Characters:
GN!Reader, Luka
Pairings:
GN!Reader x Luka
Warnings:
Mix martial fighting, mentions of bruising, make outs, hair pulling, lip biting, very little grinding, heavily implied that both parties are aware of the others feelings and return said feelings but never actually asked each other out officially, canon divergence, Luka and reader gently bully each other as a way of flirting, fluff at the end
A/n:
I barely know anything about professional fighting, so there will be inaccuracies. I made the reader more dominant/assertive bc that's what I write for. There's little to no info on Luka so he'll probably be ooc by the time we learn more about him but ehhh.
This fic was inspired by this playlist on YouTube.
_____
It was Tuesday, which means one thing: sparring with Luka.
Both of you had converted your basement into a gym a few years back, it had cost you a fortune, but you told yourself it was an investment for your career. Couldn't keep your job if your skills weren't sharp, training is important if you want to keep moving up in the ranks which would mean you would get better pay.
The better you were paid, the better you could live without having to stress about money. Maybe if you saved up enough you could eventually set up a retirement fund.
Music played faintly in the background as Luka, your childhood friend, and you were sparring in the ring. Luka had just landed a punch on you, but you could take anything he dished out.
"You punch like a bitch," you dodge Luka's next punch with a teasing smile, leaving his back exposed, and quickly jabbing your fist in-between his shoulder blades and are rewarded with a painful grunt. "You're leaving yourself too open, Lulu."
"Eat shit and die." Luka scoffs in mock annoyance at the nickname, both you knew he adored the name and wore it with pride, he quickly readjusts his stance before swinging again and grazes your left shoulder. "Can't help that I got my new arm, not used to the weight just yet."
"Yeah, yeah, fuck you too." You laugh as you sweep his legs, knocking him on his back due to his new arm throwing off his balance. "One…two…three…you're out!"
You pause to admire the forming bruise on his jaw, eyes trailing down his neck then torso, licking your lips as you make a mental note to give him some ointment and cold packs in a bit.
Luka grunts as you straddle his waist, panting heavily from the fight while trying to reorient himself after the wind was knocked out of him, he swallows heavily as he looks up at you with half lidded eyes.
He can't help but laugh as you lean closer to his face before pulling him into a bruising kiss, the way you bite on his lip makes him shudder in excitement, if this is what happens when he loses a sparring session with you he might have to lose more often.
Both of your bodies flushed together on the mat, your fingers tangled in his pretty red hair as you deepen the kisses in a languid fashion, giggling as his hands grip your hips like a lifeline. Each tug of his hair earned a needy whine that you greedily swallowed up into the messy kisses, lazy rolls of your hips to tease him and are rewarded with desperate keening sounds.
You break away after what seems like forever, panting softly as you admire Luka's dopey lovesick expression, before kissing his forehead gently and miss the way his eyes flutter.
Carefully, you get up and grab the usual post workout supplies: first aid kit, cold packs, medicine, towels and drinks.
"Listen, we'll keep goin in a bit." You lazily sat down beside him, tossing a towel and drink to him before opening the first aid kit. "But first we need to get all this post workout stuff dealt with or neither of us will be fighting this week."
"Fair enough," he snorted before taking some medicine, knowing if he didn't take it now he would hurt worse later. "I'm in you capable hands, darlin."

CHAPTER 15
Nine months of dating Ivar. Nine months of happiness. Nine months of amazing sex. Nine month of love.
The interest in your relationship publicly has definitely reduced, mostly because the pair of you don’t go anywhere the photographers would be. Ivar has adapted to your lifestyle easily and fits into your world perfectly. You still struggle sometimes fitting into his world, but you are getting better at the glitzy parties and rubbing shoulders with the extreme wealth in your city. You much prefer it when you guys do normal things together though.
You have become friends with his brothers, they were easily won over, especially Hvitserk. He and Iris have been on a few dates and he seems besotted with her. She likes him a lot but is being very ‘Iris’ about the whole thing and is playing it cool.
Ubbe is dating someone new and, aside from cracking a couple of jokes in the beginning, leading Ivar to threaten to murder him, in a seriously scary tone, your ‘thing’ is long forgotten.
Since the ball you haven’t seen too much of Aslaug, she has been away, staying in her house in Iceland for months.
She calls you the week she gets home and she comes to visit your shop.
You bond over your mutual love of fashion. She spends a long time looking through all the clothes you stock and buys some dresses and some jewellery.
“You have a really good eye, Y/N. A wonderfully eclectic mix of fashion in stock. Have you thought about expanding? Opening more boutiques across the city?” She asks curiously.
“I have, I am hoping to by the end of next summer, I just need to make sure the business plan is foolproof, find a space, blah blah! It will be a lot of work.”
“I can help, I am always looking to invest in small local businesses…” she trails off and raises her eyebrows.
“Aslaug, without wanting to sound ungrateful, because I really am grateful for the offer, I’ve got my heart set on doing it all by myself.” You give a determined look.
“Although, if you know anyone in real estate that can give me a heads up of any suitable spaces becoming available I will gladly take that help,” you give her a cheeky smile.
“It just so happens I do know some people who could help with that. I will get in touch with them,” she gives you a wink.
“Also, the jeweller who made the bracelet and necklace you bought could maybe use some help, she’s amazing but hasn’t managed to get herself a proper workshop. If you were interested? Her name is Sadie.” You hand Aslaug one of Sadies cards which she slips into her purse.
“You are a very determined young woman, Y/N. I can see why Ivar loves you so much. What time do you lock up the shop? We should go and get cocktails.”
“Yes! I bloody love a good cocktail, come back at 4pm?”
You think you might have finally cracked the cool exterior, Ivar will be so pleased and your heart swells.
—————
You wake up early on Christmas morning and throw on an oversized hoody, before Ivar is stirring and you grab the heavy present on the kitchen counter and head to the elevator.
It opens on the ground floor and you head in over to the reception desk.
“Preston, Happy Christmas!” You shout and laugh as he jumps out of his skin. You hand him over the present.
