Thoughts on 2021 Favorites
I mentioned last year that I was sad to see the potential downfall of a favorite hobby: watching films at movie theaters. If you had told me Spider-Man was going to save, if only short-term, the industry I would have laughed. Welp.
TV Shows 1. What We Do in the Shadows - Fiiinally marathoned this series. Was not disappointed! Just as silly and fun as the film. Can't wait for the fourth season!
Animation 1. Arcane - I need to dig more into the backstory of how this series came to be, but from a casual's point-of-view it's a fantastic series. Gorgeous animation and great character interaction. 2. Centaurworld - So glad it got a proper ending. A definite favorite this year. 3. Pacific Rim: The Black - This was actually pretty decent! Not too enthused with the animation, but it gets the lore of the PacRim universe right.   4. Amphibia - I just love this series so much. Every season thus far has been solid. 5. Infinity Train - Loved the fourth book! As much as I would like to see more from this series, I think it ended on a high note. 6. Carmen Sandiego - This gets a mention because the show decided it cared about my faves and gave them a proper relationship arc conclusion. I just. Love it when my favorite unpopular ship wins lol. 7. Hilda and the Mountain King - This was my favorite animated feature this year. Would have been an incredible finale, but we're getting another season haha. 8. Encanto - Suuch a pretty movie; I just loved how bright and colorful the whole thing looked. At least Disney’s animated films are still good. 9. Luca - This was so cute!! Pixar needs to do more of these chill, kind of Miyazaki-esque type of movies.
Video Games 1. Nier Automata - I had been meaning to play this but was a little hesitant on spending money on it? Turns out it's the kind of gameplay that I like and I love the ridiculous story. It pulls off being thoughtful and philosophical without feeling pompous and condescending - also a plus. On that subject: watch Jesse Cox and Michael Santell's vids on Automata and Replicant. They're spoiler-heavy but really well done imo. They do a good job at explaining all the story beats, characters and gameplay. I will probably never get over that "human cities" bit they have in their Replicant video. 2. Psychonauts 2 - Have not been able to get very far in this one yet, but what I’ve played I’ve loved. Hope it turns out to be as fun as the first one (I have avoided spoilers so far lol).
Films 1. The Kid Detective - Looved this. Def one of my favorite mystery gerne films of recent memory. The ending GOT ME GOOD. 2. Nightmare Alley - If you couldn't tell, GDT is kind of my favorite. 3. Last Night in Soho - Edgar Wright please do more horror u_u. Also, I can't seem to discuss this film without bursting into song. 4. The French Dispatch - Wes Anderson has blessed us with yet another brilliant/beautiful movie. I'm always on such an inspiration high after watching any of his films. 5. Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar - It’s so stupid you guys and I don't caaaaare I loved it so much. New comfort movie. 6. Dune - Hype was real and this movie was gorgeous.
Honorable Mentions 1. Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs 2. The Witcher, season 2
Things I’m Looking Forward to in 2022 1. Uh 2. ???? 3. Profit
Some Creative & General Goals for 2022 1. Now that I own a guitar I want to get better at playing it!! 2. Post some art again.

Results for Night One of King of Trios ‘19 under the cut.
