Okay, finished season two of The Magnus Archives.

In conclusion, Michael Spiral is hilarious, and I think they'd be fun to watch bad B movies with.

The Magnus Archives: Michael, Helen, and the Spiral

Having finished The Magnus Archives, I'm thinking that Michael and Helen have to be the Spiral's wants/inclinations/nature filtered through the human framework that Michael and Helen provide.

As Michael, the Spiral rejects personhood, but it requires Michael to be able to comprehend what personhood means. As Helen, the Spiral feels guilt for the first time. A labyrinth doesn't feel guilty because people get lost in it! But Helen does.

Simon Fairchild compares being an Avatar to being deaf and mute in a world where everyone is deaf and mute but then hearing music. The Spiral inhabiting humans has got to be just as transcendent! It would be like if a human could suddenly comprehend the pheromones of ants!

Seriously, imagine suddenly existing in the world of ants and realizing for the first time that it is this whole complex world with rules and etiquette and the idea that it's possible to do being an ant badly. And the other ants have opinions and expect you to heed them.

That's what Michael Spiral and Helen Distortion are experiencing in The Magnus Archives.