“What’s this?” He looks in disbelief.
“A pressie, open it!” You are so excited.
He opens the present to see a state of the art coffee machine and his face lights up.
“What? Why? You shouldn’t have done this, Y/N.” His face is tinged with annoyance.
“Oh shush, you always look knackered, we thought you could use it,” you retort.
“Wow, thanks so much, I don’t know what to say.“ He holds his hands up.
“Just a gesture for putting up with Ivar’s rude ass for all these years! Are you going home to your family soon?”
“He’s not so rude anymore.” He tells you with a wink “I finish in 30 minutes,” he says happily. “Happy Christmas, Y/N, thank you.”
“Happy Christmas, have a great day. Hope the twins are happy with their bikes.” You give him a quick hug then head towards the elevator.
When it dings and the door opens Ivar is standing, with his arm above his head looking at the floor and his eyes travel up you until reaching your face and creasing with laughter.
“Will that never get old?!” You ask him in fake annoyance, he knows you find it adorable.
“Happy Christmas, baby! Did Preston like his present?” He asks, pulling you in for a big kiss.
“Yep, he was very happy,” you bury your face in his neck.
“Do you want your present?” Ivar asks with a cheeky smile on his face.
“Is it an orgasm?” You ask, raising an eyebrow.
“Later,” he laughs out, “come on, it’s in the bedroom.”
“This is getting more interesting..” he looks back with a withering look.
“Get your mind out of my pants, filthy girl,” he wags a finger at you.
“Can I give you my present first? I’m so excited!” He laughs at you and nods.
You run to your side of the bed and pull out an envelope, skipping to him to hand it over. He opens the envelope and reads the Christmas card inside, smiling. He opens the card and two pieces of paper fall out. He picks them up with a furrowed brow, reading the words on them.
“Wha..what is this? Japan? You bought us tickets to travel to Japan?!” Pure disbelief on his face. He keeps looking back at the tickets and to you, clearly having trouble processing the information in front of him.
“What the fuck? This is too much, Y/N! We said small gifts.” His face is shocked.
“Meh, you are worth it. Are you ok? Do you want to go? I thought we could go and try some authentic sushi? Remember when I first came here?” You are searching his face for any sign of happiness.
“Y/N, this is too much. You can’t afford this.” His face still shows nothing but shock.
“I can baby, I wouldn’t have bought them if I couldn’t afford it, you know that. The shop has been doing amazing. Do you not want to go?” Your voice is small and dejected.
“Are you kidding me? It’s my number one place I want to visit! Oh my god I’m so excited, I'm just in shock, baby. Thank you! Thank you so much. I’ve never had a gift like this before.” He pulls you in for a crushing hug, kissing you all over your face and neck until you are swatting him away.
“Do you want to open your gift?” He asks excitedly.
He walks to his drawers and pulls out a big black box with a giant gold ribbon tied in bow. He hands it to you and sits close to you, watching your face intently as you undo the bow. You lift the lid on the black box and pull out a red box that you recognise. It’s one of Sadies.
You look at him and his face is so earnest you give him a kiss.
“Open it,” he urges you.
You open the box and inside is the most beautiful necklace you’ve ever seen. It has three platinum chain mail chains twisted round each other all joined together with a diamond on each clasp. It has a round platinum pendant on it, around the edge there is an engraving and in the middle is a beautiful, green stone.
“Ivar……” you look up at him, your eyes misting up.
“I need to explain it!” He is like an excited puppy.
“I designed it, with a little help from Sadie. It’s platinum and diamonds on the clasps..” the look on his face is one of pure amusement, you can’t help but laugh at him despite wanting to act offended, a clear call back to the unwanted bracelet he gave you.
“The circle of the pendant represents my never ending love for you,” his face changes from amusement to seriousness.
“The engraving is the date I first laid eyes on you.” You bring it closer to your face to read it.
“The date of the merger party.” You tell him, with a big soppy smile on your face.
“And the green sapphire in the middle is the exact colour of the blazer you were wearing when we met. I knew from that very moment you were the one for me. Forever and always.”
You don't know what to say, your eyes well up with tears.
“Do you like it, Y/N?” He asks nervously.
“It’s the most beautiful, thoughtful present. I love it.” You wipe your tears of happiness and kiss him. “You can't tell me off for the gift I got you, this must have cost a fortune, Ivar,” he just shrugs and grins.
“I left a space on it for another engraving. I am going to get it engraved with the date I ask you to be my wife.” his voice is smaller than before and his face is red with a blush. You gasp at his words and pull him close for a cuddle.
“Just for future reference, I will say yes.
THE END - thanks for reading :)

Trains Suck in the USA
So, in America, our inter-city/interstate train service SUCKS. I’m sure individual cities run well enough, but I am not talking about those. I am talking about the trains that go from sea to shining sea.
Let’s start with the first issue:
Amtrak.
They are, and always have been, a notoriously awful. They either need to be dissolved (which is my preference) or overhauled by breaking them into regional pieces. E.G. Amtrak East, Amtrak West etc. I suggest breaking them to bitty bits because maybe if it were smaller, those in charge would be able to get something done. They’d all still answer to a centralized office and tickets would be good cross sectors but the trains themselves would be under the purview of each segmented office. It could also promote friendly competition by seeing which section can ACTUALLY MAKE SURE THEIR DAMN TRAINS ARRIVE ON TIME.
Issue 2: Rails to Trails.
We need to stop that shit NOW. “Why don’t we have rail service to XYZ?” because we ripped up our train tracks for walking trails. You want trains to be a good contender for public transit, that initiative (should it still be in existence) needs to go. I’m not saying walking trails also need to go. Far from it. Make more of those WITHOUT ripping up the train tracks.
Issue 3: The Freight Companies OWN the rails.
In my trip across the US from Eastern Seaboard to the South West, the train I was on had to stop because the freight trains have right-of-way, because the freight companies own the damn rails.
The only solution I see here is going back to what we used to do: It was all ONE train. No Passenger or Freight only. MIX THEM. Have passenger cars mixed in with non-volatile freight.
