BMW Concept Mille Miglia, 2006. A retro-style coupé using the platform and engine of the Z4 M coupé. It was designed by Chris Bangle to commemorate the 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupé that won the race in 1940 and set a speed record that still stands
The predilection of Nuccio Bertone far sports cars led him to create various models in which was reflected that design imposition. That was the case with the SIATA Amica, built on tuned Fiat 500 mechanics, which first appeared in 1938 and which was fitted with a tubular chassis and attractive cabriolet body in 1949.
The car’s pretty body was designed by Count Revelli de Beaumont, and was built by Bertone. This car offers a sporty character, as evidenced by the interior worthy of a true small GT with low seats, door panels with elegant chrome handles and two sub-dials placed on the painted steel dashboard. At the front of the hood, the badge of the brand mentions “Fiat Siata Derivata” and it was produced in just a short series of 14 units between 1948 and 1952. With the weight limited to just 580 kg, the car can reach a top speed of 100 km/h – a speed, which was way beyond the reach of the normal Fiat Topolino range. Some versions of the Amica has been changed for competition, participating in major Italian races like the Mille Miglia.
Lancia Lambda MM Zagato Spider, 1927. The Lambda was introduced in 1922, 100 years ago, and changed the automotive world by introducing both monocoque construction with no separate chassis and independent suspension. There was also a narrow angle V4 engine. The Lambda was faster over a twisty road than anything Lancia had hitherto produced. When Italy's famous open road race, the Mille Miglia, was instituted in 1927, a trio of Lancias took the first three places overall.
