Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Side Of Dimensions Review:
Nostalgia Bait Gone Wrong!
This movie was made to cash in on my childhood, and it failed miserably since I outgrew Duel Monsters years ago.Today I decided to review a movie that I've had a visual loathing problem with since its inception back in 2016. I need to go into more depth because I can't simply ignore it.I have finally decided to review Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions and its mixed reception at the box office. There's a lot to talk about with this movie, and I hope I can cover it all since MyAnimeList has a limit on the amount of text and characters I can use.I am also going to explain two major topics. One is about production problems and nepotism, and the other is about reception and box office gross.
Oh god, this movie is going to suck, isn't it? Oh, wait. It is!
In The End It has to be this way: To me, Dark Side of Dimensions will always be the movie that killed my interest in Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, despite it being the third movie primarily focused on Duel Monsters. Let's delve into a bit of history regarding the Yu-Gi-Oh! movies. Firstly, there was the Toei Yu-Gi-Oh! movie from the late 90s, which was never released on DVD or Blu-ray, either because it was non-canon to the story or simply never considered canon. It's never been explained why it wasn't released on DVD. Then, in the early 2000s, we got the first movie for the Gallop Yu-Gi-Oh! series, Pyramid of Light, which received mixed reception. In its defense, it was created to rival Pokémon movies, but unfortunately, it didn't succeed. This led to the fandom's first uproar, with some blaming Takahashi for it. However, Takahashi wasn't responsible for it; it was actually 4KIDS who commissioned it from Japan. It's surprising that people are still misinformed about this in 2024. Next, we had Bonds Beyond Time, which was the only good movie in my opinion. And then, we have this disaster I'm reviewing.
Two Birds and One Stone Troupe: Now, let's delve into two topics I want to cover simultaneously: Animation and Directing. I'm going to be quite salty about this one. You see, one of my pet peeves is the apparent nepotism and the overemphasis on pretty colors and stereotyping in this movie, which I strongly oppose. This isn't me being biased or offering subjective criticism; I detest the prioritization of 'pretty colors' over substance. In today's media landscape, there's a tendency to mock older shows for not being 'flashy action,' 'self-inserted,' or 'well-made.' People often jump on the bandwagon and promote fake agendas like 'nepotism,' which is another problem I need to address. You cannot judge a movie solely based on animation. This isn't just the recurring issue with My Hero Academia and its animation; it's a problem I like to call the Yugioh Zexal fiasco.Animation production is expensive and often costs way too much. Despite how much money a show or movie makes, its value is ultimately determined by its reception at the box office. Personally, I disliked My Hero Academia because its cinematic animation received more positive reviews than its main series did. It felt like MHA was using the movies as a platform to showcase better fights because the main series itself seemed lazy and uninteresting. So, what does this have to do with the review? Well, people tend to be aggressive towards the media and often blame anime studios for being outdated or lazy. Studio Gallop was never a mainstream studio nor was it financially stable. The Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and movies had above-average production quality before the Zexal era, but then it shifted towards flashy visuals and over-the-top animation, which I found to be a mishap of nonsense. In fact, this movie is why I've disliked its production since 2014 because Konami seemed to be on a death wish to produce another movie that would likely result in financial losses. The movie was primarily focused on impressing the audience, trying to position itself as a 'savior,' but it ultimately failed miserably since people could see the excessive cost of production. The biggest problem with the movie lies in its direction, which was mediocre and poorly choreographed. To make matters worse, it was helmed by the same director I loathe, Satoshi Kuwabara. His tendency for poorly paced animation hiccups makes him a prime example of how not to hire a good director. Kuwabara comes off as lazy and immature in his approach to production. However, Yu-Gi-Oh! fans seem to get upset when his work is criticized, even though it's riddled with flaws. People often only point out issues with localization, blaming the wrong sources. But in reality, the direction of the movie was mediocre at best. He was responsible for the previous screw-up known as Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal and its mixed reception in the West due to the disaster of the anime. He was in charge of that series from day one. What I found particularly strange is that he never gave interviews or tried to explain what was even happening in the show. He appeared mostly lazy and inconsistent, in my opinion.
Nepotism Is as it's peak: This section is about Takahashi, who didn't understand his own logic in the first place. While people defended the movie for its flashy animation and nostalgia bait, Takahashi received universal criticism because he is solely at fault for this movie's failure. In the 2010s, people didn't blame him enough for Zexal, but he was blamed for this movie being a total disaster. It focused on stereotypes, dehumanizing the first Yu-Gi-Oh! show by portraying the characters as nothing more than jerks, and in the process, proving the critics right. In fact, this movie catered to those wanting another political card game war, leading to many people being divided due to his ego once again being involved.
Nepotism characterized the movie, with character assassination and story points being dropped in favor of it being a love letter to Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 6 that never happened. This whole movie is just Pyramid of Light recreated with dumb animation borrowed from Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V's production, solely to improve the movie and divide the fans once again. He tried to cover the movie's tracks under the rug because he couldn't take the fact that he knew personally if he stole animation or writing budgets from another ongoing Yu-Gi-Oh! project, it would lead to fandom wars.
Many Yu-Gi-Oh! fans know that he screwed up big time and never apologized for the movie's faults. People are split because of Takahashi's opinions and his ego regarding how Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal turned out to be a disaster, as he was involved in that series but left at some point to start early production on Dark Side of Dimensions. Many fans say that Takahashi wasn't very involved with the series, but for reasons he doesn't want to take part in a show. The reason for this is that Takahashi has an ego that lets him anger the fandom because the story wasn't in favor of anything but solely overpowering the show's credibility and creating a dumpster fire, just like how Zexal became that way.In short, he is the reason why Yu-Gi-Oh! is doomed. He can't seem to improve the story and let it progress, as his original anime, Duel Monsters, was never fully adapted. The manga was left with plot holes and a lack of depth due to arcs being cut too soon. In short, Yu-Gi-Oh! was doomed because any show past 5D's became unlikable and disrespected. This man wanted to push an agenda, much like how Zexal was supposed to be Duel Monsters 2.0.
We hated ARC-V for this? That brings me to the production itself, which was undermined by his lackeys and others who tried to make this movie happen. The movie was made sometime between 2014 and 2016, and it's largely at fault for stealing the budget from shows like Arc-V. I'm not one to just jump on the bandwagon and start supporting a movie because someone told me to. There is no movie in the whole universe I have ever been hyped about just because many people tell me to support its production rather than focusing on the actual story and characters.Studio Gallop was never a mainstream studio like Studio Mappa or Studio Bones. Gallop was a studio meant to handle shows made for children, not mainstream abominations that performed terribly at the box office. These movies were universally panned because their stories were either handled poorly in the manga or never completed. The studio often misled their fandom, promising that the movies would be gold standards, but this was a lie. The movies were more meant to be tie-ins rather than delivering what the fandom demanded.
The Box Office Disaster The movie was a box office disaster, failing to recoup its production costs and falling short of expectations. Despite the hype and nostalgia surrounding the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, The Dark Side of Dimensions couldn't draw in enough viewers to be profitable. This was partly due to the overly ambitious budget that prioritized flashy animation over a coherent and engaging story. Fans were left disappointed, and critics panned the movie for its lack of depth and substance, leading to its poor performance at the box office.
The Duels The duels, which should have been the highlight of the movie, were also a letdown. They were poorly choreographed and lacked the strategic depth that fans loved in the original series. Instead of thrilling, intellectually stimulating matches, the duels in The Dark Side of Dimensions felt rushed and overly reliant on flashy visuals. This focus on style over substance left many fans feeling cheated. The duels failed to capture the essence of what made Yu-Gi-Oh! great in the first place, ultimately contributing to the overall disappointment with the movie.
Overall The movie is just nostalgia bait 101. You can't tell me that many people have a bias for it just because of the animation and pretty colors. In fact, people hated this movie because it was made with money taken from another project, which left their fandom unhappy. If you tell me that I'm being negative because I prefer 5D's, which was universally better than this movie, it's only because you refused to watch 5D's. I'm starting to believe that Konami never planned for this movie; it was a last-second attempt to make money.

What is your take on DSOD and how why did it suck so much?
Do you think 4KIDS didn't dub GX and 5d's because of reasons that aren't lawsuits or bad rattins?
Grammer Nazi Police when? LOL XD

I give the the movie a 2/10
Question 2:
The lack of dubs for 5D's and GX is both the fault of 4Kids. The way it was handled years ago reflects how today’s society is afraid to speak the truth about it. I believe it’s all American bullshit politics. There is a reason why i prefer subs since we never got neither fully released on DVD.

Hello Fellow Selfship Lover!
Hello! Welcome to my little corner of the internet dedicated to loving on fictional characters and having them love on me! You can call me Ace, I use she/her pronouns, and I was born in the *90s*. You can click here to go to my main blog to see how I use tumblr more regularly and get to know me a little better 🩶
This is not a fanfiction writing blog (I have a fanfiction reading blog here). This is purely self-indulgent on my part, and is a blog for my selfships. It exists in part to reduce the amount of incomprehensible tag nonsense on my main. I want to be able to navigate my own tags, and I can't do that if I'm complaining about Yami's smoking habit in said tags.
But it primarily exists as a space for me to keep track of all of the selfship lore, so that when I move from one Lover to the next, and then come back, I don't lose the threads of our narrative.
Collectively, my "harem" is referred to as the Lovers' Library. Feel free to send in asks about any of them! Or any of my other Treasures for that matter.
I use the term "self-insert" very loosely; it's more accurate to say that they are OCs that share my face, name, and base personality. But that's about where the comparisons stop. I inflict so much pain and suffering on these self-inserts that are not a reflection of my real life.
I use characters from other media as OCs. For example, in my main TR selfship, Sukehiro Yami (BC) is a yakuza boss; Daichi Sawamura (HQ) is a cop recently assigned to the team responsible for keeping track of the Sukehiro family (in addition to other things...). Stuff like that. It's easier for me to keep track of all the OCs this way because I already know their names, and it provides an easy "blueprint" for their personalities/occupations/etc.
Fair warning: none of my lore makes any fucking sense. My self-inserts are generally overpowered, either literally or figuratively (looking at my MHA and TR self-inserts respectively); when I'm daydreaming, I'm not pausing the narrative to check on the legitimacy of a law or a concept, so whatever I come up with is now a "fact" of the world, regardless of whether or not it's legit (I'm not checking after the fact either!); and I often change canon lore to fit my own needs. I inflict so much pain and suffering on my self-inserts that are not a reflection of my real life.