Your chemical and oil trains can stay on their own, thank you very much. The only liquids that should be mixed in with people are ones we can safely drink (as all liquids are drinkable at least once).
Issue 4: The USA is DAMN big
I often see it brought up by pro-train proponents that about how some countries, like France or Japan, have good rail service.
Yeah and France is around the size of Texas and Japan is similar in area to West Virginia. It’s easy to have good rail service when your country DOESN’T span across a major landmass and you can put a country’s worth of effort for rails in that smaller space. Hence when in my Amtrak section, I suggested breaking it into bits.
It wasn’t just because Amtrak is awful, it was the fact we have a rather large landmass here in the USA.
As for fixing that issue (aside from breaking up Amtrak) I think that there’s the sticking point. We can’t shrink North America (even if some days it’s fun to joke about slicing off Florida or just waiting for the Big One to knock California into the sea).
It would take a large investment to do this and it would have to be a proper investment not some political garbage of “I’m going to give this place in the middle of nowhere a brand new monorail to....this rock!”
No. It has to be actual, focused on the train service between the states and cities and nothing else. Maybe a train refresh. Maybe a renegotiation with the Freight companies.
Make the rails a proper alternative to the roads.
This will mean that it can’t necessarily be a “green” revitalization. It just needs to be done, without gimmicks.
That’s why this won’t happen.
Politicians love to talk a big game but they lack the capacity of getting their heads out of their collective asses to care about what we on the ground need. They can never just get things done.
Can it be made environmentally friendly? I’m sure it could but that can’t be the end-all-be-all if you’re trying to get the trains more efficient in the here and now. Just focus on making interstate travel by train not suck first and worry about the planet later. Earth could kill us any time she likes. Remember that.
Besides, efficient train service would still be a major eco win. Less cars going coast to coast (and with trains going more frequently, it might also help with shipping too and getting big rigs off the roads) and all that.
So, Tl;Dr—Trains suck because Amtrak sucks, we ripped up our rails, freight companies own what’s left, and the USA is damn big.
The way to fix this would be to focus on making trains viable alternatives first and worrying about the planet later.

Exploring the Best Types of Off-Road Tires: A Complete Guide
Off-road enthusiasts understand that the right tires make all the difference when tackling rough terrains. From rocky trails to muddy paths, choosing the right off-road tires is crucial for performance, safety, and vehicle longevity. This guide explores the best types of off-road tires, helping you make an informed decision for your next adventure.
1. All-Terrain (A/T) Tires
All-terrain tires offer a balanced approach, making them perfect for those who split their time between on-road and off-road driving. They feature a versatile tread pattern that provides good traction on gravel, dirt, and light mud. While they may not excel in extreme off-road conditions, A/T tires are ideal for daily drivers who enjoy occasional off-road trips.
Best for: Mixed driving, gravel, and light mud
Pros: Versatility, durability, comfortable on-road ride
Cons: Less aggressive grip for extreme conditions
2. Mud-Terrain (M/T) Tires
Mud-terrain tires are designed for serious off-road adventures. With deep, aggressive tread patterns, they can easily navigate through thick mud, loose sand, and rocky terrains. These tires often feature reinforced sidewalls for added protection against punctures. However, their noisy on-road performance and reduced fuel efficiency make them more suitable for dedicated off-road vehicles.
Best for: Muddy trails, rocky terrain, loose sand
Pros: Excellent off-road traction, durable construction
Cons: Noisier on-road, lower fuel efficiency
3. Rock Crawling Tires
For those who love to conquer rocky terrains, rock crawling tires are a must. These tires have large tread blocks and a robust design that offers superior grip and protection against sharp rocks. Rock crawling tires often have reinforced sidewalls to prevent punctures and enhance durability on jagged surfaces.
Best for: Rocky and technical trails
Pros: Exceptional traction, puncture resistance
Cons: Not suitable for highway use, expensive
4. Sand Tires
Sand tires, or paddle tires, are specifically designed for driving on dunes and sandy beaches. They feature large paddles or scoops that help push the vehicle through loose sand, providing maximum traction. While they are unbeatable on sandy terrain, their use is limited to such environments, and they are not suitable for on-road driving.
Best for: Sand dunes, desert trails, beaches
Pros: Superior grip on loose sand, specialized design
Cons: Limited use, not suitable for other terrains
5. Trail Tires
Trail tires, often called hybrid tires, combine elements of mud-terrain and all-terrain tires. They feature a moderately aggressive tread that offers good traction in varied off-road conditions, including light mud and rocks. Trail tires are ideal for off-road enthusiasts who need a tire that can handle weekend adventures without sacrificing everyday usability.
Best for: Light trails, mixed terrain
Pros: Balanced performance, durable tread
Cons: Not as specialized as M/T or rock crawling tires
Choosing the Right Off-Road Tire for Your Needs
Selecting the right off-road tires depends on the type of terrain you frequently encounter and how often you venture off-road. If you need a versatile option, A/T tires might be the best fit. For extreme conditions, consider M/T or rock crawling tires. Each type offers unique advantages that can enhance your off-road experience and ensure you stay safe on rugged trails.
Investing in the right off-road tires can transform your outdoor adventures, giving you the confidence to tackle any terrain with ease.

Camping Gear Essentials: Why a Camping Storage Bag Should Top Your List
With camping, organization is key. As a seasoned outdoors person or camper, the right gear can set your camping experience apart from others, and with the organization of one's item, it makes all the difference. A camping storage bag is an essential tool for one to streamline his setup, making sure that his belongings are easy to access and thus protected and thus organized. Here's why a camping storage bag should top your list among other camping essentials:
Why a Camping Storage Bag should be your Priority?
Camping storage bags bring many benefits that make this equipment absolutely necessary for most outdoor ventures. Here's why every camper needs one.
Organization on the Go
A camping trip is packed with so much stuff, ranging from cooking equipment to food items and clothes and toiletries. If you are not well organized to assign a storage solution for your items, you might end up finding a messy campsite that makes it hard to identify what you need at any one given time. The camping storage bag organizes the gear neatly so that everything is at its place and within reach.
