How do you do it?
Do you have plot armor?
in a sense, yeah, i have a lot of weird life circumstances that i haven't really seen other people talk about very often, and i have the decision making capabilities of a trailer park boys character, so my whole life has just been about trying to stack as many advantages as i can to balance out the setbacks.
very short answer: shoplift and apply for government assistance whenever possible (AND NEVER SAY YOU SHARE YOUR FOOD/EAT WITH OTHER PEOPLE OR THEY WILL DENY YOU FOOD STAMPS, also hrt is often covered by medicaid)
further context under cut, because i'm a lil self conscious to talk about myself in depth lol
both severely neglected by and obsessed over by my mom, grew up in unpleasant environment due to hoarding>supremely sensitive and dissociative, very attuned to other peoples' feelings (sometimes)
left in front of tv and books and unrestricted internet use (when i had access to these things)>get really into art and language and develop a strong mental catalogue of concepts and preferences
dropped out of hs and became a shut in>focus all my energy on writing fanfic/drawing fanart and eventually meet osman thru the hotline miami fandom
can only connect with crazy people>form bond so intensely with osman that he flees from his abusive family to live with me and my mom after knowing me for less than a year, we become inseparable and help each other learn how badly we were fucked up by our childhoods/societal lack of support for abuse victims
no ged so i have to take manual labor jobs to get us away from my mom>bodily dissociation and crazy work ethic make me a fairly competent worker drone
my mom actively demands i buy her shit and fucks up my credit score and fucked up my general life prospects>other family feels bad and helps us out in emergencies (not anymore now that mom has taken so much)
get injured a bunch/be malnourished and dehydrated/develop illnesses>have to take health seriously and work thru my dissociation so i can take care of myself because i have no other option
develop weed dependency to deal with issues>smoking weed is very cool
work shit jobs with disenfranchised people>gain a sense of dignity and respect for everyone at the bottom of the food chain, stop being self deprecating and work on liking myself because the world already looks down on me and treats me like an idiot so i'm not gonna just agree
shitty attitude towards myself makes me have a shitty attitude in my relationship, i struggle with being osman's caretaker so so badly and lose YEARS to being severely miserable and trying to shoulder my problems on my own>osman telling me directly how badly i was doing forces me to start dismantling my internal self harm mechanisms and i am able to be in the moment and take things as they are for like the first time ever this year
have no idea where i'm going in life>go all over and learn the hard way how i'm supposed to act

I need hrt MTF lake City Florida please thank you so much
Hello and thank you for reaching out! Here are some recommendations from the lovely community in our discord server, although they are mostly located more near Jacksonville. Please let me know if these don't work for you - and if anyone else is aware of nearer locations to Lake City then please feel free to reblog and provide info! Otherwise (in no particular order): Reza Health (Jacksonville) Folx Health - would need to travel once to sign consent forms in Tampa, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, or Aventura (between Fort Lauderdale and Miami), but otherwise could do virtually. Mixed reviews on services. Planned Parenthood (Gainesville) - call to see if they're accepting new HRT patients, might be easier to get in if you're switching providers and not starting new. Jason Largen, MD at St. Vincent's Riverside (Jacksonville) - call ahead to check open availability. Comes highly recommended but limited schedule for HRT patients & may not have open slots.

I don't know if this is in your purview, but in a novel I'm working on, the main character - the one who cracked my egg in realization, in fact - is a gay trans man who started transitioning at 17 in 2005, in south florida, just north of miami. i figure he started socially transitioning between 16-17 (he didn't have a lot of friends in high school) and medically transitioning at 18 while going to college, with the support of his lesbian mom and her transbian friend, his "aunt". what advice or input would you give me on what it was like to be in early transmasc transition in the mid-2000s? i've had a surprisingly hard time over the last few years finding out what personal experience of that was like. thank you for sending out the transsignal on this!
Your novel sounds fantastic and I’d love to read it someday! I’ll preface this post by saying that it includes brief descriptions of experiences with transphobia.
I first came out in Georgia, but began HRT in Florida, and even in the 2010s, it was a process. In order to start HRT, you were “required” to have lived as your “chosen sex” for a full year, as well as have a signed letter from a licensed therapist that indicated you had been in therapy for at least 1 year as well, and had been diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder. So your character socially transitioning from age 16-17 before getting approval to start HRT sounds accurate!
My insurance, of course, did not cover hormone therapy (or any kind of transition-related health care) and my appointments at Planned Parenthood were awkward at best, with staff asking tons of invasive questions out of fascination while continuing to misgender me despite my corrections. They weren’t necessarily hostile, but definitely bewildered at the idea of it. When I went to CVS to pick up my prescription for the first time, I was refused, and told that “we don’t serve your kind here.” I had to switch pharmacies to get my HRT filled. I was loudly and purposely outed by doctors, pharmacists, my dentist, and at a job interview. I was harassed repeatedly while out walking, at the laundromat, in other public spaces. I was threatened enough at my previous job that I had to quit.
I did not know any trans people in high school (I graduated in 2005). Looking back, I had a friend who fit the description, but was never out as trans. We likely didn't have the language to describe what it was at the time, especially since what little trans rep that existed in media was, well, very caricatured, and not typically positive.
Finding resources during that time was tricky too! In the mid-2000s, Tumblr didn’t exist - my first resources were Susans.org (a trans support forum and web site that’s been running since 1995) and Livejournal. I was able to safely connect with people in those spaces, and it was mostly through Susans.org that I found the resources I needed to start transitioning. If your character was well-off enough to have Internet access in the mid-2000s, this is what I’d recommend! Libraries were a resource as well for local communities, both for access to these emerging online spaces, and also for the few books on the subject which were invaluable resources during a time when info was scarce.
I hope this is useful! Feel free to reach out if you have other specific questions you're looking to answer!

