Okay (Part 4)
MULTICHAPTERED VAMPIRE AU BASED LIGHTLY OFF OF PLACENTAANDLLAMA’s FIC COMING OF AGE (WITH PERMISSION)
TW: blood, gore, angst? kinda? Phil's pretty dominant of Dan... just read it bc the bit of BAMF!Phil makes it so it'll be good lol also Dan's such a bottom in this oml (no smut tho srry)
WC: 12k for the entire fic
Dan stood awkwardly in the small clearing behind the old run down looking building Phil called 'The Nest', also known as the place Phil's clan lived in. Dan wasn't all into the all black outfit Phil had forced him into earlier, and he was pretty uneasy about being out in the middle of the night with the gibbous moon glowering over them intensely.
"Ready?" Phil asked, standing on the other side of the clearing from Dan, tall dark silhouette only adding to Dan's unease.
"Not particularly," Dan whimpered, barely loud enough for Phil to hear, even with his sharp senses.
"Good enough for me," Phil replied. Dan could just hear the smirk in his voice, causing him to stiffen. Before he could express his concerns however, Phil charged him, giving him barely enough time to duck out of the way, landing on the ground with a soft thud. He groaned and sat up to look at Phil.
"What the hell was that?" Dan screamed at the vampire. Phil chuckled lightly and a second later was towering over Dan.
"Training," Phil replied simply. Dan huffed, standing up. He began to brush himself off, not paying any attention to Phil. In the blink of an eye he lay on the ground, Phil on top of him, pinning him by the shoulders. "Rule number one, never take your eyes off of your opponent," Dan half frowned at Phil but wasn't really listening to the older in the slightest. His eyes were so bright and gleamed with excitement. How could Dan ever look away from that? It took him a few minutes too long, but Dan finally took his eyes off of Phil long enough to blink and compose a sentence in his scattered mind, more or less.
"I-um, yeah," Dan uttered, voice too shaky for comfort. Phil screwed up his face as he searched Dan's, trying to figure out what seemed to be troubling the boy. He didn't find it.
"What's that matter?" Phil blurted. He didn't seem to get why Dan was acting so... strange. Hell, even Dan didn't understand why. It just happened.
"I, um, get off of me?" Dan rasped, coughing a little because when he fell it disturbed some dust that entered the boy's lungs. Phil's blue eyes bore into Dan, as if demanding the answer to his question. The question Dan couldn't answer, even if he wanted to. The answer floated around him, flying just out of his reach as he lunged for it. Dan vaguely recalled a Greek myth or Bible story he'd read God knew how long ago where someone was being punished by forever starving and having food and water just out of reach that seemed to fit his situation quite well.
"Okay," Phil replied, seeming unconvinced by Dan's halfhearted attempt at dodging his question. Still, he pushed himself off of Dan and wiped his palms off on his dark and already quite dusty jeans. He waited for Dan to steady himself before speaking. "Things that want you dead wont let you off so easily," Phil said in a monotone voice lacking any emotions. Not a trace of concern could be detected.
"I wouldn't call tackling me to the ground with no explanation being let off easily," Dan retorted bitterly. Dan's mind took a moment to absorb the information he had just low key been tossed. Things that want him dead? Just how dangerous was this situation? He didn't know how to approach the topic subtlety so he just blurted out his concerns. "Wait, why am I supposed to know how to fight? Am I going to be attacked a lot?"
Phil let out a small sigh and gave the human a small crooked smile. "I figured you'd ask that, but I hoped you wouldn't, heh," He said nervously, scratching at the back of his neck.
"Well I asked so you should answer," Dan begged, voice more needy than he anticipated. He pushed his bottom lip in between his teeth before remembering the negative reaction Phil had the firsts time so he slip it out. Phil just shook his head slightly.
