging? will he ever die? is everyone else looping to or is it only me stuck here? how do i even begin to get out?), she has anxiety which isnt helping. i think (depending how long she's there) she would go through a period of like. doing slightly odd but not actually harmful things just b/c there are significantly less consequences. go for 2am walks by herself. be slightly weird in public. climb up the side of a building and sit on the roof all day.

strangeways would go straight to the 'oh hell yeah, no consequences!!' stage where she'd think 'well if the universe doesnt sort this out in a few days i'll deal with it then, but in the mean time i'm gonna steal a tv and set a couch on fire and go drinking & go to the loudest concert possible' but there would be a deep undercurrent of The Dread. she would just think well surely this will sort itself out soon right????? as she goes out for the 173rd night in a row of wandering around in the dark looking for something interesting to do, as a distraction while she hopes the problem will go away. she'd think to herself 'oh wow i could use this to study so much' only to find that her notes have unwritten themself you know. idk maybe the room wouldnt reset but you get the idea.

🌃 - what would your character do if they were trapped in a labyrinthine city that's alive?

THEYD BOTH BE HAVING SO MUCH FUN AND ALSO BE DEEPLY UNSETTLED BY THE EXPERIENCE YIPPEE

knowing them they'd probably be there together, so. mihangel would be trying to figure out where they are & how to get where they're going & get out again without getting lost/trapped/consumed by the city/etc. probably trying not to touch the walls. he'd be more Disguested when he works out the city is Alive i think. morbidly fascinated but more wanting to just Get Out Of There. strangeways would be pushing button and picking stuff up & being like 'haha wow this is kinda creepy & cool' while trying to cover up that she's actually really unsettled by the whole thing. mihangel would be interested in Looking Around, and strangeways would want to try & communicate with the city, whether or not they can work out if thats possible.

Mihangel was only a little bit more frightened than he cared to admit. He stood in the eerie almost-darkness of the woods near her grandparents old farmhouse, the full moon seeming brighter than it should, like a flood light in a horror film.

This feels like a goddamn horror film, she thought to herself. Wheeling around, searching frantically for something beyond the trees, hoping that the movement was simply the rustling of the branches. A bird, maybe. Probably just a bird.

If only Strangeways was here he thought. She always seemed to have cool head in these sorts of situations, and for sure had her fair share of spooky forests in the middle of the night. If only the Doctor was - no. The Doctor didn't need to be here, Mihangel was perfectly capable of dealing with this himself. Whatever this was. God, so much for fucking around and finding out. He knew Strangeways would tell him he should be more careful, that he was too reckless, but.... well, he sort of felt that if curiosity killed the cat, at least they had nine lives to spend. He'd already been through one.

A man stepped out noiselessly from behind a tree. He seemed almost immaterial, as if he was projected on a sheet like a student film screening. He was wearing filthy jeans and a shirt that was nowhere near warm enough for this kind of weather, and something was very, very wrong.

Mihangel was almost too scared to say anything. A ridiculous part of him thought wow wouldn't it be awkward if I'd just spent the last half hour hiding from a homeless guy, but he knew that it was more than that.

'We've missed you, Mihangel,' the man shaped thing said. 'You do know who we are, don't you?'

'I'm not going back there,' she said, forcefully loudly. 'Not until I've died for real, which, hopefully, won't be for a very long time.'

She tried to sound convincing but wasn't quite sure it came across.

'You will always return there in the end. All things do.' The man shaped thing smiled twistedly. 'We have not come to threaten you. Only to remind you.'

A beat. Mihangel stared. What was the point of the creepy following-across-the-feild-and-into-the-woods thing if it was just a reminder that I'll die just like everyone else?

The man shaped thing continued.

'We know you are curious. We could feel it, when you were one of us, that you wished to... properly understand what was happening to you. Not just the flailing panic all the other living feel. You wished to know the how and the why.'

'Well? And will I ever find out?' Mihangel blurted before she could stop herself. 'Why me?'

The man shaped thing grinned sickly once more as it started to dig it's way back into the ground.

'All in good time.'

