Talk about a budget cosplay. I made my Sansa Stark cosplay for $21.50 this summer, making it one of my cheapest ones. Finding ways to make more for less has been a fun challenge for me. I dyed the fabric so I could use something cheap from the thrift store. The embellishments on the dress are just lace I cut apart, dyed, and sewed onto the dress. The cost breakdown is:

Fabric from thrift store: $1.25 Dye: $5 Pleather remnant: $3 Lace: $12

And I’ve already picked up thrift store fabric for a couple other game of thrones cosplays.

At Count.I.Con I got to meet some members of the MidWesteros (FB, Twitter, IG) and Daesu Dragon again. It was nice to talk to everyone and share different ways of craft. Hope to see everyone again in the future!

I had a dream last night...

...that I returned to bedside nursing on the pediatrics floor at the state university/inner city teaching hospital I used to work at...and I shuddered. 

God bless all the nurses! Heaven and God(dess) knows we need more of them, who are smart, well-educated, and included as an essential part of any medical/healthcare team--especially on in-patient settings. That's the hardest job and the most under-appreciated for all the expertise a nurse must learn as a productive go-between to the physician and the patient/family...

I'll always be a nurse, along with my advanced practice clinician/PAc thang nowadays. These many years in, we just hope we continue to wade through w/o jacking anything up horribly--for patient, or anyone else. I do also hope I treat my own team with respect, and appreciation. Having been deprived a good nurse and MA over the last few years, I have lovely team now, who act as my 2nd and 3rd brain. I will highly annoyed if idiot admin staff takes them away...

Anyway, it was such a weird dream. Maybe it's b/c the University affiliated medical center had a job recently advertised for a PA/NP in one of their school-based clinics, that I was pondering. But the commute into the City these days, while 1/2 the distance, would be double the time from where we live, versus what I drive out,the exact opposite direction, into ho-dunk-ville/yockleland, Midwesteros right now...Besides, I see enough of the Chicago population that the old projects keep bleeding out into feeder communities of IL anyway. One of which, my current clinic, and its associated town happens to be.  Nothing about that makes want to transition jobs which would basically be *going from the frying pan back into the fire*...

I think I was just still traumatized by the first time I saw a full-term, healthy newborn at 8 lbs, w/o multiple tubes coming out of orfices you didn't even know could exist in something that was technically 6 months old, but only weighed 7 lbs, born at 22-24 weeks...my first words were, “THEY’RE SO BIG!”--No, that's...typical. A weird dream, very weird dream. The best part was, my old nursing supervisor was asking if she should get the fries and shrimp, or the fried chicken from Harald’s Chicken Shack. Down-home Chicago...maybe Icwas just craving Harald’s Chicken Shack...
