Een beetje dom

Als je een ouder dier in huis krijgt moet je altijd maar afwachten in hoeverre de opvoeding en socialisering is gelukt bij vorige eigenaren. Ze hebben nu eenmaal geen gebruiksaanwijzing op de rug vastgepind meegekregen. Bij onze 8 jarige kat Garfield valt dit alleszins mee: Hij is zindelijk tot in het extreme, klauwt niet, klimt niet, sloopt niet, en doet nooit iets ongevraagd. Als hij niet zeker is of zijn gedrag getolereerd wordt in dit huishouden, doet hij het voor je neus, en wacht je reactie af: wil je het niet, OK, dan weet ik dat, doen we niet meer, deal.

Best geweldig, hij doet zijn uiterste best  om een voorbeeldige huisgenoot te zijn en dat is hij ook op deze manier. Grappig is dat hij alles wat hij wil gaan doen luidkeels aankondigt, hij heeft voor al zijn plannen miauwtjes, in alle toonaarden. Ook meldt hij zich weer op dezelfde manier als hij iets gedaan heeft. Is de kattenbak vies: dat weten wij direct, geen twijfel mogelijk. Alleen sommige meldingen zijn iets minder handig voor hem persoonlijk.

Gaat hij ‘stiekem’ naar boven om in een bed te kruipen, ja, als je het meldt is het niet stiekem, Garfie. Zit je op het aanrecht, dan zeg je dat van te voren, dus restjes opeten, daar komt het nooit van. En luidkeels je plannen melden om je grote liefde, het stuk kaas uit de koelkast, te gaan roven…. tja, jongen, wat moet ik hier nu van zeggen… Hoe aandoenlijk je gedrag ook is, zo kom je nooit bij die kaas die je zo graag wilt. Je bent toch, ondanks je bewonderenswaardige aanpassingsvermogen, een beetje dom.

Garfield is afkomstig uit Dierenasiel Bommelerwaard, waar nog veel meer leuke, lieve dieren wachten op een nieuwe baas!

Medical How many surgeries have you had?

Two, one of them was major.

Do you have a doctor that you see regularly?

Yeah, a neurologist and the doctor who takes care of my rehabilitation.

Of course I do, one from work and one private. Without it, my medical costs would overpower me.

What are some medical issues you're currently dealing with?

Rather lifelong, but oh well. Epilepsy and some physical disability.

Why did you last take pain medication?

I don’t take pain medication. Most of it would make the medication I have to take daily less effective. I only do it after consulting it with my doctor so it’s safe for me.

Yeah, I have OCD and generalised anxiety disorder, and also my latest medical form says I show symptoms of depression. I’m not sure if it counts, but I’ve been diagnosed with ASD at some point in my life.

I don’t at the moment, but I used to.

Two months ago.

Not what, but who :P one certain guy. And I tend to overthink everything.

Well, I’m physically disabled.

I used to play basketball in a team when I was a teenager, but later my health issues have forced me to stop. I miss it very much, though.

We have to sort our trash that goes to recycling later, if that counts. The government demands it.

No, we have a diesel. All because diesel used to be cheaper than petrol back in time. And way cheaper than electric, not everyone can afford it.

Of course? We have wind turbines all over the country, and it’s not uncommon to see houses with solar panels installed on the roof.

1. Wat is je favoriete deel van je gezicht? Ik vind mijn gezicht niet altijd even tof, maar misschien mijn lach?

4. Hoe vul jij je gewoonlijke maandag op? Deze maand vooral met studeren! En anders heb ik meestal ook wel les op maandagen!

5. Ben je nu een boek aan het lezen? Zo ja, het welke? Ik ben 2 boeken aan het lezen nu! ‘The Body Keeps The Score’ en ‘Notes on a Nervous Planet’! En ook nog een audiobook van Matt Haig ‘Father Christmas and me’, daar kan ik wat makkelijker mee in slaap vallen! :)