Weather Protection
Sometimes, when you go camping, weather conditions become so unpredictable. Ensure that the storage has quality durable materials that would keep your belongings safe from rain and dust. In addition, water-resistant or waterproof bags should be used to ensure that your gear is kept dry regardless of the weather conditions.
Mobility
Most camping storage bags are designed for carrying convenience. They often come with one or more straps or handles, so you will find it easy to take them along. Whether you would like to hike to the camp location or simply transfer your gear from the car to the tent, a camping storage bag allows you to do that almost effortlessly. Camping storage bags are available with light, spacious designs to keep all the essentials without a weighty burden.
Space Efficiency
An ideal camping storage bag ensures that you make the best out of the available space. You can separate toiletries, clothes, and cooking supplies using multiple compartments and pockets. You will not have everything mixed up and tangled together to be able to make the best use of the storage space available.
Durability for the Outdoors
While camping gear can take quite a beating, there's no reason why it needs to be dragged to the ground. Invest in a storage bag that holds up well to outdoor abuse. Look for tough materials like waxed canvas, which resists abrasion and remains agile in rough terrain.

Destination Upfitters has a premium option: the Wax Canvas Camping Storage Bag. It is roomy, with eight pockets where you can put all your toiletries, clothing, shoes, and camping equipment. Recurring Themes
As I have been looking over everything I want to write about here, I am noticing that a lot of the subject matter is pretty heavy. However, I also have many humorous stories to tell as well. I thought it might be best to structure future posts to include a mix of both instead of simply info dumping a ton of dark and heavy baggage into a post and calling it a day. Make no mistake, that heavy stuff will be prominently featured, but I don’t think it needs to be the whole focus. After all, if anyone I know ever ends up reading this I would hope they get to see both sides of my life. The light and the millennial gray.
Upcoming and recurring themes: (1) Tales from 2020: There is a popular meme format that has been going around lately, and for about the past 3 years (starting in autumn) I always see posts touting things like “It’s almost 2025 and I still haven’t even processed 2020.” My initial reaction is always “OMG I totally agree”, but then I never did the work of processing it. So, why not actually write about it and tell the stories from the most mixed bag of a year I have ever experienced. Examples: A childhood role model walks out into the desert to die. This was the year I was finally able to invest in my 2nd child. A year that strained every relationship. A year of contact tracing, death threats, and uncomfortable phone calls. The discovery of my 16-year-old half-brother. Feeling protected by the community I served. Falling in love with school nursing, despite the pandemic. The bond of shared trauma and new lifelong friendships. Nurses eat their young, and rejecting the culture of trial by fire. And many, many, more smaller moments of light in the darkness.
(2) Formative pre-nursing experience: As stated in the initial post, I am a Nurse. It was a long journey to get here though. My journey in particular to get here was much longer than most. I already had one college degree before transitioning to this field, and my previous degree had no STEM credits. Because of this, I had an elongated nursing assistant run. Being a nursing assistant was a world all its own and I always tell people it was the best thing I never ever want to do again.
Examples: The two patients who left their mark on me as they died. Ghost stories (Help! The killer potted plant, and the piano concert from heaven). The 104-year-old teacher who was still teaching. Wisdom shared by patients. Concrete examples of true unconditional love. Poop stories (It comes with the job, but they won’t be as gross as you imagine.) Why the Bulb Fields by Vincent Van Gough is my favorite piece of art. Appreciation for good mentors who lead from the front.
(3) Trail marker: Stories that fall into this category will be the stories that are the dearest to me, and have impacted my life in some major or irreversible way. These will be stories that caused a perspective change, and they will usually be a millennial gray.
Examples: Working for my favorite boss and learning how to lead relaxed. Botching an interview but getting the job anyway. Studying for the NCLEX, and state-based memory. Becoming a homeowner, and the parallels of home repairs to self-reflection and inner work. Summer of 2011 and how my Korean friends changed everything. The birth of each of my children. Our wedding, and the darkness surrounding it. Going no-contact with my father in-law and the subsequent order of protection. The importance of acknowledging failure, and refusing to become stagnant. The neo-nazi and the horse.
(4) General appreciation posts: These will be just as the category name suggests. Just a section of things to really geek out over and show love to.
Examples: Any fandom I appreciate. Magic, the gathering. Pro-wrestling (Non-WWE). Anime. Fantasy. Sci-fi. And other general nerd stuff.
(5) Chasing the Omega Physique: In my present day, life is a lot easier than it has ever been (:Knocks on wood:) and I finally have time to devote to real and tangible physical fitness. I have been going to the gym for many years, but nothing tangible has ever come of it, and I've never been able to lose the weight I want to lose, or develop the lean muscle mass I have always dreamed of having. What I mean by the Omega Physique is complicated, and it will be explained more thoroughly the first time this segment occurs.
But here is a hint:
This is just a preview and I am working on my first real entry coming very soon. I hope anyone who finds this, enjoys the things to come. Sincerely, ~ (Z)

Step-by-Step Guide to the Annapurna Circuit Trek
When I first chose to walk the Annapurna Circuit, I was both excited and terrified. This quest proved to be one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. In this book, I’ll lead you through each step, providing insights and personal experiences to help you get the most out of your adventure.
Preparation and Planning
1. Research and Gear Up Before starting the trek, it’s essential to do thorough research. Learn about the weather conditions, the best time to go, and the challenges you might face. Invest in good quality trekking gear. I remember spending hours researching the right boots and backpack. Trust me, having the right gear makes a huge difference.
2. Physical Fitness This trek is long and can be physically demanding. Start preparing a few months in advance with regular cardio exercises, strength training, and practice hikes. I joined a local hiking group which not only improved my fitness but also gave me a sense of community.
The Trek Begins
3. Arrival in Kathmandu Your adventure begins in Kathmandu. Spend a day exploring the vibrant city, getting your permits, and making sure you have everything you need. I used this time to visit local shops for any last-minute essentials and to soak in the rich culture.