Most of my self-inserts experience some kind of sexual trauma as a part of their narrative. (Never at the hands of the selfship.) Do I have a rationale for this? Not really, as I said it's not a reflection of my real life. However, it is definitely a trend, and a trend that I cannot seem to escape. Looking back on when I used to write creatively, copious amounts of trauma in general seems to have been a trend. Does the amount of trauma always make sense? No, but that's not the point. Is this some kind of coping with an underlying fear of being treated as an object/non-human? Probably, but I don't know where the fear originates from.
The odds of me discussing my self-inserts sexual traumas are very, very low (practically non-existent), but I understand if the idea of it alone makes you uncomfortable, and you don't want to hang out. As I said above, this is about me being incredibly self-indulgent. I don't necessarily expect anyone to indulge me with follows or interactions.
I probably won't be using any trigger warnings on this blog, just because it's going to be a hot mess in the tags as it is.
If you have any issues with how I handle my selfships/self-inserts, I would prefer if you didn't interact. I'm not here to listen to you tell me how problematic/unrealistic something is, or how out-of-character someone is, or how "Mary Sue" my self-insert is. I likely know all of your complaints already, but I'm here to keep my main clean and keep track of my own lore, nothing else.
Other than that, the Library welcomes you and hopes you enjoy your stay for as long as you're here 🩶

Hello all! While I do have a specific RP idea in mind, I'm still going to use the RP template offered by the mod of findroleplay (danke danke mate) to make my thoughts more streamlined. I have a tendency to ramble, after all!
I'm Writer, 22NB! I've been roleplaying for years, but in the past six months, I swapped over to RP'ing on only Discord, with the occasional exception. This RP, should you choose to accept it, will be a double-up RP (so two ships going on at the same time)! I will only RP with someone who is 18+.
On to the actual ad!
Literacy: Literate/Advanced Literate - Each reply would be a total of 12-18 paragraphs per reply, bare minimum. This would mean roughly 6-9 paragraphs per character (this is a double-up ad, so two characters for each of us!). Please write a minimum of 4,000 characters/600-800 words/6-9 paragraphs per reply side.
Fandom: My Hero Academia/Boku No Hero Academia (MHA/BNHA), though this is all based on a semi-in-depth soulmate AU I've spent months crafting. If you would like to read the full description of the AU, please feel free to contact me! In its most basic form, it is 'First Words'- and upon meeting your soulmate, you gain a stat boost. However, if your soulmate dies, so do you. A link to a far more thorough explanation will be at the end of the ad!
Pairing Types: CCxOC/SI (I write 'OC/SI' because I RP as a self-insert, but those who do RP with me interchangeably call Fin an OC). You can choose if you want your side to be CCxCC or CCxOC, or even CCxSI, but mine will be CCxSI. ^^ I'm also fine with portraying any romantic inclination from FxF to MxM, or MxF, NBxF, so on and so forth. My side will be MxNB!
Characters: Finley Well/The Quirkless Hero (SI), Toshinori Yagi/All Might (Canon), Your OC/Character of Your Choice, Said Character's Love Interest (Canon)
Ships: YagiFin, Your Ship!
Triggers: Age Gaps (Fin is 26, Yagi is 49- if your ship is a minor x adult I will not be RP'ing with you, age gaps between consenting adults are fine), Emotional/Physical Abuse (mentions thereof), Attempted Murder, Mental Health discussed in some depth, depicted Panic Attacks.
Genres: Romance, Adventure, Action, Slice of Life
Plot Ideas: The RP itself would, by-and-large, follow canon events/the series itself. Over time, however, more and more events would diverge from canon and into fanon thanks to the inputs of our ships/OCs (if you also have an OC in the mix!). The RP itself would focus a lot more on the romantic aspect, since that's my jam~! I don't like humongous amounts of angst (like- characters breaking up and whatnot), and tend to prefer very fluffy RPs.
Where: Discord. I don't RP on Tumblr anymore, so if this ad intrigues you, please DM me so we can hash out details! I'll send over all necessary documents and links near the start of our conversation, feel free to do the same!
Other: Like I mentioned above, while I don't mind angst (it's tasty in decent doses!) I don't want the RP to be a major-angst fest. I very much prefer fluff and romance and all that tooth-rotting nonsense, but Fin's history does contain some dark moments that will crop up during the RP itself. I will ask for a writing sample early on, since I would like to see if our RP styles will mesh or not!
If you're interested and want to see if we can RP together, please send me a message with your pen name, pronouns, and favorite/least favorite characters of My Hero Academia so we can get started! Please and thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you. ^^
Links for Those Interested (will be sent to any interested if it appears you have not read any of the links): AU Explanation: https://www.reddit.com/user/Defeated_Author/comments/13arnle/my_mha_aus_please_credit_if_you_use/ *Please try to view the docs on a computer, as viewing them on other devices tends to break the formatting. Been talking to a good friend about my BnHA/MHA self insert underground-ish hero person thing and I decided to yammer about her since I want to write about something. If I organize my thoughts maybe I can like idek write a fic or something
I'll tag all these posts as #bnha self insert nonsense and #mha self insert nonsense
This is part 1: Introduction
Name: Cassie I never gave her a last name (gave her this name years ago as it's s reference to her quirk)
Hero Name: The Reliable Hammer: Soothsayer (a child gave her TRH moniker because she kept saving them and their family from collapsing tenant housing due to a corrupt landlord)
Age: 31 (in the present manga, which is April second year right now)
Zodiac: Capricorn
Quirk: Vibe Check (Everyone and everything (time, space, animals, etc...) in the universe vibrates at its own unique frequency. Her quirk allows her to interpret these vibrations. Very useful in finding people alive in dangerous situations. Also useful when it gives her peeks at the future. Perceives the vibes as dreams and daydreams. Some things are audio only, some are a mix, and some are visual only. Didn't realize she had a quirk until she was sixteen because everyone in the family has a bit of a strong intuition in addition to their quirks and she's got the strongest.
Job: Works for Thirteen's rescue/recovery agency since before Thirteen took it over from the previous hero who ran it. Has been doing rescue/recovery work since she was 16 as part of her internships and her career post-UA. Wanted to do rescue/recovery work since she was about six years old
Partner: Present Mic. They've known each other since they were sixteen, been roommates since they were twenty, and been dating since they were almost twenty-seven. The general population thinks they've been married since they were about eighteen or nineteen because in high school they nicknamed each other waiffuru (wife/waffle) and husbentou (husband/bentou) and accidentally called each other that on camera during an interview after taking care of a villain fresh out of passing their pro hero exam on route to a party with friends. They became friends because they're both weird and have similar taste in music.
Family: Middle child (older sister and little brother). All three of them were born in the US and moved to Japan when Cassie was six because their dad got a job. Sister returned to the US for university, Mom, Dad, and Brother returned to US after the Ten Neighborhood incident. Cassie chose to stay in Japan because in the US heroes are closely tied to the military and she enjoys not dealing with that by working in Japan. In some incarnations of the story, her whole family dies during the Ten Neighborhood Incident.
Body Type: Very pear shaped, kind of stocky/sturdy. Hardly any boobs, but hips for days. Very muscular. Long brown hair cut into layers with bangs and brownish-green eyes. Hero uniform is basically a white speed suit and special helmet whose visor helps filter out flashing light so Cassie won't have seizures. Most days when off duty she wears hooded sweatshirts and either jeans or pj pants. When she goes on dates, she likes to be cute so she'll do something like pair a sundress with a cardigan and put on a purse. If she has to be super fancy she will wear a pretty dress and do her hair up in a special way. Maybe even wear a little lipstick depending, but she usually wears no makeup. She's between Bakugou and Kirishima's heights (171 cm) but heavier than the average afab because of her muscular physique.
Personality: Cassie is very shy until she warms up and then she can be very talkative. She's definitely fight and not flight. She hates being the center of attention which is part of why she chooses not to be on the Billboard (she also doesn't want to waste time with things like makeup, trendy clothes, and endorsements). Definitely has a Big Sister Mode (tm) and will use it without prejudice. Knows it's her job to make people having a terrible day feel better while saving them so tries her best to do her job properly and efficiently. Would fight Endeavor behind a 7/11 at 3am. Has a soft spot for Bakugou, who she's known since he was a very small child, and who receives a good does of the Big Sister Mode when they run into each other. Also has a soft spot for all the Todoroki children since she's known them since she was sixteen and Shouto was a year old. She and Fuyumi still meet up to chat over lunch when they can get away from work. She totally knows the truth about Touya and chooses to keep it to herself because while she knows her quirk is 100% accurate, she likes to trust and verify before bringing something that earth-shattering to light in the off chance she's finally wrong for once.
Health: Cassie has had epilepsy since birth but due to technological advancement and her choice of becoming a rescue/recovery hero, she can use her helmet to mitigate potential triggers. Also because she's a recue/recovery hero, she has to abide by shift guidelines to ensure that any rescue team member working across Japan is capable of doing their job. These shifts have applied to rescue recovery workers since a major disaster fifty years ago that could have been prevented if the whole team wasn't running on no sleep in 3 days. Her typical shift is 8am - 4pm Then she's on call from 4pm - 8 am. If she works two shifts in a row then she won't be on call for the duration of the next eight hour shift. During major emergencies, rescue/recovery workers sleep on site during the eight hour rest period.
Home: Currently-ish Cassie lives in a one bedroom apartment that she's shared with Yamada for years. Now that UA is doing the dorm system, Cassie is pretty much living by herself but she texts Yamada and they try to video chat or talk on the phone whenever they can coordinate it. It's the longest they've gone without seeing each other face to face, but there are periods of time when her shifts and his shifts don't match up so they aren't complete strangers to having to live apart while living together. I'm still waffling on what exactly is going on with her in the current manga arc. In the versions of the story in which her family survives, they're concerned for her being in Japan and are trying to talk her into returning to the USA. Cassie, however, is committed to her job and to Yamada, so she's going to stay in Japan.
I'll yammer about more stuff in another post.

I've been wanting to talk about this for a while, but I always get frustrated when I see the argument "just let people enjoy stuff" in relation to critique towards the loki show. Because here's the thing, for all intensive purposes I enjoyed watching it. I liked being able to sit down, once a week with my family and watch an episode, I liked being able to see the aesthetic of the tva and the void, I liked to see Tom Hiddleston act.
I enjoyed watching the show the first time I watched it because I didn't really bother to think or analyze it much. I was still preoccupied with a different hyperfixation and it wasn't really my focus. But I had set aside an entire weekend to rewatch the full show in retrospect. I watched thor (2011), avengers (2012) and immediately after the loki show because I wanted to be able to properly talk about it and properly watch it and take it all in.
I suppose you could say that was my mistake.