Match #1: King of Trios Qualifier #1 The VeloCities vs. The Crucible Jewels (gotta differentiate them somehow) With Lance Steel and Princess Kimberlee in matching gear, the Jewels of the Crucible came to fight. They worked over Jude London of the VeloCities team the entire match, focusing specifically on his midsection, then Steel submitted him with a Boston Crab. I’d expect any of the VeloCities to make an appearance in the RdV or the tag gauntlet. WINNERS: The Crucible Jewels Match #2: King of Trios Qualifier #2 Karate Kat Xtreme vs. The Nations Unfortunately for “the illegitimate son of Truckasaurus”, Lucas Calhoun, his team did not escape the opening round. Stray Kat was isolated and in peril for the entire match, eventually getting pinned after a triple powerbomb. Calhoun and Kat in the tag gauntlet? WINNERS: The Nations Match #3: King of Trios Qualifier #3 The Legion of Rot vs. The Carnies Despite getting some new gear and what might be new entrance music for the occasion, the Legion of Rot continue to go downhill. In what might be the upset of the tournament, Tripp Cassidy pinned Hallowicked to send the Legion packing. To the RdV and tag gauntlet with you! WINNERS: The Carnies Match #4: King of Trios Qualifier #4 The Hatfields/McCoys vs. The Creatures of the Deep Lots of stuff happening in this one! Boomer came out first, but Dasher and Molly took their sweet time and were fashionably late to the party. Dasher actually patted Boomer on the back before heading to the ring (with Boomer tensing up, I’m not surprised he expected to be hit). Hermit Crab did not compete, as he was injured, but came out to support his team. Big cast on his right arm. Cajun Crawdad withdrew from RdV to take his place. Oceanea demanded that she ride to the ring on Merlok’s shoulders. Dasher and Boomer fought over who was going to start, with Dasher yelling at Boomer to get out and Boomer settling things by pushing his dad into the corner and starting the match. They continued to fight during the match, with Dasher swiping a tag from Boomer several times. Molly, surprisingly, looked to be attempting to play peacemaker, as she rolled Dasher out of the ring at one point, possibly to make sure no hurt feelings would happen over a tag. Crawdad paid tribute to his injured tag partner with the Crab Walk, but missed. He later went coast 2 coast on the apron (and presumably did not miss because ouch). The Creatures almost had it won as Oceanea and Merlok hit the Tidal Wave on Molly, but Boomer saved her from getting pinned before catching Merlok with a surprise Code Red for the win. Yet more arguing between father and son then occurred before Dasher bailed. Boomer then checked on Molly and helped her out of the ring. Meanwhile, Oceanea raged at her team for the loss, hitting Hermit Crab. Merlok came to Crab’s defense, shoving her down and bailing. Crawdad attempted to help her up, but got screamed at to leave, and Crab indicated that he’d had enough of her crap before leaving the ring and punctuating his exit atop the ramp with “HERMIT CRAB HATES YOU!” Oceanea was left in the ring alone, then left by herself. The fallout of this will be interesting indeed. WINNERS: The Hatfields/McCoys INTERMISSION Match #5: King of Trios Qualifier #5 The Colony vs. The Quack Attack w/Coach Mikey Before the match, Coach Mikey presented Mike Quackenbush with his very own Ugly Ducklings mask. Hooray for team unity. Quack and Fire Ant kept a good chunk of the match to themselves by trading holds and not allowing tags. Green Ant finally got in, and the Ducklings begged for and received a tag as well. Fire kicked out of several combo moves (including a Quackendriver) before scoring a flash pin on one of the Ducklings to end the match. Everyone shook hands afterward. WINNERS: The Colony Match #6: King of Trios Qualifier #6 Team Queens vs. The Crucible Fighters At one point, the Fighters of the Crucible attempted to re-break Willow Nightingale’s neck and put her out of action again, but they were prevented from doing so. Matt Makowski submitted Solo with an armbar, sending his team to the next round. WINNERS: The Crucible Fighters Match #7: King of Trios Qualifier #7 F.I.S.T. vs. The Embassy As my source had to leave just as this match started, I don’t have much in the way of anything to go on. F.I.S.T. got toilet paper thrown at them instead of streamers, apparently Tony Deppen kept some. F.I.S.T. won. (Michael D. Ondrick on Facebook checked in after I posted the original results to fill in the blanks: “fist and the embassy did some extended comedy sequences with sal and icarus trying