Okay. Okokokok. I feel insane for this but I swear I heard this precisely in Edwin's voice. Especially that last whispered line. You're magnificent. I already knew this but it hits different when you hear the voice exactly as it was on the show but in the fanfiction.

Little story that hopefully might amuse you as much as I facepalmed when the penny dropped. So ive been following you and all the other authors doing the directors cut etc asks and I was seeing asks about this 'dye it all rosary' like oh i must check it out wonder what thats about. So today i see it mentioned and im like huh i Wonder what thats about and then comes the facepalm, dye it all rosary!! The fic i return to when i read or even read the tags of smut /intimacy adjacent fics that i get yiked/annoyed by! (Just personal taste, no shade) It was DIAR all along! I just wasn't joining the dots. Anyway, all that to say, thanks for writing it ♡

OMG that's so funny! Yeah, you know, there's been quite a few times where people who've read dye it all, rosary don't realize that its one of my fics. Its pretty different than my usual brand of queerplatonic/lightly romantic case fics, and since the writing style is also a bit different than, say, MHNMTT, it totally makes sense that people don't put it together. DIAR was a result of me just experimenting with different ways of constructing a narrative, and really letting myself be a bit more poetic than I normally would.

I'm still trying to figure out who I am as a writer, which means that I'm trying a bit of everything, just to see what I do and don't enjoy. DIAR was my first exploration into writing anything nsfw at all, and I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it as much as you did.

For the "I wish you would write a fic where" game, not that I would like a fic about it but after reading (read: devouring) MHNMTT I often wonder how you think Charles would get on with a young Edwin? You just write kid interactions so well and while Edwin didnt have Charles' upbringing I get the feeling 'Children should be seen and not heard' was probably more of a rule in his home. Someone as playful as Charles would probably be a shock to the system for him? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

omg hi! I'm so happy you're enjoying MHNMTT, I'm having such a blast sharing it with ya'll. This is question is something I've definitely thought about, and even played around with in a short little babysitter's AU back when I was trying to figure out how to write baby Charles accurately (and ended up doing a second chapter featuring little Edwin).

So, Edwin and Charles had different upbringings, obviously, but there were what I imagine some pretty big similarities. As you’ve probably noticed in MHNMTT, I’ve been pretty clear about my headcanon that Edwin grew up in a very emotionally neglectful household (as you said, 'seen and not heard'). Unlike Charles, who could sometimes look to his mother for help and comfort, both of Edwin’s parents really wanted nothing to do with him—he was kind of left alone with nannies until he was old enough to mind himself. Given the fact that he had probably very few friends (if any) and no parents to talk to, it all adds up to one very obvious result: an extremely lonely childhood.

Now, that’s not to say physical punishment didn’t also come into play. Corporal punishment was the standard back when Edwin was young, and even though it was seen as the norm, that didn’t lessen the effects that it had on children. Unlike Charles’s father, who clearly worked hard to keep the abuse hidden, Edwin’s parents didn’t have to do that. The neglect and abuse he suffered was simply a product of his time. It's unlikely that anyone would have even questioned it.

Now, onto your actual question! I think, initially, Edwin might actually find Charles to be very frustrating, actually. I think Charles would try to engage with Edwin like he would any other child, but since neglected children often fancy themselves adults (because they have been forced to essentially parent themselves), being treated as their actual age can feel… insulting, at first. Like they’re being talked down to.

HOWEVER. Those kids, whether they realize it or not, are still kids, and deep down, they want to be treated like kids. They want to be able to have fun and let go and just let a trusted adult be the ones to worry about responsibilities, but they just don't know how. So I think that Charles's playful personality and generally carefree approach to situations, combined with his protective nature, could really give Edwin the emotional space to just be a kid, rather than a tiny adult that needs to be quiet and perfect and well-mannered all the time.

I have a lot of random thoughts about this subject tbh, but I'll spare you my soapbox commentary on trauma responses/attachment styles and child development. Thank you for asking, and I hope you continue to enjoy the story!

Hello, dropping by for the director's cut ask game. 😄 My first impulse was to ask about MHNMTT, but I would instead love to ask for dealer's choice for dye it all, rosary, because that fic lowkey lives rent-free in my head and I'm due a re-read. It's such a beautiful exploration of intimacy & pleasure in the face of all that HEAVY trauma. Just, anything you want to talk about in regards to that story.

So, writing dye it all, rosary was a bit of a whirlwind, because I sat down with chapter one and really had no idea what I wanted to write other than knowing I had something to say about the Lust circles of Hell and just needed to get it out (this is a common theme with me—I am notoriously bad at planning things before I start because my ADHD knows no bounds, though I am trying to get better about it). I wasn’t even sure if anyone was gonna read it just because of how heavy the content was, so its one of my few recent works that wasn’t beta read. It was honestly barely even edited (though chapter two got a bit more of an editing process because it was my first time writing anything NSFW).

For a little fun fact: I actually started writing a whole sequel that will never see the light of day (I wrote about 4k, then got anxious and decided not to continue), but I did expand a bit on Sa'al and what I though Edwin's experience being owned by him would be like. I think in that, I had Sa'al working his souls to 'death' over and over and over again in building/repairing his domain, and if they weren't working, then they were locked in cells with no food or water. So, it was basically work yourself to death, or starve to death, over and over and over again.

There is! It's actually the scene I'm working on now, for ch. 11 of MHNMTT (I'm about halfway done with the first draft). I don't want to share a snippet because I want to keep it a secret, but let's just say that Charles is gonna get some guidance from a new outside source, and it's been very fun for me to write.

I have a flirty oneshot that I started and never finished that involves Edwin trying to teach Charles piano, and then they kiss about it because Charles has nice hands. I think nice hands counts as a trope, personally