Because when I watch shows I have two ways of doing so, I'll watch it once so intensely that I cannot do anything else at the same time (examples: castlevania, the owl house, queen's gambit, jujutsu kaisen, young justice season 1). Or I'll watch it once through while doing other things because I might be autistic but also adhd do be like that sometimes. But whether or not I'm fully engaged with it is another thing, I wasn't fully engaged with the show the first time I watched it.
It was background noise to me, mostly because I have spent literal years of my life avoiding getting attached to the character of Loki (I mean literal years, I didn't watch thor when it first came out, but I was going on something like, six or so years of avoidance when I finally caved) because I knew I would be very emotionally attached. In other words, as a nine-year-old kid I was able to take one look at his character and be like, I see myself in him, that's a first. Because I didn't have characters or people in my life I could relate to like that.
So because the rejection sensitivity dysphoria is strong in this one, i avoided it.
Honestly the only reason I decided to properly engage with show is because I posted a meme I made on my pervious url that got a surprising amount of notes.
This was the joke for context:
I know I'm hilarious.
Anyways what I'm saying, through all of my rambling nonsense is that actually, I can enjoy a show, and still take issue with the writing. I am allowed to like something for the sake of entertainment and then rip it to shreds.
Like, I don't watch Riverdale or Titans because I like the writing. I watch it because it's entertaining, or at least I used to, I haven't touched either of those shows past season one and even that was a hot second ago to be honest.
But I found the Loki show as a show to be very enjoyable. The problem isn't that it's not enjoyable, or that it's lacking in the potential to be so, the problem is within the writing of the show itself. The problem with the loki show is that it isn't about loki, that the writing is inconsistent and insulting, that it's infantilizing and invalidating.
I can say I think the Loki show has terrible writing and still enjoy watching episode two on occasion. I can say I found the show entertaining and I enjoyed watching it, but if someone where to ask me for recommendations for Loki content I wouldn't give them the show.
It's not about whether or not the show is enjoyable, it's about the character, and in a show where a poorly written mashup of several comic characters that reminds me way to much of my own shitty mha-self-insert from seventh grade looks the title character in the eye, and tells them that the crux of the plot of the entire show isn't about them? Yeah, that scene is entertaining, but it's bad writing, because fun fact, those two things can co-exist actually.

Hey y’all! I wrote a little ficlet for @self-insert-nonsense‘s MHA villain character, Spectre. Please go to them if you want to know more!
---
Spectre thought this would be an easy battle. Toy with, or even kill, some heroes to satisfy Shigaraki's almost fetishistic need to impress his father. Spectre never wanted to get into any of the other villains dirty laundry, especially Shigaraki's. She saw what he could do to people and wasn't one to accept failure without someone getting hurt in the process. So, Spectre respectfully did what she was told like a good little ghost.
"Is everything in order?" Shigaraki's raspy voice said over his miniature army of villains.
"Of course, Shiggy, dear!" Toga responded right next to Spectre. It took everything in Spectre's power not to flinch at the loudness of her voice.
"No! Of course not! Yes, I am, big man!" A black and gray bodysuit wearer appeared in the villainess peripheral vision. Spectre couldn't help but smile as the man continued to shift in tones and dramatically wave his hands. Twice was always fun to be around, even if he was a little unpredictable.
"What about you, Lizard Man?" Shigaraki turned to his right.
The "lizard man" lowered his red scarf and his bared his teeth. He unleashed an animalistic snarl at his blue-haired companion. Shigaraki raised his hands defensively. "Relax, Spinner, I was only teasing."
Spinner snorted and turned away. Spectre couldn't control her eye roll. Spinner had to be her least favorite villain (not saying she had a favorite but who was paying attention anyway?). He was infatuated with Stain and emulated him in every single way. Through his clothing, his weapons, his fighting style, Spectre was so close to waltzing into Tartarus herself and taking over Stain just to shut the man up.
"Spectre!"
Sure, I might be caught, Spectre mused But at least he'd stop cosplaying in battle.
Shigaraki's harsh voice broke through her thoughts. Her eyes met his red ones. She could almost feel the dry skin around them peel off and float towards her. Spectre nearly gagged as he spoke.
"We need you to go out first. Cause a little distraction so the pure and honorable heroes get too tied up to notice their demise."
Spectre heard Toga let out a cackle. She dipped her head and stretched. "Alright, sir. Let me get into position."
He nodded and glanced up from his spot in the trees. "Dabi, watch her body for us."
Spectre blinked in surprise. She hadn't noticed the jet haired individual squatting above them until Shigaraki pointed him out. He lazily glanced down at Spectre and frowned. "Seriously? I'm on babysitting duty? Why not Spinner or Toga?"
"We need Spinner's blades to cut through the enemy and for Toga to copy one of them to create distrust among their ranks."
"Twice?" Dabi suggested, leaping down next to his commander.
"Twice won't do it, never!" His gruff tone turned to a more positive one. "I'd be glad to help out, Shigaraki!"
Shigaraki raised his hand, silencing Twice before he went on one of his tangents. "Twice's skills will be useful in this fight."
He leaned into the other man's face and sneered. "Are you questioning my authority, Dabi?"
The air around them grew still. Toga swiftly pulled out a knife and ran her tongue across the blade. Twice followed Toga and dropped his measuring tapes to his sides. Spectre even noticed Spinner reach for his weapons. The standoff between the two members was growing tenser by the moment. Although she wasn't a fighter by nature, more of a manipulator, Spectre knew how to throw a couple of good punches and a kick. Preparing herself for a clash between the two villains, the villainess Quirk user inched forward, her long sleeves brushing against the surrounding twigs and leaves.
Instead of blasting Shigaraki in the face with his azure flames, Dabi tsked and turned his head. His intense blue gaze bore into Spectre.
"Fine, I'll watch her," Dabi said after several agonizing seconds. "But don't expect me to make sure she remains completely scratch-free."
Shigaraki's chapped lips grew into a frightening smile. "All I ask is for your best."
He turned to Spectre. "Are you ready, my dear?"
Spectre nodded. "Yes, sir."
Without another word, she settled herself into a comfortable position against the tree. Specter doubt checked to make sure she wouldn't fall out of the tree the moment she left her body. She could tell everyone was growing antsy or annoyed or a combination of both. However, dozens of shattered rips and broken bones taught her to always be careful. With a deep breath, her ghost form exploded from her chest. The familiar chill brought nothing but a sense of euphoria. She looked down at her comrades, smiled, then dashed through the trees. Not even the leaves were rustled by her jet-like speeds. Once the treeline clear and a path came into view, she settled in between two oaks. Purple wisps fluttered off her body as she nestled deeper into the leaves. She could hear her targets drawing closer.
It was a greasy-haired teacher and his costumed students following him like ducklings.
Probably some silly training exercise she sneered. Not that it will ever match the real deal.
She counted them all; Twenty in total. Then she started to pick out her potential victims. Maybe that punk chick with the long earlobes that dangled like headphone jacks? Nah, she was too busy talking to some barely dressed ponytail girl and would probably see her if she tried to Possess her. Perhaps the buff kid with several arms? He seemed to be purposely putting himself away from the group and Spectre needed a bigger distraction. What about that purple midget that was trying to sneak a peek under Ponytail's clothes? Spectre shivered.
He's the one!
Even I have limits she thought to herself. Then she let out a wheezy laugh when a frog-like girl slapped the boy with her tongue. She went to her search when she found him. A green-haired boy shouldered between two other people. Yes, he was leading the gaggle of students along with the obviously underslept teacher, but he had an aura around him. Spectre could almost feel the power radiating off him. She licked her lips and a soft moan escaped her mouth.
Without a moment of hesitation, Spectre flew over the group. She dive-bombed downward and before anyone could utter out a warning, she Possessed the powerful child.
Spectre was right in her assumption. He was containing a powerful Quirk. She could feel it running through her. But something was wrong. Instead of the usual adrenaline pulsing through her, Spectre was feeling a numb tingling sensation. Her host let out a raspy breath and clutched his chest; both of them felt something awful.
"Midoriya?" She heard someone call out.
She would've answered but the tingling transformed into a burning sensation. Using her host's body, she began to scratch at her arms. Spectre could sense that everyone was staring at her (him? Them?). She didn't care. She couldn't care. All she could focus on was getting this burning to stop.
"Hey, dumbass! What's the matter with you? Your nerd brain finally killed itself or something?"
Spectre would've normally whipped around and charged at the person who dared insult her and she almost did. Then it hit her.
A bolt of lightning slammed into her and caused the pain to quadruple in intensity. The once fiery sensation was replaced with complete electrical torture. Even though she shouldn't have been able to feel the pain of her host in any way, Spectre felt like her skin was melting off her. Her muscles torn off her like a rapid dog tearing the meat a bone. Her host's eyes were watering for he felt the exact same pain she did. They gripped their head and screamed. Spectre didn't know if it was her screaming or her host. Whatever the case, the excoriating pain needed to stop.
"Izuku!"
They felt a pair of hands grabbed onto them. They turned their head and were met with soft, yet terrified, brown eyes. A girl with the soundest face Spectre had ever seen was staring at them, clearly concerned about their health. That concern turned to complete fear as she looked into her host's (Spectre figured his name had to be Izuku) eyes. They were a glowing violet, like all her past and future victims would have if she Possessed them.
"Uraraka! Get out of the way!"
This is my chance! I have to strike!
Despite the torture Spectre was going through, she dug through her host’s soul, his everything, his Being, to find his Quirk. Once she felt it, she took hold. The pain grew even worse as she charged up an attack. Their right arm began to glow a bright teal with sparks flying off it. Oh God, it was painful. Their arm was nothing but a pile of melted flesh if what they were feeling was correct.
They swung forward, hoping to pop that stupid girl's eyes out of her socket. Before she could even get close, a black figure stepped in front of the round-faced girl. The white scarf around their neck was hovering threatening around him. They looked up, filled with rage at this audacity of this man. The moment they looked up, they were met with a piercing red glare. Before Spectre to try and fight back, she was thrown away from her host and back into her normal body.
Spectre gasped for air. She wrapped herself up tightly with her arms. Her breaths turned into panicked wheezing. Although the pain was gone, she could still psychosomatically feel its effects under her skin. She began to scratch. And scratch. And scratch. And-
"Mimoto!"
A rough hand grasped her ghostly gray one and slammed it against the tree. It snapped her out of her spiraling emotions. She peered upwards and was face to face with Dabi's icy blue eyes. While his face remained neutral, almost uncaring, Spectre didn't miss the concern in his voice.
He used my name
No one, not even Twice or Toga, used her name: Nusuma Mimoto. She told everyone it but they, including her, preferred her villain name.
Her heart thudded against her chest. She was sure Dabi could her it.
"What happened? Tell me!" Dabi demanded.
Ah, there's the real Dabi.