4. Drive to Besisahar From Kathmandu, take a bus or jeep to Besisahar. This is the starting point of the trek. The drive itself is an adventure, with beautiful landscapes and a chance to chat with fellow trekkers. I remember feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety as we approached Besisahar.
The Trekking Route
5. Besisahar to Chamje The first few days are relatively easy, passing through lush forests, terraced fields, and charming villages. The locals are incredibly welcoming. I was invited to a small village celebration where I got to taste traditional Nepali food and dance with the villagers.
6. Chamje to Dharapani The trail gets steeper and more challenging. You’ll cross suspension bridges and trek along the Marsyangdi River. The scenery changes dramatically, and the mountain views start to appear. One evening, after a particularly tough climb, I sat by the river, feeling a profound sense of peace.
7. Dharapani to Chame As you continue, you’ll notice the landscape changing to pine forests and apple orchards. Chame is a lovely town where you can rest, enjoy hot springs, and replenish your supplies. I still remember the relief of soaking my tired feet in the hot springs.
8. Chame to Pisang The trail offers stunning views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Annapurna IV. Pisang is divided into lower and upper villages, both offering unique experiences. I chose to stay in Upper Pisang for its panoramic views. Watching the sunset over the mountains was magical.
9. Pisang to Manang This is one of the most beautiful sections of the trek. You’ll walk through pine forests, past small lakes, and monasteries. Manang is a larger village where you can rest for a couple of days to acclimatize. I spent my acclimatization day hiking to the Ice Lake and visiting the local clinics to learn about altitude sickness.
Reaching New Heights
10. Manang to Yak Kharka The trek gets tougher as you gain altitude. The vegetation becomes sparse, and the air thinner. Take it slow and listen to your body. I found myself taking more breaks and appreciating the rugged beauty of the landscape.
11. Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi This part of the trek is challenging due to the high altitude. The landscape is stark but stunning. Thorong Phedi is the last stop before the big climb over the pass. I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness knowing that the hardest part was just ahead.
12. Thorong Phedi to Muktinath via Thorong La Pass The day you cross Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters) will be the most challenging and rewarding. Start early to avoid the winds. Reaching the top was emotional; I felt tears of joy and relief. The descent to Muktinath is long but the views are spectacular. Muktinath is a sacred site for both Hindus and Buddhists. I found a deep sense of peace and accomplishment here.
The Final Steps
13. Muktinath to Jomsom The trail from Muktinath to Jomsom is mostly downhill. You’ll pass through the beautiful Kali Gandaki Valley. Jomsom is a windy town famous for its apple orchards and local produce. I celebrated the completion of the trek with a slice of apple pie.
14. Return to Pokhara From Jomsom, you can either fly or take a bus/jeep back to Pokhara. I chose to fly, which gave me a bird’s eye view of the mountains I had just trekked through. Pokhara is a great place to relax and reflect on your journey.
Final Thoughts
Trekking the Annapurna Circuit is a spiritual adventure as well as a physical endeavor. The majesty of the Himalayas, the compassion of the locals, and the friendships you make along the way leave an indelible impression. As I write this, I am filled with deep gratitude for the experience.
If you’re thinking of going on this adventure, make sure you prepare thoroughly, listen to your body, and enjoy every moment. The Annapurna Circuit will challenge you, but it will also reward you in ways you cannot conceive. Happy trekking!

Cold
“...they looked at me like I were Ishgardian, you know.”
In other words, chilled. They looked at her as though she were a cold thing, even Jaaster did - and he was close to the same ever-amiable nature as Ayla’s.
That was a turn ago, maybe more with how inaccurate her grasping assumptions have been lately. Xiaohu was finding it earnestly difficult to record time and its passing at this point in her life, too many affairs mixed with the need to leave no paper trails. At first, she never called back to that memory. It hadn’t breached her mind one onze, not since: there was relief that they had done as they bade for once, and there was relief that she wasn’t either dead or crippled (once again). There was no time, and scant interest, in even considering how her friends had taken her in.
But she thought about it, for the first time, just suns ago.
“If you want to ignore me in the process, the decision is your’s. You already do half the time as it is.”
She’d been listening to her own roar (proving the point) more than she was exactly listening to Evilie. And, originally, that sounded like ‘Fuck you, fuck this marriage, and fuck Gregoire while we’re at it’ within that gut of her’s. Then, when they were both running in the dark of that jungle, it swapped to the acquiesce of ‘I do ignore you. I do ignore you.’
It was considered later. Lightly; a surface level kind of polish that layered over the top of something that desperately should have been ground down first. Of course, guilt has sat there in the corner of the room since. But it never bothered to clear its throat and raise its voice. It was conveniently distant, as ignorable as Evilie. She didn’t have to say hello to him.
But blood has always had a way of reaching Xiaohu like no one else could.
Only blood ever seemed to stir her.
And it stirs her now.
Here, the Observatorium.
Evilie was preoccupied, and so Xiaohu went in her place. It was a logical tactic that they’d done before and would continue to do. Naturally, it was some sort of eager bid for investment. A real flex of academic might in the usual groping for purpose that most organizations here sought. Maybe another time, when they were younger, she’d have been more fascinated. She would have placed more weight herself into the standard literature of their times. But this is now and all she can think of is—
I saved someone’s life here.
Right there, in that very spot. Give her just a tick of the bell and she could recall it as clearly as a vision walked. She is recalling it as clearly as when the experience was first forged. That sluggishness of a bleed left for almost too long, that way it caked and peeled off of him like paint where her fingers pressed against coagulation, that vacillation between his wet, tortured, breathing and smothered silence.
It wasn’t personal at all, but she can remember that sheer, exhausted, relief that flooded her when she reversed the pressure and heard his gasping; heard that quiet, quiet, whistle of air leaving his punctured cavity. And though she was aware already of a secret to be taken to three graves, she felt proud for it: I just saved your fucking life, Austrant de Durendaire.
She used to be proud about that sort of thing. By this Star, she used to be that person.
