Long Division and Dragon Jokes: A Teacher's Tale of Triumph (and Maybe a Little Chaos)
Greetings, fellow adventurers! Today's tale is one of epic proportions (well, epic for a sixth-grade math class, anyway). The quest? Conquering the fearsome beast known as long division.
Let's just say, things got a little... lively. Pencils became swords, erasers transformed into magical shields, and whispers of "this is SO HARD" echoed throughout the classroom.
But fear not, for I, your trusty teacher and Dovahkiin in disguise, had a secret weapon: dragon jokes.
"Why did the dragon ask for help with his long division?" I boomed, channeling my inner dungeon master.
A sea of confused faces stared back.
"Because he couldn't carry the digit!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands up dramatically.
A beat of silence, then... laughter. Pure, unadulterated laughter filled the room, and for a moment, the stress of long division melted away.
We used dragon jokes throughout the lesson, turning a potentially frustrating experience into something fun and engaging. We even created our own "Dragon Division Dilemma" story problem, complete with brave knights battling number-breathing dragons. ⚔️
By the end of class, not only were most students grasping the concept of long division, but they were also roaring with laughter and high-fiving each other for their newfound skills.
The moral of the story? Sometimes, a good joke can be the key to unlocking understanding and keeping your sanity in the classroom (or any other chaotic situation, for that matter).
So, the next time you're facing a challenging task, remember: a little humor can go a long way. Now, excuse me while I go slay some more math problems (and maybe write a few more dragon jokes for tomorrow's lesson).
Until next time, adventurers!

Hello, fellow adventurers!
I'm Vitty, and I'm so excited to embark on this new journey with you all! Buckle up, because we're about to delve into the wonderful (and sometimes chaotic) world of a middle school math teacher.
By day, I'm whipping up epic lessons filled with fractions, equations, and the occasional dragon-slaying metaphor (hey, gotta keep things engaging, right?). But when the school bell rings, I transform into a Dovahkiin, wielding a controller instead of a sword and exploring the vast landscapes of Skyrim. ⚔️
Speaking of fantastical worlds, I'm a total sucker for a good fantasy novel. Jane Austen's wit keeps me sharp, while J.R.R. Tolkien's epic tales whisk me away to faraway lands. ‍
And amidst all the teaching, gaming, and reading, I'm currently on a quest of my own: finding my very own dream home! Whether it's a cozy hobbit hole or a charming book nook-filled haven, I'm searching for a place to call my own, a place where the magic of everyday life unfolds.
So, grab your virtual mug of ale (or tea, if you prefer), and join me on this adventure! I'll be sharing snippets of my daily life, from classroom shenanigans to book recommendations, and of course, updates on my house hunt. Let's see where this journey takes us! ️

Reposted from @manelymath So many exciting things to share from our 7th grade preap training today. Since learning targets and success criteria are high on hatties list of effectiveness, we have been showcasing different ways of interacting with them in the classroom. One idea, shared from @thepurposedriventeacher , was to have them on the desk for students to see the entire class. So we thought, why not put them in a sheet protector and check them off with dry erase markers as we go! In one lesson we had students check them off at the end as a way to assess students self assessment of understanding. In the second lesson we checked them off as a group each time we completed a criteria. And the best thing is, sheet protectors are so cheap! . . #instructionalstrategy #teacherclarity #hattie #learningtargets #successcriteria #studentselfassessment #studentreflection #formativeassessment #iteachmath #middleschoolmath #middleschoolmathteacher #texasteacher https://www.instagram.com/p/B7Uvt_PBPt8/?igshid=cclsa835wi27

First day of school with students looked a little different this year! I have the privilege of serving as math coach for my school this year. Here’s hoping I can live up to the great examples of the math coaches who have helped me as a teacher. ❤️ It was really weird not having students to teach…but it was nice to see and interact with more students and teachers than I usually get to. We are also trying something new this year with schoolwide activities to start the year, and we have received positive responses and support from the staff. All the time, money, and effort was worth it. After 20,000+ steps today and hitting all my movement goals (which hasn’t happened in quite some time 😆), I’m ready to close out day #1 of year 18! #middleschoolmathteacher #imstillateacher #middleschoolmathcoach #ilovemyschool https://www.instagram.com/p/ChBmtneOvFP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
