Writeblr(?) Introduction
Hello! My name's Mikhael, I'm 20, generally summarise myself as an artist, and I've got a heap of story based peojects in different formats that I'm working on. Most of them aren't directly text-based, so I hope other writeblrs don't mind me shuffling in with my webcomic plans and what not...
About me
My favourite colour is orange and I see self-serve desert places as a personal challenge to eat enough chocolate for the next month. I really like science, both the factual side and the cool aesthetic and sci fi potential side. I'm in love with Solarpunk, which is a broad genre/movement? About looking after everyone in society, looking after the planet, and having a pro-active, optimistic approach to the future. Also the visuals are really pretty. So while almost none of my works are planned to be outright centered around Solarpunk, there'll definitely be a massive influence in the themes, designs, and world building in my projects.
I'm queer and disabled, and I have a lot of struggles with mental illness, dissociation, physical pain, I'm autistic and I've got ADHD. My disabilities have long time made it incredibly hard to work on my projects, to communicate with people, to remember things, or to see something through. So, my goals have been to work with these problems to be able to do what I want, even if I have these things making it difficult. That said, there's a big chance I'll drop off the face of the earth at some points, take forever to respond, or be a bit all over the place.
What I do
The projects I have ideas for or partly planned, or slightly started, include comics, videogames, 2D animation, a couple of novels and some short stories, and even some musical-style pieces that are basically short animated films with music and lyrics to tell a bit of a story. There might be stuff I'm forgetting. So, not everything I work on it necessarily going to come under the writeblr umbrella, but a lot of it is going to overlap.
I'll do digital art a lot, mainly painting style, but I also do drawings and pixel art sometimes! I'm building up a portfolio of a wide but organised range of styles and such, it's been a lot of fun learning new things in the process. I also do traditional art, mostly drawings and ink works. I do some painting too, mainly watercolour and some acrylic. I make small clay sculptures, too! And I'm sort of getting into small scale metal work. I can do some 2D animation, but only frame by frame stuff because I don't have software that lets me generate inbetween frames. I can play piano to a point, and I've got one song composition to my name. I'm kind of learning 3D modelling/animation and also how to make games with Unity. It's going... slow. I write fanfiction, in theory. I have this one Pokemon fanfic that's been without updates for a few years, but I'm just not in a place to work on it right now, so that's on hold. I've mainly got a bunch of little snippets and dot points for different fics apart from that.
Some of my projects
My main creative baby lately is COLOURS, which is on hiatus but getting more developed in the background. It's a webcomic about a world that's in greyscale, where the apocalypse, having been slowly encroaching as of late, is beginning to accelerate.
My main fanfic is called Like No Other, it's a pokemon fanfic. It's basically a rewrite where I focus on the plot as if it were part of one big arc with an end game instead of an ongoing, may never end series.
A novel I'm planning is called Walk With Me to Our Goodbyes; where a young man struggles with pressure, stress, loneliness, and slowly learns to make connections, use healthy coping mechanisms, and finds enjoyment in life again.
Those are my main three right now. I have a bunch more, a bunch a bunch. Tens. But they're not at the top of the priority list so I'll leave them alone for now.
Some of my OC's
Gemma Faringway- the main protagonist of COLOURS.

Puppet - I'm only in the early stages of planning for the story she's in, but I love her so much I do a lot of art with her
Tumblr media
Pyke - they're the first original character I made! They're a super silly and goofy person that likes to annoy people a bit. They're pretty straight forward in general, but they also can be really deep- they have a lot of questions about who they are- not just their identity, but their history, origins, and future. They'll be part of a story I'm still planning, but like Puppet I enjoy finding ways to work with them in the meantime.
Tumblr media
Well, that's all I can think to add to this. I'll probably post some of my short writing pieces on here tomorrow, maybe make a page for my WIPs. In the meantime, thanks for checking this out! I'm super interested in connecting with some other creatives, and I'll be def checking out the people that reblog this!
Ah, the person that's inspired me to kinda join in on the writeblr community is @pens-swords-stuff , thank you for enriching the community so much!