I am genuinely and utterly broken in the brain by people like that insufferable meme-poster up there.
Yeah, buddy, it really fucking sucks that you can't just like, show up once every 2-4 years and pull a lever and someone else like magically fucking fixes everything for you. It sucks that you might have to like... actually do more things.
I keep saying, over and over, that actually making things better in a situation like the one we're in right now is not gonna come about through glorious revolution where only bad people die and definitely only theoretical people who are Over There somewhere, definitely not anybody you really know. I keep saying, like... the Reign of Terror, percentage-wise, on the US population?
Just... the greater Miami metro area. Gone. All of it. Or Minneapolis. Just the entire fucking city. Blood, the stink of death, piles of fucking corpses.
And yeah, if we get to the point of fucking armed uprising, I got no illusions about what's happen next or what's likely to happen to me, but what's actually more likely to happen way before that is that shit will get slowly worse and slowly worse and old people will keep starving to death or freezing to death alone in their homes and kids will keep dying from preventable diseases and unhoused people will die more and more from heat stroke and people will get sicker and be hungrier and they'll lose teeth and bone density from poor nutrition and they'll lose their homes and their family units will become frayed and they'll lose necessary treatments and this woman will die from an untreated ectopic pregnancy and that dude will die because he couldn't afford his insulin and this older trans person will die bc losing their HRT fucked up their body and made their diabetes worse.
And you can't actually fix any of that fucking shit with a smarmy picture of partisans, and you really can't fix it with the guns that got photoshopped out, though I guess sometimes it's nice to think you could. And you can't fix it just by voting, either.
Voting is the equivalent of carrying Narcan around in your backpack. It doesn't fix the problem. It reduces harm. It doesn't reduce harm appreciably unless a fucking lot of people do it, and do it consistently. You are gonna have to do more than just carry around Narcan if you want to address the problem of people dying on the street from fentanyl overdoses.
And if you carry the Narcan around, you know what? People are still gonna fucking die in the meantime, and shit will be bad, and that sucks.
But more people will fucking die if you don't.
Look, at this point, either you believe that voting is valid harm reduction, or you don't. We'll keep doing our best to convince y'all. But fucking stop sniffing your own farts about some glorious revolutionary cosplay.
It's embarrassing. You might as well be a 9 year old arguing that you don't have to clean your room because Superman is going to do it for you.
No he won't. Clean your fucking room.
why do you guys talk like you think not voting means no one gets elected

HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY FOR MEN & WOMEN
WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACMENT THERAPY?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment that involves taking hormones to supplement the body's natural hormone production. It is often used to treat menopausal symptoms in women, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness, as well as to prevent osteoporosis. HRT can also be used to treat men with low testosterone levels, a condition known as hypogonadism.
There are several different types of HRT, including estrogen-only therapy, progestogen-only therapy, and combined estrogen and progestogen therapy. Estrogen-only therapy is typically prescribed to women who have had a hysterectomy, while combined therapy is typically prescribed to women who still have their uterus.
HRT can be administered in several different forms, including pills, patches, gels, and creams. The specific type of hormone replacement therapy and the dosage will depend on the individual's needs and medical history.
It is important to note that HRT can have potential risks and side effects, and it is not suitable for everyone. It is important to discuss the potential benefits and risks with a healthcare provider before starting HRT.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY FOR MEN AND WOMEN?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can have several potential benefits, depending on the specific type of hormone therapy and the individual's medical needs. Some potential benefits of HRT include:
Relief of menopausal symptoms: HRT can help alleviate common menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.
Osteoporosis prevention: Estrogen therapy can help prevent bone loss and reduce the risk of osteoporosis, a condition that causes bones to become weak and brittle.
Cardiovascular benefits: Some research suggests that estrogen therapy may have protective effects on the heart and blood vessels, although more research is needed to confirm this.
Improved mood: HRT may help improve mood and cognitive function in some women experiencing menopausal symptoms.
Improved sleep: HRT may help improve sleep patterns in some women experiencing menopausal symptoms.
It is important to note that the potential benefits of HRT vary from person to person and depend on the specific type and dosage of hormone therapy. It is important to discuss the potential benefits and risks with a healthcare provider before starting HRT.
WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES OF BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can have several potential risks and side effects, depending on the specific type of hormone therapy and the individual's medical needs. Some potential risks and side effects of HRT include:
Increased risk of blood clots: HRT can increase the risk of blood clots, which can cause serious complications such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
Increased risk of stroke: Some studies have found that HRT may increase the risk of stroke, particularly in women who smoke or have a history of stroke or heart attack.
Increased risk of breast cancer: Some studies have found that HRT may increase the risk of breast cancer, particularly in women who use combined estrogen and progestogen therapy.
Increased risk of uterine cancer: HRT may increase the risk of uterine cancer in women who use combined estrogen and progestogen therapy.
Increased risk of gallbladder disease: HRT may increase the risk of gallbladder disease in some women.
It is important to note that the potential risks and side effects of HRT vary from person to person and depend on the specific type and dosage of hormone therapy. It is important to discuss the potential benefits and risks with a healthcare provider before starting HRT.