"I'm sorry, but at least I'm preparing you, or at least I'm trying," Phil answered weakly. Dan huffed but Phil seemed to ignore it, continuing on with the lesson. "Now, I want you to attack me now,"
"What?" Dan gasped. He couldn't do that! Phil was practically immortal meanwhile Dan couldn't even hurt a fly, even when it was really bugging him.
"You heard me, just do it," Phil insisted, spreading his arms and taking a step back. "What? You scared?" Phil mocked.
"No, I just-fine, whatever," Dan shot back. Dan had to decide rather to actually go through with picking a fight he knew he couldn't win or looking cowardly. He reminded himself it was just training and decided to take the plunge. He circled Phil, movements sloppy and unplanned. Phil frowned slightly but ended up keeping his mouth shut as he watched Dan. Suddenly Dan lunged his fist in Phil's directed, but he hesitated slightly which allowed Phil to just grin before catching Dan's hand in his own. Dan's eyes widened in shock.
"Don't do that," Phil advised. "Because I can do this," Phil continued as he pulled Dan forward before spinning him around and pinning his arm behind his back and elbowing him sharply in the back, causing Dan to weaken enough for Phil to push him to the ground. He crashed to the ground on his stomach and let out a muffled 'oof!'.
"Harsh," Dan breathed, rolling onto his back and propping himself on his elbows to squint up at Phil, who still had a cheeky smile on his face.
"You could of done better," Phil said, reaching out a hand to help Dan up. "Let's try again,"
"What?" Dan gasped, allowing Phil's help. "No way," Phil raised an eyebrow at Dan.
"It wasn't a suggestion," Phil replied harshly. Dan rolled his eyes before nodding, brushing himself off briefly.
"Of course," He muttered. He recalled being in math class and wondering when he'd ever use finding the slope of a line, but now, he wished for that feeling as he knew what he was currently learning would be put to use fairly soon.
Dan tried again, following Phil's advice to the best of his ability, then again when Phil said it wasn't good enough, and again, and again... Eventually Dan was just too tired to fight, even holding himself upright was proving to be a bit of a challenge. His body was coated in a layer of sweat and his knees shook as he leaned on them to catch his breath. He used to say he was exhausted, but never, in his privileged life had he truly known the meaning of the world. Until that first day of training. Still, Dan insisted he was fine, even though he practiced punches were beginning be more messy and forced. Phil didn't stop Dan though, he wanted to see how far the young man would push himself, see how long it would take until he would break.
"You sure you're good?" Phil asked for the hundredth time that night to a sleepy Dan sprawled out under him. "You look tired," Dan shook his head groggily, body shaking with a small yawn. Phil shook his head before scooping Dan up and helping him onto his feet.
"What?" Dan questioned weakly.
"Yeah, its beddy bye time for you, Danny," Phil sighed. "The suns almost up and we've been at it for hours,"
"Don't... call me... Danny," Dan said, pausing n between his words as if it was hard to speak so many words at once.
"Okay, whatever," Phil rolled his eyes and crossed his arms at Dan who was having trouble standing upright.
"Les go," Dan slurred, it was almost like he was intoxicated, only he was tired. Phil chuckled softly before standing next to Dan and wrapping an arm around the boy's waist, who was too tired to object. In fact, Dan even laid his head on Phil's shoulder as they walked to The Nest and then up to their shared room, avoiding all of the other members of the clan somehow.
When they entered their room Phil was sure to lock the door and slip the key into his pocket so Dan wouldn't escape. Meanwhile, Dan trudged to the bed before flopping down on his stomach and burying his face into the pillow. Phil rolled his eyes at Dan's melodramatic behavior, which seemed like the best way to describe the boy at this point. Melodramatic. He noted to himself how much dirt just got everywhere but decided to let it slide as Dan was so tired. Soon Dan's soft snores filled the room and Phil quietly draped a soft blanket over Dan's sleeping form before crawling in next to him.
"Goodnight, Dan," Phil whispered to the boy, knowing he couldn't hear him before drifting off into a dreamless slumber himself.