"I'm not sure," Spectre confessed. "I choose this green-haired kid to Possess and... It hurt. You know as well as I that none of my Possessions have ever hurt before but for this reason this... Snot colored brat made me feel like I was being shredded."
Dabi froze. He released Spectre's hand and stood up from his crouched position. He gazed off towards the clearing, the sounds of battle growing louder and louder.
"Izuku Midoriya." he murmured.
"Izuku Midoriya?" Spectre repeated. "You know him."
"Sorta."
Toga's shrill laughter followed by several thunder-like explosions echoed across the forest. The roaring of an engine and lightning fell close behind that. Dabi cracked his neck before looking down at Spectre. "Are you going to be fine or do you need a blankie?"
Spectre waved him off, ignoring the baby voice he put on. "Go. They'll need your dumbass more than me."
Dabi was about to take off but Spectre grabbed hold of the bottom of his black coat. She looked up at him and bared her teeth.
"Go get 'em, Charcoal."
Dabi smirked and dove into the trees. His footsteps grew softer and softer the farther away he got. Alone, Spectre slumped against the tree, not bothering to focus on keeping her balance. If she fell, she fell. She was too busy pondering one single thought.
Who is Izuku Midoriya?

Ever considered self insert or ocs in the mha universe?
I do have an OC! Although I’m personally sort of wary of OCs and self inserts that I would put into the MHA universe (I mean, there’s nothing wrong with it! Have fun, make OCs and self-inserts!!) - mainly because of all the drama from the early internet Naruto OC/self-insert MS nonsense ahahahah~

Tonight’s self-insert ramble is about two fleshed out formative experiences in Cassie’s hero career.
The Ten Ward incident happened when Cassie was twenty and only had her pro hero license for about two years. It was April and Thirteen had only just officially joined Ram Hero’s agency as a sidekick. Cassie received a text alert just after midnight requesting she suit up and go to a train station about three wards away. She left her apartment and took one of the last busses across town. It could only take her only so close to the scene because one of the train stations exploded and it compromised buildings for blocks. Cassie sets to work with others from the agency helping find survivors and determining where dead bodies might be. Other groups work on evacuations and by the time the sun rises, they’re well into the job and mostly assisting the investigation and recovery efforts. It’s almost the end of shift and there’s a noise like an explosion from multiple locations but no more noise after before sirens fill the air. Cassie gets transferred to a different train station that exploded and the work begins again. This time it’s more devastating because of the number of people in the train station. Once all the survivors are located, Cassie’s sent to another similar scene to help find survivors. When four o’clock rolls around, she’s still helping search for survivors at yet another similar scene. She’s exhausted and it’s time for her to go on a mandatory eight hour break period. She’s near her family’s home.
This is where the story splinters into multiple directions it could take. Sometimes Cassie can’t get home because the house is compromised. Sometimes she can go home but finds no one there. It starts to sink in that the train station her dad uses to go to work, the one her brother uses to go to school, the one her mom walks by on her way to the store also exploded. Sometimes Cassie’s entire family gets wiped out (her sister’s office being near a station), sometimes they’re injured, sometimes only a few of them are injured. If there are survivors, they move back to the USA, but Cassie remains in Japan because she likes doing rescue and recovery work without having to be part of the military like heroes are in the USA.
Cassie can’t stay at the house either way because it’s compromised so she tries to head back to her apartment, but it’s also compromised because ten different train stations detonated due to a villain’s quirk that allowed them to plant bombs in inorganic material. The villain’s already been apprehended by All Might but it doesn’t matter almost because all the bombs went off (the first one going off at midnight was a fluke). She sits off to the side somewhere out of the way and is tired and hungry and stressed and worried that she cries.
Her phone buzzes and it’s Yamada. He’s been working on some of the scenes in another part of town and heard that Cassie’s station detonated. Cassie assures him she’s in one piece, but he manages to get out of her that her apartment is uninhabitable. He offers her a place to stay and she takes him up on it. They meet up at his apartment and what’s supposed to be a temporary thing, but after a week, they find it’s nicer than living apart. There’s someone there after a hard day at work, someone to share chores with, someone to chill with, etc…etc…and they get along fairly well and neither of them are the type to leave messes for the other. Yamada is also excited to have Cassie around because she can kill the bugs and he never has to touch another bug again. They both sleep on separate futons near each other with distance between the futons. It’s also comforting to feel like they’re not along vs. the dark.
In the versions where Cassie loses her family, Yamada stands at her side during the funeral and helps her sort through what’s left of the family home. In the versions where Cassie’s family moves away but Cassie remains in Japan, Yamada and her brother end up talking because they’ve known each other a while too at this point and Yamada promises he’ll make sure Cassie doesn’t overdo it.
The next formative event happens about four years later during a sweltering summer. A shady landowner developer person thing was going around committing insurance fraud and bringing down low-end housing across the city to have an excuse to redevelop the land and turn it into something that would be more lucrative. Cassie went to a building collapse about every other week, sometimes rescuing the same family multiple times from different collapses. One small girl started calling her “Reliable Hammer” because she didn’t know Cassie’s hero name since Cassie’s not a Billboard hero. The moniker caught on and Cassie’s official hero name changed to “The Reliable Hammer – Soothsayer” after that summer. After the fourth collapse, Cassie goes to Ram Hero about what they can do because she thinks someone is targeting these buildings on purpose and she doesn’t want it to keep happening. Ram Horns contacts the police who are already investigating. It takes until the seventh collapse for things to fall into place and arrests to happen. Cassie ends up testifying at the trial. It was an emotionally and physically exhausting experience. People she helped save come up to her throughout her life to thank her, especially those she saved multiple times. The little girl always says hi and Cassie gets to see her grow up into a young woman. It’s also one of the reasons Cassie is rather popular in terms of underground heroes. Much like Aizawa, her reputation to do the right thing and be there to genuinely help precedes her.

Tonight’s theme for my yammering about my BnHA self insert is family and friends relationships
manga spoilers will apply
Okay, so Cassie has a pretty normal relationship with her family. Her mom teaches English and her dad works an office job. Her sister works in advertising and her brother does I’m not sure. Her mom has a special quirk that allows her to place objects in a determined space in the most efficient way possible. Her dad understands the dimensions of objects and never has to measure anything. Her sister’s quirk allows for an innate understanding of color and color theory. Her brother’s quirk allows him to understand a mechanical structure without having to disassemble it (but he’ll still disassemble it) and he can put any disassembled thing back together again. Her parents care about their kids’ well being which is part of why they moved to Japan to get away from the hyper violence of the US when her dad’s job opportunity came up. Cassie gets along pretty well with her siblings and they have normal sibling problems that have all resolved by the time they’re adults.
Since Cassie didn’t seem to have a manifested quirk, a lot of kids kind of ignored her, but didn’t give her the full Midoriya treatment because she wasn’t technically quirkless (they just all assumed she had some lame quirk that was too mundane to recognize). Even though her intuition was always spot-on and she had some kind of almost telepathic-like moments with people, no one really clued into it being her quirk, they just thought she was weird. She always managed to have kind of classroom friends that she didn’t really hang out with outside of class but would talk to her in class and willingly work with her on projects. One of them was Twice, who was in all three of her classes in middle school. Back then, he was mostly like his kind personality but if pushed, the sharper snarkier parts of his personality would surface, but like a neurotypical person might act when provoked. When they run into each other briefly during spring break when they’re seventeen, Cassie’s shocked at how exaggerated his personality has become, but he’s still Jin and still kind so she has no issues with him. He’s happy for her that she figured her quirk out, but he warns her to be careful with it because he wasn’t careful with his, and she was always kind to him so he doesn’t want her to get hurt by her own hand potentially. They say goodbye and Cassie ends up kind of crying all the way home not realizing why at first until it dawns on her that she’s never going to see him again, which hurts.
At UA, Cassie makes classroom friends with most of the students in her gen ed homeroom mostly because she’s a bit shy to be around new people in a new school. She’s also a little wary she’ll be treated like a weirdo so she’s got some warming up to do. During the Sports Festival, she meets Shirakumo during the second round activities. He invites her to join his team and they go up against his friends on other teams. It’s a lot of fun and Cassie makes it to the tournament round. The next day at school, she meets Yamada, Aizawa, Kayama, and Tensei properly at lunch. They become their own little group of weirdoes.
Her relationship with Shirakumo is kind of like a step up from being classroom friends. They hang out after school together but usually because they’re both part of a larger group hanging out together. They don’t really have beef with each other and if they’re having a problem, they know the other will help them. When he dies, it’s sad and shocking. Cassie isn’t present at the scene like Kayama, Yamada, and Aizawa because Endeavor’s agency was handling a different threat at the time. She finds out after her internship shift is over and cries. When Tartarus discovers that Shirakumo is a part of Kurogiri, Cassie is called in to use her quirk to analyze how Shirakumo is a part of Kurogiri and if reaching Shirakumo is even possible. It’s difficult and a little traumatizing to see what her quirk can show her. She’s leaving Tartarus as Aizawa and Yamada are arriving. She can’t tell them anything but she grabs Aizawa’s hand and tells him “Good luck,” because she knows it’s going to hurt him the most. When Aizawa ends up in the hospital, Cassie promises him to keep an eye on the students since no one is sure if the hospital might get attacked by villains immediately after the raids.
Aizawa and Cassie are good friends and have a kind of cousins bordering on siblings kind of vibe to them. They don’t hang out on purpose together unless part of a larger group, but they’re closer than Cassie was to Shirakumo probably by virtue of knowing each other for a much longer time at this point. They can provide a united front and are a dangerous team up combination. Whenever they’ve had to fight each other for school purposes, it’s a bonsaied disaster because they can’t use their quirks, Cassie hates hitting people and getting hit, and Aizawa can’t use his capture weapon during a sports festival tournament. Their one fight with each other has been used by various UA teachers as a demonstration in various dodging techniques. Cassie usually loses the fights because she hates fighting and physics tend to be on Aizawa’s side especially since Cassie’s balance isn’t always the best due to the same reasons she has epilepsy. One of the major reasons they get along is that their weird habits don’t phase each other at all.
Kayama and Cassie are very close and they will hang out together without the larger gaggle of friends around. Neither of them are each other’s bff, but they can both trust each other with secrets and clown each other without hard feelings. Kayama’s death hits Cassie exceptionally hard especially since it feels like there was no time to grieve because Cassie had to help pick up the slack due to retiring and dead heroes amid a villain surge. They also argued about the students’ involvement with the raids because Cassie was one of the heroes at the planning meetings who didn’t think students had a place in the raids even with provisional licenses. Kayama pointed out that they were going to need all the help they could get and where else would they find it.
