When I teach “Mi Chamocha” to my Hebrew students, I explain the context of the Ge’ulah, the last section of the Shema, where we take a moment to recall the Exodus from Egypt.  Among other things, I remind them that the first thing the Israelites did once they were safely across the Sea of Reeds was to have a giant dance party, and that’s where the text of “Mi Chamocha” comes from.  I think this is an entirely appropriate way to set this text!  It’s got a beat, and you can certainly dance to it!

When You Believe (Prince of Egypt)
Ashira ladonai; ki ga-oh ga-ah/Mi chamocha ba-elim adonai/Mi kamocha ne-edar bakodesh/Nachita b'chasd'cha am zu ga-alta?Ashira, ashira, ashira!
"So this movie is about the book of exodus and this scene is when moses is leading all of the israelites to freedom and as a jew this hits SO HARD because for thousands of years we have fought and persevered and sung and danced and celebrated life!!!!!!!! i love being jewish aaaaah"
Farewell Wonderlust (The Amazing Devil)
I promise you im not broken, I promise you there's more/More to come, more to reach more, more to hurl at the door/Goodbye to all my darkness, there's nothing here but light/Adieu to all the faceless things that sleep with me at night/This here is not makeup, it's a porcelain tomb/And this here is not singing, I'm just screaming in tune
This here is not makeup, it's a porcelain tomb/And this here is not singing, I'm just screaming in tune
I'm the face that stares back when the screen goes to black/When your mom says you look healthy/But you know she means you got fat/I'm the tales that the guests will applaud and believe/I'm the child that you just didn't have time to conceive
"You may have taken me, and made me, but I am more than what you think, and I will /not/ let you ruin me."
"I have literally fucked up my throat by yelling this song really loudly while driving. Like, my voice was weird for multiple days afterwards. I can't put it into words but everyone I've ever heard mention the amazing devil has been so fucked up by this song."
"Ok I KNOW that this isn't going to win because no one knows the song. therefore the only mark i can leave is this rant ok. So I apologise in advance but: but did you read that absolute CALLOUT section of the lyrics i put up there?? that is only a SECTION ok. this song is so fucking weird its like someone is reaching into your soul strings and pulling on tangling them making u Feel Things like WOW. its such a. callout isnt the rigjt word for it. it just fucks one up ok. like honestly just pls pls i beg of u listen to the song or even just read the entire lyrics its so. you'll get what I mean."
"It’s about breaking under the weight of expectations and showing the world yourself in all of your imperfect, ugly, and raw glory."

מִי כָמֹֽכָה - Mi Chamocha
מִי כָמֹֽכָה - Mi Chamocha
by wilyserpent
“Bastard angel.” Crowley breathed, reveling in the scent of Aziraphale’s new cologne.
“Benevolent demon.” Aziraphale replied, his eyes trailing down from Crowley’s serpentine eyes towards his lips.
Now, Crowley could only smell fire.

01:19:56 –– Especially here, when the kids start singing the Song of the Sea. In the text, this is sung after the Israelites cross the Sea of Reeds, but honestly, it’s so gorgeous here that I don’t even care.
Hebrew translation:
Ashira l’adonai ki ga’oh ga’ah = I will sing unto G-d, for He has triumphed gloriously (Exod. 15:1)
mi chamocha ba’eilim Adonai = who is like You, G-d, among the celestials (Exod. 15:11)
mi kamocha ne’edar bakodesh = who is like You, majestic in holiness (Exod. 15:11)
nachitah v’chasdecha amzu ga’altah = in Your love You lead the people You redeemed (Exod. 15:13)

I’ve also been working on Mi Chamocha with one of my students.  Mi Chamocha is from the Ge’ulah, the last section of the Shema blessings before the Amidah.  This whole sequence happens in both Shacharit (the morning liturgy) and Ma’ariv (the evening liturgy), and it’s a very brief summary of the business end of the Exodus, the famous escape through the Sea of Reeds and the dance party afterwards.  Mi Chamocha actually comes in two versions, one for Shacharit and one for Ma’ariv.  This is the Ma’ariv version, sung to the tune used by Comunidad Bet El, a Masorti synagogue in Mexico City.

You and I have danced around the issue/And you think by now I wouldn't really miss you/Yet again we go on and on forever/Like we're metronomes falling out of sync together

Mi Chamocha, the Song of the Sea, which is apparently older than the bulk of Exodus. Although the original tune is long lost, the lyrics were probably written between the 5th and 13th centuries BCE.
please do look it up if you dont know the date bc there may be at least an approximate answer and otherwise the last option will completely dominate and this poll will be boring.
and dont be like 'but i cant sing'... just answer the earliest tune you know well enough that you COULD sing it
periods of western classical music provided only for reference

When you believe by Ariel, Anna and Carlos.
Ariel: Many nights we've prayed
With no proof anyone would hear
In our hearts a hopeful song we barely understood
Now we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were moving mountains long before we knew we could
There can be miracles when you believe
Though hope is frail it's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles you can achieve
When you believe, somehow you will
You will when you believe
Anna: In that time of fear when prayer so often proved in vain
Hope seemed like the summer birds; too swiftly flown away
Yet now we’re standing here
Ariel: Now we’re standing here
Anna: With heart so full I can't explain
Both:Seeking faith and speaking words I never thought I'd say
There can be miracles when you believe
Ariel: When you believe)
Anna: Though hope is frail it's hard to kill
Ariel: It's hard to kill
Both: Who knows what miracles you can achieve
Ariel: You can achieve)
Both: When you believe, somehow you will
You will when you believe
Carlos: Ashira ladonai; ki ga-oh ga-ah
Ashira ladonai; ki ga-oh ga-ah
Mi chamocha ba-elim adonai
Mi kamocha ne-edar bakodesh
Nachita b'chasd'cha am zu ga-alta
Nachita b'chasd'cha am zu ga-alta
Ashira, ashira, ashira
Ashira ladonai; ki ga-oh ga-ah
Ashira ladonai; ki ga-oh ga-ah
Mi chamocha ba-elim adonai
Mi kamocha ne-edar bakodesh
Nachita b'chasd'cha am zu ga-alta
Nachita b'chasd'cha am zu ga-alta
Ashira, ashira, ashira!
All three: There can be miracles when you believe
Though hope is frail it's hard to kill
Ariel: It's hard to kill)
All three: Who knows what miracles you can achieve
Ariel: You can achieve
All three: When you believe, somehow you will
Now you will
You will when you believe
Carlos: When you believe
Ariel and Anna: You will when you believe
