I had like 5 mental breakdances tonight and decided to make a bookmark because why? I dont even read much in the summer but it's still nice to have something to make, even if I messed up Fanny's legs, also decided to color these last minute which is why some stuff looks weird, like how Pie looks like she has eyebrows now 😭😭

So this is just a lil artist ramble because I've actually been putting in effort to improve my art lol

Anyways, so I've been doing some timed studies. My favorite so far being 30 sec pose studies

It's just so fun for my brain to do something like this in quick rapid sections without worrying about it being perfect the first time. And after my page is filled I can do notes about correction, explaining the pose, or just lil ramble.

Also this is helping get used to the fact that everything of mine is my sketchbook is not going to be perfect and it's okay to have ugly art. On that note here's more separate studies I did

I have had these thoughts bubbling away in my head for like...eighteen months or so now (it will become very obvious why shortly) but the discussion in this post has pushed me to write them down: I think societally we HUGELY underestimate how motherhood for primary caregivers, particularly first-time motherhood, can be a source of vulnerability to radicalisation.

There is obviously huge cultural variance here, but for a lot of cis women becoming primary caregiver to an infant in a capitalist Western society represents a time of immense vulnerability because in general you are:

Incredibly sleep-deprived (which has well-documented knock-on effects for your judgement, mental health, etc)

If you gave birth, recovering from a significant challenge to your physical health (even in the best-case scenario)

Isolated from your previous networks and communities of people in full-time work

Completely separated from the context of your prior career goals and achievements

Under huge amounts of stress to learn how to care for an infant (don't get me started on breastfeeding)

And on top of this, you are also be experiencing a huge amount of messaging about how all this is natural, wonderful, something you're meant to do, something you should love doing, and something that you must do for the welfare of their child. It's a huge amount of pressure and life change even when everything goes right and there's very little cultural space to express negative feelings about it.

Any group of people who offer community, support, and affirmation to cis women in this situation are going to have a really good shot at radicalising them into some very weird and dangerous headspaces and in fact we see this happen all the time - think antivaxxers and TERFs. It flies under the radar because of the hazy positive glow that associates with motherhood and babies and also because we don't take the radicalisation of women seriously I guess because they rarely shoot anybody, but...yeah. It is such a vulnerable time!

I think it's safe to say I'm at a point where I want to keep a WIP list accessible to reference, since I've gotten more requests and because I have some new stories that I'm working on. And when I get new asks & requests, I'll add them here and you can see where they're at on the list. I may not answer asks immediately but I'm absolutely going to answer 100% of them.

The trick consists of taking a LOT of souls and compressing them into one space tight enough to make them more dense and solid. After that this identity would be able to interact with the physical world just like any other thing (being tangible, is affected by light and physics etc.)

Why doesn't Puppet (or any other ghost) use this thing all the time then? Bc when it says you'd need a lot of souls it means A LOT. And that comes with a few problems. Firstly, if you were to try that in a mostly human populated area you don't have much option than to use other people's souls, and, as said above, this would tangle up who the main identity would be. If you don't want that problem, you could use less "conscious" souls but they are significantly smaller and you'd need an ever larger quantity to achieve physicality. A workaround to this is using animal souls. Even though they'd come with the same problem as human souls, the identities would be easier to separate them from each other. This one is harder to pull off in cities for example, as there would be significantly less animal ghosts if there are less animals in a given place. Finally, the biggest problem is the durability of a soul when it gets separated from its body. Since souls need the body to exist they usually don't last long when the body dies, of course, there are exceptions (like Puppet) that find a way to keep existing after dead. But to do that it needs a certain level of consciousness.

In short, if a ghost wants to keep a physical form for a given amount of time they'd need

-a LOT of souls who are kind of conscious and would mix up with the original ghost, but that would last a longer time. Or

-a LOT LOT of non-conscious souls who are significantly smaller and need to be replaced constantly, but are easier to keep around with less risk of damaging their original identity.

The second option is considered the "safest" one for most, but for it to work correctly it needs a way to obtain a lot of souls in a short time. And that is hard to find in modern civilization.

That's why natural areas with large quantities of living beings are recommended for this process. There's a big amount of non-human souls that can be obtained and replaced quickly, and that won't interfere with the ghost's identity.

So yeah, this is how Puppet can finally interact with people other than Mai and Freddy. What they would do in the camp is another story lol.