to low-blow each other, catching each other's legs, then agreeing to put the legs down only to try another kick. deppen and rave did the same thing with punches. who'd have thought sal rinauro would be the embassy's workhorse in the year of our lord 2019?”) WINNERS: F.I.S.T. Match #8: MAIN EVENT, King of Trios Qualifier #8 MDK vs. Team Pump Petey Williams and Thomas Santell apparently had a bit of a staredown as each removed their glasses, if I’m reading the screenshot right. (Michael once again to explain context: “williams and santell traded sunglasses for glasses. petey couldn't see with the glasses on and attempted to lock up with the cameraman on the apron.”) Scott Steiner apparently either forgot about or ignored the Lucha tag rules, as he threw Santell out of the ring and all around the building. Steiner eventually submitted Santell with the Steiner Recliner, which apparently got quite a lot of boos. (Everyone expected Team Pump to go out in the opening round, which might explain some of those boos. Others were for Steiner...well, being Steiner. You’d think CHIKARA would’ve learned from inviting Nick Gage earlier this year. Funny enough, Gage was on his best behavior!) WINNERS: Team Pump

Lido Finally Drops Long-Awaited Sophomore Project, “PEDER”
When Lido dropped his debut album, Everything, in 2016, it made #3 on our Top 10 Albums of the year. It was brutally raw and honest and its production and style blew us away with every listen. Now, four years later, he’s back with his sophomore album, PEDER.
Thematically and sonically, PEDER is much softer than Everything. There are no songs like “Crazy” or “Citi Bike,” and more songs like “You Lost Your Keys” and “Angel.” In that regard, it almost feels like a muted continuation from the end of his previous album, a comfortableness that comes through.
At the time that Lido wrote his first album, he was going through a tumultuous breakup with Halsey, which helped influence her own album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom that following year. As mentioned previously, Everything was raw and you could feel the emotion in every note and rough-around-the-edges synth.
In start contrast, PEDER is cozy. It’s warm and relaxing. It’s half singer/songwriter and half inspired producer, a state that Lido is very comfortable owning and living in. The climax of the album, “University,” a stunning and massive collaboration with Jojo, Brandon Arreaga, Col3trane, and Santell, is, like many of Lido’s constructions, a culmination of all the feelings from the previous tracks. Spiritually, it is “Citi Bike” but practically it is “Falling Down.”
It’s often said that the greatest music is created during times of great personal struggle, and in that regard, Everything is a case study. PEDER is beautiful in its own right, but time will tell if it holds up to the legacy of his debut album.
PEDER will be accompanied by a children’s book titled “The Boy On The Spaceship,” which was written by Lido and coincides with the album concept. Marking Lido’s debut as an author and set for a release later this fall, the book unravels a story of a little boy named Peder (Lido’s birth name), drifting in space on a lonely vessel. Peder accidentally stumbles upon a pirate radio station and hears music for the first time. He falls in love and tries to create his own music with the tools available to him on his spaceship. PEDER was born. The boy’s journey reflects Lido’s own experiences growing up in the Norwegian wilderness and gradually discovering the world outside his bubble.

Here's an interesting question. If you had to pick voice actors for Nelson, Jay, Clove and Samson, who would you pick?
((Ooooh....hmmm....
I was a fan of Super Couch Fighters, so Brett Bayone for Clove while Michael Santell for Nelson
Travis Willingham for Jay
and Samson played by Khary Payton))

tell you about the ‘roast’ culture Yaqeen and I  cultivated to keep morale up
Ok let see. Trying to to tick some of these bullet points off the list. Lets do STK.
I took a five month working vacation when I went to Alaska. I told STK I was leaving and that I would return in October. They were ok with it. And of course my boy Yaqeen kept my memory alive while I was gone.
(Remind me to tell you about the ‘roast’ culture we cultivated to keep morale up. I’ll add it to the list)
So yeah, STK, its a bit surreal being back in the building. More so about a month ago when I first came back. now its like I never left. Like Alaska was a dream. Like when Alaska was a nightmare after Xxxxxx left.
(Remind me to tell you about Xxxxxx and why she left)