3- What is your OC's fatal flaw? Are they aware of this flaw?

strangeways' is probably thinking that the correct solution to a situation she doesnt like is to just. do nothing about it and believe it will either go away, or be fine, or blow up in such a way that it all gets dealt with really quickly. avoidance? like if she has a big argument with someone she'll just avoid them for as long as possible. having an Alien Problem? her first instinct is that its probably not thatttttt bad right? surely this will be fine and there's no need to do anything tooooo drastic to try to fix it right?? it will all sort itself out???????? i think she is aware of it but possibly not the magnitude of how That Is Actually Not Ideal - when she realised she ages slower she more or less never saw her family again - she'd rather send them the occasional letter than have to see them age & explain why she isnt. like she'd rather not see her sisters or parents again (she wasnt super close with them but yknow, its her family) than have to explain any of what happened to her. but this is combined with being really bad at letting things go so she'll be doing nothing to change a situation while also being devoured by thinking about it. like a fear of change sort of thing

for mihangel..... in a sort of inverse of strangeways, mihangel sort of thinks that nothing too bad will ever happen to him - like yeah he died but that wasnt too bad was it? like he came back its literally fine. he can do xyz kind of dangerous thing because she'll probably be fine right? yeah she was distraught for months before he met strangeways because the doctor had left him back on earth without barely explaining anything but like she's mostly over that now so like its totally okay. this is a normal way to think about things 👍 like she doesnt believe she's indestructable or anything but has the potential to become very reckless, or impulsive, because she's either a) lived through worse & has convinced herself it wasnt that bad or b) just doesnt think anything could possibly go wrong. like she knows that dangers of, say, going swimming alone in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere in a whim, but just does it anyways cos he doesnt think anything bad will happen to Her. does this make sense

5- How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?

ooh this is a good question because i uh. am not super sure what either of their base character motivations are lol

i think strangeways and mihangel both are likely to end up in a situation where they're both so in deep with a situation that they Cant just stop whatever it is & go back to their normal lives. b/c strangeways doenst know when / if she'll die she'd probably let herself get, ah, a wee bit closer to finding out than most people if its in pursuit of something she wants - though i think mostly she wants to feel normal again. the time vortex changed stuff within her & she doenst know what & has been living with it for so long thats she's not sure what she was like before, who she could have grown up to be. she'd think well, if i'm going to die then at least i know that i can & i'm doomed to be immortal, and if i dont die then i'll find out later. she's about 75ish but still looks in the mid/early twenties range so she think shes lived a normal lifespan and wouldnt... mind? if she doesnt live for far longer even though she technically could. damn thats dark uhm sorry. she does want those extra decades for her hobbies though :)

mihangel i think would be driven to one (1) act of violence and then be so horrifically guilty about it for the rest of her life, like anxiety-spiral guilt over one thing, that she's do anything & everything to never do it again. he would think of it like that too

9- Do you have a specific lyric or quote which you associate with your OC?

not at the moment no :( i havent made playlists for them or anything though i might in the future. strangeways esp. listens to english trad folk & like nico, and mihangel to post punk & goth of a specifically 80s variety and im sure theres lots of stuff in there thats very Them but i dont have anything at the moment. however while writing this i did think of that bob dylan quote about joan baez 'she looked like a religious icon, like someone you would sacrifice yourself for' both of them have defintely had that thought at somepoint about someone

31 - "No, don't say it, I want to guess!"

Mihangel swore loudly in surprise as she thumped into the doorframe of the tiny living room in her flat, bumping the lightswitch and illuminating the room with a lurid orange light. Strangeways giggled in spite of herself.

'Oi stop it! Why the hell do I have to close my eyes anyways?' Mihangel put on a tone of mock annoyance but was still grinning.

'You'll see, you'll see! Keep 'em closed.'

She gently guided Mihangel into the center of the room, patted him on the shoulder and scarpered off.

'Hey, where are you going? I can hear the floorboards creaking are you in the attic now?' Mihangel laughed.

A rush of creaking wood and heavy bootsteps. Strangeways' low, sonorous voice said softly 'I found this for you at the charity shop. It's... uh... it's for your birthday.'