Would she have felt anything if that were now?
When did she get so cold?
(Do you remember those dreams?)
“Where is your fortitude, your strength of spirit? Are you so easily influenced by the world around you?”
That used to cut her, and it was never meant for her. It had no meaning, no association.
“You’re hurting him. He’s crying because of you.”
That made her want to cry too, so much that the raise of her handgonne made her fucking sick to her stomach.
“Vander, are you okay?”, “Did something hurt her?”, “Are we all okay? I-Is Kowa okay? Tarkhan? Esen? Jaaster?”
Where did that change? That concern? It used to be for everyone. Not just them.
I stood up for someone once.
And she, outwardly steady, stood up for them so ferociously inside of herself (could she have died there for what she did in another Star?)
“Us giving to others doesn’t take away what we give to you.”
So why has she become so flippant, so reserved, in this giving that was so available, so limiting? It came so easily to her, once. She cried for that same cruel woman she argued against just minutes after— and she cried for so long around that mouthful,
“I’m just glad she’s okay.”
Before that, she cried for four, five— maybe a whole sennight, for another woman she never said so much as ‘Hello’ to, because she knew what it was like. After that, she cried when Vander broke his leg. She cried a lot more, for everyone. She cried for Evilie, for Avenai, for Torithas, for Silvestre, for Lux, for, for, for. And she stood up for so many people.
Vander doesn’t even know how many fucking times I’ve had to stand up for him when he wasn’t there.
She used to care, so much fucking more.
I shattered my fucking arm to protect something a dead stranger loved.
And now that’s all she could think of. She used to be so much fucking worse, so mean; so cruel; so eager for just that. But she used to be much fucking better in other regards, too. She used to be stirred by something other than blood. She used to cry for them. She used to stand up for them. She used to smile for them, too.
But I notice I don’t smile anymore.
Their smiles for her have gotten so much warmer, so trusting in her permanence; her support that was once always there. Syrupy in these quiet gatherings and their quiet departures in the past two turns, but she doesn’t do what she used to. She used to search for their eyes, implore for that eye contact, I see you there, and smile back.
I turn away and I say farewell now.
She didn’t even smile when Vander left the gallery. That’s another eyeopener that things are fucked up, and have been fucked up for some time, that she can’t smile for Vander. She can still smile for Evilie, but, as she continues to walk, and nod, and loose the reins to a body that can entertain through the same automatic pathway as a heart or a stomach, something else begins to strike her now, too.
I don’t talk like I love her anymore.
When is the last time her wife has been able to feel wholly adored without it being an ephemeral thing? Perhaps two turns now. And there’s something truly dismal about that, even as she struggles simultaneously to hold onto that recognition enough to just make it finally feel real.
Guilt is sitting at that corner, and I can’t be fucked to say hello.
Frankly, did she even need to? It’s a thought that feels so indulgent, so confident; it’s the same sort of gratification of an ancient itch as that Dragoon she had spoken to. And maybe it’s that - that audacity to privately roll the selfishness of that feeling through her fingers over and over again, that makes her guilt stand up, and speak up. So exasperated with her, her lack of self-control.
Can you wager how many times she cries without you?
At first, it still feels unreal - like something separated and alone from her mind. Long enough for her to tune back in, finish the tour, sign off a donation, ‘listen’ to the personal gratitudes of some of the researchers, and eventually end up atop the back of a damnedable chocobo for her ride back to Ishgard’s walls. Then it circles right back,
She cries when you aren’t there.
Then… then she’s back at home, at some point in this ocean of lost time. They’re both in the bedchamber, sitting at the table for supper. Though Xiaohu, at this point, has pushed her plate away along with her chair as well. Her body sinks back into the large, large, seat, one leg over the other and arms hugged tight across herself. Not an unusual pose for when they’d chatter slowly after the sun’s affairs, but changed some. For once, not hiding away the thoughtfulness plaguing her: no retreat to the study or waiting for her lover’s sleeping breaths; that weigh of her eyebrows and narrowed focus to her eyes, and the backs of two curled fingers pressed up to the grooves of her parted lips
When did I get so cold?
It is unusual enough that the taller woman, attuned as she is, seems to find it difficult to determine what sort of spirit lays there. Glancingly, under her own brow while she cuts into her meal, comes out that voice that plays so softly, so delicately, compared to the husk of smoke that airs her own, “...what is on your mind, my love?” speaks; wrapped up in a language learned almost entirely for Xiaohu.
Was it the marriage, or was it those catacombs, where I lost that warmth of mine?
She’s done such a shoddy job telling Evilie how she feels, the feelings so ever-present as they are, themselves, ephemeral as of late. It swells up there in her breast, so very real in that initial flush, with the smile broken so easily across that face. Patient and self-deprecative, her partner has never held an onze of shame leaning into the most done-to-death things, especially when she was attempting to redirect her mind, “Did I get something on my face?”
“I almost fucking died because of them!” I was so angry, I was so disappointed in those moons. It wasn’t the only thing, they weren’t the only people.
The smile comes easy (in spite of everything), though as she expected - her feeling starts to drip through her fingers like an hourglasses’ sands, “Do you think I would tell you even if you did?”
Or maybe it was the Crozier, itself, Kami, I was so disappointed. “...it’s crushing me… I can’t say no to Vander or Kowa.” And, fuck, did it hurt so much when… I shouldn’t. Not that part. Not now.
“No, no I suppose you have a point there. You’d get a kick out of Laroue’s face, letting me walk out like that.”
—it all started to hurt then. For all of that. It was that; it was that. I was so, so, fucking disappointed. I felt so powerless, so trapped. I was so exhausted from caring so ceaselessly. I had to care for everyone. I had to. Someone got hurt no matter what I did, because I couldn’t stop my own friends, my own family. It felt like no one was listening. I was drowning. Evilie had to watch me drown and drown until one sun my head didn’t come back up. I didn’t want her to see that. I was hurt so badly, so many times, because of them. And I cared for them so much still through all. For turns. I hid the blame for them, I was always doing that. I pulled strings I didn’t want to pull, I hurt people I would have never hurt. I let people go that shouldn’t have. I felt like I was amongst monsters, and I still cared so much. I fought with Evilie too, for them. Even there, I took the blame away. I did this until Esen told me to stop playing God and I—
“He looks like he has glaucoma whenever there’s something out of place, I absolutely would.”