Tensei and Cassie aren’t as close as the others but they’re still good friends and look forward to hanging out when the whole friends group gets together during UA and post-UA. Tensei knows he can count on Cassie to help with hero and normal things like when he moved out of the house and then had to move back in after his accident. She also knows she can count on him to do the same if needed.
Yamada and Cassie have been friends since they were sixteen, roommates since they were twenty, and have been dating since about two weeks before Cassie’s twenty-seventh birthday. At UA, Yamada started out like Shirakumo and Aizawa in that he was easy to talk to, fun to be around, but Cassie and Yamada usually only hung out if in the larger group. Then at New Years they had a chance to hang out together after everyone else went home and they started texting more and hanging out casually around town. They weren’t really going on dates per se since they’d both pay for themselves and wouldn’t like hold hands and such, but they have similar tastes in music and movies so if they wanted to go see some weird movie no one else wanted to see, they could count on each other to go and have fun with it. On time in third year at the cultural festival, Cassie touched Yamada’s hand and immediately kind of saw their future wedding together. It startled her to the point she immediately let go but the image was so intense and inviting that she kind of transferred it to him via her quirk without realizing she could do that with anyone. Yamada didn’t tell her he saw the vision for years however, because at that point he knew her well enough to know a few things: a) Cassie would be worried that she’s manipulating the future rather than just simply foreseeing it, b) he’s heard her mention casually that she doesn’t like it when people move too fast, and c) he’s still processing this thing that’s his potential future with a girl that he likes but hasn’t really considered asking out and he’s got to think about it, and d) they’re just starting out their careers only a few months later and so there isn’t really any time for dating anyway.
Anyway, both of them have found the other to be cute and funny for over a year at this point, and they’re both kind of open to the idea but just not ready to think about forever partner commitment time. Once they graduate from UA and start seeing each other at the once a week when they can swing it get togethers with their friends, they both find that they miss seeing each other every day and they start texting each other more and continually keep in touch especially after Aizawa kind of drops off the face of the earth for a while post-graduation. When the Ten Ward Incident happens, Cassie no longer has a place to live so Yamada offers her the guest futon at his place, and what’s supposed to be a temporary arrangement becomes permanent because they find that they both enjoy living together more than living by themselves. It’s nice to come home and have someone there even if they’re asleep. It’s nice to split chores. It’s nice to have someone to watch TV with and laugh at the jokes. It’s nice to just coexist without having to say anything, etc…
On New Years three years before Midoriya’s class enter UA, Yamada and Cassie go to hatsumōde together as they’ve done every year for a decade at this point. It’s cold but no snow. They join the line and no one really recognizes them because Yamada’s hair is down, he’s not wearing leather, and Cassie isn’t wearing her helmet or a speedsuit. They say their prayers and wander the streets. The clouds come and go sometimes obscuring the stars. When they’re kind of away from others, Yamada asks Cassie out, and is like “I should have done this years ago,” and Casise was like “lol and when would we have had the time?” but they do have some time now and so they manage to make regular dates a thing. Cassie always dresses up a bit for them and will sometimes wear lipstick.
When the dorm system is implemented, Yamada has to go live at UA and so they don’t really get to see each other much in person. Their dates become meals over video chat. They end up at the same planning meeting for the raids and after the meeting is over, they steal a moment where Cassie hugs him as tight as she can and only reluctantly lets go when they both know they both have to go back to work. When UA becomes a safe haven, Cassie moves to UA but she’s still gone most of the time trying to help where she can when she can since her job is now never done with all the destruction across the city. They get to stay in the same room and things feel both more at home but also more obvious how dire the situation is at the same time. They’re both still definitely on track to get married someday in the future, just not any time soon.
Cassie and Fuyumi formed a friendship because Cassie used to practice her quirk by keeping track of the Todoroki siblings. At some point Cassie gave Fuyumi her phone number in case Fuyumi ever needed to talk, vent, etc…and as they’ve gotten older, they’ve developed a genuine friendship. When Fuyumi doesn’t have class and Cassie doesn’t have work, they like to meet up somewhere, have a meal, and talk. When the Touya reveal happens, they talk about that, and Cassie helps Fuyumi get through it.
Cassie isn’t as close with Touya, Natsuo, and Shouto, but she’s closer with Natsuo and Touya than Shouto. She has Dabi figured out immediately since everyone’s personal vibe is unique, but she doesn’t say anything because she wants to make sure she’s not wrong before opening that can of worms. Touya reveals himself before Cassie can confirm anything. Natsuo and Cassie don’t really talk regularly but when they do see each other by happenstance, they both greet each other warmly. Shouto doesn’t really remember Cassie since she left her duties when he was about two years old, but Cassie has a soft spot for him and is always happy to run into him when she does.
Bakugou and Cassie met when Cassie was eighteen or nineteen and Bakugou was three or four. For the last few years, she’d been dreaming about this little kid hiding by a lamppost at night when a typhoon was approaching. She told her recue recovery boss about this and Ram Hero told her that if it ever happened, let them know because Ram Horns would rather Cassie save the kid than the kid dies in the storm.
One evening while coming home from work with a typhoon, Cassie spotted Bakugou by the lamppost. He’d run off because of an every changing reason but frequently it’s related to the fact his quirk only just manifested. Cassie shows him her hero license and tells him that the storm is coming too fast to take him home (it’s already raining and the wind’s getting out of hand), so Bakugou has to go home with her. They call up his parents to let them know he’s safe and when the power goes out, they use flashlights and play card games until he falls asleep. When the storm is less dangerous the next day, she takes him home to his parents. From then on, they keep kind of running into each other. Their relationship is kind of sibling-like. She’s not afraid to >/ at him if he’s being an asshole and tell him to stop it. She was also on scene post-sludge monster and sat with him since there was no one to really rescue and recover at that point. She’s told the others about him without using his name, but Aizawa, Yamada, and Kayama figure out who he is within the first day at school. She helped preform first aid on him post-raid fight. If she was the head of an agency she’d extend an offer to intern with her. Bakugou treats her like he might anyone in the Bakusquad.
Thirteen was a first year when Cassie was third year at UA. They met when Thirteen interned at Ram Hero’s agency, but didn’t become friends properly until Ram Horns asked Cassie to mentor Thirteen when Thirteen was a third year intern. When Ram Horns retired ten years later, Thirteen took over the agency and treats Cassie like her right hand man. The two of them partner up together for the USJ exercise. In the weeks leading up to it, Cassie has a bad feeling about it, but can’t figure out why. She tries some techniques to get her quirk to show her the future, but she can’t see it (probably because the plan was constantly changing or waiting for exact details on the villains’ side of things). Cassie wakes up that morning and is full of dread. She gets to USJ to help Thirteen prep it for the students and is like “Something bad is going to happen all over this place,” and Thirteen is like “Like what?” and Cassie’s like “I don’t know. I’m worried it’s food poisoning.” Because it’s like spots on the floor seem extra dreadful. It’s not until a few seconds before the villains warp into USJ that Cassie has a mental image of the villains doing just that, but she didn’t receive it in time to do anything about it. That’s really the downside to her quirk. Sometimes she can know things for years like the dream about standing on a hill overlooking a city with a bunch of heroes and then other times she doesn’t have a clear understanding of the problem until it’s almost too late to do anything with the vision except clue Aizawa in and give Iida a chance to escape before things can truly kick off.
Post-raids, Thirteen and Cassie tend to scout the city in need of help together. Mostly because they have to throw out the standard rescue recovery hero shift rules and Thirteen doesn’t want Cassie to be off by herself somewhere and have a seizure by pushing herself too hard. The two of them are very close. Since they see each other so much as work even pre-raid, they don’t hang out outside of work, but they can always count on each other always.

So, in the spirit of how I created this character I figured I should write more of my self insert nonsense before bed since I use self-insert characters to make up dumb stories, give fake interviews, etc... so I’ll go to sleep.
I figured might as well organize my thoughts on the self-insert and see if I want to do something more concrete with her. Also it’s a good way to share them with my friend who likes them, so...
Tonight’s theme is how Cassie ended up at UA and some additional yammering
So some details vary depending on how I’m feeling when I’m focusing on this part of the story, but here’s the general gist of it. I came up with this before the Touya backstory chapters so that’s why this info doesn’t quite jive with that particular timeline. But this is the Cassie AU so extra AU time.
Years ago, Cassie started having a recurring dream. In it, the ground was covered in piles of snow and she was running towards a fancy part of Musutafu. She ends up at a large estate and puts a code into the security pad, which opens for her. When she enters, she digs two boys out of collapsed snow fort. The dream isn’t super recurring but it recurs with a different keypad number periodically, possibly every time the security code is changed.
Anyway, sometimes between New Years and Cassie’s sixteenth birthday, this villain with a weather quirk starts to make snow. All the snow. Blizzard after blizzard after blizzard. But they can only make the snow when they’re awake so at random there’s always a 3 - 10 hour window where there is no snow happening and the weather goes back to what it should be. This is wrecking havoc on everything and no one can figure out who’s causing it or why.
Cassie wakes up on her birthday and looks out at all the snow and realizes today is THE DAY. She has to hurry. She gets ready, throws some clothes on, tells her mom she’s got to do something important, and partially runs and partially walks all the way to the Todoroki estate, puts the keycode in correctly, enters the grounds and starts digging Natsuo and Touya out of a collapsed snow fort that was suffocating them from its weight. Neither of them show any signs of frostnip or frostbite, but neither of them had the strength to save themselves after the collapse.
The boys seem to be alive and are awake and breathing. Cassie lets out a sigh of relief and then realizes there’s something ridiculously hot nearby and it’s Endeavor. He doesn’t know what’s going on only that this kid has broken into their estate and is messing with his kids so he hauls her off to the police station. Meanwhile the snow starts up yet again.
The police question Cassie and she keeps repeating her story. Yes, she has no quirk on record though she’s not technically quirkless. The doctors think since she has brain damage that’s affecting her quirk’s ability to manifest, since language, building, art, and mechanical quirks tend to run in her family and she shows no signs of such quirks even though she’s good at languages. She tells them about the dream, goes through it step by step, tells them past security codes from other versions of the dream, etc...The police are trying to figure out a motive other than follow a dream to save some kids, and aren’t finding any. They’re getting frustrated when Endeavor decides to enter the interrogation room. Cassie’s kind of intimidated because he’s huge, so hot it’s like a sauna, and there’s something kind of off about him that she can’t quite place. She also told her dad once when she was like three and saw Endeavor on TV that she’d work with him someday, which seems very presumptuous.
Endeavor starts asking questions about the dream, about other similar incidents, and if anyone else in her family is intuitive (which most of them are to varying degrees, Cassie’s just the strongest). He leans back in his seat, arms folded and tells her she does have a quirk, and he thinks if she trains it, she could become one of the stronger foresight heroes.