'My birthday's not 'til March.'

'Yeah whatever.'

She placed the heavy cardboard package in Mihangel's hands. Eyes still closed he made a show of lifting it up and down.

'I couldn't find any wrapping paper so I just put it in a box but uh. You can open it now.'

Slowly and playfully opening one eye, Mihangel started prising the tape of the box. Inside was a glint of a dark glass lens and silvery plastic.

'No way!' he exclaimed. He tore open the remainder of the cardboard and pulled out an only slightly battered camcorder.

'Mate I always wanted one of these! Oh my god....'

She looked up at Strangeways, who was blushing a bit.

'Thank you, Strangeways, really. Thank you.'

'Yeah okay, don't go getting all soppy on me. Glad you like it.'

Without warning, Mihangel threw his arms around Strangeways, wrapping her in a deep hug. Strangeways breathed in her scent, something smoky and floral that she could never bring to mind but recognised instantly. Mihangel gently kissed the side of her forehead.

'Thank you, really,' he grinned like an idiot. 'Lets go make a terrible movie.'

61 - "Well, I will make it your problem."

The wind howled through the broken windows of the old apartment building, blowing decades-old scraps of paper down the dated linoleum floors.

'Hey Mihangel, come look at this,' Strangeways called down the hallways.

Mihangel picked his way into the remains of someone's bathroom.

'What do you make of this one?'

The bathtub had been completely shattered, swamped by an ornamental bathroom plant that had long since gone feral, growing into every available gap. The room was covered in vines, except for a near-perfect circle in the middle of the floor, on which was drawn a bizzare symbol that seemed to have been etched into the floor with acid.

'It sort of looks like the face of an insect, if you look at it a certain way,' said Mihangel. 'Alien?'

'Knowing our luck, probably,' replied Strangeways, only half joking. 'I don't know. Look at the way the plants have avoided it so perfectly. Bit random for anyone to create, but you never know.'

She sighed & snapped a picture on her camera.

'Hmm. It seems kind familiar, I'm sure I've seen this before somewhere.'

'You say that about a lot of things.'

'And I know a lot about weird symbols! I don't know, maybe someone was trying to protect their bathroom from something.'

'This building's been condemned for years, does it look that old to you?' Mihangel asked. 'Look, can we go now? I'm hungry and this building is giving me the creeps.'

'Sure, just give me a minute.... wonder if i can get a sample of this stuff...'

A stiffly cold wind blew in through the broken window, causing the leaves to rustle. From somewhere within it, the wind echoed like a voice. An old missing person's poster floated past the doorway behind them.

'Seriously, Strangeways, this building is weird.'

'Not my problem mate.'

'Well it's gonna be your problem if we get abducted or whatever. I think we should go.'

More wind, almost sounding like a low chord.

'Okay. You have a point.' She handed him the polaroid she'd taken. 'Look at that.'

🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

well its kinda a long story but my friend lin (they had. a lot of urls) who has sadly now deactivated had a dream that was incredibly themeatically consistent with doctor who, which involved with tenth doctor losing a friend, a young guy who in their dream, looked kind of like micheal sheen (mihangel is the welsh version of the name micheal and it just sort of stuck). as a character she had developed vastly from that now & is pretty unrecognisable from the original dream (i was writing a fic based on it) but yeah thats where he comes from <3 she doesnt look like micheal sheen anymore though. though she is still welsh

💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?

hmmm i dont know about any Phobias in particular but i think he'd hate the idea of getting sick. not a fan of hospitals they just ick him out even when theyres nothing particularly nasty going on

they havent met yet but she would HATEEEEE clara oswald. too much yearning toxic yuri in too many direction. i'm thinking he meets the doctor after the end of s9 / the husbands of river song so twelve doesnt technically. remember clara. but if things had gone different and twelve was constantly mentioning clara mihangel would get jealous of this girl he's never met. BUT ALSO they would just not get along that well. theyd both to be jealous of twelve and twelve would just be like yay i love having the two of you in the tardis :) and theyre trying to psychically scratch each others eyes out. like mihangel's pretty shy and reserved around a lot of people but clara???