—I gave myself permission to stop caring about anyone.
“...one moment, my dear,”
(I used to call her so many things much more often; my darling Evilie)
Another lurch in which time seems to bring her forward, in a blink, to another moment. To the jewelry box.
I got cold from that.
It’s not hard to find at all - plainly visible. Always visible. It stands out like she has always stood out; like the things and the people who have stood out to her.
I’ve been so fucking cold.
Is it the aether pulling at some sense beyond her own, thrumming in that necklace? Or is it the memory, memories, so infused within?
And I keep taking it out on Evilie, I told myself I could take a break and stop caring about her too.
She tests every heartbeat; something she hadn’t done in so long. All three, mind, claw, and heart - throbbing with the steadiness of their lives, across the distances both forged and walked from one another.
It’s easier to give myself that, and I really want to, most suns.
For a moment, she stops - frozen by the unadulterated feeling of a thought only half-experienced earlier. And her breath catches, sympathetic pain rushing across the network within her lungs,
SHE CRIES WHEN YOU AREN’T THERE.
Suddenly, it’s hard not to cry when she hasn’t cried in, generously, at least a turn. Her insides want to crumple in on one another, like the compression of a mass of unwanted papers, inward, and inward. The wetness blurring her vision is so minute, and yet it feels like a wellspring after so long. she cries when you aren’t there. But she needs to breathe, and she needs to do this. So she breathes. And then, she centers, with her thumb pressed to the animal’s tiny breast while she walks back. She pushes that aside; she focuses on the joy that Evilie, herself, manages to summon so often.
How could I love her so much when I have these bells and suns where my thoughts feel so cruel, so debasing, of us? How could I have been able to bear ignoring her for so long?
There’s always been an enjoyment she’s had with this before, to observe in this way. No matter how she felt about their marriage, there was a doubt in the back of her head that it would ever lose its novelty.
Why have I grown so much more patient myself, so much more equal with her, and yet I’ve still found a way to continue to be such a wretched person?
The flutter thrum of her lover’s heart is like clockwork, whether it is when they, themselves, are flush or Xiaohu experiences this way. When Evilie knows that her wife’s attention is upon her, that the infinite world of her enigmatic lover has begun to narrow, and narrow, and so willingly mold itself to her; when she notices, and that weakness is in her heart.
Maybe I need to take a break from not caring anymore, too.
Maybe it will come in piecemeal, in the maddened back-and-forth of her soul, or in a fell swoop, or maybe it truly doesn’t come at all. However it would ultimately go, there is something in her core, her arms, that resolves with an aplomb that has been so scarce as of late. Her body moves fluidly, and somewhat distantly (Is this one of Felore’s recordings?) to a thrum of its own; separate from the chilled nothingness it had been subject to. Pacing, and mirroring, gradually to the thrum felt within her palm. She moves within an old element of her own (cast in a new light now), drawing up to sit atop the table where Evilie has already cleared her space. She feels her legs tap to a stop against thighs while she rotates to look upon her wife directly. And then her palms slide in a warm spread of her hands across both sides of the Elezen’s face; her eyes scrutinous in such a missed way while thumbs, so softly, brush over cheeks and cheekbone.
“I see you so much right now, my love.”
(My Darling Evilie.)

Packing Light for Extreme Hiking with Richard Eitzel
Hikers often overpack, leading them to carry around unnecessary weight. Hiking with lighter backpacks allows hikers to fully experience their trail experience without feeling weighed down by extra gear.
Light packing tips and tricks can help hikers enjoy minimalist backpacking more efficiently.
Minimize your toiletries
As part of your backpacking experience, minimizing toiletries will help save space and weight - resulting in smaller backpacks for an enjoyable journey!
Begin your planning by compiling a list of all essential items needed for your hike, such as clothing and shoes. Bring as few items as possible when air travel - airlines sometimes have weight or size restrictions that limit what can be brought aboard their flights.
Richard Eitzel clarifies that you should take steps to reduce waste when packing for hiking. You can do it by using travel-size toiletries or repackaging existing products into these containers to save on packaging material, and bring along a water purifier if you require more than one bottle - this way, you'll stay hydrated without carrying around heavy bottles of water!
Pack only essentials, like a first aid kit and sleeping bag. If hiking as part of a group, divide up heavier gear such as tents and cooking equipment among all members to lighten everyone's packs - this will increase camaraderie on the trail while decreasing the chances of someone overpacking! Additionally, sharing essential items like water treatment tablets among your group members can lower individual pack weights.
Opt for lightweight cookware.
Every ounce counts when backpacking for long periods. Lightening your load can make the experience more pleasurable, prolong health benefits to the back and knees in the long term, and help cover more ground daily.
Lightweight cookware can help reduce pack weight without compromising functionality or safety. Instead of carrying around an excessively heavy pot, choose collapsible ones that fold down to fist size to save space and weight - making camp easier overall!
Richard Eitzel states that another essential piece of gear to keep in mind when backpacking is your hydration system. Water is often the heaviest item in your pack, so finding ways to reduce its weight is paramount. Do your research ahead of time on where water sources might be, and bring a lightweight filter with a small capacity that allows you to carry as little as one liter per hour between replenishments.
Opt for lightweight insulated clothing such as sleeping bags and jackets made of synthetic materials rather than down, which loses its insulation value when wet, to save space and weight while offering adequate warmth in cold conditions. In addition, choose an LED lantern that weighs less than three ounces, including batteries, as an effective light source instead of heavier flashlights.
Pack a rain poncho instead of a rain jacket.
Richard Eitzel specifies that rain jackets may be essential hiking accessories, but they can occupy valuable space in your backpack. To save space and stay dry during hiking expeditions, free up room for other essentials like sunscreen and packable sleeping bags. Consider packing a rain poncho instead - this will keep you dry while freeing up room for other essentials.