Cassie admits she’s always wanted to be a rescue recovery hero. She thinks she can do it quirk or no quirk because all she has to be is physically strong enough to help move rubble and such. Since she was born in the USA she’s used to there being a lot of collateral damage and she wants to be someone who cleans up the messes other heroes never think about and helps people survive villain encounters after the fact. Endeavor is always looking for strong minions so he offers Cassie an internship. In exchange, she must train both her quirk and muscle for the next three months and then join the rescue recovery division of his agency at the start of her second year of high school after transferring to UA which has the best rescue recovery program. It’s a stunning offer and Endeavor does have to talk it over with Cassie’s parents to get them on board with letting their daughter do such a dangerous thing since they are American and think about these things in the way American parents would.
So, Cassie’s training schedule is basically on even numbered days, she trains her body at the gym facilities at the agency. The sidekick helping her train talks to her about her goals for her hero tools and Cassie talks about wanting to be able to use a sledge hammer effectively as not only a tool to help others but a way to possibly deter villains trying to mess with her. That helps the direction of training greatly. On odd numbered days, Cassie reports to the Todoroki estate where she watches over the children since anticipating children’s needs, knowing when to get them out of trouble, playing games like hide and seek, etc... will give her a lot of ways of using her quirk and exploring all its dimensions. Fuyumi and Cassie bond pretty quickly. She gets along pretty well with Touya too since he’s about as old as her own brother. Natsuo is easy to get along with. Shouto is only a year old but she’s very good at reading him when he’s being non-verbal. Things go pretty well though there’s still this sense that something’s off and Cassie still can’t put her finger on it.
Endeavor recommends her to UA, she gets put in the gen ed division with a focus on rescue recovery work and physical training. It’s such a world of difference from growing up being taunted by teachers and students for being essentially quirkless in elementary and middle school, though she’s weird so she’s not exactly making a lot of friends but she’ll take not making lots of friends over making lots of nemesis.
Golden Week arrives along with the UA Sports Festival. Cassie knows she has to do well to prove she deserves all the luck that got her to this point. She narrowly manages to pass the first task and kind of falls face-first into the stadium. Shirakumo helps her to her feet and offers her a spot on his team for the second task. They go up against some of his friends on other small teams. They do well and Cassie makes it to the tournament round, but then she notices a trash can that she can’t ignore. She investigates and finds a bomb and tells her homeroom teacher.
Her homeroom teacher goes and gets this pro hero who has ram horns and a kind smile. She’s a rescue recovery hero who has a good nose for sniffing out things like explosive devices. Cassie gives up participating in the tournemnt to help Ram Hero find all the bombs planted in trashcans throughout the stadium. Ram Hero is really impressed with Cassie’s quirk and says that if Cassie ever wants to change agencies, come talk to her immediately. Cassie agrees, finding Ram Hero to have an auara that draws Cassie to her and makes her feel comfortable. One of the kids from class 1-A wins the tournament soon after all the bombs are found. The bombs are never reported to the public or the students.
The next school day at lunch, Cassie’s eating off by herself as she usually does. Shirakumo comes over with his friends and introduces her properly to Aizawa, Yamada, and Kayama. They’re curious what happened to Cassie befor the tournament. Cassie doesn’t enjoy lying so she says that she had to do something she was sworn to secrecy about.
She ends up eating lunch with Kayama and her friends (one of them being Tensei) a lot after this but also sometimes eats with the boys too. They’re all kind of weird so they form that close-knit mixed group of weirdoes every class kind of has. The longer the school year goes on, the more they all do together on and off campus. Cassie loves them so much. While everything is going really well at school, training at the Todoroki estate, which is now bi-weekly, has taken a kind of turn.
Cassie’s begun to piece together that something isn’t right. An incident occurs and suddenly Shouto can’t interact with his siblings anymore. Natsuo seems neglected and all three older siblings seem stressed. Cassie goes to Nezu about it since he seems like the only teacher who won’t write her off. He advises that she document every incident and make a file, that way if something is wrong, she can have a mountain of evidence about it if something must be done. He also warns her that if she does decide to act, it might be met with hostility by authorities. If she runs into any genuine trouble, he advises she call him and he’ll help her get out of it.
Soon after, Shirakumo dies and the school year ends. Summer vacation is training and internships. Cassie runs into a classroom friend named Jin, whose behavior is more exaggerated now, though he still seems kind. He’s been to prison and his life seems to be falling apart. They walk through a park together and catch up a little and then he heads off and Cassie kind of knows in a way that she’s not going to see him alive again, which stings a little because he was always nice to her in class.
Third year begins and things feel more serious and pressing without Shirakumo there. Kayama starts up a regular kareoke meet up for their friends group encouraging them to unwind weekly. Cassie meets Thirteen who’s a first year and the two of them hit it off to a degree, though they’ll become true friends later. Cassie makes it to the tournament round of the Sports Festival and draws the first fight, which is against Aizawa. They make history for being the first fight in UA history where neither of them used their quirks once. Mostly because Cassie’s quirk is pretty useless in a fight and if Aizawa erases her quirk, then that’s just wasted energy. They’re both decent fighters but Aizawa is taller, faster, and more aggressive about it. Cassie isn’t a super fan of physical fighting anyway (which is why she carries a sledgehammer) so after a lengthy bout, Aizawa wins. Aizawa goes on to win the entire tournament and become part of the Big Three.
The school year continues and Cassie’s binder of evidence is growing. She still doesn’t know if it’s enough to take to the authorities yet.
At the cultural festival, her class does an occult stand featuring fortune telling, tarot, etc.. utilizing weird interests and talents of the gen ed class. Cassie gets talked into becoming part of it and spends the festival touching people’s hands and telling them what came to her mind. Her friends come for kicks. Aizawa passes but is there because he’s on break from the hero class’ café. Cassie tells Tensei to be wary of a hero with no nose. She tells Kayama that she saw her future pro hero outfit and it’s a statement. She tells Vlad King that he’s going to marry the love of his life (he’s pumped actually as he is with most things). She takes Yamada’s hand and immediately lets go because she heard wedding music and she was struck by a tie between completely flustered and not wanting to know who is getting married for reasons Cassie doesn’t completely want to admit to herself yet. And Yamada’s like “wtf wtf wtf is it bad?” and Cassie’s like “I don’t think so?” and she never really does get around to telling him what she saw because the cultural festival ends and everyone has to go clean up. Kayama does eventually get Cassie to tell her, teases her about it a bit, but doesn’t tell anyone.
As the year draws to a close, the gang goes to hatsumōde together as their weekly get together. It’s intimidating to think that it’s their final New Years as high school students. Yamada and Cassie end up hanging out for about an hour more after the rest of the group split up because they both have that weird ADHD sleep pattern. Yamada walks her home but nothing romantic really happens because they’re idiots, but they had a good time and end up making a habit of going to hatsumōde together for the rest of their lives.
A few weeks later after Touya’s birthday, Touya dies and Cassie realizes she really can’t sit on her evidence any longer. She goes to the police and they look through it. The officers are concerned and do note that it seems serious, but then they remind Cassie that Endeavor is the number two hero and they just can’t knock him out of the game. Think of Musutafu, think of Japan. They need Endeavor to keep doing what he’s doing and he can’t afford a scandal. They take the evidence to destroy it (or perhaps lose it in storage somewhere, Cassie isn’t sure which happens) and tell her if she pursues this again, they’ll make it so she can never be a hero let alone work in Musutafu again.
It’s upsetting and frustrating. It feels like a punishment even though Cassie’s managing not to lose her future yet. She’s too angry and full of cycling emotions to just go home so she ends up on a bench stewing over it and trying to psych out what she should do. She even cries a little because it’s such a mess and she feels like she’s let all of the children down because whether she tries again or not, she might not be able to help them either way.
Aizawa, who’s already begun kind of keeping strange hours spots her and alerts Kayama who in turn sends Yamada to Cassie’s location. Cassie’s too upset to speak. The trains aren’t running anymore. Kayama arrives and says she already talked to Cassie's mom and told her that Cassie would stay over at her house. Kayama invites Aizawa and Yamada too if they want to come.
Late at night, Cassie ends up on Kayama’s balcony. She can’t sleep. She can’t figure out what she should do. Yamada ends up out there with her, again because their sleep schedules are atrocious. Cassie tells him everything, some of which she’s told him in pieces before. Yamada’s also angry about it but also isn’t quite sure what to do either. All Cassie knows is she can’t work for Endeavor anymore. The two of them return to the room everyone’s sleeping in and fall asleep holding hands.
In the morning, Cassie resigns from her internship with Endeavor’s agency. On Monday, she transfers to Ram Hero’s agency and continues preparing for the upcoming hero licensing exam. She feels like a cheat for choosing to be a hero but she knows she can help more people this way. When she graduates, she holds her head high because she worked hard for it and she’s looking forward to becoming a proper rescue recovery hero.

Hey, I’m super tired but here’s a (possibly) non-canon story about @self-insert-nonsense‘s MHA OC’s mother, Sonaka. I really hope you enjoy.
---
She had double- no, triple checked everything. Every important item was wrapped and placed carefully into one of the two suitcases the sat on her bed. Sonaka knew if she carried any more people would get suspicious.
As if a gray-skinned woman and her equally pale child wouldn't arise suspicion.
"Mama?"
Sonaka perked up at that sound. She turned her head and saw her little girl innocently glancing up at her. Although she was visibly struggling to carry her suitcase, Sonaka's pride and joy wasn't going to let a minor inconvenience get in the way of impressing her mother. Sonaka bent down to her daughter's level.
"Nusuma, are you sure everything is packed?"
"Yes, Mama!"
Sonaka frowned. "Are you sure? We can't come back once we leave."
Sonaka watched as Nusuma's face scrunched up into as close to serious as a six-year-old could get. "I'm sure!"
Sonaka chuckled and ruffled her hair. "Alright, let's get moving, shall we? The train will-"
A knock at the door set Sonaka into a panic. No one knocked on her door unless it was... Them.
Sonaka frantically shoved her suitcases under her bed before thrusting Nusuma out, slamming the door shut behind her. Nusuma watched with a curious gaze as her mother paced her newly barren apartment.
"Mama?" She called, growing weary at the sight of her mother's panic.
"M-Mama's fine, honey. Mama just-"
The knocking grew louder. Nusuma whimpered and buried her face into her mother's brown skirt. The suitcase fell from her grasp with a resounding thud. Without a second to spare, Sonaka tossed it onto her bed's stripped bed and closed that door as well. Sonaka pulled her daughter in close.
"Honey, you can't tell anyone we're leaving. Understand?" she whispered.
"But... You said lying is wrong."