I did a bunch of free pieces for people so I could test out the techniques and style, and decided to call it the OC Spree. I experimented a heap with technique, shape definition, light behaviour, and colour interaction here- not to mention the different materials. Fur, hair, skin, cloth, metal, scales, and feathers. Even though, or perhaps because, they were challenging, I had an incredible amount of fun with this whole thing. I’m definitely going to be doing more of these types of pieces with my own characters in the future, and I look forward to the next OC Spree in October. I have five characters lined up, and I’m thinking of doing fullbody pixel-pieces for them Characters belong to the following DeviantArt users at the time of making this post-  the 31st of July 2018: 1. wholetthemonstersout - https://www.deviantart.com/wholetthemonstersout 2. varkarrus - https://www.deviantart.com/varkarrus 3.ppgrainbow - https://www.deviantart.com/ppgrainbow 4. This painted style evolved from a combination of my Timer Challenge pieces and watching a lot of BORODANTE’s videos, haha

New vs. Old! Not technically a timer challenge piece this time- well, not really? I took one of my two year old timer pieces and painted over it. It was incredibly satisfying and relaxing! I guess there’s just something about applying new skills to old concepts that appeals to me, you know? Concrete proof of an artist’s journey. I did this to take a break from more serious stuff, so it’s not particularly intense, but I still like it. (even if the old one was done in a car in 20 minutes so maybe not a great measure of progress, haha) Old image:

Naomi, done in 25 minutes for the Timer Challenge. After the struggles I had with doing Acton in a limited time frame, I wanted to take a shot at doing another humanoid character. Then you know I thought ‘hey let’s have weird lighting’ and this happened. Lighting from the bottom calls for a lot of thought on the different plains of the face- and holy wow the colours mess it all up even more. But I think the result’s pretty cool! I mean, to me most lighting from the bottom, if it’s coloured and soft, creates a sort of mysterious and mystic effect. Sharper white lights tend to be a bit more intimidating. But, yeah! It was kinda crazy to play around with the different values and hues that showed up in this image. It ended up looking rougher than most of my timer challenge pieces, but that just encourages me to work on my human portraits even more

Bit of an experimental piece this time! I would say I’m really new to anything like colour theory, so sometimes I’ve just got to throw some things together and see how they turn out. The cool thing about that is that you can see how to do it better once you’ve already done it wrong- learning process! Ah, I fell into the trap of getting caught up in the details here- I do like how the head turned out, though. I was just a little bit pressed for time at the end. Speaking of time, this was a 30 minute piece

Perspective and colour were two concepts I concentrated on here, and I’m pretty happy with the result. My favourite part is the painting on the main body. Character belongs to Lichcrow on deviantArt

Thing is, the timer challenge idea came from something I did a while back- it was basically the same thing with about half the skill involved. That was, what, two years ago? Possibly closer to three. It was a few days of producing quick art and not being entirely sure what I was doing with it. So, now that I’m kind of doing the same idea with a bit more thoughtfulness, I decided that it’d be cool to have a take 2 on one of my old ‘timer challenges’. Character is Snap, done originally in 20 minutes, and then redone with another 20 Here’s the old one for comparison:

I figured I’d polish the new version, as well. It’s not done yet, but it’s coming along nicely. I’ll put it up with an extended speedpaint when I can

So uh this is my pink glowy dog character named Tome. This was my second timer piece in the series, done in 25 minutes. Fun fact: I had to look up a specific type of dog for a reference, because all I knew was that the character (one I’d adopted a while ago) seemed fairly canine-based but I didn’t know which breed. Going off the curly tail and pointy ears, I ended up finding out about the finnish spitz which was a pretty good match. I played around with the lighting and colours a lot here, and had a lot of fun with the effects on the fur texture

Since I never finished Inktober on time, I’ve decided to continue doing the pieces until they’re all done. This one was done on time, but never uploaded.
The character is Negative.

Inktober number four! For this one I took the chance to draw Aster, here, and played around with a lot of patterns and lines. It’s not something I’ve done much before, but I’m happy with how it came out.  This is the end of the already finished inktober pieces I’ve got, everything after this will be posted as I complete them, when I get around to it.