Pack clothes that match the color.
Pack light when packing light for your next hiking trip by selecting a simple color palette to help pack efficiently. Dark colors like black and navy maintain their shape longer, appearing more sophisticated. Richard Gardner Eitzel points out that packing clothes that match by color also allows you to mix and match outfits throughout your adventure, reducing overall pack size. Rolling rather than folding clothes is another simple way of saving space; invest in eco-friendly packing cubes so your clothes stay neatly organized in storage!
Be willing to make concessions in favor of an authentic minimalist experience. While high-quality binoculars might seem essential for hiking, you might barely use them during your journey. On colder days, you might opt for something simpler, such as a hoodie instead.
Richard Eitzel conveys that minimalist backpacking may not come naturally to most, but practice will make you a master at it. Once you've learned to eliminate excess weight from your pack, your hike will feel much lighter and more enjoyable! Have you ever experienced feeling burdened by a heavy backpack on an adventure hike or had the constant thought, "What if I need this?" Becoming an accomplished minimalist backpacker takes dedication and commitment but can pay dividends in improved hiking trips!
Packing light is essential for an enjoyable hiking experience. By minimizing toiletries, opting for lightweight cookware, and packing only essential items, hikers can reduce the weight of their backpacks and make their journey more comfortable. Additionally, choosing clothes that match in color and rolling them up can help save space. Becoming a minimalist backpacker takes practice and dedication, but the benefits are worth it. So, pack light and enjoy your next hiking adventure to the fullest!

Kirat Raj Singh Green Energy The Energy Alternative That Is Going Mainstream
Kirat Raj Singh Professional tips provider. Every day, many people waste tons of energy, while using many things in their home. Whether it's through simple appliances or water usage, people waste energy at home, rather than using green energy. Here is a bit of advice that will help you make use of green energy in your own home.
Reduce the price of heating water in pools, hot tubs and inside your home by using solar-powered heating systems. Heating water with natural gas or electricity is not that efficient, but with solar energy, water takes the suns energy and keeps temperatures steady. You may be eligible for tax deductions for using energy efficient upgrades.
If you are thinking about switching to solar power, do your research first. Some towns have restrictions regarding the number of collectors they allow. To bypass these limitations, think about getting your neighbors to join you and get a solar power unit that would provide power for a small group of homes.
A great tip for green energy use is to ensure that your home is properly insulated and has a high R value with the insulation. The best insulation has a higher R value. Not only will you save energy, but the additional insulation will keep out excessive noise from outside your home.
Buy a box of Ziplock quart size baggies and use these to make your own snacks. Whether you enjoy a bit of trail mix, Chex Mix, or a tasty muffin, you can use this bag and wash it when you get home to use the next day. Keep your snacks green by washing and reusing these baggies for your snacks until they are too worn.
For green energy consumption, you might want to consider an alternative source for your power needs like solar power. If you live in an area with high sunlight year round, you can install these solar panels on your roof and supply parts of your home with this free and clean energy from the sun.
Use solar hot water. By installing a solar hot water system, you can use solar power to heat the water you use for everything in your home. It will work for your showers, washing dishes and doing laundry. If you are worried about not getting enough sun, you can invest in a small, traditional water heater as well.
Kirat Raj Singh Qualified tips provider. Get an energy audit of your home. Having your home inspected by a professional is the best way to find out how you could adopt alternative sources of energy. In some cases, the sun or wind exposure is simply not high enough to justify investing in alternative sources of power.
Use rechargeable batteries. While they might cost a little bit more initially, they will save you a lot of money in the long run. Rechargeable batteries can be used hundreds of times, and they only need to be replaced about every five years. Another benefit is that you aren't constantly adding corrosive batteries to the landfill.
If there is running water on your property, you should consider investing in a good hydro-power solution. A simple mill can turn into an energy generator. Get in touch with Department of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy to find out if your stream is strong enough to produce a significant amount of power.
To help you improve the green energy efficiency of your home, consider installing solar panels in your home. Solar panels are a good source of renewable energy and can be installed at a relatively low cost. In addition, you will reduce your reliance on fossil fuels and other forms of unsustainable energy.
If offered in your location, try to switch your electricity company to a Green Power service provider. This is a great way to protect the environment and save you money. If you are unsure if you have one of these providers in your area, the Internet is great resource to find out.
Power strips are a great way not only to protect your expensive appliances but also to easily lower your energy usage. Instead of having to switch off or unplug every individual appliance when they are not in use, you can simply switch off all power strips at night or when you leave your home.
Kirat Raj Singh Expert tips provider. In a colder climate, make sure you weatherize your windows to be energy efficient. This will not only help you stay much warmer, but it will save you on energy costs. You can have this done for a fee, or you can do it yourself after purchasing the necessary products.
Invest in green technologies to ensure their proliferation. Consumers are a powerful group that can exercise that power by selective purchasing. If you want to encourage the use of renewable energy purchase products, vehicles, and electronics that utilize these technologies. If consumers insist on green technologies companies will produce items that use green technologies.
Keep passive solar energy in mind when building or remodeling a home. Passive solar homes collect sunlight through specially-designed roofs, walls, windows, and flooring. Passive solar energy ranges from having windows angled to collect southern sun exposure to homes that are heated entirely with the use of the sun.
If you have a stream or creek on your property, you may want to look into using a micro hydro-power system as an energy alternative. The flow of water through a turbine will produce energy. Many times the amount of energy is not enough to fully power a home, but will offset the cost of your electric bill each month.
Your refrigerator and freezer should not be in a warm area. Keep them away from sunlight and heating vents, since this can increase the temperature and make them run longer.
Kirat Raj Singh Best service provider. For the sake of the future of the earth, people should not be wasteful when it comes to energy. Sadly, most people are, especially in their homes. However, this can be rectified with the use of green energy. Use the advice that was provided in this article and you can avoid wasting energy in your home.