"I know, but this is to keep you safe, okay? You know Mama just wants to keep you safe, right?" Sonaka prayed her daughter wouldn't ask any more questions.
"Okay..." Nusuma murmured back.
With a deep breath, Sonaka made the treacherous journey to her front door. She took an even deep breath once she made it. Shakily, she swung it open and was met with four pairs of glowing red eyes.
A tall figure with luscious purple hair that fell to her waist stood at Sonaka's doorstep. Her eyes were constantly shifting, yet all eight of them held an aura of concern. Her hands (if you could even call them that) were two thick pieces of carapace with their "fingers" just being individual pieces of the shell.
"Joro." Sonaka let out a sigh of relief.
"Auntie Tsuchigumo!" Nusuma cried with joy.
The young woman scooped up the child and tickled her stomach. While Nusuma laughed and giggled at the touch, Joro cooed. "How's my favorite ghost? Huh? How is she?"
"Great! Me and Mama are gonna stay home all day!"
Sonaka winced. She loved her daughter, honestly.
But she's a horrible liar.
Joro easily saw through Nusuma's lies. Her red eyes showed everything Sonaka to know.
"Honey, can you go to your room and play with your toys?" Sonaka said, taking her daughter from the spider woman's grasp.
Nusuma looked up confused. "But-"
"Now, Nusuma."
Sonaka placed her on the floor. Nusuma didn't even look back as she scurried to her room and closed the door behind her. Sonaka turned her attention back to Joro who was taking in the apartment. She crossed her arms and glanced at Sonaka. Not with anger, but with clear pain.
"You're leaving, aren't you?"
Sonaka couldn't even try to deny her friend. The lifeless apartment was all the proof she needed. The to-bursting bookshelves had been stripped of their occupants. The vases that held the most beautiful array of flowers had been sold and the flowers buried under a mountain of trash. All the pictures that had ordained the walls had been removed from their frames, which also had been tossed, and placed in the suitcases. The same suitcases that were at the forefront of Sonaka's mind.
Sonaka couldn't hold it anymore. Without asking, she rushed over to her friend and buried her face into her purple sweater. Tears flowed freely at the same time as her sobs. Sonaka tried to speak, but her throat was closed. Each sob was wracked with grief. Joro, instead of pushing her away, pulled her in closer.
"It's okay, I already knew."
Her friend didn't seem phased by her words so Joro just chose to gently stroke her head. Sonaka was too busy thinking about all the wrongs that she had caused throughout her life. The same wrongs that could easily affect Nusuma.
"I can't let her get hurt, Joro. I can't. This life of villainy and evil isn't for her." Sonaka sputtered.
"We're not-"
"Don't try to say we're not because we are!" Sonaka shouted.
Joro blinked. She didn't even flinch at her friend's anger. Instead, all she did was stand Sonaka up straight. Joro forced her to look into her eyes.
"We're villains, yes. We weren't evil, however, not until he took over."
Joro was talking about Bladespinner, the current king of their villain syndicate and a powerful mutant Quirk bearer. After the previous leader stepped down, Bladespinner naturally took the position unopposed, with people either unwilling or too frightened to fight him. His saw arms were infamous for slicing through objects and people alike. He was one of the many reasons Sonaka couldn't live the life anymore.
"He'll kill her, Joro," Sonaka said, fear seeping into her voice. "Maybe not personally, but he'd send her into Hell if it meant fulfilling his twisted goals."
"I know. And that's why I'm here to help."
Sonaka was shocked. Yes, Joro and her were friends for years now, long before Nusuma came into her life. But Joro was completely submerged in the life of villains. Joro noticed her surprised and raised one carapace finger.
"I'm not going to be joining you. I will help you out of the country, however."
Sonaka blinked. "Wha- I was just going to go North!"
Joro let out a sad chuckle. "You really think it'll be that easy? Bladespinner will be furious when he discovers one of his one deserted. No, you need to go away. Far away."
Sonaka's brain was still spinning with the realization of it all. This was happening. This was really happening. "But... Where will I go."
Joro thought about it for a moment. "Korea. There's a former villain there that specializes in forgery. She'll help you get all the necessary paperwork. Tell her that Tsuchigumo-hubae sent you and she won't ask any questions."
"Korea?" Sonaka repeated. "But I don't speak-"
"Do you want a better life for Nusuma or not?!"
Sonaka flinched at Joro's tone. She knew the villainess was right, but it still hurt to know she was leaving everything behind. Joro gripped both of Sonaka's shoulders and squeezed tightly.
"Do this not just for her, but for you. You deserve a real job, real life, a real man who isn't-"
"Don't you dare mention his name! I don't care wherever he ran off to or whatever he does, whether it be picking turnips in Russian or being a stripper in the States, he's more than dead to me."
Joro raised her hands. "Fine, I won't say it. But you should tell Nusuma when both of you are ready."
The mother sighed but nodded anyway. There would be a time Nusuma would learn about her father, but today was not that day. Suddenly, Sonaka realized something.
"You wouldn't come here just to help me. I know you better than that."
Joro's tough demeanor fell she awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck. "Bladespinner requires us to come to fight with him."
Sonaka snorted. "Can't he do it himself?"
Joro shook her head. "It's not that simple. A bunch of his lesser lackeys wanted to prove themselves to him so they started attacking the city."
"This includes us why?"
"Bladespinner was just going to let them captured but realized only one hero and his interns showed up to the fight. He thinks we can make a name for ourselves if we cause some real damage."
Sonaka frowned. "I just told you I wanted to leave the life. You told me you'd help me accomplish that goal. Now you want me to throw it all away just because some hotheaded dumbass wants to stroke his ego?"
"It won't only help him support his superiority complex," Joro explained. "It'll also keep him distracted on his victory, giving us enough time to help you two escape."
Sonaka knew Joro was right. Bladespinner was not only a ruthless demon-like man but an egomaniac who lived to support his delusions of grandeur. If this battle was a success, he'd be too busy basking in the light of "his" glory to notice one of his minions had gone missing.
But what about Nusuma?
Nusuma, her pride, and joy, the reason Sonaka got up every morning, the catalyst for this entire escape attempt, still had no idea of her mother's day job. Sonaka did everything in her power to make sure Nusuma wouldn't become a target for Heroes or other villains. Joro was the only exception since she still had some honor still left in her (plus she was a great babysitter). Nusuma, despite her young age, was already growing suspicious of her mother's activities.
"Why are you always hurt?" Nusuma asked one day after Sonaka returned home from an intense battle with some Heroes. The previous head of her syndicate believed that attacking a known meeting spot for heroes would weaken both them and society's moral. It failed miserably with many villains in critical condition or spent to Tartarus.
"Mommy got into a little trouble at work, sweetie. That's all." It was a weak explanation, but Sonaka hoped it'd placate her.
It didn't as Nusuma scrunched up her nose. "You're lying! You and Mrs. Nakamura always say lying is wrong."
Sonaka let out a silent curse to herself and her daughter's kindergarten teacher.
"Well, I'm not lying," Sonaka struggled to think of what to say next. "Only telling... A half-truth."
"Half-truth?" Nusuma questioned.
"It means I'm not lying, just not telling the full story. To protect you." Sonaka explained.
"But you're always protecting me! Why can't I protect you?" Nusuma whined.
Sonaka chuckled. "Because you're five."
"But I already have my Quirk!"
Sonaka winced at that. Nusuma's Quirk had shown itself early and was similar to her father's. Too similar. It was why Sonaka had to pull her daughter out of kindergarten after the aquarium incident. Possessing a child like that would only lead to skepticism amongst her peers and adults.
"You will protect me. Just let me do it first. That's my job."
"So that's your real job!" Nusuma gasped with joy, tackling her mother.
Sonaka sucked in a yelp of pain as Nusuma leaped onto her bruised legs. She put on a fake smile and rustled her hair. "Oh no! You found me out!"
"Sonaka?"
Sonaka snapped back into reality. Joro was nearly pressing her face into Sonaka's. She jolted backward in surprise. Joro genuinely looked hurt as Sonaka tried to regain her bearings.
"Sorry, I just-" she took a deep breath. "My costume is in the wastebasket. Over there in the corner."
Joro went to place a hand on Sonaka's shoulder. "Are you oka-"
"I'm fine." Sonaka backed away. "Let's just go before Bladespinner throws a fit."
The villain looked over her shoulder and called out. "Nusuma, dear, can you come here."
It took a few moments, but the little girl shyly opened the door. She was clutching a toy figure of a Hero. Once she saw her mother's shining face, she ran over and gave her a tight hug. Sonaka ran her fingers through her hair.
"Mama's got to go out one last time, okay?"
Nusuma looked worried. "But... What about-"
"Everything will be okay. Mama just has to go do this one thing and we're gonna go to a magical land called 'Korea'."
"Koreena?" Nusuma attempted to sound out.
Joro snickered at mispronunciation, causing Sonaka to glare at her. "Korea. We'll have a new life."
"But I like it here!" Nusuma pouted.
Sonaka sighed. "You'll understand when you're older."
"Sonaka," Joro warned, glancing down at the phone she produced from her skirt pocket.
The mother bit her bottom lip. Nusuma was still looking bitter about the whole arrangement. She couldn't ask Joro to stay, knowing Bladespinner's temperament but she couldn't just leave her.
"Tell you what," Sonaka said with an attempt at a smile. "What if I get you something while I got out. Would you like that?"
Nusuma rocked back and forth on her heels, pondering the question. A smile broke out on her face. "A rose!"
Both Joro and Sonaka looked at her confused. "A rose?" Sonaka muttered.
"Yeah! I watched a movie where there was a magical rose and a princess and a beast but the beast was a good guy and the rose helped them fall in love!" Nusuma looked up with a Cheshire grin. "I wanna have you fall in love!"
Her heart tore at that statement. Joro could clearly tell that this the time to step in. "Your mama and I have to go now. Please be a good girl and stay in the house. Do not open the door for anyone. Do you understand?"
"And Nusuma," Sonaka dropped to her level. "I'll be home after this, I promise. Do you understand?"
Nusuma dipped her head. "Yes, Mama. Yes, Auntie Tsuchigumo."
Sonaka planted a kiss on her daughter's head before exiting the apartment. Noticing Joro's black car in the parking lot, she turned to her friend and saw her costume in her arms.
"I got it when you were dealing with Nusuma," Joro explained, seeing her friend's perplexed face.
She thanked Joro and, once she got into the back seat, began changing. Joro smirked. "Shouldn't I be paying for this?"
"Shut up!" Sonaka shouted, but the playfulness in her tone wasn't lost on Joro. "At least my costume is decent! With yours, nothing is lost to the imagination."
