Oh, there are some fun self-owns in there, including a conservative who is thankful they never had children. You know what? Me too! Keep it up!

Part of me just wants to take out a nano-violin for these poor conservatives being abused by other conservatives, but my shoulder angel won't stop reminding me this doesn't help anyone. Bullying conservatives into performing "conservative" better and pretending to be more monolithic in public just makes the political situation worse for everyone.

Even I'm not immune to altering my behaviour to fit a space, I'm just shit at it. Politically, I tend to be honest, which in this context just means I follow through on what I say. This means that Democrats don't care about my vote (and since Canada is dragging its feet on that residency, I can still only vote in the States). I can't be relied upon, I have demands. Some of the things I want might be unpopular. They covet lockstep, straight-ticket lemmings, and they know they will not find those by moving left. But shutting up about it to preserve group cohesion (as, even now, I still do) just makes it that much easier to move right. And they do. Boy, do they.

The same goes for "moderate and progressive conservatives" which is something I've never HEARD of back where I come from. That's not even, like, a theoretical construct, y'all. Conservatives back home wouldn't dare praise the police this way, it would never even occur to them. And if some of 'em have the hots for law and order, even when it means arresting homophobes, neither I nor their constituents will ever hear it. That means that, politically, "I like cops AND I don't mind when they arrest shrieking bigots" doesn't exist, at least, not on the right. We're never gonna see how many conservatives agree with it if no conservative with a platform ever says it. All the momentum pushes them rightwards.

Some words deserve a smackdown, and some platforms require you to kludge moderation by screaming in unison and making it unpleasant for bad people. (It's good for clicks, they're not gonna stop doing that.) But, for those out there who would prefer a little movement towards the left, maybe don't go DEFCON 1 on people dissenting from the left. You're smarter than a conservative... right?

It was deleted after The Canadian Press sent Ferreri questions about the post, which followed a visit to the Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre (KSAC) in Peterborough, Ont. In a statement issued today, Ferreri said her post was "inartfully worded."