Joro shrugged, turning the car on. The engine purred as she spoke. "Hey, my gift to the world is showing off my greatest assets." She motioned towards her breasts and rear.
Sonaka rolled her eyes.
Just before they were to drive towards their destination, Sonaka gripped her comrade's shoulder. "Make sure I get home. For Nusuma's sake."
Joro nodded in agreement. "For Nusuma."
---
For someone who spent almost two decades battling Heroes, Sonaka knew when a battle was starting to get rough and this battle was it.
The Hero that swooped in to save the day, some hotshot named Fantastic Devil (a red-skinned twenty-something with horns, a tail, and fire-breathing. Your standard edgy hero-style), and his four interns. Bladespinner's lackeys were barely keeping up with the Heroes before Joro (codenamed Spinneret) and Sonaka (codenamed Wraith) showed up.
Weaving into and out of the fray, the ghost-like villain pop out of the wispy form to slash at her enemies. She noticed a couple of Sidekicks showed up to attempt to defeat the villains, but she wasn't worried. They were novices compared to a master of concealed weaponry. Currently, she was dealing with an intern with some sort of speed Quirk. He dashed back and forth like a child on a sugar rush. He attempted to land some square hits on her, but Wraith used her Quirk, Phase, to simply turn into a puff of gray smoke.
Suddenly, the speedy intern landed a strong jab right in between her ribs then a swift kick to her right arm. Her blade was launched from her grasp. Cockiness must've taken hold of him because he tried to unleash another attack. But, as a concealed master, Wraith always had something up her sleeve. In this case, literally. Sliding out a blade from its hidden sheath, she let out a yell as she dug it straight into the man's orange helmet. It's pale yellow screen cracked due to the force. The intern was too stunned to block Wraith's second attack. She side-kicked the helmet, causing both the wearer and it to drop to the ground. She was about to turn away when she noticed something.
A round young face, mousy brown hair, as he laid gasping she could see braces. The most damning evidence was the giant UA logo on the back of his hero costume.
"You're... A student?"
Before he could reply, a shot of web stuck to the kid's back. He was whipped into the air and slammed into the ground several feet away from Wraith. The attacker was Joro, Spinneret, donning her infamous costume. A black mask shielded her identity, but not her vision. Even from far away, Wraith could see the intensity in her eyes. Her costume was a tight latex with a cobweb type shirt and boots. Two latex pieces were barely holding up her breasts. Wraith would've said she was beautiful, had she not slashed the throat of the student with her long carapaces.
Wraith wanted to scream but her throat had closed up. The sounds around her became muffled as the realization hit her. These were just regular interns. They were students. Children.
She backed away from Joro, no, Spinneret, as her former friend basked in the glory of her kill. As she backed up, she felt her heel step onto something. Something squishy. Wraith (could she still call herself that?) Turned and nearly throw up.
It was another student. Her costume was torn to bits but she could make out that it had something to do with constellations. A mask, probably hers, laid broken against the pavement. Sonaka leaned in to meet the girl's eyes. They were a teal. Sonaka could imagine how bright they were when this girl was told she entered the Hero Academy.
"Please..." the girl noticed Sonaka and weakly reached out for her. "Please... Help."
Sonaka choked by a sob. This was someone's daughter. No, this may potentially be her daughter.
"I'm sorry." Sonaka managed to say, grasping the girl's hand. "I'm so... So sorry."
The girl didn't say anything. She couldn't. Her eyes were dull, one of the key depictions of death. Sonaka let her hand fall back to the pavement without another word.
The world around her was crumbling, both physically and mentally. A burning piece of a car crashed landed next to her but she didn't even move. Not even All Might himself could get her to move from this position. The girl was young, sixteen or seventeen at the most. Black hair with specks of white. But despite her physical differences, all Sonaka could see was a teenaged Nusuma. Laying like that in the middle of some pointless battle.
"Who did this?" Sonaka murmured. She placed the girl on her side a gasped.
Her stomach was completely torn up. It was like a pack of wolves that had chewed through her organs. Blood was pooled all over the front of her costume and the pavement. Sonaka gagged when she noticed the chunks of meat. And all of it red. So much red.
Like a rose.
Sonaka reluctantly traced her fingers over the wound. It wasn't as messy of a cut as she once believed. It was crude, yes, but done with a clear purpose. Like it was made by a tool.
"Bladespinner!" shouted Sonaka to no one in particular. She needed to stop him. Fast.
Nusuma, I'm sorry. But I have to do this.
Sonaka's costume flowed elegantly behind her even as she threw herself into the chaos. Quirks were flying all over the place. That Fantastic Devil guy was hanging off the side of a building breathing fire onto the villains below. Mountains of debris loomed threatening around her. Sonaka could see in her peripheral another villain pounce at a sidekick. The sidekick bounced away and disappeared in a shimmery flash before appearing behind him. Normal Sonaka would've floated up to save her comrade. But that wasn't her comrade and, right now, she wasn't her normal self.
She shifted into her Wraith form to move past the burning rubble and blood spatters.
"I wanna have you fall in love!"
Sonaka dodged another flying piece of debris when she saw a familiar muscular form.
Bladespinner.
His silver was caked in blood and, most horrifying, skin. His villain outfit, a silver and black skintight costume with a saw symbol on the front and back was mostly torn, revealing his muscles and machine parts. His arms, if you could even call them that, were giant mechanical wonders. A mixture of organic and machine parts with two razor-sharp saws at the end of it. He was currently locked in battle with a pink-haired- correction, pink petaled girl. Her pink eyes were filled with terror, yet determination. Next to her was the body of another student, most likely one of her classmates.
Another intern!
Sonaka's body moved on her own. She couldn't watch another death. She was tired of it all. The fighting. The lack of trust. The hatred from society. The reality that you'd never know if you'd make it home or not.
For Nusuma
"Kaori!" Sonaka screamed over everything.
Bladespinner, before landing the final blow, angrily spun around to glare at Sonaka. The girl managed to scurry away as Bladespinner drew closer to a frozen Sonaka.
"What... Did you say?"
"Kaori... Goto... You need to stop." Sonaka waved her hands to motions towards the environment. "Look at this! Look at you! Look at what you almost did."
"I was about to defeat our enemy," Bladespinner bared his teeth. "Are you questioning my decision, Mimoto?"
Sonaka stiffened but stood her ground. "I'm questioning the fact you're about to murder a child!"
"A child!?" Bladespinner scoffed. "That's our future enemy! The ones that might kill us! It's better to strangle the weeds before they overrun the garden!"
"This isn't one of your stupid analogies, Kaori! These are innocent lives!"
"You have no right to call me that!" he snarled. "If you wanna protect them so much, you can die with them!"
Bladespinner had raised his arm to strike, but Sonaka already had disappeared in a poof of smoke. She reappeared just above him. She swiftly tapped her ankles together and two blades shot out from the back of her boot's heels. She raised her left leg. She struck down, but Bladespinner managed to just barely dodge. Still, she managed to graze his cheek. A trail of blood dripped down and onto the ground.
A rose?
Sonaka snapped back into reality when Bladespinner used the back of their arm to bat her away. She wheezed as all the arm was forced out of her. She went tumbling across the ground, hitting several mounds of rubble. She was sure his attack at least cracked a rib or two was cracked but she needed to move. Like a raging bull, Bladespinner began to charge. Just before he made it towards her, she managed to disappear and poof back into existence right in front of him. She just managed to dig a knife right across his chest and popped out of the way.
I'm going to get a serious migraine after all this Quirk usage she groaned, already developing a headache.
"Stay... STILL!"
Bladespinner tried to punch her but she already was gone. Before he could blink, his throat was already slit. He choked out blood with it splattered on a broken pile of bricks. Before he could even get another word out, another knife was planted in his back. Then another. Then three more.
All Sonaka could see was red. Both figuratively and literally. Bladespinner had hit the ground several seconds ago, let she just kept stabbing. All the pent up rage she had built over the years were being unleashed on the body of her murderous boss. Was she just as bad as him? Probably, but she just needed to be free.
Free.
Nusuma!
Struggling to stand due to her shaking legs, Sonaka started to shuffle her way back towards an alleyway. Maybe she just shed her costume and make it back to her apartment just before nightfall. The last train left at eleven in the evening, she cod make it. She had to.
The sounds of fighting and over the top Quirks were dulled by the memories of her child. Nusuma's birth was a painful, lonely, yet beautiful experience. Her first words 'up, Mama' might've been small to everyone else but the world to her. Her smile was so precious. Her laugh was music to her ears. Her first ever A was on a math test; basic, but God did she almost cry at seeing her child succeed.
Succeed. Nusuma would succeed.
Nusuma, Mama's coming. Don't worry.
"You!"
Bladespinner? No, it was a feminine voice. Joro? No, too young.
Sonaka turned around. She wasn't prepared for the thick piece of wood going straight through her chest. Sonaka let out a deep wheeze. It pierced her lung, she could feel it. Her attacker? That same pink-petaled intern/student from before. Except her eyes were now a green, a green that reminded Sonaka of the grass at the park she always took Nusuma to. Although rage was pouring out of those emerald eyes, Sonaka also detected loss and hurt. Sonaka couldn't blame her. She was a child pretending to be a great Hero. This was probably her first experience with death, at least death that involved her friends and Hero's life as a whole. She wanted to tell her that she was sorry, but the girl raised another arm. It was covered in wood like a thick armor plating. Her hand, although covered, managed to sprout another tree branch.
"I-"
Sonaka couldn't finish. Her heart was immediately struck and everything slowed. She always thought death was supposed to be painful but she just felt tired and, in a twisted way, peace. All the stress dissolved at the moment of impact. The girl's face was still morphed due to all the suffering she was struggling with. Sonaka wanted to give her peace to her. But she couldn't.
She was falling.
Darker and colder was the only place she was heading and she embraced it with open arms. Sonaka let out a tear; it was her final regret.
Nusuma, I'm sorry. I didn't keep my promise.

Character I would be best friends with: I’m not sure since I too was a loud child nobody really wanted much to do with back in the day
a random thought: I think the epilogue shouldn’t have been basically a back door pilot for Boruto and should have been Naruto’s Hokage ceremony instead.
An unpopular opinion: I’ve always loved Sakura and all of the girls (I don’t know if this is still an unpopular opinion)
My Canon OTP: I’m not sure I actually have any OTPs in this series. I do a lot of multishipping

a random thought: If they don’t dismantle the current societal structures and start creating real heroes by the end of the manga what’s the point?
An unpopular opinion: I would fight Endeavor
My Canon OTP: There aren’t really a lot of definitely canon pairings to choose from are there?
My Non-canon OTP: EraserMic

Most Epic Villain: I enjoy the League’s theatrics
